BUBBA HO-TEP trailer and the Man-God Bruce Campbell in Glorious Quicktime!

Published at:  Jul 25, 2003 6:00:51 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... Well the Gods found a way to unleash BUBBA HO-TEP upon humanity, unfortunately... it won't be appearing in 3500 screens nationwide with a $40 million dollar marketing budget and a giant inflatable balloon version of Bruce Campbell's Elvis atop the Empire State Building clutching his walker high about his head... but fucking reality is often the place we find ourselves in, and we don't make it, we simply tolerate it. IF - If you're lucky enough to be in a town that gets BUBBA HO-TEP run with all your might and buddies and see the film 12 times. Do it for the King baby! The power of Campbell compells you!

HOLY LORD!!!!

Apple's just posted the KICKASS BUBBA-HO-TEP TRAILER IN
QUICKTIME!!!!!

GET THAT LINK UP!!!!!

Click here to Hail to the King Baby!

(IT GAVE ME THE BIGGEST, BLACKEST BONER EVER!!!)

Keep on rockin' in the free world,

-Jack Burton

Quint just sent this in...

Ahoy squirts. Quint here with the goods on one of my favorite as yet unseen by the masses flicks. You've been hearing about BUBBA HO-TEP from me and others on this site for at least 2 years. Now it's finally coming to a theatre near you... well, that's if you live in one of the cities below. Here's where and when BUBBA HO-TEP will be playing:

September 26 - NEW YORK CITY - Angelika Film Center

October 3 - LOS ANGELES - Landmark's Nuart Theater/ Irvine - University 6

October 3 - SAN DIEGO - Landmark's Ken Theater

October 10 - SAN FRANCISCO - The Castro Theater

October 17 - CHICAGO - Landmark's Century Centre Cinema

October 24 - AUSTIN - (tentative- not yet confirmed with Tim at the Alamo)

November 7 - ATLANTA

September 19 - SEATTLE - Landmark's Varsity Theater

September 19 - PORTLAND - Cinema 21 Theater

I'm told that there may be a bit of National Enquirer-esque Elvis sightings in some of these cities, though you didn't hear that from me. I'm also told that more cities might be added. I'll keep you folks informed.

If you don't live in any of the above cities or can't wait until the eventual DVD release, then head over to Apple and check out the cool lookin' trailer in glorious Quicktime. Be warned, though. The trailer gives away some of the best money shots in the film. (Check it out here!!! )

Enjoy, squirts!

Wow, that was a pretty good trailer. It took a while to get around the plot which sounded a bit goofy. But hey when has a Bruce Campbell horror film ever been serious in the last ten years? I love the whole Elvis thing Bruce as pulled of, especially when he strikes that 'Elvis Karate' move. It seems to be a running gag throuought the movie which I hope they don't wear out too soon. As for the horror aspect I like the presentation of the mummy thing. It looks pretty creepy. So far all the reviews I've heard from all of you are positive so this goes alongside Cabin Fever in my list of movies to look for.

They should make a movie around Bruce's Ring Announcer in Spider-man. I have no idea what the heck Bubba Ho Tep is, even though I've been hearing about it forever. I gave up on looking forward to Bruce Campbell projects because they're so hit and miss, but that's how it goes with low budgeters. Kind of like Leslie Neilson movies. Anyway, where is Harry's Tit Raider review? I want to laugh at how badly he disses this thing.

I saw Bubba Ho-Tep last night at the Fantasia festival and think that the crowd spoke for itself. There were cheers every time Bruce so much as farted for the first hour of the film but dead silence for the last 30 minutes. I'm sorry to say this, but the silence wasn't one of awe but rather of dissapointment. I think I heard the word "crap" used several times upon leaving the theatre and let's not forgot that the cinema was filled with 720 hard-core Bruce Campbell fans, myself included. It could have been better. It could have been good for that matter but just, well, wasn't.

I mean, nobody's told Harvey Weinstein "hey Harvey, the kids think this Bruce Campbell fella is like god or something, maybe we should pick up this movie"? It absolutely amazes me some of these studio execs are so rich and so clueless, all at the same time.

This is getting annoying .. Little kids with spellcheck, a thesaurus, and access to far too many others' reviews posting pseudo-serious talkbacks just to do what?? Piss on someone's cheerios anonymously?? Is this because the big bad local bully craps in your locker and uses your gym socks for toilet paper everyday?? I sthat why you come on these sites past your beddy-bye times and rain on others' parades?? I admit I knocked on the Mtrix:Reloaded, but if ever a movie deserved to have an honest dissing of its contents, which were worthy of a sever poking in the guts, it was that one. Its dfenders resorted to the standard defnese of wannabes when explaining the unexplainable, or defendig the horrid. They say, " You just didn't get the film's hidden meanings and complex structure and thematic arc." I got them .. ALl of them .. When they were bad short sci-fi stories in the journals of Analog and other sci-fi publications. I got them when they were fragments of stories from "The Twilight Zone," new and old. I got them when they were done better in those forums and without the cheeseball deadweight "WhoAmI" Reeves, officially the most overpaid actor in history. If you really did not laugh in this flick, then it was not that you did not "get it," but rahter that unlike Disney flicks, you happened to be in a film not geared towards your target demographic. This flick is for those people who have seen monsters on screen outside of video games or moives based on those games. It is for people who watched Troma films when they were just showing up in rentl stores, howling in disbleieving mirth at jokes that made Porky's and the other hip"R-rated comedies" of the 80's obsolete. I watched a VH-1 special on "American Pie", a drum-beating rally for viewers for "American Wedding." I can only hope that the footage of the "filmmakers" in this special ond on the extended scenes versions of the oriinal movie were being self-sarcastic, because they missed the point of the truly funny movie, while totally missing the reasons the first movie worked(and explaining it seemed why the first sequel sucked "in so many ways".) This flick is possibly not going to be everything it could be, but letting Bruce loose is never a bad thing, and it seems he was cut free several times in this--worth a watch for someone who saw the original AoD in theaters after enjoying the ED's 1 and 2 so often on video. by johnny ahab

Y'know, when I first came on this site back in 1997, I heard all this raving about Bruce Campbell. I came late to movie geekdom, and I'd missed the Evil Dead films when they first came out. So I saw them on video -- a lot of fun, guilty pleasure, but still, what's the big deal with all the Bruce worship? Then I saw both EVIL DEAD II and ARMY OF DARKNESS at a PACKED screening at the Brooklyn Academy of Music last year before I split NY for DC. And I overheard the film programmer say, "this is the fastest we've ever sold out any film program at BAM." Not only did the movies just rock on the bigscreen in a packed theater of full of whooping Bruce fans, but Bruce was there for a Q&A afterwards -- and he was just mesmerizing. Hilarious, electric, self-deprecating -- and the crowd ate it up. Then he signs books for a few hours, and lets each fan sit with him for 5 minutes as they get to chat. I walked away amazed at the guy's generosity toward his fans, and indeed became a new cult member for life. I just love this guy and will see anything he does, no matter how cheesy. If the traveling Bruce show comes to your town, GO -- and you will see for yourself why this B actor is so well loved. I can never imagine a George Clooney or Harrison Ford doing this (and Harr, you might wanna consider this to get some of your fans back, bud!) Bruce Campbell is a god among men.

I love Bruce Campbell. I have loved him since first seeing Evil Dead II, and being very confused. Not only because i became sexually aroused, but because i had been forbidden from seeing said classic for many years by my parents, until a chance showing on Bravo garnered yours truly an oppurtunity to be scared witless. Except, it wasn't scary. That bit where Ash falls in the puddle? Freaky shit. But i couldn't stop laughing. Right there, Bruce entered mine soul. He is truly one of the best actors in the industry as far as comedic timing goes. And, he answered my email! Thereby confirming that he is truly a God amongst Gods-With-Smaller-Jaws. On the down side, my fiancee has been under his amourous spell since seeing Army Of Darkness, and has requested that i don some belt-strap contraption and command that she "gimme some suger". Or, indeed, that she might "Hail to the king", the king being myself. And its nice to know finally why these talkbacks get stretched. it is about as annoying (but not quite, even though i cant read them without my eyes going squinty), as the constant use of terms like Retard or Gay in these rooms as derogadry remarks. if someone refered to Martin Lawrence as "such a nigger", would we be so complacent? By all means, feel free to verbally (or typographically) assault Mr. Lawrence, but please, let it be for his ridiculous choices of starring roles and general lack of personality, and not for stupid superficial reasons. same applies to anyone else. Rant over.

    by jasondkeldar

The target audience for the movies, tours, and probably concerts just isn;t large enough to risk the potential loss. I live in Memphis, and when things do come here they come to my town or Germantown, usually, which are suburbs of Memphis. Only now is Downtown being reclaimed from industrial trashing, and tricked out as more than a drinking spot. Give the city government time to nearly collapse and revamp your city by force and maybe the worm will turn . With luck your government won;t let the freaks take over the leadership poitions but rather the former geeks who have jobs and families but enough heart left to remember what is best in life. (...And if you can quote THAT line, you really were one of the guys with heart from back in the day, or in the days here and now.)

Just want to point out that the Irvine University 6 theater is in Orange County and not Los Angeles County. Although many would like to lump us in with all the jackoffs in L.A. Unlike the portrayal of residents in the awful Orange County movie with Jack Black or the soon to be cancelled O.C. by MCRib..MC B...McHammer or whoever the hell that shitty director is we tend to get a majority of movies that have limited releases. I mean I figure it would take to much work to you know add us a seperate entry into that huge list of cities Bubba Ho-Tep will be playing in but I am just glad that I will be able to watch it without having to take that horrible drive up the 405 to L.A(you know in a different county).

You are absolutely right! Why can't Detroit get a screening, considering Bruce grew up right here in Michigan? There are quite a few of us here who are just drooling at the thought of seeing "Bubba Ho-Tep."

I'd sure rather spend my money to see it than waste it on the typical mega-budget, lame-brained Hollywood blockbuster stuff that's come out lately. Whether or not it works, (that is, if we ever get to *see* it) at least somebody's tried to do something *original* for a change.
