AICN Wishes Astro Boy A Belated Birthday!!

Oooooops. We missed this one, so better late than never. I’m going to make this quick, because the sun’s coming up and I want to get some sleep before I have to start working on my other stuff today. I’m glad this letter came in, though, so we could set this straight:



Hi...

You know, with all the stuff you guys have been saying about how great The Animatrix is and Spirited Away is the greatest anime of alll time, you compleatly forgot about the King Of them All.

ASTRO BOY.

Today is the celebration of Astro's birth. Mind you it was the day he was created in the story, but folks are celebrating it in Japan as a major holiday, it seems.

I really don't know if you've seen this, but I decided to scour around online for Astro and I came up with this link which is pretty cool. Mind you, it's in Japanese, and there's no Quicktime, but it shows what I think is part of some new stuff they're doing for the old boy. Plus, it is amazing.

    Yeah happy Birthday Astro Boy. I went to his exhibition in Nihombashi Tokyo today and saw some original hand drawn Tezuka manga pages. Also I saw a full size replica of Astro Boy slowly rising from an inert position and blinking his eyes. Then he lay down again. That was awesome. And the new Astro Boy cartoon is on TV tommorow ! Long live the Mighty Atom ! You know, in our imaginations.

    I wish Astro Boy were born later than he was.

    The headline currently says "AICN Wishes Astro Boy a Belated Birthday". That is just plain stupid. You can't wish that someone's birthday is late. Instead, you can give someone a late happy birthday wish. So, something like "AICN Belatedly Wishes Astro Boy a Happy Birthday" would have made sense.

    Don't know if it's still going, but there's a great exhibition of artwork and whatnot on the creator of Astro Boy in Little Tokyo. It was a hoot.

    Yeah, Astro boy. Right after "The Mighty Hercules" + right before... ah, who gives a rat's ass. What a great show. Does anybody out there know if/when the 80s episodes of Astroboy are coming out on DVD? There have been some problems, or so I've heard. Let me know... if you know. Happy birthday Astro boy. Out.
