Speaking of “Scorched” …
On an NBC hourlong premiering Sept. 26, Alicia Silverstone plays a sunny, well-to-do hottie who likes playing matchmaker when she’s not helping out her lawyer daddy.
Has Silverstone finally agreed to reprise her signature role, Cher Horowitz, in some kind of TV sequel to “Clueless”?
Sadly, no. And the really bad news is that, unlike the Alicia-free TV version of “Clueless,” “Miss Match” will not be written and directed by “Clueless” creator and comedy genius Amy Heckerling (“Fast Times At Ridgemont High,” “Look Who’s Talking”).
“Miss Match” was created instead by talent-challenged, lottery-winner-like writer-director Darren Star, purveyor and mastermind of such feculent wonders as “Beverly Hills 90210,” “Melrose Place,” “Central Park West,” “Sex and the City,” “Grosse Pointe” and “The $treet.”
Here’s “Pimp Daddy,” who says he won’t be watching:
NBC’s Miss Match is essentially Clueless the series with a dash of Ally
Mcbeal (only without the witty humour and special effects). Be warned,
the word cute is used excessively throughout.
“Alicia Silverstone stars as Kaite in this charming new drama who is a
sharp divorce attorney in her father's law firm and by night has a
knack for matchmaking, which she considers a hobby until a socialite bride
credits Kate for her romantic success in the press and word of her
talent spreads. Soon, to the dismay of her father, Sid, and her reluctant
legal partner Nick she is juggling the conflicting worlds of divorce and
true love. With her best friend Victoria at her side, Kate is
determined to bring a little romance into her world, perhaps finding her own
true love in the process.”
This is of course the 4th new show this year (Fearless (please for the
love of God cancel it quickly), Tru Calling and Karen Sisco (Out Of
Sight continued, looks very promising), which will have a female lead,
only this show doesn’t involve guns n stuff.
Is there anything wrong with this show? Not really, it’s…cute. Alicia
plays Kate Fox who is a divorce attorney at her fathers law firm. For
the majority of the episode she sets random people up (by the end I’m not
completely sure who she sets up as there are so many of them) as well
as trying to do her job (in a very Ally Mcbeal angle she meets a couple
who are about to get married, only the fiancé wants the bride to sign a
preunp saying she won’t get fat and then there’s also a case where a
guy is leaving his wife but won’t hand their dog over unless his wife
gives him half of her moolah).
She has no luck with her own boyfriend, seems she can find the right
people for everyone but herself, like I said, cute show. She also has
this whole ethics problem, so she’s one of those rare “good lawyers” who
try and do the right thing (here’s me thinking this show was meant to be
believable), much to her father’s frustration.
Will I be watching? Probably not, not that there’s anything wrong with
this show it’s cute, the acting and plots are ok too, but it's not my
kind of show (someone always needs to be blown up to hold my attention).
But I’m sure this will appeal to a certain demographic because for the
type of show it is, it’s not bad.
Oh and of course Alicia’s Silverstone’s character is rich and stylish
as always….
