Father Geek here with longtime Asia-AICN reporter pigmon and the latest from Japan... buuuuuut first I have this for you by way of Vienna, Austria...
Hello, Stauffen here.
I made a list of Japan's upcoming cinema highlights. Maybe you're interested in it.
Let's start with something that will kick some ass for sure: SKYHIGH - THE MOVIE. Directed by the great Ryuhei Kitamura himself. The trailer looks really great. Check it out at This Cool Spot...
Japan-Release: 8/11
The next one is a movie called ROBOCON. The trailer reminds me a bit of PING PONG, which I love by the way.

Japan-Release: 9/13
This one looks like an erotic-psycho-thriller-something and is called G@ME.
Director is Isaka Satoshi (Focus, Mr. Rookie) Cast: Naohito Fujiki (GTO, DRAGONHEAD), Yukie Nakama (TRICK) and Ryo Ishibashi (SUICIDE CIRCLE, AUDITION). I heard it's a kidnapping-story.
Official page: Is Right Here...
Japan-Release: 11/8
The last one is by Mr. Sogo Ishii! DEAD END RUN. The movie is starring Tadanobu Asano and Masatoshi Nagase. Both were in ELECTRIC DRAGON 80.000V. The soundtrack will feature songs by Tadanobu Asano's band Mach 1.67.

Sorry for my poor English!
Greetings from Vienna/Austria... Stauffen
Father Geek back, now here's pigmon with his regular weekly report...
NEWS
* The Hiroshima newspaper reported yesterday that Scott Ross of Digital Domain.inc is
planning to shoot the film, "A Thousand Cranes" there. It is about a tragic love story between a Japanese
woman from Hiroshima and an American spy during the time period from early June to August in 1945. Of
course it will feature the near total distruction of Hiroshima city by atomic bomb on Aug. 8th of that year. Digital
Domain will serve up the very graphic VFX. Script is already completed which was written by Mr.Ross. He will
be the producer of this film also and starts looking for the director and main
actors this week. The budget will be in the $100 million range.
* Aya Ueto("Azumi")'s next picture will be "Install" which is about a 17 year
old girl who is an adult only chat room's hostess. She becomes a friend of
elementaly school students and earn lots of money from this business. Director
will be K Kataoka who is a very famous "made for TV" director.
* "Juon" rules Korea! Over 1 million people has seen this Japanese horror
movie.
This is the record of Japanese movie shown in Korea. "Juon 2" will open there later
on this month which is same as in Japan. "Juon" also becomes smash hit in Hong
Kong and Singapore.
* "Bayside Shake Down 2" becomes fastest to reach over 500 million people in
box office. "The Matrix:Reloaded" took 22 days to reach this number, but "Bayside
Shake Down2" took only 20 days to make new record. Over 200 manufactured goods
sell well, especially "The Bayside Ramen"(noodle soup) sold out every store
now. "Bayside Shake Down 2" will be showing most of Asian countries later this
year.
SHORT REVIEWS
* "Juon 2"(Xanadu&Tokyo Teatre) directed by Takashi Shimizu
Yes, beleive it or not, this sequel is much more scary than the 1st one. This time, the actress Kyoko(Noriko
Sakai) reports on "that spooky house" for a popular TV show, and she experiences very unusal life altering events
after visitng this house... Her fiance gets in a bad traffic accident, she looses her
baby, her friends commit sucides, and so on. I gurantee that you will bite your nails down to their quik during
every single spooky scene.

* "Dragon Head" (Toho)directed by Jyoji Iida
This is typical movie for the Good VFX No Drama genre movie.
Movie starts when a high
school boy starts waking up at the scene of a bullet train accident in a tunnel. He finds another 2
survivors and the 3 get out of tunnel.
They see that all the natural surroundings and the city are destroyed. What's happend to the
world? They start walking ahead toward Tokyo. When they finally arrive Tokyo, totally is
destoryed. They finally see the unexpected enemey....nature. Totally this movie has
been shot in Uzbekistan. Set and VFX are stunning. Some of the scenes are much better
than "Armagedon", but the story is so weak and acting is at so amature a level that it makes this
movie so dull, but pretty.

OH YEAH!!!!

Can someone tell me what this is about and if it's worth seeing? Btw, I love Asian film titles. Bayside Shake Down, Tiger on the Beat- they're just so much more fun to say than Lethal Weapon.
-
Pikachu IS The One!

I'd just like to go on record as saying that any noise coming out of a Pokemon is going to make more sense than half the dialogue in Reloaded, hence the box office. That having been said, where did Kitano get the nickname Beat? I haven't had a chance to see a lot of his work yet, so was it one of his characters? Is it just because he lays the "beat" down on guys in his movies? Does he like to listen to good beats in a jazz club? Just curious. Btw, once again on the genius of Asian film titles: VIOLENT COP. Never in my life had I wanted to see a movie so badly after only hearing the title. That first scene where he follows the thug kid home and beats him senseless in his own room? Priceless.

In the early 80's Takeshi Kitano and Kiyoshi Kaneko rose to fame as a comedy duo. Usually comedy teams are trained by an older comedian and adopt his family name as a sign of respect, but since Kitano and Kaneko had no such "sensei," they decided to call themselves "The Two Beats," Beat Takeshi (the buffoon) and Beat Kiyoshi (the straight man). The duo broke up sometime afterward, but Takeshi Kitano continues to use the name "Beat" Takeshi in some of his work.

Can't wait to see those two despite the lukewarm review for Dragonhead. The 10-volume manga that the Dragonhead movie is based is quite good so I'm looking forward to the film adaptation. The trailers from the official site look stunning! As for Ju-On 2, well, the trailer creeped me the fuck out and I love the first 3 films (the two direct-to-video ones & the first theatrical movie) so I'll be there. Too bad it will take at least 6 months before any of those comes out on DVD ...
-
For the Beat explanation, I appreciate it. I wish I wasn't stuck on a crap work computer, I want to go watch those trailers. And my girlfriend's having a girls' day/night out, so I can't even go see FvsJ tonight. Oh, woe is me...

this reminds me of in the Star Wars documentary, which contained a gratuitous, long scene of Lucas "dining". The only way this scene would be possible is if Lucas "demanded" to be "filmed" whilst "dining". Honestly, who wants to see that shit? This must be stopped.
-
Let me just say this to the lovely japanese people...
The Matrix Reloaded is nothing but a pile of monkey shit! -
I'll FIRST your pretty face!

I was just watching this movie again this morning for the fifth or sixth time. It's one of my favorites. Excellent blend of suspense and comedy. I'm surprised this film hasn't gotten more attention. Seems perfect for Western audiences.
I can't wait for the sequel.
