ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO - badass red-band trailer online!

Published at:  Aug 27, 2003 5:46:25 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with a trailer that's bootprint is about to stomp your ass! Turns out there's cool ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO stuff on the new DESPERADO Special Edition DVD...

Hey guys, just thought I'd give you a heads-up about Once Upon a Time In Mexico.  I picked up the new Desperado Special Edition DVD, and it contains a new red-band trailer for the film, as well as a short behind-the-scenes look which shows a lot of footage from scenes I'd not seen before (and kind of wish I still hadn't - it's gonna be awesome!)

Just thought I'd let ya know!

Brian

and then Movie-List put the trailer that Brian mentioned being on the dvd up online... so now... now you can behold the glory of Salma's thigh, the beauty that that fucking Sony 24p High Def camera caught... and just generally marvel at how good this film looks...

What was R-Rated about that trailer?

    by lobanhaki

It doesn't seem to be much different than any other version of that trailer.

After I read the part about Brian wishing he hadn't seen the trailer (do to spoilage) I bailed. I've been waiting for a long time to see this flick. I think can wait 2 more weeks.

The desperado they call el mariachi...

    by heleno

Just in case you didn't know what you were watching. Anyway, it's not quite as good a trailer as Desperado, which I thought was one of the finest trailers I've ever seen, but it still looks rather fab. Also, I didn't know Enrique was in it! That should get the teenaged girls into the cinema. Johnny Depp seems to be on something of a roll, what with Pirates and now this. Despite looking very Benny & Joon-ish in that T-shirt halfway through (does that man ever age? Where does he keep the portrait?) he would appear to be the coolest man on the planet.

I'm relieved Mr. Voice didn't say "...they call the El Mariachi"

    by trav mcgee

Had me worried when Depp said something like "Looks like El made it." His nickname's "The" now? Maybe I heard it wrong, or "L" is someone else. ...Man are "red band" trailers getting weak. If you know your trailer's gonna get a red band for some violence, why not bloody it up real good? I've already come to terms with the sad fact Salma's staying clothed. Cruel world. ...Now, what's this about a new Desperado SE DVD? Is El Mariachi going to get a new release at all? I've had my eye on that double Desp/El M set for a while now. But this makes things a little frustrating.

The returning actors who died in Desperado play different roles in OUATIM

    Quote from Desperado:
"It's strange how pulling a trigger is easier than playing the guitar. Easier to destroy, than to create."

Agreed Heleno, Desperado trailer was awesome...

    by boris the blade

That trailer had to be one of the best ones I've seen, which made me despise the film itself even more....I actually tried to find it online but couldn't anymore...anywhere you know to nab it?

Sorry, no idea where to get it, although it is on a video of trailers that came free with Empire once. Ah yes, the good old days when you got a video full of trailers free with a quality magazine. I know they've started doing the same on DVDs, but going back to the menu all the time just isn't the same as watching an hour of solid trailers. Incidentally, the trailer for Seven is on the same video, and I thought that was the best slice of misdirection I had ever seen in a trailer. It made Seven look like a typical buddy movie - a little dark maybe but nothing out of the ordinary. Apart from that, the only place you're likely to find the Desperado trailer is on the DVD.

    The Desperado/el Mariachi Dvdx

    by gecko1138

They just released new El Mariachi and Desperado dvds yesterday. The features and transfer and all are exactly the same as the double feature dvd that's been out for a couple of years. The only added thing is the inclusion of the Once Upon A Time In Mexico trailer and a short behind the scenes featurette. It was basically just a crappy rerelease to hype up OUATIM.

    red band?

    by thejake

I don't get it...what was so bad about that trailer to warrant a red band? No cussing, no nudity, no blood...wtf? Is it red banded because they show guns? We're slowly but surely getting to be like the extreme ultra-PC world of Demolition Man. That trailer is a violation...you have been fined one credit.

    by trav mcgee

Took a look over at amazon and looks like they aso did a SE repackage of the double-disc set, and are releasing it a bunch cheaper than the first round. So, crappy re-release or not looks like I'm being rewarded for my patience. Or cheapness. Excellent!

As far as I have seen it described El Mariachi should be a new transfer.

Also there should be some free trial of some video editing software included.

    Eglesias.

    by jacknifejohnny

I find his role in this film to be a mighty distraction, but if Banderas' band from the fist film bit the big one, here's hoping Eglesias will do the same(as early as possible).
Aside from the moley crooner, this film has a great cast and I've always thought of Banderas as a far more charismatic action hero than we've had in previous years(Diesel anyone?).
Depp and DaFoe's presence is also very welcome, I'm hoping for some fun and slightly overdone performances, that will liven up the action( If DaFoe pulls another "Wild At Heart", I'll totally be his bitch!!!). Anyhoo, September is looking good with the exception of the ridiculously overhyped "Underworld" and the possibly too good to be true hype of "Cabin Fever".

This movie looks more like something you want to watch then listen to the commentary. Doesn't get me excited about a theatrical release though.
