The Night Hawk swoops up on DAREDEVIL
Hey folks, Harry here... Well he mentions the new X-MEN 2 trailer, just doesn't go into it enough for my taste... And as for DAREDEVIL, count another happy customer... that's 4 for 4 so far. Not bad, could be great!
Dear Harry:
I caught the official media preview of 'Daredevil' tonight here in London. I have to say I was really impressed: going in I wasn't so sure. I wasn't really blown away by the trailers and felt it would suffer a bit from the recent Marvel adaptations. However, here is a brief rundown:
Good points:
1. New trailer of X-Men 2: This surprised me as a lot of previews like this don't have trailer but I guess its natural for Fox to trail its other big Marvel release of the year. Anyway it was EXCELLENT and far superior to the current trailers on the web - really got me going for the film. Much more scope and a cracking moment right at the end involving Wolverine...
2. Back Story: Unlike Spider-Man which tried to compress a lot of the character's history into a single narrative DD goes for a flashback approach and it works very well. His discovery in the hospital of his radar sense is excellent and really sets the tone for the film - yes there is action but there is also a respect for the comic book source.
3. Characters: Like X-Men (and unlike Spider-Man) DD has a great array of characters that all interact well with each other whilst being interesting individuals (with the possible exception of Kingpin). The chemistry between DD and Elektra is hot and Garner really shines in the role. Tough AND beautiful. Colin Farrell is sensational as Bullseye - funny (REALLY funny) and yet believably dangerous, he is easily one of the best comic book villains I've seen in some time.
Affleck is an actor who I've never really been a fan of - the only roles he even looked comfortable in were 'Chasing Amy' and 'Changing Lanes'. BUT ...here he really looks the part and brings a surprising humanity to the role that hooked me in. AND his banter with Jon Favreau got a lot of laughs without ever seeming cheesy.
4. Action: The action in the film may not dazzle everyone but the film makers have wisely fused the characters feelings and actions. When Elektra/Daredevil/Bullseye or Kingpin fight it REALLY means something and isn't just there for the sake of looking cool.
5. Closing Thoughts: DD might suffer in comparison to 'bigger' adaptations like Spiderman, X2 or The Hulk but I really think this is one that fans will go back to and appreciate for some time to come.
This is THE NIGHT HAWK. Signing off...

Angelus should be daredevil

A new and different spin on a DD review! Satisfying in every way!

For Daredevil?? Wasn't this supposed to be the really weak comic book movie? The one with the shitty lead actor, an actress playing Elektra who isn't actually Greek, and a black actor playing Kingpin?? It's going to be fun to watch ALL the idiots who swore that they'd never go see this movie, now suddenly "changing" their minds and deciding to give DD a try. Oh, and dickrambone? What's up with that? Lolita??

Massive number of plants and payoffs. Just like for Blade II, Episode II, and A.I.?
-
was an obvious "homage" to Alec Baldwin in GlenGarry GlenRoss. It doesn't take much to watch a scene over and over again and mimic the performance.
-
I've heard good and bad reviews, dosen't matter, me and my girlfriend are still spending Valentines Day watching DD.
-
And I still have a hard time getting past that. I've got no great hatred of him like a lot of people seem to, but growing up with Miller and DD I knew Matt Murdoch, and Affleck is no Matt Murdoch. Sorry, Bentsen flashback. As for MCD as Kingpin, it didn't bother me making him black. His race is not of any importance aside from faithfullness to the DD universe. I think geting the right visuals and body type was most important for Kingpin, and MCG certainly fits the bill. After all, how many mesomorphs are running around SAG? You've got Arnold and Vin and a few others, but MCD is just massive looking on film.

Blade II didn't need any studio plants, it was fucking brilliant

Okay, I know we all have different tastes, and that's fine, but I've noticed a disheartening trend that leads me to believe that comic book movie lovers can be the most fickle, felatious, pretentious dip sticks this side of Harlon Ellison! Okay, everyone loved Superman when it came out, now it's all shit because it dared to have a funny villain(which WORKED, DEAL WITH IT). Then everyone loved Batman when it came out, but now they hate it too because the backstory was altered, the hero wasn't central enough, Kim Basinger is yesterday's news, Tim Burton is no longer popular, and the villain stole the show. Plus, the sequels all sucked(well except for Batman Returns, which we can like because everyone hated it when it came out, and we'd love Batman and Robin too if it were remotely watchable). Then there was Blade, which was a pleasant surprise that now just wasn't good enough. Then X-Men came out and everyone was blown away. But now that too sucks because of Storm's hair. And NOW Spider-Man, which was once applauded for FINALLY getting a comic book character right(forgetting Superman and X-Men), also sucks. Bad characters? Norman Osbourne, Peter Parker, Mary Jane, Harry, Aunt May, JJJ: these were bad? They don't all have their own title, but that's not in and of itself a BAD thing you know. The backstory being incorporated into the narrative makes it bad? No, it makes it DIFFERENT. There is no ONE WAY to make a comic book hero movie because every character is different. If they'd copied the script of Ultimate Spider-Man it'd be the same thing, and it'd still work. The actors had good chemistry, and the pacing is strong. It leaves many points unresolved as if it's a TV pilot and we'll all see these characters next week, but then a sequel IS on the way. God forbid they set it up with elements in the first movie so there will be an ongoing story here. I suppose in a year, no matter WHAT people think of Daredevil now, it too will suck, as will Hulk and X-Men 2, unless of course they are total flops and blasted by the critics. I'd include the new Superman movie, but I think everyone has already made up their minds that's going to blow anyway, plus it's a DC title so there you go. Geesh. How long before the Animated Batman gets labeled as a sloppy-looking shit storm? "This is a job for the Green Lantern, Tigra, and possibly Dr. Strange." "What about Superman?" "Oh please."
-
Well, it's looking like Marvel is going to get three good adaptations after all. The weakest comic book movie of 2003 is now looking to be, unfortunately, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Could Drath be.... no, say it ain't so...

How come so many movie geeks (and I don't mean geek in an insulting way) just want to much for something to hate? Ben Affleck may have been in some stupid movies, but that's no reason to hate his guts and decide a movie is bad because he's in it. Geesh. He may not be the greatest actor in the world, but he's still no AHNOLD or Shatner. Give the man some credit. Changing Lanes was very very good! And I agree with the dude who evaluated why a lot of you want to 'hate' every superhero movie... why can't you just enjoy movies and not let every little insignificant thing ruin it for you? I mean think about hating Apocolypse Now just beause the ending wasn't that great? God forbid you should enjoy a movie that isn't perfect.

There is a fanboy backlash against Spider-Man. The retarded thing is, some of the arguments against it also contain statements like; 'the original "Superman" is the greatest super-hero film' (as if it is any LESS silly) or 'it wasn't Dark enough' (as if we hadn't spent the last DECADE mired in shitty dark super hero films). "Spider-Man" had its flaws, IMHO not using Dafoe's face for the Goblin was the biggest. But it was still the best translation of an iconic comic book hero to come down the pike in my opinion. And the public seems to be backing me up.

Ever see Daredevil in Twisted Toyfare Theatre? Frickin' hilarious!
I never cared much for Daredevil, so I don't care much for this movie, trailers are horrible. And Afleck still sucks ass no matter what, he even knows this and goes on alcoholic benders from time to time. Hes only ever given 2 good acting performances in Chasing Amy and Changing Lanes... hmmm.... both start with "ch" maybe if the movie was called "Charedevil" it would be really good! -
This should prove to be very interesting...

Think about it logically for a moment. Some studios copped flak recently when the quotes on posters were found to be from people or newspapers that didn't exist. For most films websites like this are read by a miniscule percentage of their potential audience. The general public doesn't care about the opinions of those of us who go to this and other sites like it. In other words guys and girls WHY WOULD a studio take a risk of planting a story or review that could blow up in their face for minimal gain? Maybe a few years back before the blow up but to be honest we are just not that important. Studios would rather spend their money schmoozing journo's who write reviews or appear on tv. They may offer the occasional junket to Harry or Mori or Garth Franklin over at Dark Horizons etc in the hope that they will be friendlier towards the films they review but even then they know thats not a guarentee, I remember Harry giving a review where he mentioned how great it was to meet the filmakers etc and then followed by basically savaging the film ansd saying how sad it made him to say that after they were so nice to him. Planting a review might happen but lets not kid ourselves and think that the studios are that interested in us that they are doing it EN MASSE. This site is great because we can talk to each other and express our views to people with common interests but in the big scale we arent the centre of the universe people.

Guess what? One of my secret contacts told me that Kingpin dies at the end of the film. How you may ask? Yup, you got it.....DD rips his tit off.
-
Can someone describe the new X2 Trailer in detail, please?
Thanks,
Liz -
And that it wouldn't get to $100 million domestically, the bare minimum before any sequel can be considered.

Everyone forgets that Affleck was a DD fan for years before the
by neomanrex
This isn't somone who has no idea who the characters are. If you read the foreward affleck did for K. smith's run on DD you'd see he really knows the characters and was a fan first, Which is why he really wanted to do the role...It wasn't that he was so much recruited it's what he wanted, I think it will show through in his performance that this means more than collecting a paycheck for him.
And all the hate affleck things have no actual bearing whatsoever. " He was in movies I don't like...SATAN HE IS" -
A few weeks ago I wrote in and told all the nitpickers of this film that no matter how much they say they will never see this movie, that they will be the ones first in line. In regards to that, several positive reviews have been posted here and on Superhero Hype, and since then I haven't heard a single rumbling about this film. Could it be that these kids have put their foot in their mouths? I think so.

You think you have uncovered my identity mr. badassunclefucka???

I have news that could rock the very foundations of aicn talkbacks! Why does BadAssUncleFukka need so much to get to the bottom of the Fettasticular clone problem? Why does he have such a bee in his bonnet? Because Talkbackers, BadAss is correct in saying the clones are one and the same! BadAss is one side of the same duplicitous coin. BadAssUncleFukka is Fettaculistic! You have been RUMBLED!
