The closer we get to release. I have faith in Ang Lee, too. Let the fanboy-bitching begin anew! ('Heh-heh. My name's, like, up on AICN, even though I didn't post anything worth reading. Heh. I'm a true geek. *drools*') // e.

Quick poll: Which movie contains the most wonderful expression of Jennifer Connelly? My vote is The Rocketeer. Babe-o-licious!
-
...the one on her face as she gets it at the end of "requiem for a dream"...
-
Okay, you know and I know and every bugger in the cinema that the Hulk on the screen does not exist beyond the confines of some sweaty malodorous overworked and underlaid computer programmer somewhere in Los Angeles. The question is will he look real enough on the screen for us to suspend our disbelief. Sadly from the trailer, I would have to say no, he looks like a cartoon and moves like a cartoon and just generally looks superimposed. In other words, we have a fiveteen foot tall raging green monster with all the tangibility of Roger Rabbit. Maybe I'll be proved wrong when the film comes out. Maybe.
-
That moment in THE HOT SPOT where she's lying there, topless. And thus, I could never look at LABYRINTH girl the same way again...
-
...even if the CG is a let down in the final film, i still think Mr Lee will bring us a truly wonderful character driven comic book drama.
-
I need t.p. for my bunghole...
-
let's see if we get a trailer or TV spot prior that shows this level of detail in motion. But I'll be in line for this bitch....
-
But seriously now I just read that it's been confirmed that HULK changes in size 3 times during the film. He starts off at 9 feet tall and winds up at 15 feet I think. Christ though, imagine if they did She HULK and she kept getting bigger, just imagine how gigantic her titty would be!!! Ofcourse, Miss Connelly's titty are gigantic already. They are the HULK of boobies!

From a few months before they cut the trailers fr release and ILM is till working till this day...This is looking better and better each time.
I can't wait. -
One guy here has already touched on this subject folks. All the Hulk stuff we've seen up to now, is NOT, and I'll say that again, NOT and nowhere near the finished product. Even as we speak the final touches are getting added to the effects on the movie. Forget all your Gollum comparisons etc, this is gonna wipe the floor in comparison in the way that Hulk has to interact with the real enviroment. And I also think that this will be the movie of the year, even though I'm not a huge fan, mark my words, this will be huge.

For everyone who allows CGIs unreality to spoil films for them, I feel sorry for ya.
I can't believe people let a little thing like a computer graphic ruin a film for you (especially one based on a comic book), especially when these artists are creating the best things they can with the tools at their disposal.
What's the alternative? No HULK movie for 10, 20...30 years. It's never going to look perfect...well maybe it will, but not for a long long time. Until then, artists do the best they can and rely upon the audience to use a little bit of imagination, the same thing you use when you read a book or listen to a radio drama. Just because you're using your eyes as well, doesn't mean you can't use your mind!
I'm not saying bad effects can't ruin a movie, but these are not bad effect, these are not the sort of effects you see in Ninja Cyborg Death Killer Terminator 4. These are effects created by some of the top artists in their field. Accept that and apply a little imagination and worry about the other aspects of the movie, like the script, acting, directing...because the trailers have already proved the quality of the effects.

By expression I meant: Which movie contains the most glorious and angelic manifestation of all that is Jennifer Connelly?
-
It seems you so called comic guys
love to complain that they not gonna do the movie right.FUCK THAT
so far Marvel has gotten everything right in their movies so far. This ain't 1997 when they
could n't get a comic book superhero right on film, were past that dark age so why cling onto the past huh? Complain when there is REAL reason to like what
is happening to superman but not
when it looks like marvel has done another good job on film. It's time to let the mistakes from the past rest and give 'em a benefit of the doubt. -
This is what I meant in my last posting, this was posted on Superherohype I believe.....
Now, like with anything these days when it comes to Rumors or Gossip, I normally take them with a grain of salt, i.e I have a friend within the industry type of news and he has a friend of a friend of a friend type of deal.. But this Morning, a caller called in on the Howard Stern show and stated that he and a friend were amongst one of the lucky one's to catch an audience test screening of the movie yesterday in, I believe it was LA.. Howard and Robyn were in Mid talk with someone on the phone about the weekends Box Office result and how the Matrix bottomed out as badly as it did.. Howard immediately hung up on this guy when his producer, Gary, informed him that someone was on the other line who's seen the movie.. He asked how it was and the caller replied that it was quote: "INFREAKINGCREDIBLE" was his exact words and get this: What we've been seeing in terms of trailers and the Newest trailer you've seen with X2 and Bruce Almighty?? It isn't the finished product.. In another words, Universal Studios Marketing already have the REAL finished product in the Can ready for Test Audience Screenings and are showing us the unfinished trailers on purpose, which is why you keep seeing the so called animated look in alot of the shots in the trailer..The Caller said that the HULK in the finished version he saw at the test screening looks nothing like what were seeing now, which is damn good in my opinion.. Howard then proceeded to ask him how good was the story and the caller replied that it's pretty faithful to the comic with a few changes, the Cast is Awesome and the guy who plays Bruce Banner is really good and Nick Nolte is outstanding as David Banner.. He then went on to say that it was quote: The Best Special FX He's ever seen and he thought Reloaded was good, but Ang Lee has taken and crafted a story and updated it for the times and still stayed true to the character and has blown us away with how real this character really looks and interacts in a Real Environment..
Like I said, with anything, you can take things with a grain of salt, Good or Bad news, but for sometime now, I've sort of had this theory, feeling if you will, that maybe, just MAYBE, Universal really does have this as good as you could possibly imagine and are just toying with people, sort of guaging a reaction to work in their favor.. All the hoo ha about how Cartoonish or fake the HULK looked and all the bad publicity or negative word is still in the end, Publicity and people are going to flock to this more than ever now after hearing this on his show.. In short, I can't wait for June 20th!!! This sounds Incredibly well worth the wait and patience will finally pay off.. -
Still questionable...
-
Oh, well in that case I'm going to have to go with "Career Opportunities". She was still a little baby-faced, but that white tank-top and those black pants............and roller skates! The Hulk's gonna make a goddamn boat load of money this summer. The first in line will be all the bitches complaining about the CGI. Don't worry about the physics of a COMIC BOOK character that's being portrayed in a MOVIE ya' dumb bastards. If you want reality go see a documentary or better yet submet yourself to a lethal dose of gamma radiation.
-
Does anybody know who the Hulk's going to fight at the end of the movie? I heard that he's going to fight the Absorbing Man. Who I guess is David Banner (Nick Nolte), his father. Is this true? I guess it's a little too early for him to fight the Leader. Oh yeah, CG Hulk looks fucking bad ass. That's the ONLY way they could do him justice. Have some faith in ILM folks. They're fans of the genre just like we are.

Never was, never will be. He's a comic book character. Bringing him to animated "life" will always be a tricky prospect. Seems the CGI folks are doing a darn fine job in creating, and my pardons for writing it again, a comic book character who is NOT REAL! I'm going to see this on 6/20/03. Really looking forward to the first viewing of the "Peter Pan" teaser trailer and hoping to see Eric Bana do an improved American accent, from his "Black Hawk Down" performance.
-
I confirmed this with 2 sources. The Hulk meets a CGI Hulk Hogan as the baddie in the final epic scene where Jennifer Connolies is exposed to a mega dose of Gamma rays giving her huge fake green CGI titties only to be sodomised...by of all things...a hulk dog.
"Don't make me angry. You won't like me when I'm angry, Brother." -
Well, I am of the opinion that the HULK looks like an inflated arnold swarzeneggar with greean paint on him, but that's just me. Oh well, what can you expect? I'm sure THIS Hulk will turn out better than anything that could have been cocked up with puppets or forced perspective or anything like that.
And to that someone who was bitching about the physics, uh...ok? That's not the only thing to bitch about if you wanna get into shit like that. You could also say how the Hulk, even if he was that big would pretty much just be like a big inflated green guy, considering mass cannot be created or destroyed. And how the hell did he not get radiation poisoning anyway?!?! AHEM...whew, got a little carried away...*cough cough*, ANYWAYS I'm sure this movie will be better than Shrek 2. That's all. -

While you smart folks continue the debate on CGI, the rest of us
by nottoo
Picture if you will, hardworking-mommy goes to grocery store directly from pick-up at the day care center to be overcome by sheer Hulk promo processed foodstuffs. I'm HULK SMASHED, no doubt about it. There's Hulk breakfast cereal, Hulk cookies, Hulk freezie pops, Hulk POPtart-type things and the worst of all - green Hulk Hershey's chocolate syrup. (the marketers did have the decency to inform the lot of us that it just looks green, but tastes like chocolate. Yum on that one!) Looks like a very green summer to kid-dom, and parent-dom, too, if we fall victim to the screeching and wailing of our wee ones. In case you're interested, we chose only the freezie pops. But I do foresee a morning of green eggs, and possibly ham, for my family in the very near future. In a word, Universal's Marketing Department has gone universal on this film. Thank God "Matrix Reloaded" was rated-R or we'd be eating black Cheerios by now. Dodged that bullit in slow-motion style. Whew!
-
Obviously that second pic is a shot of WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar that someone color adjusted with photoshop.................. I'm sura Avi and the boys are panicking, seeing how the CGI is so terrible it pulls you right out of an otherwise perfectly plausible story. Damnit, why couldn't they have had the technology to make little clouds of dust pop up when the Hulk stomps his feet?................................ My inside source tells me they're already working on two different versions of the sequel, one with Kane Hodder, who's been undergoing radical surgeries and steriod treatments for the past year to truly bring the Hulk to "life" (that's why he wasn't in Freddy vs. Jason), and the other using the Marvel Legends Hulk action figure and stop motion photography (directd by Tim Burton). Hopefully one of these can pull Marvel out of the gutter the horrible effects of Spidey-Man has put them into..................................................................I wonder if by some miracle, this movie becomes the cultural phenomenon that "Batman" was (y'know, kids getting the Hulk symbol shaved into their heads and stuff), is the studio going to have to pay Hogan royalties whenever someone uses the termHulk-a-mania?............................... I mean, holy crap, the 7-11 is already overrun with Hulk tie-ins. (Although that green tinted beef jerky tasted horrible).
-
This is my hope for THE summer blockbuster. Ang Lee meets Stan Lee - how can it possibly fail, right ? However - I'm a little wary after seeing the trailer. Sure, the Hulk looks great in still photos - but the dubious CGI I saw on the trailer left me a little disappointed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
-
Hmmmm..........black Cheerios with 1's mixed in with all the 0's....."everything the human body needs"....that would have been marketing Genius. Personally, I think Heinekin should have gone with Hulk instead of Reloaded........."Hulk Smashed"......... drinking straight out of a keg. Then they could show the keg can for normal sized guys............... I should get paid for this.
-
I have never been a comic book reader. I have some comics, but I have never been a die-hard Marvel or DC or Image or what-have-you fan of a specific series. I saw and liked both X-Men, Spider-man, and Superman (save for IV, even I didn't care for that one) movies. And I am curious to see LXG and Hulk as well. As for the CGI Hulk issues, people would be bitchy even if they used a puppet Hulk or make-up Hulk (i.e. the old TV series). The way I see it, most of these people that complain are just the fans who have loved the comics for so long that any attempt to realize thier idols on screen will never be good enough.
I on the other hand will just be happy if the movie is good. I can look past the obvious CGI renderings, like I did with Reloaded, and have a good time at the movie.
Of couse I may only be saying what others have said so far, I am only trying to be a more active Talk-Backer. -
The Hulk looks great. End of story. And the people who say he doesn't look great? They're lying.
-
The Hulk looks great for what it is, a CGI green-skinned monster! Only people that don't understand the beauty that is the conception of this movie that, in all truth, some of us have been waiting our whole lives to happen. Let me tell you about bad effects...watch Matrix Reloaded when Neo fights all the Agent Smiths. That elongated and boring fight scene showed some very goofy cgi moves pulled by both Neo and the Agents. You could plainly see in many shots that the faces were pasted on badly animated cgi bodies! That is fucking bad cgi! The Hulk might not look real to most people but that's because they know how a human being looks and acts, nobody said the same about Jurassic Park! Oh, another thing. People flocked to see the worst animated character in movie history when Reloaded came out! His name is Keanu Reeves started as Neo. The McFarlane toys figure has more acting potential than the real deal! By the way, the Hulk cereal tastes great!
-
What? He does!

After all of your rambling on how your "in the business" of CGI you didn't come up with one good reason why Hulk shouldn't be CGI. Are you one of those morons who thinks he should be a body builder painted green while jumping around in front of a blue screen? Do you realize how stupid that would look??? There is no other way in hell the Hulk could look right without being CG. Why don't you think they haven't tried this earlier? He's a 10' tall 1,000 lb monster!!! Have you people ever seen a Hulk comic? His arms are the size of tree trunks!!! Nobody, I mean nobody has the proportions to pull it off. Are you the janitor of a CG effects house or something?

Happy to hear the Hulk cereal tastes good. The kids are on that one, big time. One question - is it GREEN? Also loved the earlier post regarding Marketing. Matrix 1's and 0's, in steely, tasty black - cool. And Heineken (sorry on the sp?) should definitely have gone with the Hulk. Green bottle and all. I failed to mention a recent sighting of Hulk paper plates and napkins. But the buyer must be warned here. Hulk on a plate does not encourage people under the age of 45 to eat naturally green things, such as green beans, broccli or spinach. And to all Hulk lovers - please don't eat the Hulk in cookie form, they're simply not very good. Don't even get me started on how truly dreadful the cookie-CGI looks.

Ok FalloutBoy, I really liked your post on CGI bitchers. I think you are right on and you actually made a decent and worthwhile contribution to the Talkback. That said, even though Zzsazz is a trolling troglodyte, his "nipple tweak" comment puts him slightly over the edge. Sorry man.

Hit it on the head bro....Looks like the Nutty Professor (Not Murphy, dimwits) during the 38 hour of the telethon. All he needs is ole Deano back from the grave with high-ball in hand. I havent read a Hulk comic in years...or any comics for that matter aside from an occasional Aliens or Predator book every great now and then, but i think the Movie looks great, the Hulk looks great, and i guess its nice to see Nick Nolte earning some crack money. My biggest concern is the plot. I really hope that Dr. Banner's Father isnt a Hulk as well, and they leave the ending open to a good sequel with an actual super-villian. Anyways..i have high hopes for this movie, because the movie i really was anticipating is not looking too good so far..once Travolta was cast as a Punisher villian..The Hulk soon became the Marvel movie stand in line for. And this is my first post here so some of you flaming hulk-bashing comedians welcome me.
-
Anyone who says that the Hulk TV show was good has lost all crediblility. I mean I liked it as a little kid too, but even then I knew that the Hulk looked stupid. Talking about stupid, anyone is stupid who thinks we will have totally believable CGI human characters within our lifetime. So criticizing the Hulk for not being totally believable is absurd and only points out what kind of delusional world you sadly live in. The Hulk looks kick-ass...it looks like great CGI...better than the Matrix lame CGI of Neo. But maybe not as great as the Animatrix CGI in "Osaris". It was truly incredible.
-
OF COURSE this movie is a bad idea, but it isn't just THIS movie. It's EVERY movie. As you know, the greatest entertainment ever offered to the public was the original Punch and Judy. Undoubtedly, some of my affection for it can be traced to the fact that it was popular when I was but a youthful squire, but I've reminisced about it recently, and it still stands up. No depiction of violent puppets since has equalled the pain and humiliation of being Judy. No matter what Judy did, no matter how good his situation, you knew he was going to end up being pummeled with that stick. And man did you love it. You didn't merely hope that Punch would flay him mercilessly, more than anything you wanted Punch to find a way to beat Judy with TWO sticks. Part of that was the solid writing, and part of it was Punch and Judy's great performances. Hell, a large part of it was that stick. For whatever reason, that show just worked really well. All movies pale in comparison and are a waste of time in the making. (Hint: kidding. Hulk rules.)
-
I once saw a Punch and Judy show live. Gave me the freakin' creeps. sk
-
Somebody should throw a hulk lookalike contest. They could show it on Fox: call it "Am I Hulk" or "Who Wants to Marry a Hulk" or something.
-
I shall hit you with my stick.
-
*sigh*
-
Even as a little kid i knew that show was lame..and when i saw the Hulk and Thor(sheesh)straining to hold down a helocopter trying to take off....i took my Cap'n Crunch in the next room and ate in silence.
-
Sorry to hear that, BUT was the Captn Crunch GREEN? Did it come in a Hulk-a-rama designed box? Was there a Hulk-a-tastic Secret Decoder in that box? We wanna know? Really.
-
The Can'p was crunchy that bright Saturday morn....but yet maintained a softer side as the milk glistened from beneath..as did my pre-pubescent curiosity while watching Isis.

Is that a motion blur filter on your CGI shot - or are you just
by scuzzofilm
Long time viewer first time poster.. Quick note to add to the anti-CGI grumbling. Mother of god, the previews for this film make me not want to see it at all now. Anyone else notice how extreme the motion blur is on the Hulk previews - like when he tosses the tank. I get the idea of motion blurs, CGI created one frame at a time has no blur like film capturing a moment at 24fps, but for FUCKS SAKE! Imagine if you saw a real person running or tossing a tank, or imagine if you filmed it or taped it - there wouldn't be that extreme of a blur. There is no way. I know he is moving fast or whatever but come on. I was watching a performance of Cirque Du Solie the other night, couldn't sleep after the Hulk preview, and those circus freak people move fast - but they are still clear for the most part. Everything is all extreme gen-x Gatorade playstation motion blur effects in Hollywood now a days! Makes me sick. In addition, The Hulk looks like Shrek for gods sake. Someone mentioned that effects have always been somewhat fake, and I agree. BUT, before, the film makers would try and hide the short comings (good ones anyway) and would always leave you wanting more. Now they just show us everything. I'd rather see the tank behind a hill, cut to the Hulk running behind the hill, then cut to a tank flying through the air, cut to another soldier making the "Oh FUCK face" cut to a crashing tank. Done. Then we could imagine the effect for ourselves. Now we see him pick the tank up and toss it all in one shot. So, if it looks fake we don't buy it - it forces us, the sober audience, to make a discussion whether or not what we saw was real. So if you are going to force us to decide - the shit better look real. And this shit looks like, well steaming shit. Thanks, but I'll just stick to medium and wide shots of actors in rubber suits any day.
-
What about us, the drunken audience? (Personally, I think the best way to see any movie, is with a bit of a buzz).
-
I heard that in the old tv show..Dr Banners name was Changed from Bruce to David because Bruce was too homosexual sounding...i know a guy named Bruce...he really likes flowers too.

HULK cgi haters = WETA loyalists who hate Lucas and want to brin
by moriarity report
Same old stuff! The few shots we saw of Gollum before TTT came out pretty much looked like shit too, then it blew everyone away. If some New Zealand hillbillies can do a job like that, than there's no reason ILM can't do even better. I have no idea why people are saying HULK looks like shit, when all they've seen is a few quick cuts on TV here and there. What made Gollum so great wasn't the technology of the CG itself, but the performance the creature gave. Again, we have all of these self appointed "experts" trying to act smart by nitpicking this stuff. BUt they're really just Lucas-hating some more, because that's their hobby. To bring down "da man". But just remember who da man is...Yo Da Man! YODA DA MAN!!
-
There's nothing about "accepting" CG humanoid's. It's the ONLY way to make this movie work. You have yet to come up with a more feasible solution to make the Hulk look as "real" as he can be. What do you suggest? Make a 10' remote controlled, animatronic Hulk that moves around like he has epilepsy? Please enlighten us with your vast knowledge of the "business". What did you produce? A Colgate commercial? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
-
I'm sorry to tell you this Angora, but Dune's effects weren't that good. The worms looked like handpuppets in a sandbox with really bad blue screen work. And the Aliens were human sized creatures so all you had to do was strap on and Alien suit and you were set. They weren't 10' tall and a 1,000 fucking lbs!!!!!

Tis All. The fact Harry is psyched about Hulk, and yet did not favor Matrix makes me think he has no intelligence and gets his jollies by playing with his bitch tits. I won't like the Hulk unless it has vampires and werewolves.

Whoever says that Hulk looks too fake is just stupid. Plain and simply stupid. Will I justify my opinion of you stupid people? No. Your stupidity will stop you from taking anyone elses opinion that differs from your seriously. Don't like how the Hulk looks? Fine. Don't go see the movie. BUT WAIT!!! You will see the movie anyway!! And if you say that you won't, you're a liar. And stupid.
-
you have, what, 2 more years till you get your pubes? good luck in 8th grade next year.

There's a great bit in a MAD magazine send-up of the Hulk TV show where Banner is explaining that his name was changed because the producers didn't think Bruce sounded masculine enough. Meanwhile, in the background a television is declaring, "...and Jenner wins the decathlon! BRUCE is the world's greatest athlete!"
With regards to Lee's alliterative associations, they weren't always foolproof. In Fantastic Four #25, the Hulk's alter-ego is continually referred to as BOB Banner. Delightful! -
I just drew that conclusion from the past months of reading some idiotic TB posts. People keep giving names of great movies that didn't use CGI. Well, King Kong was a great movie, and it used shitty stop motion animation. Anyways, all those great movies people name all used the BEST special effects that were available at the time. And anyone who says that CG isn't the best way to go about doing a Hulk movie properly, is just stupid.
-
Oh, Piddle. Youth truly IS wasted on the young, isn't it? Your naive dismissal of Willis O'Brien's ground-breaking techniques speaks more eloquently about your ignorance than 20 Buzz Mavericks could in a lifetime of bourbon-fueled barbs. I...I can't even look at you right now. Go stand in the corner.
-
I meant if the same technique were used today to make the Hulk. Then it would be "shitty". But then again, some of you geeks wouldn't be happy with ANY technique was used.
-
I could never stay mad at you. Now run along, you little scamp.
-
I much like the things ive heard, like the movie being centered on Bruce Banners Jekyl/Hyde type guilt towards being Hulk (and liking it) and the whole psycological aspect. As well as some bad ass special effects. I greatly hope for detail as needed, and wish for Connely nude scenes, but thats a bit far fetched. As to whoeverthehells comment on the comic adaptations being good lately...one word, dick...daredevil...but, hey, im a just a geeky teenager anyway and nitpick shit like that waaaaay too much. I realy want this movie to be good, and if possible, true to the Kirby/Lee type kinda-rampaging, realy likeing smashing stuff, barely under control Hulk I know and love.
And the best Jennifer Connely portrayel is most definiatly in Requiem for a Dream. God, she was beautiful in that. -
The Hulk cereal isn't all that good. In fact, it is bad. It has corn puffed sugar as its base with marshmellow chemistry beakers (no really) tiny green Hulks that look WAY worse than the CGI pictures even. It was on sale REALLY cheep and my 1 year likes it but what does he know? Back to Cheerios for him.
-
Vampires and Werewolves in it I think it will suck. Those are trademarks of a fantastic movie eh Harry?

I didnt want this talkback to be about CGI and personal attacks, so lets get this back on topic. ... ... Which is your favorite Jennifer Connelly movie? My vote ... The Rocketeer. Babe-o-licious!

Thank you McCere with the final word on the Hulk cereal. By your response, I detect that the little corn puffs are NOT green. Good. As for the crappy cereal CGI, sounds quite like the equally disappointing cookie CGI. Don't think the wet dough technicians are ever going to be able to make the Hulk look REAL. A sad thing for kids and parents, alike. I can also attest that the Hulk POPtart-type things have absolutley no resemblence to the comic-book character, either. AND they taste like green-colored sugar cookies. Just as they were created to be. Now Towelie...I hate to break it to you, but it TWAS I that made the smart-aleck commment on the King Arthur talkback. I thought it best to warn those folks that Arthurian legend and Smurfs do not mix well with Hulk CGI antics and discussions on Hulk-related grocery items. I've been whoring back and forth between the two discussions throughout the day. BUT, I'll be more than happy to go back there again with you and kick some butt. This has been fun. Really. By the way, the Hulk FREEZIE POPS are not all green and lime-flavored. Its just the Hulk box, its a shameful and empty hulk of a package. Booo!
-
All the movies that you cited with the exception of Legend do not create effects that approximate a human. Tell me what non-CGI technique would you use to try and visually sell the fact that you have a giant 15', green humanoid running at 160mph across a desert? Can you even imagine how retarded devil dude from Legend would look if they tried to rotoscope him running into a desert backdrop? He looked super-stupid the ONE time that you did see him run. That makeup was COOL, but the illusion would not have held up given certain situations. What non-CGI tool would you use to show him leaping from a cliff onto a helicopter? Go motion? C'mon man. Saying that CGI should not have been used is just a knee jerk reaction against it being used too much. Do people over utilize it? Hell yes. But it does have its place and I can't think of a better one that this.

Career Opportunities gets my vote for the best representation of Jennifer Connelly at her hottest.Especially the part where Frank Whaley skates by and catches sight of her in all her pouty-lipped,pre-weight loss splendor. To paraphrase Red in The Shawshank Redemption,I love when she does that shit with her stare.

Will the Hulk movie have vampires and werewolves, and perverted monkeys? And honestly, couldn't we get a great big mechanical spider in there somewhere?

the part of Dexter's Laboratory that is a rip-off/homage to Hulk, Capt. America, and Thor? I think it is called the Justice Friends or something. The Incredible Hulk is The Irrasible Crunk. Capt. America is Major Glory. And Thor is Val Halen, Nordic god of Rock. Pretty funny stuff actually.

Hey boys....got a newsflash for you. ALL CGI is fake. Comic Books DON'T exist. Comic Books are fake. Hate to be the one to break it to you. Sooner you get over THAT, the more you will enjoy movies.
State-of-the-art CGI will be shown in Hulk. Best we can get now. When all CGI looks 100% natural and life-like, we'll have no more use for "actors".
We'll be there someday (maybe).
Til' then...relax and come outta the basement...and enjoy a cool-lookin' movie based on a COMIC BOOK that isn't really REAL. -

Reality in films is only an illusion anyway. Asking for perfection in this form of entertainment is kind of pointless, otherwise nobody would go see stage shows, right? Try not to get so worked up over it, because as cool as a photo-realistic giant, green dude with purple pants would be, it's not gonna kill you if ILM's best just wasn't good enough. Whether or not you can tell that he's confused or angry or sad or contemplative is infintely more important. On that note, you *do* gotta admit that this is damn good effects work.

8th grade, making lime shebert shakes with my brother on Friday nights, just minutes before The Incredible Hulk started. I want that piano solo sheet music. "Dr. Davis Banner, physician, scientist, searching for a way to tap into the hidden strength all humans have, till one day an accidental overdose of gamma radiation altered his body chemistry, and now whenever he becomes angry or enraged, a Startling Metamorphosis occurs." "Mr. Magee, don't make me angy. You wouldn't like me, when I'm angry." RIP, Eddie's Father. Goodnight, Beantown.

by the g-man
The original point of the Hulk was that Doc Banner was a scientist playing god with radiation for military purposes and was punished by becoming a monster. Based on what I've seen so far, here, Doc Banner is the victim of child abuse being punished for the sins of his father. Not the same thing. This is more troublesome to me than the quality of the CGI.

BTW, Goodnight Beantown was the other TV show to put Bill Bixby and Mariette Hartley together. In the 2-hr pilot for The Incredible Hulk, she played David Banner's lovely bride and fellow scientist.

Mr Hyde looks bloody terrible in the LXG or whatever it is now called preview. I have gone through it frame by frame and the best images of him look 10 times worse than the worst scenes we have seen of the Hulk so far. 6 months from now, when both films have been out I think tha comment that Hulk should have been done like Hyde is gonna seem pretty ludicrous.
Another thing. All those films you mentioned, Ghostbusters, The Thing etc. All were great films, all had great effects for the time. All look totally fake. I love The Thing and am amazed at some of the stuff they pulled off back then like the spider head scene. But if you think that looks real, or in any way more realistic than the Hulk effects I think you better look again. There's no comparison. And if these movies were being released today, looking as they do, everyone here would be tearing the living shit out of the special effects. How could you not tell that the taxi driving corpse in Ghostbusters was some kind of puppet? If there was not some massive double standard being applied you would have to say "Jesus that looked fake as fuck and took me out of the film, blah, blah blah".But people expect so much more from CGI.
Were the effects in those movies shit because you could tell they weren't real? I say no but based on the way you and others speak of the Hulk I think you would have to say they were to maintain consisency. They were the best available techniques at the time. And the same is true here. And I think for the most part they look fucking excellent. Perfect? no. but neither was Gollum, the thing, the yoda puppet, and certainly not Mr Hyde. -
OK then, there must have been a series pilot episode after the Hulk TV movie, but the the movie came before the series and had the same lead actor, same haunting music, etc. I thought the TV movie WAS the pilot, as it contained the origin of the Hulk, his wife dying and everything. Anyway, the one I am talking about was good enough to either win or be nominated for an Emmy, if I recall correctly. It was only about 25 years ago.

AngoraSweater, do you have some particular agenda against the Hu
by ribbons
If Ang Lee gets to dictate how his actors behave, he should be able to dictate how the Hulk behaves. He's the only one who knew exactly what he expected from a scene; it's his vision, not a WWE wrestler's. That point shouldn't even have to be argued. Just because Ang Lee isn't musclebound doesn't mean that his movements can't be translated onto the Hulk's body.

Those pics don't look like the same Hulk I saw in the trailer
by oompacabra
Those pics look like they were designed for advertising, not for the film. The one in the trailer is just rotten looking as far as i'm concerned. And to the guy who asks "what's the alternative to cgi, not making the movie for 10-20-30 years?" How 'bout an actor? If it's the new proportions of the character(he's grown a bit since I read the comic...maybe I'm old) why not tackle that problem Lord of the Rings style. I never questioned the proportions in LOTR, but I can't even watch this film, because I find the rubberry composition of the character uneasing to my senses.

"I heard that in the old tv show..Dr Banners name was changed from Bruce to David because Bruce was too homosexual sounding..."
I would say that is a fair assessment. No hero on TV has ever been named Bruce that I can recall, and I am a big TV watcher now in my early 50s. The name has had homosexual connotations for decades, although only God knows why. -
"Quick poll: Which movie contains the most wonderful expression of Jennifer Connelly? My vote is The Rocketeer."
She was lovely in this to say the least. She also was hot as hell in some downbeat crime film from the same period, although I cannot for the life of me remember its name. I believe it costarred Jason Patric, but I cannot find any film costarring these two on IMDB. Maybe it was Dennis Hopper. Who knows? She is, as has been noted, a shadow of her former self these days. -
Sir sledge. yu are among the biggest fags i have ever seen in my life. who the fuck is hulk hogan dipshit. U obviously have no life because your making up crap to sound cool. My friends and I came to the conclusion (they're not comic fans btw) that the Hulk looks like a video game. It does. I seriously, in all honesty, would rather take the now obsolete Hulk from the tv series and movie of the weeks. I really mean that. I got that dvd last week where Hulk teamed up with Thor and another with Daredevil. Good shit I tell you. -
You hold up LOTR as an example. The only thing that comes close to approximating The Hulk in LOTR is the Cave Troll. Which is...wait for it..CG! (and it looked FANTASTIC!) With the mixture of sets, suits, forced perspective shots, makeup etc. ad nauseum your movie would cost twice as much to make and most likely take twice as long.
Now before you get all gleeful about the cost thing, let -

ass if you keep talking shitz of how the hulk look bad and how it is going to bomb and shitz. I bet some of you lowlife scumbags have nothing better to do and can't get any pussies so you put your eyes on the PC monitor and jacking off on porns all day long and got blinded by the monitor or something. I think the CGI will look just fine.
Would I have liked a real actor/person for the Hulk?
yes - but no one could pull off the look. They would only have access to wrestlers/bodybuilders.
They would have the problem they had with Kingpin in Daredevil to a degree. The ones that looked the part couldn't act - the ones that coudl act did not look the part. That's why they made the decision to go with Michael Duncan Clarke. While he was African American and not the ethnicity of the comic book Kingpin - that was the best they could do to get the look and a competent actor to be in spirit with the comic. And it worked fined.
but for Hulk? I don't see anyone filling those purple pants. You could get wrestlers - but they wouldn't pull off the necessary emotions. I'm, a big wrestling fan too - but no one could do the Hulk.
it's been reported that ILM incorporated facial features and expressions from Connelly's prior movies and Ang Lee and Bana to meld them together and give this CGI character great expressive feautre. I think they will rival what any bodybuilder/wrestler could do.
On a sidenote - Ferrigno was good - but Hulk Hogan I believe would've been pretty good inose TV movies.
He might not have done great movies but the build, the height and the necessary facial expressions needed for the Hulk would be something he could pull off.
This brings me back to why not have used Hulk Hogan for this film.
Well he looks much kinnier now for one thing - and the ILM effects of incorporating the facial expressions of Connelly, bana and Lee i think will surpass even what the other Hulkster could've done.
-
I'm sorry Harry but Hulk is bad looking- fake CGI at it's worst.IT is fairly f***ing ridiculous. It is a very bad design to start with.Very bad.Whoever designed it should be given a spanking. It has the look of a big unscary uninteresting goof ball. And the clips we've sean resemble rank and Bass cartoons. I'm curious to know how much money the studio has given you to support it on your site. The rest of us are laughing at it.

Man, I just don't get it ... I love CGI! I wish all movies were full of CGI! My wife dragged me along to see some wretched flick with Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullocks - jesus, what I wouldn't have given to see a little CGI instead! Seriously, when you go see a movie with green monsters or goblins or whatever, what exactly is the problem with CGI? CGI is the GREATEST thing to happen to cinema since stop-motion!

I've SEEN the movie and all I can say is if you've ever read the Hulk comic book, you are going to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this movie!!! Ang Lee has crafted a mighty fine piece of cinema. My experience of seeing the Hulk on screen was just like being a ten year old kid again. When I left the movie theatre I was high as a kite from the sheer excitement it generated.
And forget about all those people that keep droning on and on about the lame TV show. The HULK is a comic book hero!! The TV show was NEVER a faithful adaptation of the Hulk and always bummed me out as a true Hulk Fan. The TV show was just a lame rip off of the Fugitive, except the main character turned angry and green every now and then. And another thing, Dr banner's name is BRUCE!! Not David!!! And, sorry Mr Ferrigno, I know you put a lot into your performance as the TV Hulk, but a human being could NEVER do justice to what the HULK really is. The Hulk in this movie is EXACTLY the way the Hulk is meant to be. AWESOME!!!!
Forget all those cynics that doubt the movies FX etc. Everything in this movie looks incredible. The intergration of the CG Hulk into the real environments is flawless. When you see Hulk smashing things like crazy and tossing tanks around etc, you believe he's there doing it for real!! The visual effects are among the best I've seen in a movie ever. The action scenes are amazing to behold. They are big, fast, loud and capture Hulk's awesome strength and size perfectly. And wait till you see the scene with the Mutant Dogs. It's savage, brutal and jaw droppingly exciting. It will give kids nightmares!!!
Also, Ang Lee did a wonderful job in translating the comic book feel with his clever use of split screen shots and inventive transitions between scenes. Sometimes the movie actually looks like the page from a comic book! Such a great idea and it works so well. This movie has so much energy, including the music from Danny Elfman, which is his best work yet. I really feel that he's hitting his stride as a composer of film scores. Usually his music feels seperated from the action on screen. Not this time!! The music here works so well. It enhances every scene without ever taking over. Exactly what a film score should do.
I don't want to give away the story, but Ang Lee made sure that the story reflected the very basic theme of the Hulk, and that is the theme of emotional repression. The story is based on freudian theory and explores all the ideas of repressed memory, emotional trauma and of course the unique freudian dynamic between father and son. This is not a simple story at all. It resonates on so many levels and also greatly improves upon the "science" of what created the Hulk by being true to the comic book origin, but spinning it in a new direction. So yes, we still have the gamma radiation explosion in the dessert, but this screenplay runs with that idea and creates a much bigger and complex concept for what really creates the Hulk. It also is the central thrust of the narrative as opposed to it being a simple and disposable origin like Spider-man's was. The origin and creation of the Hulk is basically the whole story of this movie.
Eric Bana is wonderful as Bruce Banner and the chemistry between him and Jennifer Connely works really well. Their relationship seems so real, so fragile and wonderfully heartfelt.
It was so important to me that this movie worked. The Hulk comic book was such a big part of my life as child and teenager and Ang Lee just got it soooooo right. If you liked X-Men and Spider-Man then you will LOVE this. If you didn't like those movies, then why go and see this? It isn't for you. Everyone else, strap yourself in cuz this is one bumpy ride!! HULK RULES!

It occurs to me after coming here to hopefully get some insight into upcoming movies that that is almost impossible. Go back and look at your postings. It is absurd. It seems obvious to me that the majority of you that are arguing and calling names and making threats are the same type of people that cower from any type of confrontation in real life. It is further obvious to me that you probably come here to vent those emotions. Face it, most of you would not have the guts to stand up and act this way to anyone's face.
In conclusion, I have found that this forum is the same as most of the other movie forums, and it is sad. Really sad. Take heed this advice, and please look past the fact that I might have insulted you: GROW UP! Step back from your keyboard, go out into the real world, and deal with your problems like real men. Don't bother to reply, becuase this is the last time I will visit here.
Thanks and good luck.
