Guillermo Del Toro clarifies on that CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON info!
Harry here, talked with Guillermo tonight regarding that CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON information that was up on IMDB. All of that information was true... a year ago, when Guillermo gave it to an interviewer for TOTAL FILM magazine in the UK... However, Guillermo tells me that he will not be doing a remake of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. For him, he is more interested in doing adaptations that haven't been iconically driven into the minds of cinema goers. For him, the black & white CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON is the Creature he wants to see for the rest of his life. He doesn't need to see that design altered. He doesn't want remake it any more. He'd rather focus his attentions on a serious live-action WIND AND THE WILLOWS or AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS or his original scripts like THE LEFT HAND OF DARKNESS or MEPHISTO'S BRIDGE, and then there's always the possibilty of another HELLBOY or that COFFIN film with James Cameron's company.
Tonight he told me that the image that is gonna drive us all crazy is a shot he has of HELLBOY holding that big fricking gun straight at us. Just imagine a Rick Baker HELLBOY pointing that gun at you... No CG... All real light and shadow. Hmmm... sounds good eh?

To be honest, all those ideas sound more interesting than the Creature from the Black Lagoon, man in suit or not.

...Chewbacca is back for Episode 3!!!

What, like with blokes dressed up as Ratty, Toad and Badger and stuff? Do me a lemon! Just give us the fcuking Hellboy pic...NOW!!!

Was anyone actually able to sit all the way through Blade 2? It looked great, but was completely unwatchable from a story point of view. I have hopes for Hellboy, but they grow fainter every day.
-
I can't wait to see a CGI Shoggoth. What a brave new world we live in!:)
-
...then you can judge the guy's work more evenly than just by watching one movie of his (I'm talking to everyone who's only seen Blade 2). Besides, remember all the whining that went on when it was announced that Peter Jackson was doing Lord of the Rings?

Ahhhhh, Harry my man, making friends and influencing people. Or maybe that should read people of influence. Anyway, shouldn't a 'live action' Wind in the Willows be like Babe? Or should it be like Hammy the Hamster - you know, the live action rodent TV show I remember as a lad. Bunch of drugged rats with some ADR. Man, that was classic entertainment.

I can't believe you guys! BLADE II FUCKING ROCKED! What more do you want from a superhero vampire movie???

Now someone give him Peter Jackson's phone number so he can talk him out of that dumbass King Kong idea. sk

Hey, if Del Toro doesn't do it, somebody else will snap it up
by terry_1978
You already know Hollywood is searching for a new director upon hearing him say he won't take it on. They know there's a franchise aka cash to be made outta this thing.
-
There already IS a live action Wind in the Willows - I think Terry Jones directed it, with himself as Toad. As kids films go, I suppose it wasn't too bad, but why make another one? What I really want to see is a decent Lovecraft adaptation, it's about time one was done. But if it sucks, then I'll be really pissed off. I too want to see CGI Shoggoths and Elder things.
-
The new, Creature from the Black Lagoon--which I predict will be re-titled Black Lagoon--is still a good idea. There's lots of good sci-fi to make this interesting, but the film-maker can't hold back on the sex and violence, contrasted to Victorian mores. Imagine a scene of the Creature and the heroine making love just at the surface of the water in the Moonlight. Wonderful chthonic imagery. The trick is to keep the Creature's motivations alien; he can't just be protecting himself like an animal. He's got to be more like a 19th Japanese warlord dealing with the American navy.
-
Thanks for the fish concept, Guillermo. Now here's an enhancement: give your Creature facial prosthetics/CGI so that he can look either angelic or devilish depending on his mood. Allow the faces to change color, the way squids do. (Check out how Steven Baxter handles this in Manifold:Space) This exponentiates facial emtions, by the way. My seduction scene would go like this: the heroine (already interested) finds a trail of orchids leading the the trysting place. The Creature puts on his most angelic face, and they go for a swim that changes her life.
Wow, I could riff on this all day. Think I will, but on my own site. -
George Lucas would be THE man to direct it. It just occured to me. He is far superior to Cameron. I mean honestly, Coppola did do a great job casting Keanue Reeves as Jonathan Harker. It was BRILLIANT. Winona Ryder should have gotten an academy award for the depth with which she played Mina. What a phenomenal picture Dracula was. It was so accurate and followed the book too. Just the same, Lucas would have done a superior job! Can you imagine George Lucas Dracula??? Anyway George would do an excellent Creature and Hayden would be awesome in a bathing suit to behold. He is so hot right now.

Then why don't you put forth a list of all your terrorist cohorts. We all now have definitive proof that you've caroused around with these low lifes so fess up. If you aren't doing it, then you know who is. And while you're at it, why don't you devulge how to clone IDs? I'm willing to go out on a limb and believe that maybe this isn't you. Help us uncover the asshole and you'll be on my "cool" list. Please coem to my cool list. Tell me how to clone. Please, please, pretty please. PLEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAASEEEEEE!

This is the second consecutive day I write some shit down for these talkbacks. Look, the reason Guillermo is not doing Creature is probably because Gary Ross is doing a remake. That's right, Gary 'Pleasantville' Ross. His grandfather or somethin' directed or wrote the original and now he's gonna do a remake. You heard it here first boys and gals! Then agian, could be just a rumour. :-)

Harry you fool!!! Did you not hear about the G.I. Joe movie yet?
by terry_1978
Lordy, lordy, lordy.

blade 2 had some corny moments, like the bad CG in front of the bank of lights (note-del toro hates that shot, which he mentions in the dvd commentary) and whistler's "don't die on me now" speech (he really should have grabbed blade and tossed him into the blood without delay). but overall, it was the bomb and all you haters wish you could make such a fine piece of comic book flimmaking. the look of the film was so unique from the original film, without losing one bit of the "feel" of blade. i hope part 3 will have yet another talented director who can take blade to yet another new level, and retain the coolness, just like del toro did.
-
but that just screams man in suit. Wouldn't it be better to ask Pixar or Dreamworks if they're busy and let them do it?
-
seriously, that tight suit showed off not only the zipper but a nice manly figure as well. Any remake better not screw that up. Or forget the suit - get a hot guy with nothing but paint and scales a la Mystique. and also as with the original movies, have the male heroes and extras at Seaworld wear little tiny shorts.

Man, do I want to see that "Mountains Of Madness" adaptation
by god of forkery
But then again, I also want the thousand young of Shub-Niggurath to show up on my front porch in the form of many little girls licking lollipops. THAT . . .would be scary.
-
"Left Hand of Darkness" is not 'original'. That is, if it's based on LeGuin's book.
"Wind in the Willows" is a bit tired and has been done several times (animated and live action). I liked the ideas for a Creature remake -- I'm a sucker for lost cities in the jungle. -
heavy on the ultraviolence and it made the Reapers freakin aliens and Blade just acting badass. it was a McMovie, but above the standard action fare since it was much more kinetic. none of this "hey, I'm a goth which makes me a vampire" shit but "ARGGGGHHHH!! VAMPIRES!! DIE!! BLAM BLAM CHOP KILL BITE MUCH DEATH" sweet.
-
Wind and the Willows??? don't u mean IN, and whats with the giant purple type?
-
Did you see an ad for it in the most recent Wizard? If so, that was just a parody...but the cast they thought up for that thing was extraordinary.

Everyone just quit your bitching already!!!!!!!!!!!! You bastards know you loved Blade II!!!!! It was creepy and awesome at the same time. The idea of havn' fucked up vampires rocked. Like someone said earlier go see Del Toro's other movies. Don't juge him on just Blade II. If anything, hate on the videogame based on the movie. Now that was terrible!!! I think anything from Del Toro will be great. Coffin and Hellboy is going to rock your freakn' asses!!!!!!!! Like I always say you guys bitch now but later when his movie comes out you will pay and sit through his film at the theatre and love IT!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way, Harry swallows.

Del Toro is a hack.

Have none of you fanboys seen this? "Blade II" was merely his journeyman work (having said that, I enjoyed it, certainly more than the first one). To see what del Toros is _really_ capable of, check out "Chronos" or "The Devil's Backbone". He really knows how to create eerie images and atmospheres that crawl into your brain.

What an interesting way to argue... present no argument. I suppose you are of such an enlightened nature that argument is below you. Thanks for all the interesting quotes though.
