Robogeek dishes more on GOONIES 2 and other Sean Astin projects
Hey folks, Harry here... Ol Robogeek was in College Station (home of every good Austinite's maroon clad enemies) to witness and record Sean Astin's every move. His sensors recorded many details and his neural net has calculated many probable links... As always, they're mostly relevant. Here he is with ADDITIONAL info...
Howdy, Harry! Robogeek here again.
I saw the excellent
report you posted regarding Sean
Astin's HREF="http://txfilmfest.tamu.edu/guest_speaker.html">visit to the HREF="http://txfilmfest.tamu.edu/programming.html">Texas Film Festival
(at Texas A&M this past Saturday), and
wanted to follow-up with some additional information.
This probably goes without saying, but Sean simply could not have been more
gracious or delightful. The fit-and-trim actor-director (looking quite
un-hobbit-like) was equal parts insightful, amusing, and touching -- and
consistently unassuming and articulate. It was obvious he has at least as
big a heart as the characters he's most famous for -- the beloved Mikey,
Rudy and Sam -- which was not only refreshing but inspiring. (For instance,
after a clip of RUDY was screened, Sean didn't talk about himself, but
singled out Jerry Goldsmith's beautiful score, and how much it added to the
movie.) To say he was warmly received by the audience would be an
understatement; by the end of his visit, he had earned the devotion of over
400 people in attendance who will never, ever forget the experience.
(And as the festival's founder, I must say I was extremely proud to witness
it.)
BTW, there's a really wonderful HREF="http://www.theonering.net/perl/newsview/7/1046015720">report over
at TheOneRing.net that I highly
recommend reading. It's a very sweet, personal account of Sean's visit
written from a fan's perspective, and offers a lot of details...
HREF="http://www.theonering.net/perl/newsview/7/1046015720">www.theonering.n

At any rate, I gleaned some additional information from Sean at a small
reception prior to the main event, which I wanted to share...
Regarding a sequel to THE GOONIES,
Sean indeed said that he's got a complete story all worked out in his head,
and was visibly enthused by it. At last year's Golden Globes he mentioned
this to Spielberg (who seems intent on producing it), but was told that a
script was already in the works and nearing completion (though I don't know
the writer). Since then, though, Sean hasn't heard anything else about the
project's status.
However, Sean did express very strong interest in directing the
GOONIES sequel himself (!) -- but only if Richard Donner declined to direct.
(Having seen Sean's excellent work on a recent episode of HREF="http://www.thewb.com/angel">ANGEL ["Soulless"], I'd be very
interested to see him do this.)
Sean also mentioned a school violence drama he's developing, based on a
story by REAR WINDOW author HREF="http://www.cwru.edu/artsci/engl/marling/hardboiled/Woolrich.HTM">Corne
ll Woolrich that he's acquired the rights to (and which was previously
adapted as an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents). In particular,
he hopes to build on the questions and issues raised on HREF="http://www.michaelmoore.com/">Michael Moore's HREF="http://www.bowlingforcolumbine.com/home.php">BOWLING FOR
COLUMBINE, which he expressed great admiration for (and encouraged
everyone to see).
The project Sean seemed most excited about -- and which he formally
announced at the Texas Film Festival -- is HREF="http://www.seanastin.com/isaac/">ISAAC'S STORM, an epic historical
drama set against the Galveston hurricane of 1900 (the worst natural
disaster in U.S. history) which he plans to direct and produce. His passion
for this project was palpable and infectious, and seemed due in equal parts
to Erik Larson's eponymous book and the screenplay by Lynne Kelly Messenger,
which he developed. More information is at HREF="http://www.seanastin.com/isaac/">www.seanastin.com/isaac/.
Anyway, I wish all of you could've attended, but if and when you ever get
the chance to see Sean in person, I highly recommend seizing the
opportunity.
Thank you, Sean!
Best,
- Robogeek

Don't get me wrong, I love the Goonies and all, great film. But how can anybody expect the Goonies 2 to be anything other than an almighty stinking shitfest on wheels. Everyone here (at least whoever's left) must be aware that this is going to suck some serious ass, and yet everyone's still creaming themselves over it. I just don't get it.
-
Am I the only one who cares about this project? Is it going forward? Was it just a pipe dream of Christopher Lee and Robin Hardy? Anyone? sk
-
Have to agree with you Earthworm. I love the Goonies. What sane person doesn't, but the prospect of a sequel with older, fatter versions of the kids nudge-nudging and wink-winking in a post-modern way is about as appealing as On Deadly Ground II. Why would you go back and shit on something that is timelss and perfect? Like Lucas has done with the original trilogy? The abortions that are the prequels have actually negatively affected my love of the original trilogy. Thanks George. Oooops. Sorry to Star Wars bash. Bottom line, why are people excited? Whats to be excited about? Why are you all erecting trouser-tents are the thought? EXPLAIN GODDAMMIT!
-
Whoa....I'm scared.
-
....do we really need a reason to let Corey Feldman stick his fat, pathetic, whiny face on TV or film any more than is necessary.
-
sounds like a winner to me.

RevSk, I'm curious about this pseudo-sequel to "Wicker Man"
by gypsytrobot
Looked up Riding of the Laddie at Coming Attractions, they didn't have a listing. However they did have a link to what is supposedly a maquette of Shelob. If you want to see a picture of a dork holding a spider model, click here: http://theannex.curvedspaces.com/html/rotknews.html

These sentimental yet fun comedies never translate well into sequels. Who wants to hear Avril Levine shreak through a cover of Girls Just Wanna have fun as the Rock or HHH take over the role of the big freak. Ekkk. Leave it alone. Instead how bout Toy Soldiers 2??? Rudy 2? Stand By Me 2? Was he in that? Eh, who cares.
-
Wow, pot. That just makes everything funny, especially a peice of shit like Idle Hands. Potheads can suck my balls. Uncreative wastes of flesh.
-
"If you want to see a picture of a dork holding a spider model, click here..." Oh my god - that's the funniest thing I've seen all day. The most hilarious part is that I thought "Do I EVER!!" and immediately checked it out. Yeah, I'm a dork. As for Mr. Astin - man, this guy must be the GREATEST. Everyone that meets him or comes in close proximity to him falls in love, it seems like. I like him and all, but his charisma must be through the ROOF. And Goonies 2? I think not.
-
Maybe I should change my screenname so I don't come off as a hypocrite. On the other hand I named myself after a big purple semi-retarded puppet robot from MST3K, so the quality of being an uberdork is just sort of assumed. One more thing: does anyone else think that Sean Astin is sort of a media whore at this point? When he's not repping LotR at an American awards event, he's doing a 9/11 remembrance ceremony or directing an episode of Angel. Sean Astin reports seem to be dominating theonering.net lately.
-
Well, kudos to your dorkiness, Gypsy! Yes - Sean does seem to be somewhat of a media whore. But- he seems to enjoy himself and he appears to be a force for good, so there's nothing wrong with that, I guess. But I will say that if I have to see one more report about what a great guy he is and how genuine he is, I might actually put in a request for my bosses to shoot me into space....

To those who aren't looking forward to a Goonies sequel... I wouldn't worry too much about it, because it's looking like this project is falling apart at Warner Bros. They can't find a writer and don't even have a working treatment much less a first draft. The project is definitely in development, but it's this close to turnaround - so if you're waiting for it, don't hold your breath. Also, Sean Astin ain't writing it and he's certainly not directing it.
-
the first one was great...it'll be a part of my childhood forever...but that's pretty much where it ought to stay...no good can come of this...well maybe if there's a CGI Sloth Jr.
::buuuurrrrrpp:: -
i haven't seen about half of these anywhere!pretty bad ass go here- www.kojiroabe.com/rotk/
-
Just out of curiosity... why hasn't anyone mentioned Sean's starring role in Jeremiah this season... or did I miss that? It's on the show's website...
-
you're fucking right, he is...
funny shit. -
You Sir, are an Ass Clown.
-
It's currently in post-production and stars Billy Connelly (Boondock Saints, BSII: All Saint's Day), Paul Walker (The Fast and The Furious, The Skulls), Frances O'Conner (A.I., Windtalkers), Gerard Butler (Reign of Fire, Tomb Raider 2) and Ethan Embry (Empire Records, Sweet Home Alabama). It's being produced by Richard and Lauren Schuler-Donner and Jim Van Wyck. Music by Jerry Goldsmith. Written by George Nolf (Ocean's Twelve) based on Crichton's novel. ............ If they stayed remotely close to the book, it should be a damn good yarn! .........Scheduled for release later this year.

My, you really are a geek aren't you? And to whoever keeps cutting and pasting that shit further up, FUCK OFF COCKSMOKER
-
I have seen most of those pics but not in such high quality scans and it's nice to have it all collected together. Well Andy Serkis will be his own sweet proto-hobbity self in a flashback in RotK, so perhaps he'll be eligible for best supporting actor next year?
-
Which of the corpulent fucks that run this site keeps deleting posts, no matter how innocuous? Post a few criticisms about a performance or the obvious personality traits of an actor and suddenly the posts go missing. Harry and company: please quit trying to climb into the rectums of celebs and allow vistors to this site to express their opinons in this forum without censoring as you see fit. Absolutely ridiculous and causes a real credibility problem for the site.

Hi everyone,
I was thinking about the storyline for the upcoming sequel to the Goonies, and I really think that most fans of the film are against the idea of the central focus of the new adventure being around the original Goonies kids.
I am sure that Spielberg and Donner will still have the opportunity of reading scripts with other storylines, but this Ancient Indian Rocky adventure idea for the kids sounds to me to be too much.
If your thoughts are similar to mine, you will also understand the need of the sequel to not be written intent for a third chapter.
This usually ruins the film in my opinion,(E.G BTTF3 - only appealed to fans, but was a cop out in my opinion and couldn't have held it's own without being part of a tilogy).
It would seem to me to be that those with the power might just be trying to aim the film at a younger audience with money making in mind- Though this is not actually definate, it could well be a possibilty.
I do not want the film to be a cop out, nor do I assume that Speilberg or Donner do, but do they really know or understand their Goonies fanbase???
If they do I am surprised by the current pitching of the possible sequel idea that are floating around on the net.
Though many pople who will watch the sequel having maybe never seen the first, will possibly enjoy the current ideas, I think that it will not outweigh the interest of the fans of the first film.
Also, can the film survive if all the Goonies do not return? Do we think that the film can be a success if the Fratelli's are not involved?
They may say that right now all the actors have agreed to come back, but at this undecided rate, the film still has time to collapse or poeple to give up interest in it, what with the lack of information about it.
These are just some of my thoughts, but I think we have an opportunity to possibly voice our opinions and stop the film maybe going straight to video, or bomb out at the cinema.
If anyone has any suggestions on how you think we can have our voice heard, lets please discuss this and weigh up the pros and cons of the impending sequel storylines.
