Halle Berry set for CATWOMAN
Hey folks, Harry here... Back on January 19th, we told you she was up for the role, well now it is done. Halle Berry will be playing CATWOMAN in the genius French director, PITOF's version of the feline troublemaker.
Now, while many are probably upset about Halle Berry taking over for Michelle Pfeiffer, I actually think it isn't such a bad idea. CATWOMAN has always been a rather difficult character to pin down. I always felt with Ashley Judd, going with another blonde for the part would be demanding direct comparisons to Michelle's performance. Here though, casting Halle Berry... Instantly I'm not thinking about Pfeiffer anymore, but rather...

EARTHA KITT!!!

On December 14th, 1967 Eartha Kitt tore onto screens as Catwoman, the second Catwoman to be precise, in CATWOMAN'S DRESSED TO KILL. At that point she had already been in film for around 19 years. Her voice and sexy demeanor were her keys into the industry. Can anyone really forget that amazing performance of her's in ST LOUIS BLUES... along with Cab Calloway and Nat King Cole? Well, certainly not if you've seen and heard it. However, for all of that, in the eyes of many she was CATWOMAN till Michelle Pfeiffer took it away... Though in my heart, no matter what, Julie Newmar will always be CATWOMAN!

this will be bad....really really bad.....doesnt matter who plays catwoman...this will be tripe

Eartha Kitt was great (although for me her career highlight is her incomparable version of "Santa Baby") but Halle has yet to convince me she has the charisma for it. And they had better come up with a scene as memorable as Michelle flip-flopping out of that department store, stopping in front of Batty and the Penguin and saying "Miaow" just as the store explodes behind her. We need a decent female superhero movie, but I'm just not sure this is it. It's been too long since Supergirl! tee hee.

...and all I get are pictures of Eartha Kitt? Fuck this Harry! Er, I mean, Eartha Kitt is hot, Harry...give us more Eartha Kitt photos, Harry...how would you like your breakfast, Harry?...I got you a pwesent, Harry...

That Eartha Kitt is also a euphemism/rhyming slang for taking a big dump. Not being a Comic book geek (except 200AD), can somone answer me this, is there a Catwoman picture worth making with no Batman in it?
-
Comic book movies are gonna get a huge backlash pretty soon anyways. All the studios are going for is big stars now and thats defantly the wrong approach. What they should be doing is going for actors who look and can act the part.
I just hope when everything is said and done we have jackie chan as batman, davis spade as green arrow,FP jr as green lantern and hally berry as wonder women.
When that happens we know comic book movies will be at an all time low.Anyone who wins the oscar for doing porno scene doesnt need to be doing superhero movies. What next jenna jameson as sue storm? -
Halle Berry should be doing TV movies. Earth Kitt is a man. Julie Newmar rules. This film will suck.
-
Well said, Son of Batboy!!! LOL!!!

..she is gonna look SO good in that skin-tight vinyl suit, mmmm yummy.

Lee Merriweather (sp?), who played the role in the Adam West Batman movie. Eartha Kitt was in fact the THIRD Catwoman. Just the facts, Harry, just the facts.

I feel pity for all the creators at DC who have carried on the story of Catwoman through her appearances in Batman and her own mini series. Because to be quite honest WB are laughing at you and the fans and all this rush because Ratner can't deliver the goods on the doomed Superman Film. WB have proved they care nothing for DC's characters, there history or the fans.

Halle Berry ruined Die Another Day for me. It's not like it was a masterpiece in the first place, but her stilted action scenes and attempts at being a tough girl were laughable. I thought her terrible performance of Storm in X-Men was a fluke, but now I know the truth. HALLE BERRY CANNOT DO ACTION. She should stick to crying drama movies because she will ruin X2 for me and I am not even going to bother with Catwoman if she's playing it.
-
Don't you people go ripping on a sister from Cleveland. There are more Ohioans out there than you realize. And we will strike you down if you go after one of our own... Besides, guys. CATWOMAN is not Shakespeare. This movie is all about the jigglin' jumblies. And my, does Halle have the nice jiggly-parts...
-
Wow! This is great news! And by great, I mean "news that makes me want to vommit out of my eye sockets". What the hell are these mongaloid retard producers in hollywood doing? I guess I can see past Halle not resembling the DC Catwoman whatsoever, since she's not playing Selena Kyle, but there lies the question... WHY THE FUCK IS CATWOMAN NOT SELINA KYLE?! Excuse me, Mr. Hollywood scriptwriter and producer, but, did you create Catwoman? Did you create Batman? I didn't think so. So why do you feel the need to "adjust" their mythology to your convoluted liking? Did their true origination not seem creative enough to you? This is like saying you're going to make a movie about Jesus, but instead of calling him "Jesus", you're going to call him "Skippy", and instead of living in Bethlehem, he's going to live in "Moosejaw, Alberta". Instead of being a savior, he's going to be a tractor repairman. If you have a hard time calling that description "Jesus: the movie", then how can you call this current script: "Catwoman"? Call it "the funny lady who dresses like a kitty" or something. Why can't scripts *supposedly* based off comic books actually fuckin' RESEMBLE the comic books? Cripes, this shit pisses me off! I didn't read Detective Comics for 12 years for no reason! Get it right!!
-
Wow, Im impress with Berry getting this role. Hale has proven herself to be a great actress. Im not so much concern with how she is going to do because she is a good actress, im more concern about the scrpit. I just hope they stay true to the comic book in some respect. I hope they dont go to far left . All you Halle haters need to stop and check yourself!!! I have Faith in Berry's ability as an actress.
-
What is it with Hollywood lately. I'm no racist but goddammit if a character's written a certain way, and fuck Kitt, Catwoman was white for as long as I can remember, then keep her that way. It's got nothing to do with segregation either it's all to do with fidelity to character. Why not have Kidman play her, or was she not happy with the script? I handles Duncan as Kingpin because there was a certain fidelity in terms of the sheer size. But Halle Berry as Catwoman. Give me a fucking break. Harry, you say, a white woman would bring comparisons to Michelle, and yet you mention nothing about Berry insulting her performance by giving a shit one of her own. The woman cannot do superheroics. She was goddawful as Storm in X-Men and don't give me that shit about her having no part, she was wooden, face it. This is the worst news I've heard all day. I was pulling for Ashley Judd- she has that feline sexiness down pat, whereas Berry just has a pair of tits. No real sexiness. This blows.
-
right?
-
She is a talented actress, but she is moving backwards in her career, and Catwoman is not even based on Selina Kyle. Look at Cuba Gooding Jr. He is a freakin' academy award winner, and now he is doing stupid slap stick comedies. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Plus, this movie will never get made. Look how long Ashley Judd had the role until she turned it down. It was 2 years and the movie has been proposed since 1992. Wouldn't that give Halle Berry some sort of clue.
-
...black or white. If Storm was cast as a blue-eyed, blond white girl, people like you would have had Johnny Cocharen, Don King, Jesse Jackson, and the ghosts of MLK Jr. and Malcom X storming Hollywood ("storming" - ha). So quit you're damn whining.

Dear DC - This is one "comic book" movie I *may* watch on cable.
by damitol
Just for the record, I've seen virtually all of the other comic book films on the big screen and own my fair share on DVD, but this one I will pass on. Halle Berry? Yes she is very beautiful and will look great in the suit - but did anyone of you see X-Men? Remember Storm? Remember "Do you know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning?". *THAT* was Halle. No, seriously - that was her - she was just wearing a white wig. She was the weakest link in an otherwise fine ensemble cast. To be fair, I haven't seen her Oscar winning performance in Monster's Ball yet, but the best thing they could find to say about her performance in Swordfish
-
She is hot as shit, but she is fucking retarded, she is not a good actress, the only reason she won the gold dude was because she started showin t&a!
-
Eartha Kitt was a great catwoman. THe role is not about colour, but it is about doing it sensibly with someone who can actually play the part. If that's Halle, great. Kingpin was well cast for my money, and a fine example of a character's race being changed for a good reason - name me one white actor out there as physical and suitable for that role as Michael Clarke Duncan was. None? Right, there you have a good reason to change his race. Anyway, I doubt it will ever get made. How many projects is Halle currently name-checked for? Like, a dozen? And if the script is as dire as everyone seems to think, it's even less likely to get anywhere. And for the record, some of you fanboys cross the line from desperate to creepy on a regular basis in these talkbacks and it freaks me out. Consider for a moment that any issues you have with women might have less to do with them and more to do with your addiction to porn and complete and utter objectification of women. Just a thought...
-
Now hold on, boys! They haven't even sewed the costume yet and many of you are blubbering!!!! Please remember the prime rule of engagement for the Catwoman...she's a feline femme fatale. All of the ladies who have portrayed her in the past have captured that PURRFECT quality. I think Ms. Barry will be able to manage the same. Boobs, et al.

From her bitching about being "reduced" to play an X-Man (reduced, yeah, that's right) from her self-indulgent speech at the Oscars (crying - "DON'T CUT ME OFF, YOU STUPID BAND MAN, WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS AWARD FOR 30 YEARSSSSSSSS!!!!" like her win was some sort of big civil rights freakin issue) to her completely whoring herself out for Swordfish on the MTV movie awards. ("Wanna see my tits! Gotta pay for THIS THANG!!") I despise this woman and she sucks the tallent out of a scene. I refuse to see this movie, buy any products, or brake if I see Hallie Berry crossing the street. F-u you stupid bitch.

I have always compared Hollywood making superhero movies (especially this one) to making a film about Goldilocks and the 3 Bears with chickens.
-
This film will never happen. Berry is wrong for the part but the reasons have nothing to do with her ethnicity (anyone ever realise that Selina Kyle of comics had a latina mother? They revealed that in the latter issues of volume 1 of her solo series) but more about her presence. She is wrong for Storm for the same reason. I'd rather have seen Virginia Hey (Zhaan of Farscape) as Ororo than Halle, skin color be damned. Judd could have pulled it off. Kidman, less likely. Gina Gershon, probably. But geek gods willing, this movie will take a long deserved dirtnap.

Just thought I'd point that out.

Is where I'll probably first see this movie.

you're right. There IS no one sexier than Julie Newmar as catwoman. But for me, I see Charisma Carpenter playing her as long as she grows her beautiful dark hair back.
-
...indeed. Ah, Halle Berry in a Catsuit. Sheer perfection. Another worthy candidate would be Penelope Cruz.
-
I've read rest of the article now, and I've seen the accompanying pictures....first off, Kitt was the THIRD Catwoman. Lee Meriwether took over the role for the movie because the definitive Catwoman, the goddess Julie Newmar was filming Mackenna's Gold with Gregory Peck. (Jeez, Harry.....impatient sigh. Now then, my real worry...sit yourself down, Master Knowles. Am I to understand that you collect Barbie Catwoman dolls...worse...you photograph them ? This is pretty damn Waylon Smithers of you. Rest assured, I am raising an eyebrow in your direction, young man ! You needn't squirm in embarrassement there, you know I'm right !!!!
-
It was inevitable that this talkback would veer into race-baiting waters...big surprise there. But some folks just REALLY have the most myopic views when it comes to these issues of casting actors against the ethnicity of so-called "established" characters. To DannyOcean01 and Despicable, you gotta take off those blinders, fellas. Of course there would be an uproar if Storm were cast as a blue-eyed blonde when the character was written as an "African Goddess." Just as I'd hope that people would scoff at a black Sunfire, an Irish Sunspot, or a Chinese Banshee. What you're forgetting is that those "ethnic" characters, who are few and far between in the Marvel and DC universes, were created specifically to fill that gap, to represent the "other." What's the harm in casting a person of color to portray one of the thousands of characters whose "whiteness" was a given and not necessarily part of their characterization? When did you ever read about Batman's woes about being a white man in America? Or Catwoman's strife as a white girl bounding across rooftops? The most legitimate argument about against-type casting I've heard in this talkback was someone's issue about Kingpin orginally representing the 60's archetype of "The Man" in the comics therefore making Michael Clarke Duncan's casting somewhat ironic. And in some cases the performance outshines the odd casting. Does anyone remember that Morgan Freeman's character in The Shawshank Redemption was a red-headed Irishman? Don't think so. And Ernie McCracken, you should pull back the reins before you talk about what black people are gonna do and when. Since when were you the spokesman? Sucka.
-
would be a great choice. She exudes catwoman-ness without even doing anything. just sitting around the living room making cat noises would fire up all our special regions....
-
why some people have to make everything into a race issue. i mean, people arent allowed to have negative opinions on peoples acting or whatever anymore just because theyre BLACK? that doesnt seem fair. personally, i like halle berry (although everytime i think of her i think of that chick she played in the flintstones movie). the only thing i didnt like about storm was the fact that she couldnt fight worth shit. other than that i think storm kicked ass (although she wasnt my favorite character). it seems like she would be ok to play catwoman (although this movie or whatever sounds like its gonna suck ass). and i saw thats omeone said for the superman movie or whatever that krypton wasnt gonna be blown up? if thats true, then why the fuck are they even botherin to make a superman movie? i mean, what would be the point of superman even coming to earth if he didnt HAVE to? it just makes NO SENSE!!!!!!
-
The racism issue is silly. Folks, comic books are a VISUAL medium. When we sit around and fantasy cast any comic book flick, the first thing that comes to people's mind is who LOOKS like the character. Remember back in 1989 most of the issues with Michael Keaton was not his acting ability, but the fact that he did not look like what many fans thought Batman should look like. The issue over a performer's skin color in a comic book movie should be taken with the same grain of salt(or pepper, if you prefer) one takes when someone goes off on organic webshooters, on the black rubber costume with nipples installed.
-
I thought Michael Clark Duncan was an excellent choice for Kingpin. When I heard he was cast, i thought "cool". I knew he could handle the role, and he did for what amount there was for him to take. He had too little screentime to make the ending as anti-climatic as it was. but Halle Barry as Catwoman? Yeah, she looks great, no arguements, but I don't think she could play the character. To me, Catwoman's gotta have "the eyes" no matter what the skin tone is. For a while, I always thought of Catherine Zeta Jones, just because of the eyes (yeah, she looks great too) but now I figure she's getting older. If this should be a franchise, they should go with someone younger. I still think Charisma Carpenter would be a great Catwoman. She has the Body, The Eyes, and she can act sexy...although i've seen her play a bitch too well.
-
I haven't watched batman since I was a kid, but I sure remember Eartha Kitt. That and Cesar Romero, but mostly because it was very obvious that they had painted white over his mustache and I thought it looked funny.

As soon as someone saw the post "Halle Berry set for Catwoman" we all knew that someone would say something negative about the role being offered to a Black. Are people on this site racist? Sure. I think we all are. Do most of those people hide their racism by saying things like, "well, I just don't think she fits the part" or "I just don't think she can do action movies"? Probably. Do most of the people who enter this site have a Black "friend" whom they take out to dinner every now and then so that they can peer into his or her Blackness and study the true nature of the Heart of Darkness that both fascinates and frightens them like only the Boogie man could in their younger days. Absolutely. Why is that such a bad thing? Freedom of Speech right? Let people say everything their little Id can conjure up!

I don't want to die another day, I want to die today
by moriarity report
Why the hell did they cast Halle Berry in this role? If someone can give me one good reason why then I'll give you a dollar. And no its not for the jiggle factor because Berry has implants so they don't even jiggle. She's not a beautiful woman, sorry, although ten years ago she was. And I always say how I disliked Michelle Pfiefer in the role as well, although again, if she had played it ten years earlier I might have felt different. And oh yeah, I never said I disagreed with Dunkin playing Kingpin. Obviously the Kingpin needs to be very big and there are very few very large actors in Hollywood who have any name recognition at all, so actually that wasn't bad type casting. But ofcourse Ill probably be called racist anyway for disagreeing with Berry in this role because that's how liberals operate. I repeat there is NO good reason why Berry should have been cast in this role. She's not an action star. She's not charismatic IMO and sorry to say, she doesn't fit the very well known physical depection of Catwoman. And yes, she DID ruin Die Another Day. Actually her and Brosnan ruined it but Brosnan is Bond for the moment and I accept that and I thought the film could have worked despite him. And many aspects of the film did work, so why they had to team Brosnan up with someone with as little charisma as Berry has, I do not know. Oh yeah, its because she has an Oscar. This as almost as bad as Alicica Silverstone as Batgirl, although if you criticize this casting then you're an evil racist. But this goes beyond that, I think they really cast her for the same reasons they cast Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft, because she is a so called respected actress. This is one of Hollywoods cheif problems though, just because someone can be good in a movie like Girl Interrupted or Monster's Ball, playing miserbale characters in miserable situations, DOES NOT mean they'll be good in high spirited action adventure superhero movies. This is also what a lot of fanboys don't seem to understand. They want some great actor to play Superman but you don't need that. We're going to wind up with someone miscast like Jolie and Berry if that's what you want. Harry was right in saying they need to find some unkown athlete to portray Superman. But I'm afraid we'll get someone well known and totally miscast becasue someone thinks they are a great actor, which maybe they are. But its a superhero film! Ugh.
-
Was, and always will be julie Newmar! And she still looks amazing for her age. when I was a kid, I'd rush home from school to catch reruns of the Batman series, hoping for one of two things: The opening animated credits would have Batgirl swinging in on the Batrope to kick a bad guy on the chin, meaning Yvonne Craig would be in the episode, or a CatWoman episode with julie Newmar. It always pissed me off when Eartha Kitt was on. Nothing against her or her talent, she just didn't do to my prepubescent brain what Julie and her curves did. I thought Phiefer was the best part of Batman Returns though. Now, if you're gonna' throw names out, I'd like to see Charlize Theron's legs in that catsuit. And if they're gonna' use that dumb "non-Selina Kyle" script, I think Eliza Dushku would work as the younger Patience Price / CatWoman. Of course she is supposed to be a thief, so why not cast Winona Ryder? I guess Sean Young will be raising Hell any day now too.
-
Halle is all wrong for Storm. Less so for Catwoman. Look I'm not being racist here. She is a very beautiful woman, but not strong enough to play a typical superheroine. Storm should have been played by a younger version of Grace Jones. + Halle Berry made me wanna cry in Monster's Ball because she is so damned beautiful in every way. But Monster's Ball was not a very good movie. For one thing, it exploited the female body (Halle and the suspiciously model-like town whore) while forcing us to look at pasty, flabby Billy Bob Thornton. And the ending was ridiculous. After each of them each beating their own child on a regular basis, they're not gonna beat each other? After years of racism Billy Bob just puts it all behind him for Halle? 'Scuse me, but you're gonna need more than plastic spoons and cheap ice cream to smooth that relationship over.

If the script is even halfway decent this could all work out.
by psyclops
I've seen Pitof's work and I'm sure he'll make an interesting movie... and as long as Halle doesn't ham it up too much the movie should be fine. At the very least it'll be a fun distraction until Chris Nolan delivers a truly ass kicking Batman movie.
-
Y'know, if they want to cast someone reminiscent of the Eartha Kitt Catwoman, my suggestion would be Chris Tucker. They sound similar, both have that kind of tough-stringy look about them, and he's already got that black catsuit he wore in the Fifth Element.
(Ooh......Milla in black vinyl...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....) -
this movie will suck. Halle Berry cannot do action movies. She was great in Dorothy Dandridge and I actually liked Executive Decision, but other than that. . . nada. Plus I am still mad that she screwed Nicole out of an Oscar, but that's a whoooole other TB. Eartha Kitt was a great Catwoman because she brought a campy, over-the-top sense to the role. But we could tell that it was done intentionally - we were in on the joke. With Halle, she will surley take herself too seriously (now that she's an Oscar winner bleh), thus leading to atrocious acting (Storm I'm looking in your direction). On a side note. . . a comic geek friend of mine told me that the origional Catwoman was Latino? True?
-
Eartha, honey. Mm, mm, mm. I love the way you sing to me every Xmas... As for Berry, I dunno, in Bulworth she was definitely tightening my pants, and I thought she did a great acting job. But later I saw Swordfish (hey, it was on HBO every 4 hours). With all that sick hype about her Flash for Cash coming back to me. Not just another shitty movie she could sleepwalk through (along with everyone else), but The Big Controversial Topless scene when it finally popped up non sequitur-like, just came off so blah, mercenary, unnecessary, perfunctory and unsexy... Man, I felt a little queasy after. It was about as much of a turn-on as any HBO "Hookers at the Point" documentary. Ever since, I just can't find the sex appeal there. She just don't raise the tentpole. I'm sure in person she'd dazzle my pantsuit right off (if she wasn't fleeing the scene of our car accident), but on screen, guh. I see only the paid employee. There's plenty of other beautiful women, black and white, to fit her bill. Perhaps it's time for the casting director's to make the shift from "We want Halle Berry!" to "We want a Halle Berry type!"
-

Is it me or are the pictures of the cat woman dolls a little creepy in an odd fetish site sort of way?

This is a very pleasing departure from Michelle Pfiffer. The character demands sultriness which Halle Berry has plenty of. She exhibits it in her outward appearance and her acting. I think Halle Berry is the PERFECT choice for Catwoman. KUDOS to the studios for casting her.
It is really disappointing to read all of the negative feedback on this casting choice, because it seems that mostly everyone is content with having white women in all of the mainstream leading woman roles.
For those who are bashing Halle Berry as an actress and as a person, i really question the underlying reasons you have for voicing such negativity. -
Maybe I'll be seeing this after all...OK, I admit it, I have a crush on Halle Berry! There, I said it....
-
that's stupid. they're cashing in on this superhero crap, so they're just going down the list of recognizable names. halle berry sucks. not her boobs, her boobs rule, but as a person, she's a moron.
-
take your kneejerk racial slur detector and shove it up your ass. Go back and have a look at the post of mine that you say implies i am a racist......you will, if you have something more than mush for brains, notice that i said...that this movie will be really bad no matter who plays Catwoman. Somehow you decided that my words translated to "this will suck because a black woman will be playing Catwoman." Who are you?...Ashcroft in disguise?....keeping tabs on us?...if so for god sake, get it right.....there was absolutely nothing racist about my post....it was directed at the fact that the Batman franchise and all its live action spin offs are for me....dead....the first movie great....second movie...ok...after that, my god....why did they subject us to that hell? Simply put....like Star Trek...they need to put the live action stuff of the shelf for another 15 years and try again....but do it with batman Beyond or something.....god knows Birds of Prey went over smashingly.....And by the way...I' dont think Halle is that good an actress....i didnt see her oscar performance...so maybe i am not a good judge...but damn is she gorgeous...i would take her to bed any day. So if that makes me a racist in your book....by all means enjoy..... by the way....i have friends of just about every racial background...I dont discriminate on color, creed, gender or sexual preference...i am however very much selective on the issue of behavior....white trash being the most offensive...so take your claims that i am a racist and shove them up your ass.
-
...I'm not a racist person. Honestly. But it's fucking true: If Storm had been portrayed by a white, blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman, ALL the minority factions would be up in arms! Let's cast Sean Connery as Shaft. Zorro? Why, who better than Ralph Fiennes? I remember back when there was some damned rumor going on about how Cuba Gooding Jr. was in the running for James Bond after Brosnan. I mentioned this to my friend Alex, who's black himself, and he even said "What the hell? He's black?" So that being said...yeah. Certain parts require specific RACIAL casting. James Bond? Established as a white, middle aged male. I don't even want to start up the whole Kingpin / Micheal Clark Duncan debate. His casting was brilliance. Halle Berry is totally wrong for this part. Personally, she's wrong for Storm, too, but that goes without saying. Personally - Bridget Fonda, Angie Harmon, Catherine Zeta Jones, Monica Bellucci, Charlize Theron and Julie Bowen would all make for very, very appealing eye-candy in ludicrously-skin-tight black leather, but...now that I think about it...Rachel Weisz, Bridget Moynahan, Connie Nielsen & Izzabella Scorupco would be especially spank-worthy in the role. And Hiliray Duff for Spoiler, even though the character is totally unrelated to the current topic.
-
...Halle Berry is amazingly hot! I'd shag every which way but loose! But damn if she ain't one of the shittiest actresses to hack her way out of Hollywood in ages. The only reason she deserved her Oscar was simply for allowing Billy Bob to fuck her doggystyle, albeit make believe. But still...it's Billy Bob. No woman should have to pretend being done doggy style by him! Well...maybe Anna Nicole Smith...
-
Halle Berry. Unbelievable. What a wretched actress. Not even hot in my opinion. Saggy tits and grow out your damn hair dude! Salma Hayek, Kate Winslet, DEBI MAZAR, Charlize Theron, Charisma Carpenter, RACHEL WEISZ, Michael Michele, ELIZA DUSHKU, THANDIE NEWTON, Rose McGowan, Mary-Louise Parker, Joey Lauren Adams... all far better choices for Catwoman. They're all sexy and have tons of talent. At first I was pissed at Ashley Judd for passing on the role but she must have sensed something shitty. Besides, with dick-nosed, nasal voiced owen wilson as the male lead, it sounds like garbage anyway. What could have been a cool flick now sounds horrible and I wish nothing but failure for all involved with this movie.

by sith lord sauron
And I get to lick it off. Yeah I know--I'm objectifying her. Sorry. But Halle Berry is a goddess. Sure she's ditzy sometimes and occaisonally says dumb things; so did Marilyn Monroe. That said, I think this movie is a mistake, not because Halle is (oh-so-fine) brown sugar but because the script sounds like ass. This thing is clearly being made only to cash in on the recent superhero movie boom. It's as ill-conceived as WB's hellish abortion of a Superman movie will be. Don't do it, Halle, you're better than this.
-
..that is, before she started pushing out pups, now her ass looks like a fuckin X-tra large pork roast covered in cottage cheese. No way she could pull off Catwoman.
-
on a serious tip...
-
I personally think that this movie will be the bomb that Batman and Robin was. To me, it doesn't matter that Halle is an award winning actress.......it doesn't matter if she's black or white.......what DOES matter is that this has nothing to do with the real Catwoman, the one and only Catwoman, Selina Kyle. Just another reason why DC will never match the success of the Marvel movie franchises. What's next, Billy Batson is the new Batman?
And even though she's about 70, seeing Julie Newmar in the recent Batman TV reunion movie just confirms that she will always be the best Catwoman! That purr still melts my utility belt! -

It's gonna blow chunks. Tim Burton should be the only one allowed even within 100 yards of any Batman related Director's Chair.
Fuck other Batman directors (you know who I'm talking about). Fuck them up their stupid asses. -
Yes, Julie Newmar is the ultimate Catwoman. But almost every episode of the 60s Batman has at least one nice piece of total eye candy. But the thing about the Newmar Catwoman is that she fit the bill so completely of what guys like: She was sweet, nasty, exotic, had a girl-next-door look, strong, weak, smart, and so on... The best thing about her was the fact she was pining over a Batman with the body of Adam West... If HE can have such a luscious woman wanting him, there is hope for me and my manboobed self.

I'm glad they're taking a multi-cultural approach to the classic
by frankdrebin
When DC created their classic characters in the '40's and Marvel in the '60's, the books were BY white guys, ABOUT white guys, FOR white guys. The books were set in New York City (or versions of it), the most diverse city on earth, but had casts that were plain vanilla. I don't see why we can't correct that limitation now...... Sort of on the topic, Stan Lee mentioned on the X-Men 1.5 DVD that they were created as a metaphor for racial prejudice. Apparently, he couldn't have used actual black characters at the time. Maybe there was pressure from the publishers, or maybe the writers just didn't feel qualified to attempt a minority viewpoint, but it wasn't until the mid and late '60's that a few non-white characters began to appear (the FF added the Black Panther and Wyatt Wingfoot, Spidey added Robbie Robertson and The Prowler). Eventually they realized, for the books to look at all like the real world, the casts had to get more inclusive...... So, anyway, if you want to complain about Halle Berry's lack of talent, you got my support. But, if you want to complain about a black Catwoman, you don't.

...I hear Pitof is directing. Dope. I loved VIDOCQ. Thought it was great. I'm loving the latest spate of hybrid genre ala Brotherhood of the Wolf and Vidocq.........Halle Berry? mmmmmmm, not such a big fan, but no matter what this one is going to look great. Pitof's directorial/visual style is made for comicbook and fantasy. M
-
I mean, this is a re-imagined character after all. Why not someone new to re-invent it. But, whether Halle plays the new Catwoman, or the Selina Kyle Catwoman, makes no nevermind to me. My question is, why the fuck are you even changing these character's to begin with? Look at the new Superman. Sure the names are the same, (Clark, Lois, Lex) but it's Superman in name only, not spirit. And don't think they won't change Batman next. Spiderman may not have been 100% like the comic, but not one time in the theater did I ever think, "this just dosn't feel like Spiderman." I didn't even have a problem with the Organic Webshooter's like most people. Going from mechanical to organic didn't change the character that much, if at all. Now if he was shooting web's out of his ass, or flying around shooting energy bolts at bad guys,(remember that Spiderman?), then I can see being pissed. Warner Bros. need to take a lesson from Marvel when they made that Captain Marvel/Spiderman. Remember the shitstorm that caused, because they completely reinvented the character. I remember reading the hate mail from fan's in the comic about how much they hated the new Spiderman. Ring a bell WB. Then Marvel said that the new power's were only temporary to begin with. Yeah, sure they were. Cast whoever the fuck you want to, just don't re-write history, alittle change here and there is acceptable, just not a fucking new one.

For The Love Of GOD Halle, DO NOT DO IT!!!!! Oh Halle, Sweet Sw
by the founder
Halle, Halle, Halle please consider your projects carefully. being a black in Hollywood means you don't get 2nd chances when a film bombs, unless you got enough films that have been succesful. Halle sweet halle, do not put faith in WB, they will ruin you. poor Halle has no idea about the backstory of Catwoman, and that she is Selina Kyle. Warners is trying to create small successful properties like Blade, or Daredevil. This Catwoman fliock will not have a big budget, it'll probably be 50-70 tops, but WB's track record is god awful. A lot of these white fanboys are against most black actors being in their fantasy movies. Just don't do it Halle.
-
Beautiful and talented as the delightful Halle is, having her play another comics character is wrong. She's becoming very overexposed and thus the source material would be largely ignored in favour of playing up to her image. Well, that;'s the initial feeling I get. I can't see her as Catwoman for some reason- Hell, I'd love to see her in the suit (who wouldn't?) but I can't imagine her having the 'Miaow' factor. I hope I'm proven very wrong, 'coz I'd absolutely love to see it work.
-
There was a revival tv series in the (I think early)nineties that "updated" the original series. Called "The Munsters Today", it had John Schuck as Herman Munster and Lee Meriwether as Lily. Thankfully, it didn't last too long.
-
Thandie Newton as catwoman? Inspired! She has the eyes, the bod, the charisma and the ability to pull it off. And the shape of her lovely face- wouldn't that look deliscious in the catwoman mask???? great choice.
-
I haven't seen so much incoherent vile and pathetic attempts at sincerity...who cares whether or not you go to the theatres to see Halle; I'm sure the world despises you...and if the cash cows shower her with box office gold, I'm sure she won't give a flying fuck about your insane jibba jabba. Yes, she still desires to challenge herself to dramatic roles that stretch her acting credentials and skills, but in the meantime kiss her beautiful ass as she takes a whack at pop culture, one pussycat at a time. There's no shortage of Oscar-winners and nominees kicking pop culture's ass: Jack Nicholson, Angelina Jolie, Ben Affleck, etc.
-
is the real reason not to go see the film. I used to go see a film a week but with all the idiotic anti-american sentiment coming out of hollywood you have to screen who is involved with these things.
-
It will be a bold imagining to have BatMAN played by a WOMAN and WASP playboy Bruce Wayne to be portrayed by a nubian goddess. Don't like my idea? Then go to sensitivity training. You are obviously racist, sexist and homophobe.
-
Who gives a shit? Halle Berry is a bad actress, IMHO. And her BS Oscar speech last year had me reaching for the remote faster than lorenzo lamas... she won because she's black, that fucker. And she's not even that black, she's like half at the most. I'm blacker than that. She's whiter than Wonder Bread. By the way, I love all races, these are just comments.

Robbie Coltrane would have been much better.

Halle...what are you doing???? You are quickly becoming the joke of the month. Please pull out of this. You already have Jinx, and X-men. You do not need any more super heros on your repetoire! Pull out immediately! Catwomen is just a mediocre character, but is only really great for someone that has not done a lot of other superhero type jobs. You have already been there and done it. I want to see you in more dramatic roles, more comedies...not this silly children's stuff. I am sad that your handlers are making you into a joke. All about money, not about quality. And not thinking about your future projects.
-
she comes off as a snob every time I see her interviewed. What started it was her saying she was "reduced" to playing "a comic book character" when she just gladly took the freakin paycheck and counted money in one hand while drying tears about being "reduced to a comic book character" in the other. You know, taking a role just for the paycheck as John Travolta, Sally Field and Harrison Ford. So, yeah she's a hypocrite too and ever since then every time I see her she gets more annoying each time. Its not because she's black (ie. I thought MCD was cool casting and kicked ass in DD) its just that I really dispise her.
-
I believe God Himself would confirm.
-
THANK YOU. That's what I'm talking about. You're whole pot summed up what I was thinking.

Halle Berry IS NOT black! She's half white (mom), half black (dad). And the white part is the good part - dad beat mom then abandoned the family. And Sejin is right. Halle has no talent for action. I liked her a lot in Swordfish and Monsters Ball but she was sad in Die Another Day trying to throw punches and kicks.

Have you noticed that no matter what casting decision comes up..
by st.buggering
...somebody here will suggest a "Buffy" castmember? I haven't seen this kind of fannish loonism since the original Trekkie movement.
-
Which means I may be a pedophile, but I'm no racist like you guys. Racism is the worst thing on the planet. Even worse than pedophilia.
-
Have I missed something? Those who complain that Berry has been cast because of her colour (not because they are racist natch but because of 'fidelity' to the source or some such other balls) seem to have forgotton that the Catwoman of this new film will *not* be Selina Kyle (of the comics?) but some completely new character. So she can be any colour the scriptwriters like.
-
"and the "Green-Lantern-sucks-in-Justice-League" gripes just goes to show how some people will hide their prejudices"
No, the Green Lantern on the JA show is simply completely out of keeping with the rest of the JLA members. He is sullen and angry and frankly boring. GL should be Hal Jordan, test pilot by day, or one of the later incarnations. It has nothing to do with skin color. This guy simply is not GL in any way, shape or form. I am in the process of reading Jeffrey Deaver's STONE MONKEY, featuring criminologist Lincoln Rhyme. He is not described as black, but in fact Denzel Washington played the character in BONE COLLECTOR and was absolutely fabulous in the role -- even though the character in the book may not in fact be black. Who cares? It's the quality of the performance, not the color of the character's skin. Blame the JLA creators for making GL an angry, overbearing and boring black man. Talk about a stereotype! -
Halle is half white and half black, and the white part is the good part???? some of you here are worse then the monkeys that are running the WB, and it takes a lot to top them in my book. I won't even go any firther into that comment, because then i'll be just as pathetic as you for even wating time to type something so ignorant.
-
I have plenty of pride, and nor am I like Michael Jackson, who have let white society in this country make you feel less then human because you're black. If you believe that blacks have no pride then you're a fool who has fallen victim just has MJ have, and so have them guys in that so called chat room(what loser actually goes to a chat room to meet women, and more then likly pretend their something else?). You preach with hollow words with your view of blacks, do not presume to speak for me and many others out there. If you're weak minded to fall for racial propaganda then you deserve what ever comes your way.
-
after being a mutant in X-Men, a Bond girl in Die Another Day, and now 'superhero' whos only purpose is to give erections in Catwoman, is there any doubt whatsoever that Halle Berry did not deserve to have the word 'Oscar' used in the same sentence as her. each and every performance of hers that i have seen has been decent at best, (with her acting in X-men being downright bad)
-
That ho is played the fuck out. I don't think Eartha Kitt should play Catwoman. It should be someone younger. And white.
-
I burn myself on purpose. Sometimes. I deserve it tho
-
I hate myself.
-
What is underneath the dolls clothes?
-
i've only read a few batman comics so i'm not an expert but isn't Cat Woman supposed to be white??? shouldn't they cast someone like cameron diaz....
-
played Lily Munster. I think that was Yvonne De Carlo.
-
ummm...you do know that that Black GL in the JL cartoon is an actual comic character don't you? It's a totally different situation. They didn't take Hal Jordan and make him black and they didn't just make up a black character fro the show just for the sake of having one.
Hell he's even the current GL for the JLA right now in the comics. -
You wouldn't make a historically accurate movie with a black Ishmael, so you wouldn't make Superman black. You wouldn't make a Black Lightning movie and make him white. You wouldn't make a Roots movie with white slaves. You wouldn't make a movie about Davy Crockett and make him black. You wouldn't make a Catwoman movie and worry about what race she is. Here's a big news flash: CATWOMAN HAS BEEN BOTH BLACK AND WHITE. She was white originally, in the comics. She was played by both a white and a black actress in the campy TV show. She was black in Frank Miller's Batman: Year One. Even now in the comics she's kind of Asian. My problem with DAREDEVIL wasn't the fact that Kingpin was played by a black man. My problem: it was a shitty movie. Not because Kingpin was black. But making Superman black is just stupid. Nobody, including black people, wants to see a black Superman. Jon Stewart is a KICK ASS Green Lantern. He's WAY better than Kyle Rainer. GL isn't a big senstitive pussy. He's an inter-galactic cop. Besides, if you want a black actress to play Catwoman, get BEYONCE! Jesus, she's way hotter than Halle Berry. And Halle Berry sucks as Storm.
-
Blade is black, Steel is black, Catwoman is not black. It's ok to look for a white woman to play a white woman. But Warner Bros doesn't care about following the comic books. Please Warner Bros, stick to the comic. We like the comics so make a movie about the comic. But why in the world would they want to make a movie about catwoman anyways?! She is just a side character in the BATMAN comics. I just hope they don't screw up Superman.
-
Circa 1974, John Stewart was the Green Lantern with a conscience, while at the same time being an open, friendly guy. I still remember the issue of JLA where he seriously considered just making money out thin air for poor kids at Christmas time and ended up rebuilding a ghetto with the ring. The whole time he did it with a smile. The current John Stewart is just an angry guy.

I didn't think they could make a worse abomination than "Batman
by snookeroo
apparantly they are dead-set on it with the new "Catwoman".
after having read the synopsis of the movie, with all the "re-imaginings" they might as well cast Florence Henderson in the role -- this thing already blows. What the hey?? What's so hard about getting these (DC) comic book movies right, anyway? There's DECADES of material to draw from -- why pull some piece of flotsum out of a pin-head "I've never read the book myself" writers ass?
And, by the way, Julie Newmar IS Catwoman.
-
As long as WB choses to use lame 2nd string characters for their feature films, let's make a Jimmy Olsen movie. Only, now he's really a woman that's had a sex change operation. And he's bald, and related to the chick from the first Star Trek movie. And he talks like Popeye, and he has genitalia like Metamorpho, which transforms into super-element weapons of mass destruction, so he pisses off Dubya.
Or better yet, let's make a Streaky the Supercat movie. -
It's 2003 and I would have thought that by now people would get off the race thing. So what if the original catwoman was white. In the 60's the execs were open minded enough to open their eyes and see that looking at the character a little differently could have good rewards. Drop the color thing and get over it.

Listen up, tools... Eminem is not black, Brett Ratner is not black, and Halle Berry is not black. Note to Brett Ratner: eat a dick
-
One the best Catwomen in the comics has been Jim Balent's rendition. Based on what we saw in "Swordfish", Halle doesn't even come close. As for rumours that she got paid a million to flash those puppies, boy, were the producers short-changed. And she certainly is no Julie Newmar or Lee meriwether. My nominations from left field -- Charisma Carpenter, Rachel Weisz, Shannon Doherty, and (if we're going to go for feline rather than anything else) the chick that plays Rommy in Andromeda. In closing, what shame Krista Allen couldn't carry a role like this.
-
if you can't turn back the clock and cast Julie Newmar, then give Drea de Matteo (Adrianna on The Sopranos) a call. She's already wonderfully feline and feral, and probably works cheap!
-
This is yet another D.C.mistake. Although Halle is beautiful, she may have an oscar, and may bring a more racially diverse crowd to this movie; I just don't see it.Maybe I'm just one of those loyalist fanboy comic geeks you all love to hate, but that's my opinion. Who knows it might work? WHATEVER!!!
-
3 IMMENSE Reasons why Halle could NEVER play not only this role, but ANY role!!!
1) SHE CAN'T ACT!!! If she was such a great actress then she wouldn't pick films like she picks to be in, I mean does she think she played a good Storm?? When I saw her on the screen even speaking, no wait, even sitting there, I was like, HOW IS SHE STORM?!?!?! she was soo unbelievably bad... but everyone's sucking up to her cos she got an oscar for ONE, yes ONE film??? HOW CAN YOU BE CALLED A BRILLIANT ACTRESS FOR ONE FILM WHEN ALL OF HER OTHER ACTING ROLES SHE HAS TRIED TO PLAY WERE BAD!!! She did Storm NO justice at all!!!
2) CATWOMAN IS WHITE!!! THE BEST EVER CATWOMAN I THOUGHT WAS GOOD OLD MICHELLE AND NO ONE SHOULD MAKE NEMORE FILMS INVOLVING CATWOMAN COS SHE WAS THE BEST, Halle would be sooo bad COS SHE CAN'T ACT WHAT SO EVER!!! I MEAN COME ON, SHE WAS IN F**KIN' FLINTSTONES!!! I know people have to start out somewhere, but there?!?! shows how good she is, and was in that film, SHE WAS BAD!!!
3) I SOOOOOOO agree with what was said before about how she will end up on Where Are They Now, I mean, she probs wouldn't make it on there!!! She is terrible at action films in particular, but she keeps coming back to them for some strange reason. But actually, personally i thin kthis whole movie franchise is a bad thing neways, catwoman existed in the world of BATMAN!! SHE WAS NEITHER GOOD NOR BAD, SO HOW CAN SHE BE A SUPERHERO??? STUPID PRODUCERS!!!! RUIN OUR LIVES WITH HER IF U WILL!!!
Looking at her track record, Halle got an oscar for one character, and comparing that character to the rest of her poorly-acted-out characters, it shows how completely trashy she is at acting!!! She didn't deserve the oscar at all.
ALSO, CATWOMAN IS WHITE!!!!!! HALLE ISN'T SURPRISINGLY!!!!!
*HINT HINT* SHE CAN'T PLAY THIS ROLE!!! -
ok black leather suit.....its gonna be like watching a shadow fight.... is that racist..
-
Damnit, first they make the Green Lantern Black on JLA, then the Kingpin black in DareDevil and now they make Catwoman black. What the fuck, let's let Jackie Chan play Superman, Jennifer Lopez be Wonder Woman and that dude that plays "Fez" on that 70's show be the Flash when they make the JLA movie. Let there be racial equality!!!! Let's make the JLA not just the JLA but the JLA-UN. Man, Fuck Hollywood.
-
OK First off even though Eartha Kitt was the third Catwoman, she put the PuRR in that character. She will always be known for that signature PURR. Second Eartha Kitt is an accomplished performer and a pioneer, and the reason that the majority doesn't know her body of work or the only films that she was in early in her film career was not spectacular was because HELLO she was a black woman in Hollywood in the 50s. Then third she was black listed for a time when she spoke against the Vietnam war to the President's face in the White House. Onto to Halle Berry. i love her but won't this conflict with the Xmen movies. One minute she is Storm, another minute she is Catwoman. Anyway what comic book movie ever stayed true to the comic. Come on people.
-
First off Jon Stewart was made a member of the Green Lantern Corps back in the 80s. And then Kyle who was the most recent GL was drawn with Asian features.
-
Selena Kyle has been every race in the comics and had every hairstyle, color and eye color imaginable. It all depends on the artists rendition and saying that Catwoman is supposed to be white is just plain racist. Personally I'd like to see a Japanese Batman, or an Indian Superman(considering he's an alien, who gives a rat's ass?) It's not the race of the actor that matters it's the performance they give and how well they capture the overall feel of that character. Dean Cain was Superman on Lois and Clark and I don't remember anyone complaining that Supes had become asian. Hugh Jackman is six feet tall, about 175 lbs with blue eyes, but that did not make him any less adept at capturing the feel of Wolverine. Would anyone really prefer Glenn Danzig as Wolvie? He is an almost perfect description of him, short, hairy , bad tempered, but can he act? The fact that Casting decisions cause such outrage from comic fans is one reason why non geeks think we are anal retentive idiots with little imagination beyond established fictional"norms" that were established in days when black, asian, and any other ethnicity that was'nt anglo was not acceptable in long underwear and a cape. Now I suppose X2 will be heavily criticized because Alan Cumming is'nt actually German, and he's cast as NightCrawler. damn I didn't mean to rant this much.
-
Ok dont you people seem to understand that this film is about catwoman, but not THAT catwoman...it isn't about Miechlle's catwoman its about cat-loving gymnast who runs an animal-grooming business. While she is a vulnerable woman, her alter ego, Catwoman, is superconfident and fights evil." This synopsis sounds like the plot to the old Kondell draft. The most recent draft centered on orphaned veterinary scientist Patience Price's vendetta against industrialist Simon Church, the man whose corporate assassins "killed" her. Lake City detective Tom Lone is the point man in the police's Catwoman investigation. What Lone doesn't realize, though, is that his prey also happens to be his mousy next door neighbor and prospective girlfriend, Patience Price...so why cant Patience Price be black?!?!
-
actually, Lee Meriwether *did* appear as Lily Munster; in the remake, with John Schuck as Herman.
