New TERMINATOR 3 Trailer Up!

Published at:  May 16, 2003 4:08:27 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... It's a nice looking trailer, but I continue to hear mixed word about the final product. I've begun to hear whispers from folks that like it, while Moriarty is continuing to hear that the film sports miserable dialogue, though we don't know if the words "Choice" and "Point" will be abused, though I've been told to fear the line... "TALK TO THE HAND!" Which... given one shot in this trailer, I could see being one of those moments that makes you just want to scream. However... all of that aside, Arnie's face is chewed up real nice, the semi flip looks great, there a lot of shiny evil Terminators and the T-X is looking less and less ridiculous, though she isn't quite to the point where I'd say... "Cool" yet. Here ya go...

Hi Harry,

The trailer is available in quicktime only and includes a fullscreen size.

yeah baby, I saw this tagged onto Reloaded last night

    by tall_boy

I went with a few of my buddies who aren't movie geeks at all, and they were buzzing about this trailer the most. The trailerage keeps getting better and better. The opening of it with John doing the voiceover is sweet and I dug the ending of it with Arnie litteraly frying his circuits if he should strangle Connor or not. And I do think the glimpses of the T-X has made it to "cool" realm. (even though her landing in the past doesn't show her tits. fuckers. . .) could it be? a cool terminator flick with zero cameron involvement and an aging arnold . . . nah .. . it can't . . its the evil trailer people . . . but could it be? *looks whistfully at the stars as a lone tear runs down his cheeks*

    by heleno

Not, like, LotR hyped, or X2 hyped, or Hulk hyped. But a little bit hyped all the same. Nick Stahl looks to be doing rather well, although if that's 97 and the original terminator was set in 84 he's an awfully mature 13 year old. And if he is indeed 18 we're back to Paradox City aren't we? Still, this has the requisite explosions, Arnie, unstoppable bland killing machine, Arnie and worried authority figures to make a terminator movie work. They appear to be trying to blend the first two movies, so Arnie is good and bad in this one. Genius - what next?

Shouldn't Ed Furlong have been about 8 in T2 as well. Perhaps future kids have some sort of hormone imbalance. Anyway, I'm kinda looking forward to this as well. Slightly more than 2Bad2Boys, slightly less than Hulk, around about Around the World in 80 Days levels in fact...

The other Terminator films looked like they took place in a world with real metal and concrete and dust and flourescent lighting. By comparison, this film looks like a Tom and Jerry cartoon. And since when did Arnold decide that this is his A.I.? He's supposed to be a killing machine, not, as it looks like in the trailer, a biker who really needs to use the bathroom. If he thinks the series needs some poignancy he apparently didn't see the last film.

You are quite right, eddie should indeed have been 7 or 8. And it's not so much future kids as past kids now, is it? Unless they managed to delay the war at the end of T2, but then we're back to Paradox City. Or perhaps it wasn't really 1984. Anyway, call me deeply stupid (don't feel obliged though) but I only realised the true extent of the Terminator / Matrix similarities with this trailer. Honestly - "in a world of permanent darkness, where mankind's destiny is controlled by machines, only one man can save us". Only thing is that i fear audiences are gonna pick up on the similarities and get bored, relaxing their vigilence against the machines until they TAKE OVER THE WORLD! At least this trailer puts paid to the idea that John Connor changed his name to Paul Anderson to hide from the Terminators...

T3 trailer should not have been stuck to Reloaded

    by tko

The voiceover at the beginning of the T3 trailer pretty much tells the premise of the Matrix world...While the trailer looks amazing, and the story of the Terminator series is pretty cool, hearing that voiceover right before seeing Reloaded gave audiences a negative reaction, giving T3 a feeling of unoriginality and cheesiness

    Dates, Years, and Stuff

    by clevocrew

John Connor was born in 1985. Terminator 2 took place in the near future of 1995 even though it was released in 1992. Eddie Furlong was 13 years old in 1992, but played a Ten year old boy from the year 1995. T3 takes place in 2005 when John Connor is 20 as portrayed by Nick Stahl whose age I do not know. Apparently Judgement Day was averted in 1997 so the TX is around to put it back on track in 2005. Make sense?

    by heleno

I see we are back in Paradox ville - if they changed the date of the start of the war, how come in the trailers he appears to know exactly when it's gonna start? Did Arnie tell him when he came back this time around? Madness madness.

This Film Is Not Yet Rated

    by han ol' buddy

The John Connor voice over has a familiar ring to it. Smacks of Neo from the Matrix. A sunless sky, machines taking over, one man that can do anything about it? Weird. All I know is that I've always wanted to see a Terminator movie that was set in the apocalyptic future and filled with cool Terminator/Human laser fights. Hopefully there are plenty of these in the movie. However, I really don't know how a Cameron-less film will go over. One can hope.

    Matrix makes Terminator look cheap?

    by mrvenomsir

How is that possible when the Terminator series pre-dates the Matrix by over a decade?

The Terminator series is obviously one of the Matrix's influences. The Terminator story laid the foundation that the Matrix built off of and expanded.

I'm semi-interested in this one, but the trailer shows promise.

    Clarification

    by lcaby748

First of all, I want to say- the final T3 trailer kicked ass, regardless of what all you pre-pubescent babies are whining about. And this is coming from someone who had almost written T3 off. Secondly, to clarify a few things. The Matrix used some of the basic premises of Terminator (which by the way came out 15 years previous and was admitted to by the Matrix writers). Beyond that, T2 started the age of CGI, although the orginal Matrix put an all new twist on it (bullet-time, complex kung-fu fighting). That being said, this is not a knock on the Matrix. I've enjoyed both films; however, I do believe Reloaded was a let down. That is not to say it wasn't good- it was. In fact, it prob is the best action film of the year to date. But, I side some with many critics- the film was hyped to ungodly standards, and it didn't meet them. I don't think any film sequel could- Terminator included. Just enjoy it for what it is and wait til November, which will hopefully bring it together. Going off that, you haters need to give T3 a chance. It has been 12 years since T2 and they're still is interest in the film- that says a lot. The Terminator series has also spanned almost 20 years, right behind Star Wars as the longest action series. The Matrix series won't even crack 5. I understand why it won't, and it is good from a money- making stanpoint, but I certainly don't think it will have the same legacy. All you people under 20 probably have no idea the cultural impact Terminator has had. While it probably never reached the hysterical proportions the Matrix has, it has stood the test of time far more than the Matrix probably ever will. End point. And the action looks good. I'm glad it's not overkill on CGI. I for one am getting tired of how Hollywood, like many other things, has used CGI too recklessly and lessened it's impact. Remember the T-1000 effects in T2? Remember bullet-time before copycats killed the coolness of it. My point exactly. My final point is this: For the past year I have been subjected to how the Marix:Reloaded was going to be the best film ever. It's not- though it will be phenominal at the box office. Just because you are not happy with the critics- quit taking the easy way out by knocking T3. In due time, T3 and the conclusion of the Matrix series will speak for themselves.

    by darth brooks

The Terminator theme playing in this trailer isn't like the original theme - - it's more like an anvil-chime version of the Battlefield 1942 theme. Am I right? Maybe not. Shouldn't this be T4? I thought T3 was that show at Universal Studios.

T3 looks like it will rock

    by ps_power

One thing I learned when first browsing the net (and was surprised by) was how many people out there seem to not like anything. They are fanboys of one thing, then give NOTHING else a chance, and question everything before the full information is even available. Such is the case with T3. T2 was incredible, and this T3 trailer was amazing. It was very well edited and got the job done quite nicely. Then I come here and hear people saying "it sucks...it doesnt make sense....bla bla bla". Goodness, don't you guys like ANYTHING?? Oh, that's right, you like Matrix. You've invested so much into the Matrix sequel that no matter how bad it is it will be good to you. And anything like T3 that seems to challenge the Matrix in hype you automatically dislike and question. It automatically sucks. Wow, some people got issues. T3 looks great. It might suck, but the trailer looked pretty snazzy.

    no sense of history....

    by rupee88

Saying that the Matrix ripped off themes from the first Terminator film is absurd. The whole "robots taking over the world" concept has been done in countless sci-fi books going back decades and decades. Ever heard of Issac Asimov? Both the Matrix and Terminator put a slightly different slant on the theme, but it is absolutely nothing new. Anyway, the Terminator 3 trailer does look better. I don't think it will be a masterpiece by any means, but hopefully it won't be too irritating, and I can enjoy the CGI and action scenes. The female terminator does look kind of dopey, but I guess they couldn't think of a good story, so had to take the easy way out and make it a chick. The next one will have a little kid terminator or an animal terminator. Arnie is old and out of shape now, so I bet that scene with his shirt off was done with a lot of CGI help.

    by mgmax

I'm still not convinced that the world needed another Terminator movie, but I have to say, it looks more promising now than it did from the teaser-- the theme of Arnold's cyborg being a hopelessly outclassed underdog is kind of interesting, and making it happen within a short time frame on "judgement day" should at least keep it moving fast.

Plus, it won't have Laurence Fishburne intoning every line of dialogue like he has Laurence Olivier up his ass. There is NOTHING wrong with Matrix 2 that wouldn't be substantially improved by firing Laurence Fishburne and replacing him with Bernie Mac. How come only the pompous black people seem to have survived and made it to Zion? What happened to the funny, jive-ass, I'm gonna Matrix yo mama ones?

As with any sequel... Look first and foremost Cameron has the right to hate this, it was his baby... I mean imagine if it upstaged him? Point is it couldn't even if it is amazing. Look the trailer looks awesome and the fact that Arnold will be going back to being evil could be friggin awesome... Who knows how this will go, keep in mind sequels that come out years after the original DO tend to miss key elements (Hannibal,Phantom Menace)I really hope this one defies the large amount of potholes it could fall into and if it doesnt, write it off... it doesn't cheapen the other two regardless.

    Get Away From Me...NOW!!

    by kamaji

Oh, so just because Cameron did 'Titanic,' that means that he sucks? The man has his own agenda man! Besides, have you even seen the average sequel track record? Most of them are only good for 2 and then it either suffers horrendously, or is turned over to another director. I still like the idea that Cameron chose to end T2 where he did. Just the idea of all these people jumping for joy that Arnold is going to be coming back in a T4 film just doesn't do it for me. From what I've seen of the T3 previews, it does so much more that just irritates me, notably their showing too much of the future wars. Cameron made it a point that the story taking place in the here and now was the important point of the story. But other than that, it seems that the talkbackers here and at other sites only want to 1)see more of the T-X naked, 2)care more for the Terminator films because it's all about blowing stuff up (which the trailers give with an endless orgy of explosive gusto). The stories of Arnold trying to convince Cameron this was a good idea, reminded me of the stories when they sent Anthony Hopkins to convince Jodie Foster to return as Clarice for 'Hannibal.' The ol 'Come on ol' buddy, my career has hit a 5-10 year low, and the only wy I'm going to pay for my new summer home, is to reprise a character that was last seen over a decade ago. Please?' On a final, note I wish they would look at those T2 trailers way back in the early 90's. There wasn't half the numbers of explosions and action cuts in this thing. And is it me, or did the shot in the new trailer of the T-850 grabbing John by the neck signal that he was gonna give him a TerminatorNoogie?

    Sleeper hit of 2003???

    by adamb

Looking at some of the comments here really makes me laugh, sure i can see some points on why people think its gonna suck ass. I mean no James Cameron, Script supposingly awful and mainly it will never surpass T2 which is one of the all time cinema classics.

However i am really looking forward to it as Arnie can do this role in his sleep and forget about his recent turkeys, i think he will bounce back in this.
I like the whole concept of the Terminator storyline and by the looks of things its shaping up to be a pretty good installment.
Sure you can argue points like John Connors age etc but you could do that with most big films, i mean at the end of the matrix Neo can dodge/stop bullets etc so why in reloaded does he have to fight?? surely if hes that powerful he doesnt have to?? zzzz anyway u get my point!!
I am a huge fan of arnies past action films and i just think his presence in this film coupled with a promising looking T-X will make it succeed.
Sure it wont match T2 but it certainly will not suck and could well be the sleeper hit of 2003!!
