CATCH ME IF YOU CAN Heading To Broadway, Too'!

Published at:  Jun 09, 2003 8:36:23 AM CDT

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

I guess it’s fitting that the morning after the Tony Awards, we have not one, but two articles up about possible Broadway shows. What makes this news particularly timely is that the team who won all the Tonys for HAIRSPRAY last night is developing a new show already.

Steven Spielberg is evidently working with them, too, to turn CATCH ME IF YOU CAN into a musical. It actually sounds like the kind of material that should make a relatively painless transition to the stage.

Anyone wanna bet that song-and-dance god Chris Walken is going to be courted to play his role from the film onstage? I know I’d pay pretty much any price for that ticket!!

"Moriarty" out.

Excuse me, sir, but is that a herd I hear rumbling by?

What is it, the people on broadway are getting nuts about remaking hollywood films? This is another example of people just not thinking for themselves. I would think they try and stick to movies that already had a significant song and dance quotient to begin with. Lord of the Rings- very few songs, most not showstoppers. Catch Me if you Can- very few songs. The producers- Well wait a minute! A couple of nice songs! Could it be that if you're making a musical, it helps if the original had part of that quality?

They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway.

They say there's always magic in the air. But I prefer to see The Matrix on Broadway, Neo could fly like Peter Pan with visible wires. I'd pay almost any price to see that.
