"Hey Stimpy!...Loooook at meeeeeee. My mouth is open and I'm going crazy..Seeeeeeee they drool coming from my mouth. Isn't dis funny? I'm going to stay in this position without moving for 2 minutes, cause it's funny. Now I'm going to fart, cause i'ts funny when I fart. Now my eyes are going to pop out for no reason, cause it's funny. See, Stimpy? Look at all the little boys watching us and laughing at me while I pick my nose. Yes, thats funny." Comedy

    Billy West is gone?

    by ripmancastle

Has that been formally confirmed because i saw some clips online and the voice of stimpy sounds pretty similar. Well it should be a fairly good show all the same, i can't help but notice that after revisiting old episodes that stimpy came off annoying in several episodes, not to mention in all the episodes sans the involvement of John K

From the sneak peeks on Monday

    by son bravo

TNN showed a preview show with clips from all the new shows. Gary the Rat actually looks to be kind of witty, Ren and Stimpy is funny but not as funny as the original (how many remakes have been better than an original anyway?) and Striperalla looks like it was thrown together for the money. It will probably play up the camp for all it's worth. A female talk show host starts hitting on Striperella, who is sitting in front of "The worlds largest vibrating banana." I have to admit I'll be anticipating the first two, Stripperella would be good if Pamela were playing herself, as a stripper, the show was on HBO and the only way it will get anything out of the ratings is if Kazaa is forced to cease and desist and then no one can get her Playboy stuff. Good luck to you all.

    R&S

    by mad_radhu

Sure the bulk of the show was gross-out humor, but there were some really twisted surreal bits thrown in there that just did awful things to my psyche (and I am glad it did). The bit about the rubber walrus protector (and the walrus whispering "Call the police..."), for one. The Happy Helmet and the Happy-Happy Joy-Joy song ("have mercy on the little creatures of the world, they don't know they are ugly..."). And of course the whole Space Madness episode, with the shiny candylike button. It was a great show. It just takes a certain type of bent mind to really appreciate the madness. The kind of mind that sorta understands what the hell Gary Busey is talking about on his show.

    by robert_g_durant

As long as Spike Lee is suing TNN for trying to make use of his "manly" image by renaming the network Spike TV, Warner Brothers should sue on behalf of their tough-guy dog "Spike", and Joss Whedon should sue for plagarizing his character "Spike" the vampire. Oh, and God should give Spike Lee cancer. Not something quick either. Like a real persistent skin cancer, that keeps going away and giving him false hopes, only to finally consume him as his loved ones slowly watch him lose his battle, wither and die. Just like Dad. Oh yeah... And George Lucas raped my shildhood, and Night of the Living Dead Special Edition was worse than Harry seeing his dead mother's burned corpse.

    R&S has not aged well

    by delete me

Started downloading some eps a year or two ago when peer to peer meant that digital Ren and Stimpy would be restored to me again. Alas, it was not nearly as hilarious as I'd remembered... a lot of lame, stale gags I kind of associated with kid cartoons, topped off with occasional gross-out humor, the Ren/Stimpy gay subtext, and (the redeeming feature) the wonderful surreality that cropped up from time to time. It looks like the new cartoon will play up the gross-out and the gay. Eh. CN's Adult Swim/Williams Street has the best cartoons on television right now.

The first few seasons of R&S are amazing chaos that revolutionized what animators could do when set loose. But I fear what John K's up to now. The Goddamn George Liquor Show was...awful. A dog humping Jimmy's leg, with tiny feet being birthed out of his ankle pimples?

Saw Kelsey Grammar on a few shows talking about it, and the animation looked bad. Did they do the whole thing in Flash? The show could be funny as hell, but there's no way I'm gonna sit down and watch animation that bad for 30 minutes. Makes me worry about Kevin Smith's dumbass idea to do the Clerk cartoon movie in Flash even more. SciFi just reran the Farscape epsiode with the animated segments and it was a pretty big disappointment(had't seen that ep before). Cheap animation sucks.

I'm a fan of Spike Lee's movies, so I'm not hating on the man per se, but his complaint about Spike being a copyright of his is moronic to me. There are millions of other characters, people, and things in the world with the Spike name, and it's a little self centered of him to think otherwise. This new R&S has been getting decent reviews if you've been checking them out, so I'm gonna give ol' John K. another chance. He said in some of the promos that they could go an even more adult route now that they're no longer on Nickelodeon, so lord only knows what that means.

If anyone saw the episode of Stern where John K confronted Billy West for sticking with Nickelodeon, it seems unlikley he'd be on the new R&S. John K called him a turncoat company suck up which is understanadble, though they would have just brought in a new pair of voice actors if he left.Billy dissapeared off the Stern Show shortly after that, so maybe he does have some "personality conflicts". It's a shame because he's one of the top voice men working, with his ample genius all over Futurama.

The fact that this bullshit lawsuit against TNN has gone as far as it has just makes me sick. That's great some asshole can sue a television station for sharing his nickname and get away with it. I'm sorry, but anyone that got Spike TV confused with Spike Lee is a complete retard. I bet anything if the ruling gets reversed, Lee will cry racism. But anyway, I for one can't wait for the new Ren and Stimpy episodes, even though it's messed up how John K is back and Billy West isn't. The main reason why I stopped watching it in the first place was because John K left.

What John K's been doing... In the Great White North

    by weedymcsmokey

I believe he's been doing a show called Ripping Friends - about 4 super-pumped, super-stoopid Superheroes who all love to beat the shit out of everyone and everything, yet live with their mother. It's damn funny - check out the episode where one character's shorts get hurtled through outer space and gain evil inteliigence to the point where if they ride up anyone's ass the shorts will take over their mind. The shorts sound like Jimmy Cagney. 'Yeah, see - I'll take over the world! Yeah." Also, like the Tick, a solid supporting cast of other superheroes populates their universe - Manman is good, as is Pooperman and a few others. I think John K is not lowbrow at all, his satire is just cleverly masked, but it never is valued above the comedy - knowhatImean?

    Spike Lee's New Lawsuit

    by bobby bowfinger

Just heard that Spike Lee is filing a new lawsuit after which volleyball players will no longer be allowed to "spike" the ball in future & partygoers will no longer be allowed to "spike" non-alcoholic drinks.

An earlier post stated that calling it "Harley TV" or "Levis TV" would have generated legal action as well which is true. However, the terms Levis & Harley are much more closely associated with jeans & motorcycles respectively than the term Spike is with Spike Lee. I (and I'm sure many other people) didn't make the connection until Lee's suit became news.

If TNN/Viacom specifically cited "Spike Lee" as the "brand image" they wanted "Spike TV" associated with in a press release announcing the name change that was an error on their part, but it doesn't mean that he has sole claim to the use of the name. Lee would have a stronger case if they had been using his full name or image in their promos, but it was only "Spike TV".

    Don't Blame Billy

    by vinylsaurus

He brought Stimpy to life but I don't think he owed anyone anything to the extent that he should have walked off the show in sympathy for Jon K. Nickelodeon is soley to blame for the firing and the fucking-up of the show. Oddly enough, they didn't have a problem with the grossout stuff but rather the psychotic relationship of R & S ("why can't Ren be *nice* to Stimpy?"). Reminds me of the cleaned-up Itchy & Scratchy episodes -- "Here Itchy, have some lemonade!"

Nick execs are a bunch of jerks & idiots. They even stopped production on Spongebob Squarepants 'cuz they figured they could make more money with reruns + advertising + merchandise. Bastard people!

The new Ren & Stimpy sucked. The fun spirit of the original run is lost, and now is nothing but crude jokes. I don't remember there ever being a pitcher/catcher dynamic between them, either. Gary the Rat was okay. Made me giggle once or twice. Hearing him say "Shit" took me by surprise. Stripperella... took me by surprise. I was amused from beginning to end, and there were a few moments where I laughed out loud. And now, they're showing classic R&S episodes, starting with "Space Madness"!!! John K raped my childhood.

    by xthecrovvx

Yeah, now's the right time for it. the new Ren and Stimpy is blasphemy to everything that made the originals great......none of the jokes worked, there was NO story, just 200 grossouts per minute, and although i was cool with it when I found out Billy West wasnt coming back, the new guy voicing Stimpy blows. Thats not to say there werent grossouts in the original...there were lots of them.....but for every grossout, there were 2 straightforward insane jokes that were great....and I saw nothing in this new one that even approached the greatness of "....caaaalll the poliiiiice...." But, lets not forget, TNN also has rights to the originals, and will be showing reruns of it fairly regularly....thats something to lookm forward to.

The new voices aren't THAT bad

    by ben-jammin

I doubt that John K. could afford to pay Billy West now, even if they wanted him. He's been doing the voices of the new Warner Brother cartoons for the past few years. He's the voice of Bugs Bunny for crying out loud! There's no way they could compete with that. The new voices aren't that bad anyways.

The new cartoon was definitely heavy on the gross-out factor, and all the homosexual innuendo was also dissapointing, but it's good to have John K. back in control of the cartoon. Give it some time and hopefully it'll get better. Plus, they're reshowing the old episodes as "Ren and Stimpy Classics", so that's a good thing.

    the "new":Ren & Stimpy - Urgh!!

    by hastythought

I happened across the new Ren & Stimpy about halfway through by accident and thought "Geezuz, what is this, some sort of PARODY?" (The Simpsons did a rather good one)
After watching Stimpy swallow a big ball of snot I was tempted to change the channel, but when the guy was getting ready to vomit into the spitoon (why were they in a spitoon anyway?) I just lay there sayiong "No, No, No" with the covers pulled up over my head until my husband finally changed the channel.
Not funny, in the poorest of taste (and yes, I did watch the old ones) and just plain DIZGusting!!!
I'm rather happy to see this was a new offering, and not a "lost" episode" so I can just forget it ever existed. I hope John K had nothing to do with this, but if he did he should hang his head in shame.

Last night's "REN AND STIMPY" was a disgrace to the original car

    by screenplaywriter

Ug! I had so many high expectations of this being as good and as funny as the original and then they made them gay.

Ren and Stimpy weren't gay! They had girlfriends, they were funny, gross, and straight. I mean TNN turned them into Nathan Lane and his Mexican partner, or Will and Grace: Animated.

It was sick as hell! "GARY THE RAT" was decent and so was "Stripperella", but I bet by the next couple of weeks they'll be gone within a flash and Kelsey Grammer will make a spin-off show of "Sideshow Bob" just to remain a superstar.

    I don't know Spike Lee, SexyBeast, but . . .

    by piss&moan

it isn't fair to think he might feel hatred toward White people just because he has frequently told his stories from an African-American perspective, using a predominantly Black cast. Should I draw a similar conclusion about Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, John Hughes, and Woody Allen, claiming that they habor a secret hatred toward Black people? If you collected all the Black actors who have performed in their films, you'd have trouble organizing a decent poker game, let alone casting a movie. I'm a Black man, and I don't consider them racists. Spike Lee (more so earlier in his career, than now)is just trying to present a perspective that isn't represented
very well in Hollywood (unless you count the drek being pumped out by rap stars and their producers). He has sometimes cast certain White characters in a bad light (as in Mo'Better Blues and Do the Right Thing) in an attempt to make a point and raise valid issues, but I don't believe his intent was to smear the entire White Race. If he is a racist, base that opinion on his words and actions, which would be fair, not because he sometimes reminds us of the uncomfortable reality of true racism certain people would rather not face.

The new "Ren and Stimpy" was funny and nauseating at the same time, which means that Kricfalusi and co. did a great job on it!

Kelsey Grammar's "Gary the Rat" has awful, internet-style animation, and the concept isn't very good. Laughed a couple of times.

"Stripperella" is the absolute bottom of the bunch. Too many musical interludes, cliched jokes, and unremarkable voice talent.

Wonderful. I go into the hospital heaving like that frog in the Simpsons spoof of Harry Potter, being kept alive solely by the facts that A: my girlfriend was in town, and B: that Ren & Stimpy would be back on the air. Well, wouldn't you know, my girlfriend has to leave town yesterday, which is bad, but I leave the hospital, which is good. While waiting for the car, I run into my best friend, coming from her job orientation there. That's also good. I go home and wait patiently for Ren & Stimpy. It comes on. That's bad. Can anyone explain to me what the fuck that was last night? I honestly haven't been able to classify it yet. It's not crap, becase crap usually is laughable in its horribleness. This...this was just...I should have died in the hospital. I just...God, damn that was so not worth it. CURSE YOU, JOHN K! AND CURSE YOU, NEW YORK PRESBYTERIAN HOSPITAL, FOR KEEPING ME ALIVE!

Ren and Stimpy were always gay...

    by wungolioth

...but I must admit that less is more in this case. The innuendo in the original was 10x more funny than "Who's the pitcher?! Who's the catcher?!". I'm hoping this is just Jon K blowing off some steam from all the constraints he was under on Nick. I'm not so much offended at the grossout humor, just wondering when it's going to get funny. Putting it up against "Space Madness" was a big mistake. It's one of my favorites, and it's easy to see how awful the new version is in comparison. There was something said on the Howard Stern show just the other day, and I think it applies here. A fan called in to plead with Howard to not move over to XM satellite radio when his contract is up because after all of these years of listening to the restrained version, he thinks he and many fans couldn't really deal with a Howard Stern that could say whatever he wanted whenever he wanted, and Howard actually agreed with him. I think Ren and Stimpy were funny BECAUSE they were forced to find ways of being funny without going over the top. Just my 2 cents...

    by defythis

You guys claiming you couldn't sit through two minutes of it because of the premise missed the best out of the three toons (not counting classic R&S) on the night. Holy shit, it was actually funny, Pam wasn't annoying, and the animation wasn't all that bad. The writers were smart enough not to take themselves too seriously, and it paid off. The guy with the leaf blower was great - perfect cliche killer. It's got the Buffy quipping down, and enough animated ass shots and sex jokes to keep it "for men" (tongue scanner); who knows maybe it'll stick around. New Ren & Stimpy - couldn't watch much of it. Flipped back and forth. The voices just bothered me. They're not that bad, but it's obvious it's not the same. Gary the Rat's no Sideshow Bob. He's not even Sideshow Luke Perry.

"Gary the Rat" - Done in Flash?

    by priz

The scenes with the guy who's trying to kill him, the zooming and the movement and such were all way too similar to most Flash animation I've seen on the net it made me wonder if they did the show on the cheap in Flash and then just used Firewire to dump to DVD or something. I was half expecting to see a big thanks/credit to Macromedia at the end. The only slightly amusing part was watching the delivery guy eat the cheese twice, but the rest of it... urgh. Poor Kelsey, he must be really hard up for cash for taking such a crappy job. I think I saw a promo last night bragging not about how great the show was, but how the other voice actors think it is to work with Kelsey.

I will say that I am also happy about the black bar thing (It was really annoying the one day they were testing the new logo during Highlander/7 Days and they kept shrinking and unshrinking the picture testing the new logos every few seconds (and half the time they'd unshrink, the picture would go out for a few seconds as well). You'd think they'd test this offline. It's stupid to squash a show like that just to tell people what's playing. (I'm sure almost all DirecTV/new Cable boxes have built-in guides) I think the dub of Takeshi's Castle is also amusing, but I know a lot of people hate it.

There is one show that was on TV and has been brought back in Flash that I thought was on par and in some cases(episodes) better than the original. It's "The Critic", the show that went from ABC -> Fox -> Comedy Central. Shockwave/AtomFilms for some reason picked it up and had them do 10 episodes. It's fun.

Have any of you ever considered...

    by capnfancypants

While I'll be the first to recognize that the notion of taking all the perverse sexual innuendo situated around the 70 year old concept of how "queer" it is that same sex cartoon characters might sleep in the same bed (Hi ho yogi and boo boo... loved what the freaks on Williams Street did with that with their Harvey Bridman and Boo boo episode), have any of you ever considered that John K was just fucking with us with Ren and Stimpy acting gay?

Ren's a dog -- dog's hump anything and anyone regardless of sex or sexual orientation. How many of you haven't had a chihuahua (sp.) dry hump what ever part of your body was in striking distance (the real question is how many of you enjoyed it *rooowwwwll*). Anyway -- K. is just upping the ante and the discourse of a tired old comedic convention -- they're not necessarily gay; they're anymals -- male animals that get off whenever they feel like getting off... stimpy just happens to be dumb enough to misconstrue Ren's occasional biological imparatives as love (remember when he wanted a kiss and Ren gave him the asshole *laughs* admit it -- that was disturbingly funny).

I'll admit it -- this was a different Ren and Stimpy than year 1 -- and I don't know if I am used to it yet... but, I'm gonna give K a chance because the fucker's brilliant (Rippin friends aside). Gary and Stan's rejuvinated libido... I dunno. But why the hell not -- you know someone's gonna slip some asswhup on Spike Lee into some of those episodes. I mean c'mon -- half the new TNN's lineup is wrestling and Miami Vice!!!

    by alexalex

Man, didn't you guys ever see more than ONE of the original Spumco Ren and Stimpy episodes? No two of them ever had a constant continuity or plotline. One episode they're George Liquor's pets, the next they live together in a house, the next they're mounties, the next they're on the road. Sometimes big, sometimes tiny. I'm sure that these episodes will be no different, and I absolutely fucking love some of the stuff that Spumco is doing. There's no cartoon studio in the world that can touch some of the absolutely insane shit that comes out of John K's mind, and god bless him.

    Spike Lee & TN

    by desyb

I just wanted to say my piece regarding the Spike Lee situation and TNN. I think the jury is still out as to the validity of Spike's claim. I believe that Lee has been unfairly given the "angry black man" moniker and just about anything he does is scrutinized. If this was the converse and Spike wanted to use the title "Spike tv" or some kind of derivative, I GUARANTEE that TNN would be suing his ass quick fast! I have seen on a number of occasions, the news media ask spike REALLY asinine questions just to elicit an emotional response and yet he is expected not to "question" the question. Two instances come to mind...I remember a MTV correspondent asking him upon the opening of his Spike's Joint store does he intend to give his money back to the community....what kind of fabrinackle bullsh*t is that? I have never heard a white person (let alone a noted filmmaker) asked that question. On another occasion at the opening of The Summer of Sam, he was asked what it was like to work with white actors....I mean c'mon folks...take it from one who knows...if you fulfill stereotypes like many of the rap stars who are "angry" no one says anything but if you add education and talent minus the gunplay..then many whites will call you "angry." Give me a fu*kin break!!!

...Spike Lee doesn't HAVE to sue TNN/Spike TV. If the new shows are any indication, this spot on your cable dial will soon be replaced with yet another home shopping channel within 3 months. Let's see, you want a network that caters to the hyper-macho "Man Show" audience, so you hire the original creator of Ren & Stimpy to do an ALL-GAY version of the classic characters??? by hyde01

I agree 100% with what he said. Also, I was looking forward to the new "Ren & Stimpy." You can't imagine how much, especially with John Kricfalusi in charge again. After all, he was the creative genius behind the original. He was the guy who chided Nickelodeon for adding a whistled "Hall of the Mountain King" to a scene where Ren and Stimpy are forced to bathe with an old man, turning the old guy from a pleasant weirdo into Peter Lorre's child-murdering character from "M." "And they accused me of putting bad stuff in the cartoons," he said (I paraphrase). But after seeing the actual result? BLEAH. The gay jokes only bother me in that they WERE NOT FUNNY. The only thing remotely resembling humor about the new "Ren and Stimpy" was the premise- they move from a bum's mouth to a spittoon. Hopefully they'll get better. Where's the manic edge, the sense of fun? Go ahead with the gross out stuff, just make sure it's actually humorous. I also have to say this- "Most Extreme Elimination Challenge" is gut-rippingly hilarious. It gets a bit tiresome after a while, like sensory overload or something. But until that point, it has me gasping for breath from laughing so hard. In short, "Ren and Stimpy"=disappointing letdown, "MXC"=insanely hilarious. DON'T GET ELIMINATED!

There are better "offensive" cartoons being made these days. And there are better flash animation cartoons being made. The cartoons on the God Hates Cartoons DVD include works based on Mark Newgarden, Sam Henderson, Tony Millionaire, Kaz, and Jim Woodring among others. Some of the shorts suck and go on too long but most are short gags and are on target. Maakies, Underworld, and even Diaper Dyke and Captain Boyfuck were better than that first episode of the New R&S. http://www.brightredrocket.com/godhates/

    Right.
Because of course so many of you fine Talkbackers have met him and conversed with him....Sure.
But in reality all you have to go on is the same as us guys; movies. And man, people have gone over those with combs of such fine teeth -- where is the evidence of this racism? Inside your head, man. You IMAGINED it. Cuz it ain't there. Not in Jungle Fever, Malcolm X, Mo Better Blues, Summer of Sam. Dig it, Do the Right Thing was a film about tolerance more than any other thing.....
But sure, watch Bamboozled, please, TRY damn it!
Cuz then maybe you might see, MAYBE, that you have all been raised to watch black men and women CLOWN for you in The Fresh Prince, and Beverly Hills Cop and Stir Crazy.
Spike Lee doesn't let you laugh AT black people.
That's why you all hate him and call him racist, man.
