HELLBOY stuff just keeps coming... sheesh...
Hey folks, Harry here... there really does seem to just be a ton of HELLBOY stuff filling my e-mail box, and frankly... I couldn't be more pleased. The following picture is apparently in the new TIME magazine - How cool is that? Hellboy, Abe and Liz in TIME magazine. Somewhere, Mike Mignola is dancing a lil jig. You know it, he's got a beady lil smile and cheering. Still waiting to read Nick's final few HELLBOY pieces over at CHUD --- to kill your time, bop over to Superherohype.com for their reports! For now though... dig this cool flame!

this site has become an infomercial for HELLBOY... sheesh...

Looks good, but who's the hot chick? I don't remember her from reading Hellboy although I've probably only read 2/3 of his books. I wonder if they added her for the film or if she is in the comics? She looks yummy though.

BTW, i saw 28 DAYS on the strength of the recommendations here
by jackburtonlives
and it was horrifically bad. after a worldwide plague breaks out and the survival of mankind is in question a group of soldiers, one the last groups of survivors of humanity, make a radio broadcast... so they can get chicks to rape???? say what??? i know a lot of soldiers are rednecks... but are they really THAT brutalized? even when the infected break into one of the last bastions of humanity and overrun it, the last surviving soldier is only obsessed with taking the black heroine to a "f**shack" to rape her.... well i guess we do deserve to all die horrible deaths. what a great film. didn't anyone else find the plot a bit hard to buy? or was the film based on typical operation iraqi freedom troops?

looks great , 2 Fast 2 Furious was still a pile of shit.

is Del Toro sending them directly to harry while harry pretends to be getting "scoops"? that must also be part of the game, then right? so in fact the "spy site" is in fact just an infomercial... sad. i guess it pays the electricity and nacho bills though.

Not really a comic reader, but the stills from this pic look pretty cool...where should I start reading Hellboy? I'm not gonna go out and buy 27 different books, but are there some cool issues you guys could recommend???
Wow, a posting with no anger or smart ass comments.....hmmmm... -
I really don't know why some people bitch about what gets precedence on this site. If you can post on AICN, you obviously have access to a computer. If you have access to a computer, you probably have the time and wont to visit more than one site. If you think this site isn't objective enough, go to another one. It's really that simple. AICN doesn't monopolize the "film preview" world, and this site isn't being forced on you. You're willingly entering. What Harry constructs with his broadband is his business. What you do with your free time is yours. How big of a deal is this, really? Are you all incapable of deciding for yourselves what movies look good? Leave the guy alone.
-
good lord this movie looks like its gonna kick so much ass. I can't wait to see it.
-
Looks okay, not really that exciting. Then again, I've been made familiar with all of these characters since pictures started cropping up online a month or so ago. It'll probably catch the eye of those who don't know what's going on, and it's cool that TIME is hyping the flick. This is one that needs to find an audience. I do like the touch of Hellboy's turned back, but the poster seems more or less generic(if you take away the inherent novelty of the characters, that is).

I'm stumped. Has everyone else already bought into the Harry Hype Machine?

This movie really looks like it is going to be the truth. In the same way I highly anticipate The Hulk, primarily off of the strength of director Ang Lee, I can't wait to see Hellboy because I have the utmost faith in Guillermo del Toro. I know these two will handle the source material with respect and imagination, similar to such directors as Peter Jackson and Bryan Singer. I can't wait.

I heard talk about a 'HEROES' one sheet that they'd give away at the ComicCon in SD, so I'm assuming this is it. My bad if I confused anyone (and humiliated myself) with my last post
-
I hardly ever post, but I've been reading this site for about 6 years, and i must say it is a shame to have to dust off the guns for a flame ... But what the heck. The heart of this site is not a bunch of isolated fetishists who are just dying to lash out at those who they feel they can one-up (anonymously). This site is about what Harry does: hyping movies he likes or hopes to like, and flaming those he has evidence to dislike. Harry himself says he hypes movies. You want "balanced jouranalism?" Go read the Christian Science Monitor. They should have a review of X2 by now. Half of you are just leeches, plugging your own sites, anyway. The personal attacks, while I guess they are inevitable, are a WASTE OF OUR TIME, BANDWIDTH AND SERVER SPACE. Stick to what you LOVE, not who you "hate" and enjoy the show.

if it isn't HELLBOY, it's some other piece of crap like Episode III. you haven't mentioned Dreamworks' "Bloom County"/"Outland" film ONCE, damnit! Otomo Katsuhiro's "steam boy" gets relegated to brief mentions in the anime posts.
at least we still have CHUD.com Pity that Corona is dead. -
a JOHNNY THE HOMICIDAL MANIAC HBO series would give meaning to my life (in claymation/foamation?!?)

Regarding the talkbackers who seem ignorant of Hellboy...Saying this movie looks dumb, "Z" movie etc...Having actually read the Hellboy graphic novels, if this flick captures one tenth of the cool factor contained in the books, it will be terrific...Hellboy is considered a work of genius in comic book circles, generating huge praise among fellow writers and artists...even being compared with Jack Kirby's work....nuff said
-
Coolness is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. Your post made me laugh though (not at you, mind you). Something about that line "am I the only one who realizes how fucking stupid this movie looks?" echoes Mugatu's rant at the end of Zoolander. You're preaching to the deaf, I suppose.
-
Words can't even describe the lack of a conundrum in this case. The only factor that complicates things is that of the relationship these AICN-haters have with talkbacks and Harry. I'm sure some of them live for this, or at least can't imagine living without it.
-
that shit looks insane...
-
That's Liz something-or-other. She's a fellow BPRD operative with pyrokinesis (which she has yet to fully master), and apparently she's Hellboy's love interest in the film. If you've read 2/3s of the Hellboy comics you should have come across her at some point - she's in most of them, as well as the BPRD mini-series Mignola did last year (I think - I only read the first issue). My only disappointment with Hellboy so far is that big red himself is a little too bright and untextured-looking. Hopefully they'll fix it in post.
-
Is it just me or doesn't Hellboy look like should be serving drinks on Cheers...
-
I know NOTHING about Hellboy, and I find myself getting offended by people writing this film off by its look in stills and promo shots. I personally find this info to be rather refreshing, as it appears to be somewhat different from what we have been shovel-fed the past 5 years.
Dont get me wrong, I like the Matrix and sequel, but how much of that style as a culture can we take?! This, whether it proves to be shite or cult classic should be indeed a good night at the movies. I can't wait. -
After the crushing blow that was MATRIX RELOADED (shut the fuck up!!!) and the fact that the Holy Trilogy ends this December (shut the fuck up!!!) I finally have a movie to look forward to for next year.

I need my Chris Sarandon fix NOW!!

JTHM will kick so much ass!!
i'd rather see it in traditional animation (or pixar rendering type animation) whilst keeping it's vasquez/burton-esque look.

It's surprising that AICN has no mention of the Aliens vs Predat
by andy travis
It's being directed by Paul W Anderson, and sounds like a stinker. Info is up at darkhorizons.com...

Get yourself the TPB " The Chained Coffin and Others ". It's probably the best intro to the series. Since it's a collection of short stories you can digest it at your own pace. Enjoy.
-
Start with the first, and work your way through. You don't need to scour back stock for single issues.

I think the movie looks good, but this "all Hellboy all the time" vibe is not helping the film.
-
I've never read a single issue of Hellboy (I was never that big of a Mignola fan...can't say why...its just something you feel y'know?), but I have to say, I'm extremely interested in the movie. Del Toro has such a dark view and all these set pictures look AWESOME. I'm totally willing to go buy back issues...but let me pose a question...Since i haven't read any of the comic books, would I benefit seeing this movie as a Hellboy virgin and then read the comics? or vice versa?...now, if only they made a movie like this about homestarrunner.com that would ROCK!! A Del Toro Strong Bad!! heh heh heh

In a just world, Del Toro would be working the 2nd shift at your local Taco Bell. How this talentless hack ever gets work is beyond me.

As i said on a previous talkback - there can never be enough Hellboy on this site.Bollocks to the naysayers.

Jack_Burton_Lives just got bitchsmacked!

i was referring to the recent scandals in the british press as to the behavior of british troops: the torture allegations made against the Black Watch; the alleged rape (!) of iraqi TROOPS by british troops (hopefully without basis) and the recent arrest of a british soldier who was gleefully and proudly showing off photos of him and his mates torturing iraqis. and as for me feeling sorry for troops becausee they might "get their asses shot off" while "i walk around a mall"... i don't think so. it is an imperialist adventure. they're soldiers. they know the score. as for me, i live in indonesia and work at an investment bank.... so my biggest worry isn't "walking around a mall". it's staying alive too. like your callname BTW. i visited the site (one of them) that lawrence was filmed on. email me if you're interested in the details. sorry to ruffle feathers. jack out.

man am i getting killed here... more than usual too! pabodie...
by jackburtonlives
you are criticizing me because i'm suggesting harry is a sell-out??? man... the tide has turned. but listen, don't you think there is a conflict of interst, a conflict that has existed for a long time between being "an outsider", "a spy" while being invited to film sets, commenting on scripts, how to market and "position" films, to predict audience reactions etc. (i'm sure with compensation)? i think the contradiction with being an outsider while being an insider at the same time is at the impaled heart of AICN. so i think it's fair game to comment on it. sorry if that offends you. you don't see any contradiction, my friend?
-
Start w/Hellboy, "Seed of Destruction" -- that's got the origin story. A lot of the images we're seeing are from that graphic novel. And if I remember correctly, the last printing of it has a chronological list of Hellboy books. Read "Seed of Destruction", compare it to the images we're seeing, and PREPARE YOURSELF FOR ASS-KICKING SWEETNESS!!! BWAAA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!

Looks like ol' Rick Baker is taking a nod from his protege Rob Bottin and doing his own demon in muscle makeup(LEGEND). Looking damn impressive. Wouldn't expect less from Baker and Cinovation. "A" fucking plus Rick and Guillermo.
