The Funky Monkey tells us about Danny Boyle's MILLIONS!

Published at:  Apr 28, 2003 5:33:37 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with a bit of news on Danny Boyle's MILLIONS... no, not the money he raked in during the UK release of 28 DAYS LATER, but rather his next project... a kids film... What is this? Danny Boyle turning all Robert Rodriguez on us? hehehehe... Sounds like a BREWSTER'S MILLIONS for kids... Hmmmm, could be awful.... could be fun. Well, too bad Larry Clark isn't directing this one... heh... God, I can't even imagine what he'd have the kids buying...

Hey everyone.

I've had the BEST Week. been doing film crap all week but the main point of my week was meeting Danny Boyle of Trainspotting, 28 Days Later etc....

This man is completely cool. I had no idea who he was when i first meet him. I was learning a script and he asked how i was getting on. I only found out when he introduced himself.

I knew he was doing a new film (which unfortunately I'm not in. yet), and tried to get as much information as i could from him. Most info came from another source,  a good friend who will be working side by side with Danny.

His next film is called "Millions"      ........... and it's a kids film.

It is based at Christmas time just before the Euro comes to England.

Someone has A LOAD of illegal cash which has to be used before the euro takes over otherwise it will be useless.
It's case of 'anything you want. you can have'.

Want a car? YOU GOT ONE!

Want a Huge Big Ass house? YOU GOT ONE!

House not big enough? YOU GET BUILT ONE!

All main roles are played by kids. Don't know who, but sure I'll be able to get names soon.

James Nesbit is also in it. People from UK will know him as 'Adam' from ITV's award winning comedy- COLD FEET.

They start filming this week in Manchester.

There is a scene outside Selfridges. Don't know when, but you should guess when the store is made up to look like Christmas time.

I am very close to this film, but i have nothing to do with it.
I should be able to get alot more information for all you guys if you want it.

Just call me Funky Monkey

Hopefully it will be in the same vein as Purely Belter. Sounds like it could be fun

Boyle is the most overrated director alive.

    by stackpointer

I can't stand his so-called-films. Danny, find another job, will ya?

    Danny Boyle...

    by alexanderdelarge

I had the incredible opportunity of meeting Mr. Danny Boyle at the Sundance film festival this year and he couldn't have been nicer. He was very kind, and he even asked about my projects and my personal life and expressed interest, and he definately didn't have to. From the looks of this article, it seems Mr. Boyle has the same attitude towards his fans...gives them all a little bit of his time because he knows how much it'll mean to them, and that is something I applaud. If I'm ever successful, I hope I behave like Mr. Boyle, for he is a class act.

    Illegal cash?

    by silvio dante

As in counterfeit or what? From bank robbery or some such? Why the time limit? I believe the policy is that you can use old currency and exchange it long after euro comes along? And kids? What the? Give us more details, dammit!

    Ah, Supertoys...

I was beginning to think I was the only person in Britian who had seen Purely Belter. It was quite good.

    Well, it might work.

    by heleno

I think the illegal cash thing might simply be cash raised from, shall we say, extra-legal things rather than from a robbery or some such. If you tried to change all that dirty money to the new currency, questions would be asked. Hence there was loadsa building work going on all over Europe prior to the Euro coming in, cause it's a really good way to launder illegally obtained cash. Apparently. I think this might be interesting. On the other hand, it might be the Beach. And for my money Purely Belter just wasn't. James Nesbitt, by the way, is all the better for having grown up a couple of miles up the road from me. And that Yellow pages ad with the haircut is actually quite amusing - even on the second or third viewing.

    credibility

    by simon72

I realise that it's a kids movie, but the premise is bollocks. All states which adopted the euro had a transitional period when you could take currency to the bank and exchange it. I like Boyle, and the writer Frank Cottrell Boyce (24hr Party people, Welcome to Sarajevo), just hope this doesn't turn out to be a piece of mindlessly jingoistic "save our pound!" propaganda.

I hope 28 Days Later is as good as it looks.

    by pumpymcass

I don't dig sci-fi too much but 28 Days Later and Proyas' Garage Days (not a sci-fi movie) are probably what I am looking forward to the most this summer. I miss the Boyle of Trainspotting, Shallow Grave. He wasted our time with The Beach and A Life Less Ordinary and it is time for him to return to form. The Euro thing in Millions may make it rise above your average kiddie fare. Perhaps it won't pander to the age group, be sort of Roald Dahl-ish. We shall see...

"Life Less..." is a surreal, gut-funny masterpiece

    by beamish13

This "Millions" project reminds me of Alan Parker's "Bugsy Malone", which had children playing adult roles. It also sounds a bit like that Disney flick "Blank Check". The verdict's still out.

I also met someone famous today...

    by genericgeek

...well, "met" is a stretch. I work a block away from the place where Tony Scott's "Man on Fire" is shooting. Of course, a lot of streets are closed, so during my lunch hour I scouted on foot alternate routes to go home tonight, since I can barely take the car out of the parking lot before I run into the traffic cones. So, I found my new route and was on the way back to work when, in a big park (which is the location) was, I believe, Denzel Washington with some people and two small girls, dressed alike. According to the IMDB, Dakota (I am Sam) Fanning is in the flick, so that must've been her and her stand in, or something. Naturally, I pretended not to notice (because I'm way cool, even though I still live at home), and kept walking. Well, now I made you lose your valuable time with this pointless (yet true) adventure. So, I bid you adieu with a classic: "Denzel Washington has a beer and cheets on Tony Scott".

    28 Days Later sucked...

    by bong

I saw the film....complete trash! It ripped off almost every zombie flick from before and mixed elements with stuff from the book I AM LEGEND. The characters were lame and just plain stupid...they did the dumbest things. I was hoping all of them of them would get munched by the zombies

this infatuation with Robert Rodriguez needs to end

    by beamish13

the "Spy Kids" films sported laughably awful special efx, Knowles-san. If Rodriguez were a true renaissance man, as you and some of your flunkies have stated, Rodriguez would also be apt in metaphysical poetry, fencing, and book-binding, to name a few crafts.
