From Korea comes a Dragon movie that looks pretty fooking cool! DRAGON WARS!!!

Published at:  Feb 18, 2003 7:23:55 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... Since we'll never get those DRAGONRIDER OF PERN movies in theaters because REIGN OF FIRE didn't perform like it... SHOULD HAVE!!! That movie kicked all sorts of ass and I don't care what anyone else says, I loved it! Well, this is as close as we're likely to get anytime soon. And because it is from Korea, you're doomed to hearing me and a few other adventurous souls that'll spend the time and effort to track it down talk about it, while many of you won't scour the web and E-bay and those strange theaters you've never gone in before, to get it. HOWEVER, for the rest... for those that dig deep and search the Earth for entertainment worth our time... HERE YA GO!!! This is one to hunt for!

Harry, haven't seen this posted on your site but I may just missed it.  This is the trailer for an upcoming Korean flick called Dragon Wars or D-Wars.  It looks like it's going to ail our wounded expectations from Reign of Fire.  The CG certainly looks fake but somehow it has that fitting cartoonish look to it.  Here's the link to the trailer:

    Oh dear God no.

    by splinter

You SHOULD care what other people think in this case Harry - Reign of Poo was one of the worst films I have ever seen. EVER. And as you so rightly pointed out, is almost singlehandedly responsible for scuppering the chances of ANY Dragon-related film for the next...oooooooh 15 years. I LOVE Dragons, I love everything to do woth them, always have. But McConugha-hams hamminess and ludicrous grunting amounted to what was possibly the most laughable performance I've seen in years. I know a certain type of Yank likes that jingoistic, flag-waving shite, but the rest of the world finds it plain embarassing. Terrible terrible terrible. Beyond redemption. Beyond excuses. The dragons were cool though. For the 12 and half seconds they were on the screen.

are intelligent and can talk. obviously early am in the states cause i'm....yeah whatever. Will probably get this movie soon after it's domestic release living in Japan. South korean cinema is the flavour of the month here. Actually anything korean for about 1 year now. It all started with some Japanese/Korean Drama with some hot young cute guy in it. got all the girls raging about korean men...ha ha! little do they know! that's about it for me.

What the deuce is wrong with this link?!?! Say what you will about Windows Media Player... at least it made an effort at down loading the bloody thing. It's probably a sign, someone my age shouldn't be trying to down load trailers for films about dragons.

    Dragons: Myth or Science?

    by zinc_chameleon

What D-Wars does I hope is to keep Dragons in the realm of myth where they belong. Once you try to get scientific, everything we find so beautiful about dragons doesn't work. Reign of Fires's attempts at science were seriously distracting. Jurassic Park has happened, whether we like or not. Better to have dragons from outer space like "Life Force" --which might be a good movie to remake--or create them ourselves, as Michael Crichton suggests.

Real dragons can talk and have a BOMB IN THEIR RIBCAGE

    by dog of mystery

And they have beers and cheet on their wives, too. REIGN OF FIRE was merely so-so. I expected a lot more from Rob Bowman.

Could be good, could be crap

    by 007-11

Harry, even you must concede that "Reign of Fire" lacked the very thing that a dragon movie must have, fucking dragons. There was about 20 minutes worth of dragons, the rest was all analyzing the human element. I can't satisfy my dragon lust on that. I see people all the damn time, I wanted some damn dragon action. Had they expanded the contact with the dragons and maybe had one or two huge epic wars with entire flocks of dragons then there might have been a worthwhile movie. You've been blinded by your dragon love!

    Speed...wtf?

    by devil0509

Speed, what exactly is your problem with Koreans? "Got all the girls raving about hot korean men...what little they know"...what the hell are you talking about? What is your truth about Korean men? What do you think you know that you should share to spare the women of the world from them? Korean is the flavor of the month, you say. I find it rare that Korea even gets mentioned. Wonderful Days has spectacular animation in its trailer, that's about all that's been said about that movie. Korean cinema has put out some nice work recently, which a few people in the States have noticed. Good cinema should get noticed, particularly on a web site devoted to film. So what exactly is your problem? In what way are you feeling threatened? Can Korea not get favorably noticed without you having issues? Or would you prefer that the only mention Korea gets is trite racist crap about dog-eating and hot women?

Harry EBAY DON'T Sell the flicks you mention

    by corporateplant

Well they do, but I can't find an All Region Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, or What Becomes of the Broken Hearted (damn I want to see that sequel bad) or alot of other flicks you talks about. I did get Avalon though, and its great! Shaolin Soccer was okay, not as wonderful as I was led to believe. But all in all, I really have no reason to be typing this....

What a Dragon movie needs now

    by zinc_chameleon

A few months ago, a clerk threw in 'Dragonheart: A New Beginning for free. It was way better written than Reign of Fire. So here's what a Dragon movie needs:(1)
Dragons that leap and glide physically, but fly only with psychic powers. (Better than the aerodynamic falsehoods we get.)
(2)Dragons that don't speak colloquial English, but communicate psychically by images. (Used quite effectively in Lifeforce, among others.)(3)Dragons that are crawling with vermin, both large and small, that make them extremely dangerous for humans to touch. (More like real dinosaurs would be.)

007-11, and pretty much everyone else...

    by danceswithwerewolves

REIGN OF FIRE kicked more ass than any other dragon film on the face of the planet. Does that make it better? NO. Dragon Slayer is still the best dragon film ever, and 007-11, Dragon Slayer had less time than Reign of Fire. Did Reign have flaws? Sure, like that confusing as all hell ending, or Mathew however-the-hell-you-spell-his-last-name dies too easily. For those who say it's boring...what fucking movie were you watching? Couldn't possibly be Reign Of Fire. Every time there was a Dragon in frame, there was adrenalyne pumping through the screen and leaking out onto the floor. I applaud Harry for liking the movie, because the general public...which you guys seem to be blending with lately, didn't like it, and never back up why. I'm tired of "bitch, bitch bitch." Never before have dragons looked better in Reign Of Fire. I personally think it should have been longer with a different ending, but it was a fine film. What's even more terrible is that you'll trash Reign, but praise the 2nd worse film of the year, Attack of the Fucking Clones. I can understand the hardcore fans loving it, but was it really worth the 300+ million it made? Hell no. Riegn of Fire deserved better than it did. Slam me if you want, but it's not going to hurt me ego any because I know that your words will be just like Storm Troopers...harmless, amusing, and expected.

    by 007-11

No, I said there was a horrible lack of dragons. The dragons looked incredible, I wanted to see more. That scene with the helicoptor and the dragon decoys, fantastic. I laughed my ass off at the retelling of Star Wars. My favorite dragon movie is Flight of Dragons.

I only responded to your comment on lack of Dragons. Sorry if it came off as more, but i went on a hate rant when most everyone on here started trashing a movie that doesn't need to be trashed. As far as from what i read from your first post, it didn't come off that you liked the movie.

All of you fisherman out there, if you ever catch a male fish, FOR GOD SAKE THROW IT BACK. Because Dragons are like fish, there is only one male who fertalizes all of the females eggs, and if you kill the male fish they will all die!

    Trailers won't work

    by christopher_atuc

Neither version of the trailer will work (WMV or MOV). As a web designer, one of my pet peeves is a non-functioning website. In my book, it's comparable to having a customer service rep at my local department store ignore me when I need assistance. Their web site is their representative to the public. Incompetence at any level makes me question the overall production values. Hopefully, the web designer's inability to deliver on the "D-War" web site isn't indicative of the type of production values adopted for the film. I really dig dragons, and I'd love to see a great dragon movie. Hopefully they will get their butts in gear, and fix the site soon. I'd love to eventually see the trailer.

    Dragon movies ALWAYS bite...

    by zillaman2003

...from Dragonslayer to Dragonheart to (god help us all) Dungeons and Dragons. Reign of Fire had a few cool moments but they were mostly non-dragon related (such as the scene with the "Star Wars" story played out for the children). Even the brief scenes with dragons in The Two Towers were disappointing. So don't blame ROF for single-handedly ruining any chance of future dragon themed movies. Hollywood has NEVER gotten it right. I say if we have to be subjected to badly-conceived dragons in poorly-played out movies, then let it be from the KING of bad (-assed) dragons...GODZILLA. Horrible CGI/special effects...fake looking monsters...terrible (sometimes unfathomable) plots...it has everything a BAD-GOOD dragon movie needs. Keep 'em coming TOHO.

    regarding dragons.

    by docpazuzu

Although Dragonslayer is my favorite of that particular subgenre, I did really enjoy Reign of Fire, if mostly on the "guilty pleasure" level. The one thing in that film that bugged me more than anything, however, was Alice Krige's character handing out bottles of Budweiser to her workers. Surely the British have better taste in beer than that, yes?
And what's all this Lifeforce stuff about? Those weren't dragons any more than the Van Helsing production art of Dracula is. They were space vampires, baby! Mathilda May! Hooo mama... They don't make 'em like they did in the 80s.... Doc out.

    Reign of Fire

    by kozure okami

If you can't shut off your brain and enjoy a good solid man movie like Reign of Fire, you have no business watching dragon movies in the first place. It ain't perfect, but at least it isn't smothered in cheese.

Splinter, I think you missed the point, which is ironic considering your tone. McConaughey's character wasn't supposed to be likeable. He was a loudmouthed ass whose bravado killed his entire crew and many of the inhabitants of the castle. He was painted as a ruthless fanatic, blinded by pride. His chief saving grace was that he fought back when everybody else ran and hid.
