A Few New HARRY POTTER Rumors!!
Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
Okay, first of all, looks like those Dementors pictures last week were indeed superfake. TheOneRing.net ran a very effective proof of this that showed how they were doctored up. That’s good news, though. The e-mails I got from the effects guys working on the Dementors make it sound like they’re something very, very different. In the meantime, I had to edit up the opening paragraph of this e-mail to protect the identity of the source, but it sounds like a pretty solid, if brief, bit of info. Seems they showed some footage recently at a halfway party for the production, and as a result, we’ve got some new buzz for you...
hi harry
love the site,
The look is much much darker and creepier, the sets are the same but the lighting etc is much more shadowy
The scenes she saw were pam ferris being blown up, the initial train scenes with the dementors (who hadnt been put in yet), michael gambon as dumbledore (more commanding, threatening and moody), and a scene with dumbledore racing upstairs which she thought looked a bit odd as you wouldnt think he would be so nimble.
There was more but she hasnt read the books so she couldnt really say what they were.
Gary Oldman as Sirius is as described in book – really greasy long black hair and shabby clothes. The werewolf is enormous and the different heads for the transformation are quite horrific. She thinks that this might get a twelve rating over here. The animagus sirius is also huge and effective with someone inside controlling the animatronics
i know its all a bit sketchy but if theres anything else, il send you the gossip. Thanks to The Weasley Boys for the info. Please… keep us posted if you hear anything else.
"Moriarty" out.

Think before you post next time, DF. Some of us (i.e. me) have been saving OOtP for a bit of summer reading and have been fastidiously avoiding spoilers since mid-June. Thanks again.

A million to one odds that Harry Potter gets naked in this one!
by mbaker
Harry Potter SUCKS! 'Nuff said, Brother!!
-
...Please remove that FUCKWIT's post - there's a lot of people who haven't read OOtP and the moronic imbecile has just spoiled it like a spiteful child. Cheers Drew.
-
Yes this is a site with spoilers, but we're talking spoilers about the _5th_ _BOOK_ in a talkback about the _3rd_ _MOVIE_. And no it hasn't been all over the news. If it had, I would have already known the details of the spoiler you posted.
-
So what the fuck. Are you guys really interested in gay literature? A bloke from London did a thorough research of the Potter books. It's nothing more than pure gaydom. Nuff said.
-
I have my problems with this report, mainly because it clearly states in the books that Sirius Black's animagus form is a normal sized black dog, probably about the size of a Labrador retriever. Unless the spy actually meant the hippogriff (which is not an animagus)?

"DONT RESIST IT HARRY,YOUR A WIZAR NOW!" Of course, these events would have to take place when Harry is the age of consent for homosexuals (18),so not in this film,as that would just be sick.............

His postings were erased but he refuses to give up. That's the spirit, man! Why is it that everyone bitches about a bit of nice plain spoilage? I mean, isn't this the site where geeks from all around the world meet each other and drool for every bit of measly info they can get?
-
But I guess it's Harry and Ron who will be at it!
-
Actually, the books describe Sirius' animagi form as being huge. Personally, I envisioned something more akin to a mastiff than a labradour.
-
GOD DAM MIT! Gary Oldman is WRONG WRONG WRONG! for Sirius. GAHHHHH! thanks casting jerks, for pissing me off royally, and causing me to freak out my coworkers with my cursings and desk-poundings. Sirius is my favorite character, ya just had to SCREW IT UP for me, didntcha. Didntcha. No, you couldn't cast someone who actually LOOKED like Sirius. Bastards. no offense to Gary Oldman, but I hate you for accepting this role.
-
Once again IMDB is a soothing balm to the oppressed and wounded. At least Timothy Spall has been cast as Pete Pettigrew, and this David Thewlis chap looks wolfish enough.
-
Harry Potter books are not that amzing they are boring actually and the movies are not well made... So who cares about this??? Also Gary Oldman kicks ass remember 5th Element and The Professional?
-
Personally, I
-
Just because Oldman doesn't fit the picture in your masturbatory fantasy, does not mean he's wrong for the part.
I'd much rather have a quality actor playing Sirius than one who looks the part but can't act his way out of a paper-bag.
Why not actually wait until the movie is released and then judge...
-
Lanky hair, brooding, lupine yes, but he's also supposed to be handsome, protective and charismatic. I would think along the lines of Daniel Day Lewis. Not that Gary Oldman isn't a great actor. I just don't think he's right for this part. Merlin's Beard!!!
-
I just hope people don't bitch about it being too scary. I also hope they keep that Dumbledore running scene out, that would look odd.
-
They made Hagrid look like a giant, they can make Siruis look taller. And what distinguishing facial features were actually described in the book that Oldman doesn't have or can't acquire via makeup? Did I read wrong & not realize Sirius Black is actually black?

If wanting a character to be cast true to the text is a masturba
by gypsytrobot
then guilty as charged. What are you, Oldman's mom? It would take the inestimable talents of Rick Baker to make Oldman look tall, handsome and noble (or at least showing former vestiges thereof). But maybe I'm not giving ol Gary a chance as I've only seen him in the 5th Element, plus snippets of Dracula and Lost in Space. When I think of him playing Sirius, I think of his dorky villain from 5th Element and that leads me to wonder if I'll be happy when he meets the curtain in movie 5.
-
And I don't know how tall he is as a person, but he is supposed to be a big dog. Probably Irish Wolfhound size, but that's as big as it gets. It's true he is supposed to be a handsome man, but his good looks have faded quite a bit due to his incarceration in Azkaban. I don't doubt that Gary Oldman will do an excellent job. I have to say, way to go Harry on opening the flood gates for stories. I'm having trouble keeping up, this should stop the bitching over lack of news.
-
You know, I really like the idea of a faster Dumbledore. Don't get me wrong, I liked the Dumbledore of the first two movies. It's just that he always seemed more active and spritely in the books. He seemed more likely to wink than to look thoughtful, more likely to dance a merry jig, rather than watch other people do it quietly.
-
...to the onering.net's debunking of the dementors?
i'd like to see that but i can't find it on their site. -
People who have only seen Gary Oldman in the Fifth Element or one other movie are being so stupid. "Gary Oldman is too UGLY to be Sirius!" Since when was Gary Oldman a horrible, ugly man that will do a bad job at playing Sirius Black? You haven't seen him play him yet. You don't know what he looks like in the movie. Don't go off assuming things before you don't know anything about them.
-

Oh wow, thanks for letting us know that dementor image was faked
by smeg for brains
I mean anyone who didn't see it and instantly recognize it as a doctored image of some Ring Wraiths from LOTR must be VERY stupid indeed. Also Gary Oldman is a terrific choice for Sirius. Even if you have a personal problem with his looks, which is nothing but your own opinion, Sirius isn't handsome. He WAS handsome, but he has spent many years in Azkaban. He is now supposed to look hardened. Anyways Gary Oldman is an amazing actor, and everybody should feel wonderful that he would even do a Harry Potter movie. Would you rather have Freddy Prince Jr.? I can't wait for this movie because this is the best Harry Potter book, and it isn't too long to accurately adapt, unlike the Fourth and Fifth books which are going to have to be heavily edited to make them fit in a movie. Not that I would rather the books be short. It is just too bad that the movies won't be able to fully capture the books after this third one.
-
The fifth book seemed to make it pretty clear that Sirius, like many other previous occupants of Azkaban, WAS good looking at one time, but isn't any more. Everyone that comes out of Azkaban is a pale, almost ghoulish version of their former self, with more skeletal features, sagging eyes, paler skin, and an overall "back from the dead" look about them. Gary Oldman would be perfect for that, except for the fact that they can't just give him a lot of makeup to make him look younger in the flashbacks featuring Sirius. There's no way they're going to be able to pass off Gary Oldman as a handsome teenage pretty boy, so they'll have to find some sort of look-alike. ---- As for how tall Sirius is, they've never really mentioned his exact height, but he's about a head taller than Snape in the American version's illustrations. Then again, Alan Rickman looks nothing like the illustrations of Snape. He lacks the "Asian/Middle-Eastern Prince of Darkness" facial hair, which makes him look like a cross between Fu Manchu and Jafar from Disney's "Aladdin".

Hopefully, they'll lengthen each subsequent adaptation of the HP series into multiple films (a la 'Kill Bill') in order to adequately hit all the notes that the books did. It seems like a no-brainer to me; not only do fans get a (relatively) more satisfying adaptation, but Warner Bros. gets to make about $530 million off of a production that would, under regular circumstances, only pull in about $260 mil. Addressing those of you who habitually visit every Harry Potter news brief in order to tell its followers that their franchise of interest sucks, I'd like to say this: before giving your ego (or perhaps, sour grapes) a workout by being a jackass to millions, consider the fact that, while perhaps overrated, the Harry Potter novels (and movies, for that matter) most certainly do NOT "suck." Yeah, it's subjective, and its mondo-success is arguably undeserved, but if you're being impartial (or if you've read more than one chapter in the middle of the first book), you'd be able to admit to the fact that it's not as worthless as you make it out to be. Believe me, I'm not a Pothead, but it just seems like you wouldn't be posting such bile-drenched observations if you didn't carry some sort of bias towards the series (or your self-worth, which is possibly even worse).
-
The guy's done somewhere around 40 movies, and you say he sucks after seeing him in ONE, where he plays his stupid character very well. The guy's a chameleon. Watch "JFK", watch "Leon" (The Professional), watch "Sid and Nancy", watch "Henry and June", watch "Hannibal", watch "Rosencrantz and Gildenstern Are Dead", and watch "Immortal Beloved" and THEN come back and tell us what you think of Oldman. He's a genius actor (and this is coming from and actor/director). He's an actor's actor. There isn't a role he can't make his own, and then utterly disappear inside of it. You've probably watched him more than you think, and just never realized you were watching him. I think he'll make an excellent Sirius Black. ...Personally, though, I can't wait to see who plays Mad-Eye Moody.

I still would have liked Richard E. Grant as Sirius and Paul McGann as Lupin.

Why are you guys so pissed about Oldman? It's not as if he'll be around past the 5th film anyway... Oops, um, sorry.
-
You guys seem to be forgetting that the whole point of Sirius Black is that he has to look like he might be a deranged serial killer. OK he turns out to be ok, but he has to look like he could be a nutter. You're supposed to think he's the bad guy. And Gary Oldman does look like he could be a nutter. Anyway, here's some pics of Oldman that might convince you...

Christopher Lloyd would be good...but Mcdowell would own!

I must admit that I was a skeptic until very recently as to the merits of the HP books and movies. Now, after seeing both films and having read some of the material I can see why it would be so hugely popular with younger readers. Yet to me the biggest buzz about the whole phenomenon is that it has provided a grand showcase for many lesser-known British performers to strut their often too-little-seen-or-acknowledged talents (and yeah, David Thewlis, a big heads up after many years in celluloid purgatory; 'Big Lebowski' aside). In all sincerity, regardless what one personally makes of the HP phenomenon or the material, how could anyone not be delighted to see such a cavalcade of talent crammed into any such movie; anyday, anytime, anyhow? I mean how many kids Stateside would ever have seen anything to do with performers such as Robbie Coltrane or Timothy Spall otherwise?
-
anyone have any news on cho chang? she cast yet? what about cedric diggory? now, there's a guy who HAS to be a pretty boy, not like sirius, who at one time was handsome but twelve years spent in azkaban in company of dementers will do something to someone's prettyboyishness...
-
So why hasn't he been banned yet? Personally, I stayed offline until I finished OOTP because I knew there'd be assholes like him trolling around.
-
Oh yes, Harry potter are books for children, so of course that must mean Harry is gay!
Gary Oldman seems ok. I have absolutly no opinion on him.
But the HP films...YIKES! Talk about mass disappointment...they are rubbish (this is a person who knows the books like the back of my hand speaking, so of course im disappointed). LOTR films are wonderful, but the book isnt very good in my opinion.
As for revealing who died in the 5th book...If you dont want to know, put your fingers in your ears, sing loudly, and close your eyes until you get around to reading it. Unless you finished it in the first weekend, its going to be ruined for you. BTW, its ********* who dies. And he dies by ******* ******* a ****.
Anyway, it sounds like the 3rd movie will be better becuase of the new director. No HP film will ever satisfy me, but itll be better anyway. -
Alright, honestly, you guys must have not seen any of oldman's films in order to see him as a horrible Sirius Black. He's a genius when it comes to acting..easily one of the best in the world. Go rent Sid and Nancy, Leon (The Professional), Romeo is Bleeding (he sure isnt bad looking in that one), JFK, the Scarlet Letter (once again, not bad looking..handsome and i normally hate long hair), and, last but not least, dracula. If you go see those movies and still see him as a horrible sirius black, let me know..because id certainly love to know why.
Alas, here are some pictures of oldman where he is..at least, not bad looking.. http://www.garyoldman.com.ar/photo30.htm

Oh c'mon. They couldn't have picked a better Sirius. Gary Oldman is one of the most talented actors around, as well as one of the sexiest.

SEE THIS is why folks dismiss talkbacks out-of-hand.. Gary Oldma
by jasondkeldar
True in the book he has been bulit up as "The Big Bad Wolf" to Harry, but he actually recoils from the physical presence, not knowing for sure if it is him but this charater is nearly insane, surviving by his ability to mask his presence of mind thru disconnection until he HAS to break free from prison to protect Harry. Plus, the description of Sirius as Padfoot was of a dog of huge size, this in the same book that calls "Fang" a "biggish dog". Since things need scaling much more on film than they do in books where you are often imagining things from your own perspective, to make Padfoot imposing in size would lead more to the classic mastiff size, or perhaps even larger than a Shetland Pony. Here is simply hoping that the Kill Bill intermission of three+months works, and that Goblet and Order can be split. Who would have thought that yearlong waits for the Rings movies would be OK, but people can wait for sequels or completions as the Rings movies are more-accurately described, when they know the product is worth the wait. Whne the original Potter novel was released, I could imagine the fans who read it and had to wait for Chamber were quite nervous to see if the author was a one-note writer, but she showed flexibility and more importantly for a second novel, the willingness to take into account that her second book wouold be most likely read by people who enjoyed the first already, and had developed farther in the course of their lives to appreciate that the second should not be simply geared towards third-grade reading levels, a mistake childrens' literature falls into, as if children who actually read books to themselves never grow up but play Lost Boys mentally for their entire childhood. Hope that the series keeps getting darker and that fewer of its readers will be seduced by writers who feel their work is" more mature" and thus convince people that "mature" people read only one sort of book or enjoy one sort of entertainment--to wit, modern-art'ish literature and film(AKA known as boirng lessons in college appreciation-class formulas). Enjoy the movies, books, programs, plays, and art that you like and screw anyone who thinks their entertainment should be enjoyed by you even though it really is not that entertaining or often less informative and enlightening than the soup cans Andy Warhol once satirized and immortalized as just as artistic as any other art.The fact that those who followed in the modern art and film world never appreciated the irony they were being introduced to makes it all the more amusing for serious people who don't take BS lessons in liberal arts colleges.
-
I mean, the guy is supposed to have gone to school with Harry's father. It just seems unlikely.
-
Well, they have to continue to cast as they've been doing and that's been sckewed pretty old: i.e. Rickman.
Just from my personal opinion as woman who has seen Oldman in many films, I thinl he's been perfectly cast and fits "the description" perfectly. Again, I say, some women were looking for a sex fantasy (not what JK descibed, but what they "saw") instead of an actor. -

Oldman is probably the greatest actor around at the moment
by snuggleskunk
Right...Gary Oldman is perfect for Sirius in POA. The only problem is going to be the flashback in the fifth book as you said but personally I don't want to see the fourth and fifth books made into films. The first two were bad enough at leaving out any character development, building any tension or even getting the more important sub plots going. I mean in Chamber of Secrets for a whole term Harry feels like an outsider because everyone suspects him of being evil and setting snakes on people. You don't get any feeling of that in the fiulm because it just rockets on to the next thing one after the other. POA lends itself to being a film more than any of the other books and with Alfonso Cuaron it should be great. Look at the visuals he brought to the Little Princess (one of my most hated books from my childhood but bearable in his hands) And Great Expectations he gave this wonderful feeling of magic and childlikes wonderment. Couldn't have picked a better man for the job.
Oh and finallly whoever said they didn't like the Lord of the Rings books - I love the Harry Potter books, I really do. JK Rowling knows how to tell a story but they are not works of literary ghenius. The writing is not superior in a literary sense to any of the great children writers ( AA Milne, Carroll, Ursula Le Guin, Roald Dahl, Philip Pullman) and if you think that the Lord of The rings books are crap you obviously just enjoy the superficial story of it all like a soap opera rather than appreciating the brilliant way words are used to convey images emotions feelings. Philistine! -
Cool site btw...
1) Homophobes suck!
2) Garry Oldman is just about the most perfect choice that could have been made to portray Sirius...come on...he's bloody amazing and there are these wondrous things movie makers can do to augment one's appearance - hmmmm make-up and wigs?
3) Did I mention...homophobes suck?! Only one who is truly uncomfortable w/ their own sexuality chides others for theirs...
