Want To See BUBBA HO-TEP In LA With Bruce Campbell, Don Coscarelli And The Crustiest Seaman AICN Has To Offer'!

Published at:  Feb 10, 2003 5:49:53 AM CST

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

Quint’s got this one covered, and because Don Coscarelli wants you to attend this screening, I was asked to take down the announcement of the RUE MORGUE-sponsored screening in Toronto. This is the screening Don wants you to go to, and I can see why. Check out what Quint has to say about the event:

Ahoy folks. Quint here... You've heard me, Moriarty and Harry go off on how much fun Bubba Ho-Tep is... now's your chance to see this flick about an aging Elvis (played by Ash himself, Mr. Bruce Campbell) living out the end of his days in an East Texas retirement home by battling a mummy who sucks the souls outta the assholes of the elderly. Don Coscarelli of PHANTASM and BEASTMASTER glory directed this flick based on Joe R. Lansdale's short story and boy is it out there... but in a good way! I promise!

If you live in or around LA then keep Feb. 27th open. The American Cinematheque is screening Bubba Ho-Tep with director Don Coscarelli and Bruce himself in attendance... and I'll be there, too. I got an email from Don giving me this statement:

Meet Bruce Campbell!

Bruce Campbell and director Don Coscarelli have been invited by the prestigious American Cinematheque to introduce a premiere screening of Bubba Ho-tep at the Egyptian Theater, in the heart of Hollywood, California, on Thursday night, February 27th at 7:30PM. Ticket information is HERE.

Buy tickets early!

He also told me he wants to get the place packed with you folks who actually enjoy fun films and other people who will geek out to see Bruce Campbell as Elvis teaming up with Ossie Davis (yes, that Ossie Davis) as an elderly black man who thinks he's JFK to fight off the evil Egyptian menace. What better way to pop your Bubba Ho-Tep cherry than seeing it at the Egyptian?

So, hope to see you Evil Dead fans turn out. Bruce is always someone to see speaking live. Don't pass up this opportunity!

I'm off to a small city of sin on the Texas/Louisiana border for a few days, but I'll be back soon. 'Til then, I bid you all a fond farewell and adieu.

-Quint

email: Drop me a line if you're going to be there! I'd love to say hi!!!

    Naw, I already saw this

yep - pretty good. Take the chance, in all likelyhood this wil never get a wide release. Its too high concept (Elvis and a black JFK vaquishing a mummy from an east Texas funeral home), and yes, maybe a little too low budget in parts. Some of the jokes fall flat - like the two morgue guys - and the pacing is a little stiff at times, but all in all, a very entertaining film - and one that appeals to everyone who clamours to see a film that's a little different. See it for Bruce Campbell's best acting ever (and second greatest role) and watch him get upstaged by Ossie Davis as the real treat in this sordid little affair. Oh, and great, great throwaway lines.

That's the best idea for a movie I've heard in forever

Sorry, I know a lot of us at AICN have been geeking out over Bubba-Ho-tep for a while now, but I just never bothered to find out what it's about. Now if only someone would invent a time machine, stop the two Beastmaster sequels from being made, and Don could re-visit THAT property . . .

Like Michael Jackson, I'll be there!

Have to wait until tomorrow to get tix, you can only order them via FAX (and I don't have a FAX machine handy at the moment) unless you are a member of the theatre. Talk about being in the age of the dinosaurs!
