Jason Scott Lee talks about LILO & STITCH 2, sequels to DRACULA 2000 & TIME COP!!!

Published at:  Jan 09, 2003 4:50:56 AM CST

Hey folks Harry here with a whole series of sequels that I don't want to see anytime soon. Now, I used to love Jason Scott Lee, back around the time of DRAGON: THE BRUCE LEE STORY - but then he made SOLDIER and was just god awful in it... and while I don't really blame him - obviously that was Paul Anderson's incompetent fault - but I really need to see him in several great parts to was clean the stain from my memory... somehow I don't think these sequels are the path to that. Here ya go...

JASON SCOTT LEE on Dracula II : Ascension, Time Cop 2, Time Cop 3 and Lilo and Stitch 2

MovieHole.Net talks to Jason Scott Lee today, who talks about the "Dracula 2000" sequels, as well as "Time Cop 2" and "Lilo and Stitch 2", and reveals that he won't be returning in the recently proposed "Time Cop 3".

Next year, you'll be seen in the "Dracula" films and also "TimeCop 2", can you tell me a bit about both experiences?

They were both wonderful experiences!!! I exeptionally enjoyed working with Patrick Lussier, the director of the "Dracula" films. I would love to work on another project with him.

Any pressure on TimeCop 2, because you've replaced Van Damme?

None whatsoever

The "Dracula" films are something different for you. Are you a horror fan?

Not in particular, although I like to be scared if watching a movie.

Congratulations on the success of "Lilo and Stitch". Was it that it was set in Hawaii the reason you opted to do it? and we will see you in the sequel?

I loved it for the fact that I could shape some of the dialogue with the local dialect. To give the film some credibility to the Hawaiian characters in the movie. Yes, I will be doing the sequel.

I'm hearing rumours of a possible "TimeCop" franchise - and possible TV series - would that involve you?

No. The "Timecop" film was a one shot deal for me. Sci-fi was never a real interest for me, but the action was what lured me to the project.

Finally, what's next for you filmwise?

There's a few projects floating around as well as a possible venture into directing, so we'll see what happens next.

The full interview - in which he also talks about martial-arts training and his beginngings - can be found at MovieHole.Net

Lilo Stitch 2 I could handle. The first movie was about as good as Disney has got (outside of Pixar) for a long fuckin time. But a Dracula 2000 sequel? Dracula 2000 was the worst..... Dracula..... film..... ever. A sequel doesn't bear thinking about. Timecop wasn't terrible. It was an aimiable enough sci-fi/action/van dammit flick. A sequel is however, not even slightly welcome. And a 3rd part? Jesus......... Jason Scott Lee.... welcome... to DTV avenue. Please close the door on your way in....

A "future" TimeCop series. ABC had a Time Cop series a few years back, it lasted, like what, a few weeks? And a TimeCop 3? What is that gonna be, Direct-to-Bargain-Bin?? (DTBB)

    by swoosh04

I agree that Dracula 2000 had plenty of plot holes and a couple of pretty bad spots. But it was fun. And I felt like underneath it all it had the best interesting/different premise of any dracula movie in a long time.

Sequels to TimeCop & Dracula 2000?

    by bad guy

Someone hold my place in line, please. God knows I've been holding my breath waiting for these two. Lee is a decent actor, and these are the best roles he can get??!! WTF!!! Hollywood and it's narrowminded casting really sucks. I get so sick of seeing the same three or four actors in every part. Why couldn't Lee get cast in the Collin Farrell part in "Minority Report", for instance? And what the hell happened to that Green Hornet & Kato movie? It was nice that he got to do a voice-over in "Lilo & Stitch", a legitimate movie that people would actually see, but come on. And does Disney have to do a sequel to "every" movie now? Let me guess, direct to video, right? Okay, rant over.

  • Dracula 2000 was beyond terrible. The Dracula was really Judas twist was really one for the books. And the actor they got for Dracula wasn't the least bit scary. They needed someone who could give off the vibe of "I AM A MONSTER" like Christopher Lee could and they just got a pretty boy (and this is the guy who is a front runner for Bond when Brosnan retires?). They don't need sequels for Dracula 2000, they need to reboot and try again with a different take.

    tits on film

    by alexnivek

Not only do we need more tits on film, we need more tits in horror movies. Mainly, because most horror movies suck. All the old slasher flicks, like the Friday the 13th movies, always had topless girls. That was part of the bargain: in return for a ticket, you got cheesy cartoon violence, and naked chicks. Nowadays, even the crap horror movies have no tits. No tits in any of the Scream films, especially Scream 3, which would have been a lot better if Kelly Rutherford, Jenny McCarthy, and Emily Mortimer had gotten naked. No tits in the godawful "I Know What You Did Last Summer" movies. How does Jennifer Love Hewitt keep getting work? Fantastic tits, BUT SHE WON'T SHOW THEM. God knows it isn't talent; I've seen better actresses in community theater. What can we, as ticket-buying fans, do to encourage Hollywood to liberate tits from the Cinemax ghetto and let them back into mainstream films?

I concur about the toplessness issue. Let us pass this bill

    by enigmainyourhead

When I was 16, I could always count on tits when I wanted to see them by renting a 80s horror flick. Now thankfully there's the internet with it's vast amounts of nudity. But topless women running from an axe-wielding freak is a time honoured tradition in film and should not be lost.

And any Vampire film with no sex is like a World War II movie without guns. Vampies are all about temptation, lust and blood.

    absolutely

    by alexnivek

Tits in vampire movies. Honestly, just a must. Look at "Interview With the Vampire." The only thing that even partially redeemed that disaster was the nude scenes. Seriously, the "theater des vampires" scene almost made it worth watching.

How does one choose? I'll just throw out a short list: Jeri Ryan, Salma Hayek, Laura San Giacomo, Leah Rimini, Kelly Brook (British starlet, prominently featured in the "next Mission Impossible Babe?" story here this week), Nikki Cox, Elisha Cuthbert, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Christina Ricci pre-surgery. This list was compiled without regards to the real/fake conundrum.

    Timecop is good!

    by kdoc13

Ok, I am goign to be the first to admit that it is never going to be on any top 100 list of science fiction flicks. But lets quickly examine some of the drek that has been passed off in front of us as "good Sci Fi." For example, Freejack. Boy, you want to talk torture! I would gladly take Timecop instead of the last two star trek flicks too. How about Dark Planet. Creepy, yes. But story-none, and visuals were weak. That was supposed to be "true scifi." It is easy to hate Van Damme. Heck, I routinely hack on his movies, and am in no way a fan. But Timecop isn't a bad flick. If done right, I would welcome a Timecop 2. As for Jason Scott Lee, what the hell happened to this guy? I always remember him from Born in East LA, and he was pretty good in Jungle Book. But Dragon, that should have made this guy huge! What happened.

I was a teen in the 80's and that's what you did. You went and saw slasher films for boobage. That is it. Bad girls get slashed and good girl survive. But to set up the bad girl premise, you needed to see their boobage. Now, it's like, okay, the chicks are hotter but they don't show anything.

    A "Dracula 2000" sequel?

    by night_trekker

Brahm Stoker is spinning wildly in his grave. What the fuck IS this shit? Were's my ass-kicking Castlevania flick? (On second thought, they'd probably cast David Schwimmer as Simon Belmont, so forget that) Honestly, I never saw the first one, and I don't think I ever will. There's a whole list of things that "2000" shouldn't be tacked onto, and that's just one of them. If that gets green-lighted, I expect- DEMAND- that another "Bill and Ted" movie be made. You know, to preserve the equalibrium.

    DRACULA 2000?

    by telescreen

This film was the absolute worst piece of fucking garbage I have ever seen in theaters. And I've seen a lot of crap. Hell it was free the second time, but even then I would've just left had I not been with a complete fucking idiot of a girl. And a bunch of fucking fat poser fags. To say that this movie is somehow one of those "fun if you turn your brain off" movies is a pure fucking insult to movies like Starship Troopers and come to think of it, most of Verhoevens work as a whole. Timecop was a decent sort of b movie, and had cool effects for its time though... Ok so I liked it a lot, I admit it. But point is... Draula 2000 was sooooo god awful, and the judas idea was such fucking 5th grade shit.. "hey, wouldn't it be cool if judas was dracula, wow lets make a movie" god. I'm too pissed off to bother with this shit anymore, but if there is any supreme being at all, there will be no dracula 2004

As for renting porn instead of movies with nudity.. Fuck that. For one thing, actresses are ALWAYS hotter than some loose cokehead with implants. Secondly, story and character development somehow increases the hotness of the naked woman. It's not just some slut who fucks for money. Porno is only good for laughs. Remember Kelly MacDonald in Trainspotting? daaamn... i'm only 1 year past being a minor i should note after having said that

Dude, Dracula 2000: 2 *could* be cool if they got with the guys doing the "Sword of Dracula" comic and gave Drac *those* powers. I saw a preview of this at a con and damn-- we've never seen King Drac the way he'll look there. That's this Halloween. There's an early site at http://www.swordofdracula.com .
