Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

I first saw footage from this thing in a hotel room... seems like it was two years ago or so at this point. It can’t have been that long, can it? He didn’t really shoot this thing that far back, did he? This was after SPY KIDS 2, right?

Hey Harry!!!!

I ran across another trailer for Robert Rodriguez's next film..."Once Upon A Time In Mexico"...aka Desperado 2 aka El Mariachi 3! Just click on "Previews."

CHECK THIS OUT!!

Can't wait to see this one!

SCaRfACe`

You’ve been busy this morning, guy. Thanks for sending me all the heads-up notices. I’ve gotta go watch this trailer now...

  • At least that what I've picked up from tidbits RR, Knowles and Tarantino have dropped here and there about these flicks. The title itself is a Leone tribute. Clint may or may not be the same recurring character ("Joe", Manco, "Blondie"), but Lee van Cleef's Colonel Mortimer in Few Dollars More isn't Angel Eyes in BG&E. Nor is the Italian actor--dammit, name's escaping me--playing El Indio in Fistful of Dollars. Eh, sorry, sounding like a pedantic cineaste-hole dick. All that's a "no shit." Just sayin, don't think one-to-one sequel. So, like actor-continuity's out the window from no-budget El Mariachi to studio-backed Desperado, I'm curious to see how much backstory is ignored in this last Mariachi chapter. Can't fucking wait, as a matter of fact, looks like the utter nuts. Didn't know about half that cast--Depp, jesus christ! Sweet score, rodriguez, gonna capitalize on Pirates velly nicely. Now how about a three-times-longer reprise of Salma's debut love scene? Sorry, Norton, but thy woman is coveted.

Hate to give that beret wearing frenchman who occasionaly poses as an american beatnik any credit but he tends to do offbeat interesting material (even in mainstream flicks like Pirates) and his involvement gives some indication that the sequel to one of the more groundbreaking American-released action films will be more than a uninspired rehash of the same material.

Dudes, it is called Once Upon a Time in Mexico, not Mariachi III

    by jasondkeldar

Give RR credit and enough acknowledgment to guess that Danny and Cheech can play different characters in different movies he has cast them in. Sheeesh, you would think everyone thinks that Pesci in Lethal Weapon and Gibson in the same series are the way to resolve bringing actors back to a "franchise" fiml installment. Luckily for us this may feature the "Hombre with No Name," but the director/writer/co-producer knows that you can be in two of his movies and not play the same character. Antonio needs to never make another English language film without RR watching his back. "Ballistic: Eccccccchhhhhsss vs Whatever" has to hold the title for worst film, trailer, premise, title, and use of actor in the last 50 years. The crud that was that film, and his role in Assassins nearly sent him back to Spain, Banderas that is, and could you imagine having to take that whinefest of a wife to a country where noone will bother trying to understand her Spanish in hopes she will shut her trap and stop inflicting that voice on the surrounding environment. Poor Antonio, but lucky man he is he has a movie he can enjoy and work his frustrations out in, as well as work his rusting actor muscles out. I WILL SEE THIS MOVIE.

    Curse of Banderas

    by rupee88

R.R. is a good director and seems like a fun guy, but what move can suffer Antonio Banderas and be any good? Selma Hayak is pretty annoying too. Maybe Mr. Depp will save this movie, although it looks pretty unsufferable. Well, I guess the "latino community" is big now so maybe they will turn out to see this because it is about "their people". It looks dumb though so I hope it doesn't make any money. I'll rent Spy Kids 3-D instead.

Read your press bro. Rodriguez said during Desperado's filming t

    by jasondkeldar

He further states that he would not remake El Mariachi with Banderas, since the characters were not necessarily the same, but rather the movies were stylistically different, as if they were stroies told by different people about the characters involved, to the point where the more the legend grows, the more tall the tale grows, the violence escalating as does the scale and scope of the myths surrounding this "el Mariachi". Desperado was a title chosen because the gringos had heard the Eagles song lo so many years ago, and most of us equate mariachi with Charro and bad Mexcian-themed restaurants in the States(Texican actually, since most Mexican owned joints don't care about entertainment being so very "authentic"). The point of this rant is that the Leone movies were NOT a trilogy, but rather a more honest approach to the older cowboy stars multiple movies playing the same character with different names to placate the screenwriters. Leone and Rodriguez have been able to work around this since they OWNED their proerties outright. Smart fellas, huh. And I don't see a scarface posting anywhere in the talkback, or is that a nickname you have for a friend in talkbacks??

    by originalskoobx

We never saw Cheech die in Desperado. It was said that he got it worse than the others. Watch the trailer, Cheech is clearly blind now. But remember, we never saw him die. We saw the bullet view rushing towards him, the screen turn black, and heard a nasty splat sound, but no visual confirmation. As far as tattoo boy goes, I don't know or care how he is back. This movie is going to rock.

Heh, I wonder if the titles in the movie itself also will say "shot, chopped and scored by RR" instead of edited. That would be kind of sweet.

And,OrionsAngel, speaking of no music in T3's action scenes. I think it was probably the main reason I liked the car chase so much. If the scene is shot with enough energy and it's edited right, then I dont need some re-harshed drum-and-bass beat to "pump it up".

    by rupee88

I guess there's nothing wrong with people going ot see movies with characters that have the same ethnic background as they do...it's just this movie looks dumb and I hate to see it succeed because people just go see it because of their ethic group. It just seems like a niche film that will suck, but will do still do well. I don't have anything against Robert Rodriguez though. His short in "Four Rooms" was good and I loved "From Dusk Till Dawn", although I give Tarantino the majority of the credit for that one. Spy Kids 3-D looks like a fun rental too.

Rodrequez said something about film being dead...?

    by mr_ant

Well if the look of this trailer is anything to go by, then if film is dead, then so is cinema. 24p looks like video, and video looks like SHIT. Hey did you see the fire in those explosions? it's 2 tone - it looks posterized! video can't handle the kind of exposure range so it clips, you see it in this trailer everywhere, windows, skies etc are really badly overexposed and blown out. It looks like a porno, but without the sex. And if you try and tell me this 'look' is a deliberate style, well maybe, but the fact is that you CAN'T do any other style with 24p because video doesn't have the colour contrast ratios to deal with it. What's so depressing is that the standards for quality of image in the cinema are getting LOWER and lower as time goes by and technology is supposedly improving. We've gone from Vistavision quality images in the fucking 50's to "big video" at less than 2k resolution. God Damn this looks pathetically uncinematic. It's not even in Scope!

You are mistaken with which bartender that cheech played.

The on that "got it worst of all" was killed in the flashback scene. (I have neve heard of anyone just going blind from a shotgun blast to the face, anyway)

The bartender that Cheech played was killed (shot in the head) during the shootout in the bar. He was killed by the accountant that was in the back room.

    by salem hanna

I'm desperately trying to find a song by a Texan band that came out in the UK in late summer/early autumn 1998. Can't remember the band's name or the name of the single, but the lyrics went: "They made up their mind...and they started packing...left before the sun came up that day...an exit to eternal summer slacking...where were they going without ever knowing the way?" And the chorus went: "Anyone could see the road they were travelling was paved in gold...it's always summer they'll never get cold...they'll never get hungry, they'll never get old and grey..." Can anyone help me out with what the band/song name are? Again, sorry for being off-topic.
