Quint's Undercover at A.F.M. Report #2: Pics - JERSEY GIRL, BAD SANTA, NEVERLAND, DUPLEX & KILL BILL!!!
Hey folks, Harry here with a host of images from the Miramax AMERICAN FILM MARKET book which young Quint put in the back of his pants at AFM last week. Personally, is it just me, or does the picture of Lauren Graham from BAD SANTA just make you go goggily? What a sweetheart, beautiful eyes! Anyway, here ya go...
Ahoy, squirts. Quint here, as promised, to deliver the scans from the glossy Miramax book I nabbed at the American Film Market. Bad Santa, Duplex, Neverland and Jersey Girl pics below. I don't know if any of these have appeared anywhere else, but if they have I haven't seen 'em.
Oh, and here's a Kill Bill shot (coming October 10th)...

Pretty cool. Nice chair leg Uma has there...
Let's see... Can't go wrong with Drew "I'm so ungodly cute" Barrymore. Here's a line of pics from DUPLEX, Danny DeVito's directorial effort starring Ben Stiller, Ms. Barrymore and a very scary old lady. (Scheduled for an unspecified date in October)

Isn't she so cute? She will be mine some day, oh yes. Grrrr...
How about some Bad Santa? Anything from Terry Zwigoff has my interest. Especially when it involves Billy Bob Thornton as a mall Santa. (Scheduled for an unspecified date in December!)

Now from some Kevin Smith action. Below you will find Affleck and J. Lo. (Coming November 7th)

Here are some of my favorite pics. The below come from NEVERLAND, the Johnny Depp/Kate Winslet... oh, and Dustin Hoffman... flick about Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie. (No date specified, though scheduled for September 26th in the UK, suggests post Summer U.S. release)

Not bad, huh? Thanks to Kraken for scanning these for me. Well, I'm off to get a start on some of these AFM reviews. As you'll see in the near future these reviews will run all over the place, from miserable piece of shit, to pretty good to fucking great. But that's all for another day. 'Til then, this is Quint bidding you all a fond farewell and adieu.

I know I am probably alone in this but Kill Bill was probably one of the worst traliers I have see in a long time. Tarrintino needs to take a longer break and write a Vega Brothers movie like he promised years ago.
-
oh it's fine to say "FIRST" like a tard... but if you dare DEDICATE IT! My friend Mossy has terminal Bowel cancer and is bed-ridden and useless... that should get symphathy from a site ran by Harry knowles.

... The rest are still up in the air. I think the Kill Bill trailer was excellent, but honestly doesn't work to well on the big screen for some odd reason. The shots are smooth and colors are nearly breaking the screen. Dustin Hoffman has a serious dedication to Peter Pan, no doubt about it.

what is so bad about the KILL BILL trailer, that makes them absolutely hate it? How in the fuck, does it NOT translate well on screen? The latter would have to be the worst fucking opinion Ive heard about the KILL BILL trailer thus far, but im sure I'll read more in the coming day or so. I liked the pictures, particularly the BAD SANTA stuff, but Drew Barrymore, I don't know, but it's something about her that I find very unattractive, and it could be that shes cute in a "Hi, I am a dumb shit" kinda way. I would take Kate Winslet over her anyday, as well as Uma Thurman. Good work Quint, cant wait to read your reviews.

Easily the hottest ass on television, and with Zwigoff there's really no reason to not want to see Bad Santa now. Though that Devito flick is gonna have a hard job selling me after he laid that turd on a great script with Death to Smoochy.
-
It'll be such a wonderful film; ooh, I'm getting warm + fuzzy inside. 'Kill Bill' oughta be fun too- I wonder if it'll come here sooner 'cause of the Hong Kong filming; hmmm... Yay to Kevin S, but I'm scared of the J. Lo factor in 1 of his movies. I'll still be there to see all those 3, however. + yeah, that old lady is the creepiest senior citizen since the lady from 'The Frighteners' or 'Il Duche' from 'The Boondock Saints.' Out.

I still think QT should have cast Yukari Oshima as O-Ren Ishii.
by cash bailey
Just to keep it old-school and to get more than one person (Lau Kar Fai) who can really fight into the film.

yeah, and we all know that trailors are perfect representations

Who gives a flying fuck if the Kill Bill trailer looks lame? that doenst mean the movie is. When i saw Pulp Fiction traliors I thought it would be the worst thing ever, turned out to be my favorite movie. Jackie Brown, same thing. Some movies are just impossible to encapsulate in a 30 second clip, esspecially movies like Quintens. Look at tv. UPN can't make a Buffy preview to save it's life, but the show remains classic. Give it a chance. Just wait, I'm betting a half dozen hot pockets that it turns out to be a great flick.

....for Tarantino to fall over, and all the "has beens", "wanna be's", "no hopers" and "dead beats" who haven't got one single ounce of creativity in their pea sized brains are starting to gather.....who gives a flying fuck that Uma can't carry a film, who gives a flying fuck that the fight scenes don't look good.....this film, even if it is the biggest pile of cinematic shite ever (which it won't be), will still be far better than half of the steaming dog turds of movies that are coming out....and by the way I ain't no Tarantino "Fanboy"......I just think you should all just get a grip.....so go away and pick holes in Dumb & Dumberrerer or whatever the fuck its called....

kill bill is gonna rock! anyone who doesn't believe that, should get back to watching Michael BAy movies!!

Quint, do you know you and Harry are namechecked in the Dog Sold
by togmeister
Yes really, the producer's track thanks you and Harry for your support of a really cool low-budget flick and efforts to get it distributed in the U.S., and the full screening that was organised in Austin. Never seen AICN mentioned on a DVD before, so that must make you proud.........

thanks dudes.

I got bored reading you past, so forgive me if I misunderstand... but your'e saying it is sad the way Americans fetishize on asian culture? Is that not a two way street?
-
... more like BamBORING. ** Seriously, put down your collection of anal-retentively organized VCDs and spend the next six months or so in front of a mirror trying to come up with a smile. ** You come off like the stereotypical uptight Asian (and being Asian myself, I've spent a lot of time explaining away attitudes like yours), ... unless that's exactly what you're going for in an effort to ape a cultural preconception, poseur. Grow up and quit whining. No one's impressed.
-
Nice to see Miss Lorelai Gilmore get some film work and Bad Santa should be a great choice instead of the usual tv star romantic comedy flop.
-
Which makes it all the more sad.

I'll agree wholeheartedly with the person that said Kevin Smith sucks. Overrated, self-important, bloated, hairy, egotistical, unable-to-write-a-conversation-that-doesn't-sound-like-it-was-written-for-the-movies Kevin Smith? Yeah, him. He sucks.
-
I love cynical Santas. They rule.
Don't understand the Kill Bill Bashing. I thought the trailer rocked and the film will, in all probability, kick righteous ass. -

by moriarity report
I loved Jackie Brown because he used underrated talent like Robert Forester and Pam Greir and got great preformances from them. I don't think there is anything wrong with taking asian culture and "anglo-cizing" it. American culture is based on all of the cultures of the people who have lived in the country over the years. Much of the art created by white Americans has been strongly influenced (even "stolen") from different cultures. But it's called a "melting pot". How is having a martial arts movie starring non asians racist then? Star Wars and the Matrix have strong asian influences so are they racist too? I love the asian influences on those films. Is every Chuck Norris, Stevn Seagal film racist? The fact is, there are still a whole lot of martial arts films starring asians being made. I think a person should find it fascinating to see another culture or race picking up on another culture's or race's art. If an Asian-American enjoys watching the asian NASCAR driver race then is he racist? No.

My take on Kill Bill, and yes I read the script and was thoroughly engaged, is that its a bit of a loveletter to genre fans, from one of the biggest genre fans on the planet. I don't feel Tarantino's casting of Gordon Liu or Sonny Chiba to be exploitative or cheap. The man thoroughly worships these two screen actors for their body of work and rightly so. They are legends of genre films, and due to their filmographies, they immediately bring a level of coolness to the screen that we as fans of their films will connect with. Remember, Kill Bill may connect with a broader audience, but it's a film made for geeks that know whats up. I personally would have preferred others to be cast besides Uma and Lucy Liu, but that's just my tastes. The rest of the casting is brilliant, and I'm sure those two will rise up as well. It does get a bit frustrating when Yuen Wo Ping has to tone dopwn his brilliance so unseasoned 6 month in the gym 'martial artists' can barely perform his moves (ala Matrix), but overall that doesn't detract from the story. And that really is what its about no? Kill Bill is a great story. Not earth shattering or Oscar bound, but its a helluva tight little revenge flick with some killer sequences. Is Rza doing the soundtrack? I keep hearing him mentioned. He doesn't blow my wig back like a lot of people, but thats because I been making beats half my life and underproduced looped samples is about as easy as it gets. Still, used correctly, as in ghost Dog, it adds a nice bit of atmosphere. I thought the music to the Kill Bill trailer was the shit and the trailer played well. But....remember all you haters. If your not feelin Kill Bill, you're forgetting what is cool about Cool Movies. Drop the fucking 'film degree' and just chill to this mothafucka. Nobody knows fucking cool Movies like QT. You can't argue with that without looking like a dumbshit. End Rant M

If you had the time to look back at the AICN article about Kill Bill from August, you would see that I completely agree with you about Kill Bill. Terrible. Boring. Snore. Please. Shut. Up. God, Lucy Lui? Doesn't the bitch have a cocked eye? And didn't Tarantino die?

jersey girl is going to be the worst movie ever. what the fuck kevin smith? their is a happy medium between dick and fart jokes and making a jlo/affleck movie. weak.
-
ok, i admit that QT can make cool movies, one of his in my top ten, but fuck. daryl hannah in an eyepatch? how did they manage to drag her away from the set of Adams Family: Straight to Video?
-
When I say that a Ben Affleck/Jennifer Lopez movie has been long, long overdue. You can never get enough Ben Affleck.
-
Kevin Smith's dialouge isn't that realistic; true. But a writers stuff doens't have to be realistic because it's HIS world, and if you don't like it that's cool. Personally, I absolutley love Kevin's world. It's clever, witty, and full of humor and emotion. Jersey Girl is full of stars (I'm a little iffy on J-Lo) but I'm sure Kevin did it for a reason, and I'm positive it will be awsome. In conclusion, I love Kevin Smith, and I don't care if you don't.
Good Times -
Im looking forward to Jersey Girl. It will give him a chance to return to a Chasing Amy style of movie. I get the feeling that the people who slag of this movie AND will slag this movie regardless of whether its any good or not just see Affleck and Lopez and want to give it a kicking.Wait till the movie comes out because with Smiths,Affleck and Lopezs talent( and they do have talent) coupled with Affleck and Lopezs ability to pull in an audience this movie could be a new tier of popularity for Smith. If Im wrong I will happily eat my words.
-
I have watched all of Smith's movies and The only Movie that I didn't care much for was that Amy movie. I like all of the dick and fart jokes that Smith writes. I am not going to like this movie because Jay and Bob arent in the movie. I will still watch the movie because I like Smith's movies.
