NEW LINE to spill the SEED OF CHUCKY across a screen near you'

Published at:  Jun 23, 2003 10:31:58 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... Back a few months ago we reported about how Universal just felt Chucky was dead. According to MovieHole.Net - they claim that New Line Cinemas is looking at acquiring the rights to CHUCKY and jerk that franchise into shape and get the SEED OF CHUCKY before our eyes where it belongs!

Frankly, this makes big gobs of sense. Why? Well New Line has Freddy, Jason and Leatherface now in their stable of psychopaths... Throwing Chucky in there makes lots of sense. NOW... NOW... All New Line has to do to be really cool is to acquire the rights to the PHANTASM series, get Don Coscarelli and Roger Avary and the Phantasm crew together to make PHANTASM'S END and I'll be the happiest boy in the world.

The fate of these decisons will most likely rely upon the performance of FREDDY VS JASON, which I think may very well be a good thing. Audiences have seemed to enjoy the trailer quite a bit, and the test screenings have gone bonkers happy with the film.

    by jefferylebowski

Anybody remember that there was actually really good buzz around the last Chucky movie? Like it was going to be really cool in a post-irony, tongue in cheek way? And then it turned out awful anyway. And then five years later HULK opened and it was god-awful.

Superior animatronic effects, great Graeme Revell score, and loads of scares *and* laughs. The third was a weak retread, and Bride Of Chucky was atrocious. "Don't FUCK with the CHUCK!"

    Stop New Line Cinema

    by mr. profit

They will make a 3 way death match movie with Freddy, Jason, and Chucky if they buy the rights. I really hate how New Line is incapable of making a good "Friday The 13th" movie. All they have to do is restart the goddamned thing with a new killer, take it back to basics, and you have money in the bank. But no we have Jason doing Lord Zed from the Power Rangers impressions in outer space.

  • Come on, these Freddy, Jason, Chucky and whatnot franchises usually stopped being scary after the first one and just went for imaginative kills, drunk frat boy humour and iconisation of their respective "stars". I for one, actually like these evolutions for their entertainment value. I'd much rather watch something like "The Dream Master" in which the villain is a total buffoon than "Exorcist II" which tries to be serious and fails miserably (see also the "I know..." movies). You want decent horror? Watch the first Exorcist, most Hammer-films, the first Omen, the first Nightmare movie, the first Halloween. You wanna get drunk/high and have some fun with friends, rent any of the 80s icon sequels Harry mentions in his article and root for Freddy/Jason/Chucky/Pinhead etc. ... Of course, I'm no horror buff by any means, as I've only seen Nightmare 1-4 and New Nightmare, Jason X, Chucky 1-3, Hellraiser, TCM 4 (crap, though Renee Zellweger with glasses was hot), Exorcist 1-2 (fell asleep during 3), Omen 1-2 (also, fell asleep during 3), the Evil Dead trilogy, the Peter Jacksons, Halloween, Scream 1-2 and ironically every sequel to Psycho without the original (why? no idea, but I never paid for 'em). I know that the fact I've never seen Psycho diminishes my credibility or sends it deeper to Hell than Jason's ever been, but I stand by my theory is that this little 80s and 70s (TCM) horror revival going on is to be STUPID YET FUN CRAP (kind of like The Scorpion King). Whoops, there went the last ounce of my credibility. But hey, fuck you, you're geeks too; what the hell are you doing on this site then anyway? Peace Out.

P.S. They should do a new Nightmare on Elm Street movie with Hulk Hogan as Freddy Krueger: "Welcome to prime time, BROTHER!" (sorry always wanted to do a Hulk Hogan joke)

to the guy that said X2 super sucked

    by lonecow

What are you talking about? Okay, this guy alone proves how insaine people are on this website. Some of you have lost your friggin' minds. Hulk, well, I didn't like it, but I was never a big Hulk fan. The action was pretty good sometimes. And I can see where the uneducated wouldn't like or understand Matrix (some beefhead at Chilies the other day said, "Don't see Matrix, it sucked, too much thinking." his exact words I shit you not). But X2 was just an all around great summer movie. So much negitivity. Why do I keep comming back to this site? WHY?

And Chucky is a friggin' Doll. Who gives a crap.

    And Harry likes Armageddon. Why?

It is so horrible. All those ECU, and one liners that are suposed to be moving, but are so incredably cheesy.

And.. I'm done ranting... sorry... for being a jerkwad loser that will get myself banned, and I hope I don't get deleted, cause then I will complain about being deleted, and then I'll be banned again for complaining about being deleted.

Power to the people. Oh yeah and Spike Lee is suing Spike TV for stealing his name? What is up with that? What a jerk, Spike isn't even his real name, how can he do that? What is wrong with the world?

And why hasn't my copy of Harry Potter come in yet.

    Jason X was terrible.

    by mr. profit

Growing up on Jason films you respect them and how absurd the plot may be. But let's face it, the "Friday the 13th" series lost steam after Part 7 (Which had a ridiculous plot but was the last good Friday The 13th movie.) Parts 8 and 9 were wastes of time and Jason X was pretty bad. I think with sequels writers get a little too creative instead of keeping things simple. Stop explaining so much. Halloween 1 was scary because Michael was crazy, then we find out JLC was his sis, then she died, then she had a daughter, then we ignore the daughter to see Josh Hartnett. I'm all for fun horror flicks but come on, these writers are getting retarded.

    Horror Films are Now Awful

    by danielkurland

Without a single doubt in my mind horror films are nowhere near as good as they were in the 60's and 70's and I doubt they ever will be again. No ideas anymore are original, it's just the same bunch of teenagers getting lost, lots of blood, maybe we see a nipple, and that's the movie. Sequels and this garbage do well basicalyl because people who have seen the first ones may feel tied to see how the characters turn out********** Halloween franchise went down after 4? Halloween 3 had absolutely nothing to do with Mike Myers, it was a stand alone that just slapped on the "Halloween" title because if it was just called "Season of the Witch" it probably would have done much worse. The Halloween franchise pisses me off because the are inconsistent. In some of the films they say the white face of Mike Myers is a mask (which it is) while in one of them it says that that is how he actually looks. And with H20 and Resurection, it is just a joke.****** I did enjoy the Omen series and I thought that they were well done. I basically liked the idea of Satan's kid and we actually see him mature. First as a little boy, then odler and then an adult! It was great. Now Omen 4 wasn't as good by any means and it was obviously just done as a way to extend the series, the first three though are good stuff. I just don't think that horror films nowadays will ever redeem themselves, which is unfortunate (although 28 Days Later looks promising).

    by psyclops

How can anyone hate a movie like that? I have to agree with those of you who think that modern horror movies have lost their edge but the way I see it, there are two kinds of fright flicks: The ones that get under your skin and linger in your memory long after you've seen them (The Exorcist, The Omen, Candyman, Night of the Living Dead) and the ones that are campy, gory and just plain fun (Creepshow, Demon Knight, Jason X, Bride of Chucky). I can love them both.

    28 days later

    by spaceman_spiff

For those who think that the modern horror movies have run out of juice, have you seen "28 Days Later..." yet? Its far from a perfect film (it falls apart in the last act), but it shows the possibilities. The fact that its even a bit hopeful and humanizing at points is also a GOOD THING.

As fun as things like Chucky might be, hard-core stuff which is a bit deeper and less "wacky" is possible.

re: horror films are awful now

    by dukedemondo

i'm afraid this idea is being passed around a lot now. "horror films aint what they used to be blah blah blah" Well, what about The Blair Witch Project (innovative, frightening "oh, but where was the fucking witch!!????"), Ring (Hideo Nakata, not the remake, although it was suprisingly watchable), The Eye, The Sixth Sense, 28 Days Later, Scream (original, fresh and scary, although battered by familiarity now, much like Come On Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners) Fight Club, and thousands more im gonna kick myself for not mentioning. These films are invigorating, fresh, and in most cases, bloody scary. The people who moan about there being no "carnival of souls" or "hills have eyes" nowadays just, in most cases, cant be bothered to look further than the multiplex to find them. the 90's alone has given us ghostwatch, candyman, fight club, scream, ring, blah blah blah. End of rant

    TCM

    by darth arrakis

Sucked. I don't give a shit how many fan-boys drool over it, I still say it sucked. everyone says "Oh it's great it had a really low budget!" Oh so what? I'm supposed to treat it like it came in third place in the special olympics? "Good job, buddy! Good try!" Bragging about how small a film's budget was only works if the outcome was ACTUALLY GOOD. TCM does, and always will, suck my big fat balls.
Chucky? Please. Don't get me started on that stupid piece of shit. It's a fucking doll. A FUCKING DOLL. Deal with it you bunch of useless sonsabitches. Kick it across the room, drop it out the window, hit it with your car, whatever. You can fit it in a fucking shopping bag, and it'll asphyxiate. The only one that was half way decent was Bride of Chucky because it DIDN"T TAKE ITSELF FUCKING SERIOUSLY. It did what the entire series shoul dhave done from te begining: made fun of how truly ludicrus it is.
The only good Nightmare on Elm st. movies were the first one and New Nightmare. NewNightmare only gets credit for not being EXACTLY the same as the others.
Despite what many might tell you, there are NO good Friday the 13th movies. Not even the first one. It's only fun to see Kevin Bacon get an arrow stuck through his throat. After the first one, it just got worse and worse.
The only good Halloween movie is the first one, but it's great. My favorite of the slasher films. It's the most well done AND the most innovative (it's the one that started the whole Friday the 13th-type trend).

But hey it has Adult Ren and Stimpy. lol. I am not saying it will be a great network (unless they pick up Invader ZIM) but still the fact that Spike Lee sued over something that has nothing to do with him is just ridiculous. Some people have huge ego's.

and who sent me an e-mail saying that Hulk was a good movie?

I have my reservations about Hulk. There were way too many screaming kids in my theater to enjoy the experience fully. And I saw a midnight showing. They cried during all the dramatic parts, and maybe that spoiled it for me, but I think those parts were trying to take themselves way too seriously. And the end was silly. You know the part where Banner goes to Washington and see's a statue of the Hulk dressed up as Abe Lincoln. I mean, where did that come from?

    TCM 2

    by icmr

I first saw TCM 2 in 1994 when I was 15. I had rented it from Blockbuster and brought it over to my friend's house. I had never seen the first one-until recently-though it was easy to catch on with that cool introduction. When I told my friends the title of the movie that I borrowed, they were like, "What kind of fucked up movie is this?", as they had never seen the films before and had barely heard of them, but as soon as the movie started-with all five of us in my friend's room occasionally poring over his dad's porn magazines-we were all transfixed. That early car chase scene was harrowing and a good intro to the movie. The characters are what draw me to this series, especially with the second one. This family of cannibals-Leatherface, Drayton Sawyer, Chop-Top, Grandpa-what an interesting mix! This was also the first time I had seen Dennis Hopper in another film besides "Speed" which had just came out that summer. His character was pretty hilarious as the private investigator looking for the killers of the group of kids in TCM. I liked how they created Chop-Top's character, the older brother of Leatherface who was absent during the first movie because he was in Vietnam. James Siedow was amazing and heart-warming as the cackling, chili recipe award-winning father. Grandpa was a good visual because he represented immortality which the movie hints at with the eating of human flesh. Was the Great Grandma actually alive at the end sequence? Whatever happened to the hitchhiker from the first one-was he that corpse that Chop-Top was carrying around? This movie turned me on to the franchise, though I haven't seen the third and fourth ones yet, and we could be in for a treat with the remake of the first one with Tobe Hooper collaborating.

And as for Friday films they aren't cinematic gems, Parts 1 through 4 good. 5 Bad. 6 and 7 good. The rest direct to video crap. Oh and on to the TCM remake. I still can't get over Jessica Beil. "Hey Leatherface, I know you want my precious skin for your mask, because I use PureZone Deep Clean Clear Foam Cleanser, but please let me live" New Line Cinema is evil. Freddy vs Jason will ruin Freddy Kreuger.
