Trailer for Sofia Coppola's LOST IN TRANSLATION with Bill Murray which looks brilliant!

Published at:  Jul 14, 2003 2:28:00 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... Go check out this trailer and see if you don't fall in love with the concept of seeing this film. This flick looks fantastic, the exact sort of film I love seeing Bill Murray in. A film that plays so well to all of his strengths. It can not arrive soon enough!

Hi Harry

I just saw that there is a trailer available for "Lost in Translation", the
second movie directed by Sofia Coppola with the extraordinary Bill Murray and
the lovely and talented Scarlett Johansson in the leading roles. I'm really
looking forward for this quiet and probably beautiful character piece,
especially since the extremely positive test screening review you ran on the site
lately.
Unfortunately the trailer is just available in a crappy streaming format
.

Why can't Bill Murray Stick to this kind of work

    by danzig013

I mean, Rushmore was great, this loks great. It seems that i his old age, he strides best in character work. Now if we can only get Steve Martin to do more LA Story & Grand Canyon style work.

    Speacking of great character work...

    by danzig013

...has anyone seen a film called "My First Mister". I just saw it recently and wow. What a great film. It had Albert Brooks as a fifty-something year old clothing salesman who befriends a 17-18 year old punk/goth (played wonderfully by the great Leelee Sobieski). It was directed by Christine Lahti of all people. I totally suggest checking it out.

    by weedymcsmokey

What the fuck!?! Who the fuck do you think you are!?! Only one person I can think of would say that - Lucy Liu. Lucy muthafukin' Liu. I know it's you bitch - you can't hide behind no muthafuckin' internet anonymity - I can smell your lazy eye, freckly face ass from across the country. Man brought nothin' but credibility to yer little Angels house party, glorified masterbating home movie - and you gotta shit all over him. The man walked out of the theatre wiping shit outta his eyes. It was all over - and it smelled like chow mein. That's it bitch - Imma stick my foot so far up yo ass you can taste odor-eater; you'll be shittin those little shoelace covers next Tuesday; Imma Ecks yer ass, then Severe yer jugular, bitch! Imma comin'!

    Bill Murray is a GOD!!!!

    by kid ab

To me he Is Peter Venkman, and as for Steve Martin, if his next film Shopgirl is anything to go with then we will see a return to the L.A Story & Grand Canyon in which he revelled in. It also stars the second mest sexiest tomboy beanpole on the planet Claire Danes and unfunny cunt Jimmy Fallon.

    Murray is the cynical God.

    by davidcamp

How brilliantly Cynical and sarcastic was he in all his movies from 1980 to the mid 90's.

He has gone off a bit recently, but still ends up being the best thing in every movie he's in.

I want him to win many an award for this movie! Murray forever.

    YOU ALL ARE FUCKING PATHETIC

    by christianzane

There Harry goes again, "BRILLIANT", "GENIUS", "GOD", the Master of Hyperbole, the King of Hype, the Earl of Embellishment, using the "B" word when he hasn't even seen the film, that is what sucks about this place, it's all fucking movie fanatics who are desperate for entertainment and will use words like that after watching at two fucking minute trailer. Save your "brilliants" and "he is fucking God" and "Genius" for when they are truly deserved.

    by miltonwaddams

i love murray, i have all of the movies, but this trailer looked mediocre at best. guy meets quirky girl in quirky country and they proceed to do offbeat things. how wacky.

    by lobanhaki

this looks like a perfectly charming movie. You just don't know what to think if you aren't presented with a pre-packaged action movie or franchise.

If they should bar wars let these star wars stay

    by mechakong

Bill Murray has had the most rewarding and sustained film career of ANYONE in the history of SNL. And I'm including the highly overrated Robert Downey Jr. I would gladly watch two minutes of Bill Murray arguing with a Japanese commerical for the rest of my life, than the entire tired, pointless Keanu of Nazareth Matrix cluster fuck trilogy.I'm truly starting to hate my addiction to this site.
For every good tidbit or hilariously bad review you have to endure simpletons like surf ninja in every goddamn talkback. Sure the May/December romance is an indy film staple that's been used and abused from HAROLD and MAUDE to GHOST WORLD. But who cares, it's Bill Fucking Murray.
That trailer had more heart wit and subtlety than any fiction film in three months. It's for ADULTS not fanboys. And yes you can be both but it's hard.
If you like your comedy stilted lifeless and jejune go over to coaxial and fawn over Smallville or jerk off to Buffy.

Which format would you like? Shit one or shit two? Premium users can view using our golden shit viewer. Fuck Real, fuck WMP, keep it on the QT!! Bill Murray is one of the funniest most talented performers on Earth. Don't make me turn this internet around.

Christian Zane, you are a dork.

    by nerd fight

Think about these facts. 1) These talkbacks are for people to share their thoughts about the various media and news that Knowles presents us with. 2) The most enthusiastic comment I could see about the movie, above your post, was `it looks great`. 3) The enthusiasm for Bill Murray is based on his previous work and not this trailer. 4) `YOU ARE FUCKING PATHETIC` is a much more sweeping judgment based on a couple of posts you read than a `this looks great` based on a trailer. 5) You are a dork. PS This looks great...Sofia Coppola + Bill Muray = something interesting

I find it very interesting that Sofia Coppola seems to be doing a better job nowadays than her old man.

    Scarlet

    by tswgsm

She's just an absolute princess. I love her work. She has a very unique look, style and voice that breathes new life into the stuff she's in. She was great in Ghost World, and Birch's character just couldn't have worked without the much more suble work Scarlet did. She was also wonderful with Billy Bob in their work together, just a total "it" quality to her. Seeing her with Bill Murray is quite exciting.

It's good to see Sophia is a better director than she was an actress...

Check out a little film called Heaven, dude. If that doesn't improve your opinion of Giovanni Ribisi, nothing will.

Bill Murray rules but needs to do Ghostbusters 3

    by mzauberman

I'm sorry, Bill Murray rules, but he NEEDS to do Ghostbusters 3. Not a sad, passing-the-torch-to-younger-busters Ghostbusters 3, but a full-on I'm-too-old-for-this-shit-but-I'm-kicking-ass-anyway Ghostbusters 3. One last ride for the boys in gray.

I agree, bring on Ghost Busters 3!

    by wee_paul

I thought it was a crap idea at first, till I heard about the plot. Satan evicting people from hell cause it was too full? Classic.

Only, the thought of a new generation of ghost busters gets me scared. Keep the old cast, old ghost busters, and that kick ass plot idea.

We all know that Murray's greatest performance...

    by mister pink

was as Carl the greenskeeper. We need Murray to reprise THAT character before he does another GHOSTBUSTERS and definitely before he does anything with anyone who's name ends in Coppola and isn't the director of the GODFATHER.

Harry is still the King of Hype

    by christianzane

I stand by my comments, I read about this place in a trade magazine and what I said was even mentioned, people here are movie fanatics, it's like asking a kid to go into a candy store and write reviews about candy. I've never seen the words BRILLIANT, GENIUS and GOD used so much to describe movie trailers. HAMLET was brilliant, BRAHMS, GHANDI, KAFKA, not fucking Johnny Depp in Pirates or Bill Murray in a Quicktime trailer. It's all hype, embellishment and hyperbole here, get used to it.

Holy shit. After seeing the Virgin Suicides, I wouldn't shit in Sophia Coppola's mouth if her teeth were on fire. That was the worst movie I have ever seen.

    by primitive

Nothing interesting happens. It's all very formal and nice and polite, like very expensively framed pictures from your college art class project that you got a B on. Murray looks bored. In terms of what the story appears to be, the entire thing could be taking place in Minneapolis. This is Bill Murray in Japan for chrissakes, where is the clash of the ultimate american wild man no holds barred, do anything, say anything psyche with the inbred homogeniety of japanese culture? That would've been interesting, but this just looks...blah. Maybe the cultural clash lurks beneath the surface, but...i didn't see it, not as entertainment anyway.

From now on, QUICKTIME trailers only !!

    by robomofo

Harry--don't waste our time with these friggin' links to trailers in this horrible Real Player or Windows Media format--from now on, be patient and wait a few days until they come out on the far superior Quicktime.

    Thank you.
