New DAREDEVIL Footage Lands Online!!

Published at:  Jan 21, 2003 4:07:23 AM CST

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

In addition to this week’s DINNER FOR FIVE, you can get a little taste of what to expect from DAREDEVIL thanks to Shubby, who dropped me this note:

I'm not kidding !

Can't believe u guys don't have it posted yet!!

Here’s the link!

Or from the original french “Allocine” page!

It's in realplayer format.

Njoy !

Call me Shubby

Enjoy it if you go. Me, I can’t abide RealPlayer, so I’ll wait. Besides, the great thing about DINNER FOR FIVE (which should repeat this week on IFC several times) is that it gives you a sense of the chemistry this cast has together, and just seeing how they were able to verbally spar has me even more excited to see the film next month.

"Moriarty" out.

Despite Mori's usually level-headed hype for films, I can't help but look at this movie in fear. It looks like shit, but the funny thing is even if it's great it's probably going to bomb.

it is crap. What the fuck is that shitty song? This movie definitely looks no good and the more is sen the worse it looks. And the score is by Graemme Revell, that alone tells you the movie is crap.

    Okay choreography...

    by lujho

...but not very well filmed. Not one wide-shot to show us what's actually going on in the fight. I still think this film can go either way. If the script and acting (which we've not seen all that much of yet) are up to par then it'll be good enough for me... I'd love for it to be better but I'm not the biggest DD fan in the world. Now If this was Batman starring Ben Affleck with a black actor as the Joker and MSJ driecting, I'd be steeling myself for disappointment.

    Dialogue Without Fear

    by boris the blade

Ok....I'm pretty much convinced that the dialogue will kill this flick. The only line readings I've been semi-pleased with were from Farrell... "What do you want? Justice", "Time to give the Devil his due!", "I didn't kill your father, Liar!" good god.....

I pretty much said the same thing on the last talkback regarding this film and the negativity of some of these talkbackers. Coming on here and slamming movies they haven't seen yet makes them feel good about themselves. Children.

Although i agree with Boris that the best dialogue in any trailer yet all belongs to the lovely Colin. But there was a rather dodgy bit of choreography/CGI when she landed on the roof which worries me a little. Whatever, looks like fun.

....the movie will bomb! I'm a huge DD fan (The Frank Miller version, anyways) but even I know this character can't "open" a movie, much less with Ben (I-suck-the-life-out-of-every-movie) Affleck starring in it. I'm going to see this movie and I'll give it a fair chance, but from the previews so far it doesn't have much hope for me.

A good song - but wrong here.

    by damitol

...is getting some airplay here in Dallas, and is actually a pretty decent song just to listen to, but is completely inappropriate in this clip. It's obviously the mandatory "fade to black, start pop song, roll credits" song and probably won't play in the movie itself. For what it's worth, like it or hate it, the song wipes the floor with that crap song they dug up for Spiderman. Anyway - to present the rare optimist view in a talk back - the Garner training shots could be cool with the right soundtrack, but the fight was lackluster at best. Fingers crossed this is from an early cut. And - the right music can make a mediocre scene or break a brilliantly shot one. Case in point - the Warg attack in the Two Towers TV preview was weak with *no* music, while the film version was a slightly tighter cut and, of course, had music. Night and day. As to whether this will hold true with DD, we'll see in three weeks.

    by boris the blade

Yes, I've been a negative nelly about this opening, ok, here: I thought the shot of DD on top of the cross in the trailer was very "Miller-esque". Hopefully the rest of the film will feel the same... Oh, and agreed with the Rev, I hope to be making a "DD" outline with my spunk that night, not geeking it up with a bunch of stoolpushers who just "looooove" Ben....

  • The clip would be cool if: 1) There were far less sai twirling because it's unconvincing anyway. B)The wire work was more believable. iii) that stupid song wasn't being sung over the action like it was a psuedo-montage sequence. $) Ben 'da bomb in phantoms, yo' Affleck wasn't in it. Nia Vardalos will play Elektra in Daredevil II

    by lord shatner

After receiving thousands of negative emails, producers of Daredevil have announced that Jennifer Garner will not play Elektra in the sequel. "We made a terrible mistake," said producer Avi Arad. "Actors should only play characters of their own ethnicity, otherwise it's not believable.'' Arad also said that Michael Clarke Duncan will not return as the Kingpin, a character that was white in the comic books. "We are going to hire the whitest actor we can find," he said. "We are giving special preference to albinos, limeys, and Michael Jackson."

    Reply to Talkback

  • this clip was fairly watchable, sure QT is better but at least Real isn't so bad anymore that it's worth skipping. anyway, the music by itself would probably be good, but if its used in the movie this way it will SUCK BALLS and date the movie forever. this looked like 2 scenes edited together tho, so i doubt this is the actual music that will be used over these scenes.

    by cassius clay

What's with the crappy pop music? Is this a video or a movie? I guess I can see using some instrumental rock stuff but the vocals kill any sense of realism. Can't the giant marketing machine back off for one second? Is anyone else sick of all this soudtrack/movie cross promotion bull-shite? Use music that approriately underscores and enhances the story- not some pop shite that the giant studio/record-label conglomerate wants to push down your throat.

Corporate rock still sucks... And so do corporate movies...

I love the emphasis on action.

    by kong33

That's one thing we haven't really seen in a superhero flick: good action/fights. It's nowhere near Matrix-level, but it's trying. All of that would have been good for the trailer, maybe this film is actually saving the best stuff for the theatrical cut? We can only hope. It didn't seem so commercial and empty there, the delivery was a *little* better, and to see them both training, DD training just like a blind guy would... cool. I always knew I would see this, but I'm getting closer to wanting to go.

    by kid icarus

Now, I haven't seen the film but I have read the script. I loved it... gritty, mature, and intended for an adult audience. Yesterday, I saw an ad for the film on TV and at the end what did I see? Rated PG-13!!! This really confuses me. I was expecting (from the script) an R rated film much in the vain of The Matrix. Something made for adults. I have no problem with PG-13 films, but it's getting to be ridiculous. They must have really done some SERIOUS trimming to this script. Sad really... why do I have a feeling Matrix 2 and 3 will be PG-13 too...

    by defiant

Fighting was decent but the uneccassary slow motion really hurt it. I also hope this is a made for web clip and it doesn't go straight from training to fight in the finished film cause it didn't flow well. The dialogue now has me worried with that "remeber me murderer?" line. Finally the music was decent in the training but annoying during the fight where a score would be far more appropriate.

Elektra holds her sais like a girl. Looks like a late night, Tor

    by devil goat

I could go on about my childhood love of daredevil... if the posters and trailers already out weren't enough, this footage has instantly made me disavow any knowledge of anything Daredevil-related.

That awful, embarrassing "chick-theme" vomitune... so what other wonder-hits will they have on the soundtrack?

ugh. And get a load of "that jump"--whoooooshhhhhhhhh ( elektra has hovering powers I hear) or howabout any of the moves Elektra and Affleck can pull off in those sad costumes.
    (Squeak---rutchh---huff huff----swing--skweeek).
This will be on so many "worst of 2003" lists. Maybe get a gang of hecklers together... and find out everyone else in the theatre came to do the same.
And between this and KILL BILL, why does the footage released appear that no one taught these lovely ladies how to hold, swing, and otherwise massacre with a sword? I at least retain hope that KILL BILL will be worthwhile. Hey, look at ThunderChick or whoever was in Conan. Different style, sure, but man you won't see ELEKTRA airbrushed on anyone's van cause movie-Elektra looks less and less like Elektra the more I see too..yucki

Other than that, I'll wait and see the film before anything else.
