Published at:  Dec 18, 2002 9:11:04 PM CST

I am – Hercules!!

"I'm not getting on this train!"

With the twin models out of the picture, will miserable Flo actually eat poor Zach alive?

Will O Brother’s enduring and canny good nature win them the big prize?

Or will oldsters Teri and Ian use their winnings to finance their own divorce?

Bandwidth. Predictions. Reactions.

I am – Hercules!!

How many of you thought the last episode SUCKED?!?!

    by dooofus2002

I thought it was terrible, and it wasn't just because that beeeyatch Flo ended up being on the winning team. No, it sucked because it should have been set up such that there was some skill involved making you earn first place at the end. Instead, it came down to luck - Ken and Gerard (who were great Racers) just didn't get lucky and couldn't get a cab which was SOLELY what cost them the race. On the other hand, Flo and Zach (easily the worst Racers of the final three), got lucky so they won. Now, luck is undeniably a part of TAR, but I really feel that during the last leg every effort should be made to minimize the luck factor - and to that end, the producers failed miserably. In my opinion, the entire episode should have started in Seattle so there could be more time for the teams to do different tasks and earn there way to the end spot. The entire time in Hawaii was a waste since it was obvious they would all be bunched up by the time they reached Seattle - why not just start it in Seattle and give the teams more tasks?

I love Amazing Race, but since some of you are turning this into

    by darthcorleone

...I just gotta say that ending last night ruled. I always eagerly await the shift back to fullscreen after the final splitscreen -- that final dramatic moment that ends the hour and leaves you waiting for next week. But what's this? An odd dramatic final moment? Jack musing about Teri and finally talking to Nina about what she had done to his life. I sat there thinking, "This is a different way to end than usual, but it's actually kind of cool." But then, BAM!!!!! The plane has an explosion onboard...or it's been hit by a missile...absolute mayhem. Wow. As for Amazing Race 3, I agree Ken and Gerard were the most deserving. Flo was absolutely excruciating to watch, but she was pretty cute. That made me wish I was the guy who was dealing with her neuroses/attitude and thus earning points with her. Plus, I'm glad Zack won, because he deserves the award for most patient person of all time having had to put up with her meltdowns. As for Teri and Ian, they were unquestionably my least favorite. Could he have berated his wife any worse over the course of the race? I really want to get on that show. Anyone want to apply with me? I'm young, pseudo-fit, ultracompetitive, and of above average intelligence.

I'm just gonna seize this Talkback in the name of 24

    by sphere'02

I had every intention of seeing the end of The Amazing Race (after only getting into it two episodes ago), but if that whiny chick won... well I didn't miss anything then. I'd have just been pissed off.***** So anyway, on 24...Jesus. Do the writers on that show get together and brainstorm over what painfully asinine act Kim is going to commit each episode? "Umm, how about we have her announce the nuclear threat to some jarhead cop next week, hmm?" And while I'm not one of those who hates the sideplots on the show, I have to admit that this weeks' episode had some pretty ludicrous logic. From the behaviour of the cop ("Well, we just found a dead body in your trunk, but I'm gonna let you sit in the front seat with me. Fuck it. Let's sing some road songs on the way to the station.") to the crazy Aryan-dream queens' wildly guessed second-hand detective work, I can't help but stare at the screen in shock at the utter lack of realism. I mean, they're asking viewers for some suspension of disbelief at superhuman levels.

    The Producers' Responsibility

    by cynhounds

...should have been to throw out a stop strip in front of Zach and whiney, nasty, "I can't do it," "I give up," Flo's cab. Shoot out a front tire. Anything to prevent this team from winning. I felt bad for Zach, burdened by this sorry excuse for a human being. If she isn't embarrassed by her behavior, she should be, and ought to spend a substantial amount of her prize money on the therapy she so clearly needs. I loved this show, but I'm not sure I can watch it in the future unless they remove more of the luck factor and make skill (both navigation and human relations) more important.

Zack should get the million, Flo should get nothing and like it

    by buck mclargehuge

At least Teri and Ian didn't win. I agree the final run was more luck than anything else. Let's see, whoever can hail a cab quickest wins a million dollars? Sounds good to me.

She needs to take 100k and boost those suckers up at least 3 cup

    by bannthisucommies

She shouldn't get more than that 100k anyways. Zach should have at least 90%, maybe 95%. Better yet he keeps the whole Million and she pays the taxes. Tery & Ian were on each others case. One episode he'd go off the next she'd launch. Its a balance rarely seen since the Klintons were in the White (Did Billy stain it that color) House. Worst line in the history of BTVS: "Don't hog the covers" Vile vile vile.

    Wasn't All Luck

    by thorn ms

The last leg has always been somewhat of a straight out race, so this was nothing different. That's why positioning was critical for the last leg. Yet, remember, if not for the rain delay, the early ticket holders on the flight to Seattle would have had a team advantage. As Teri said, "we weren't smart enough." She was right, and that should have cost them the race. So it wasn't all chance. That said tho, there were too many opportunities for everyone to catch up, such as waiting for something that didn't open till 10am. Also, I hated Teri and Ian for the first 2/3rds of the race, but in the end, I had to give them credit for being on fire and playing to win. They did a great job and earned it, unlike Flo-ho. I would have preferred the brothers to win, they were also on fire, but I would have been happy with Teri and Ian, too. Certainly didn't want Flo to win. She didn't, really, cause at the heart of her character, she is a Loser. Capital "L"

    Rain delay

    by frumious b

It had no impact since they would have been bunched up at the airport in Hawaii. I agree that the Hawaii part was a waste of time. If they would have gone directly to Seattle, the rain delay would have been a big factor. I loved the show, but it is frustrating that the teams that played smart and pulled ahead ended up always getting bunched up again with the losers. I understand that you want to keep the race close, but too many sections of the race ended up being pointless. Kind of like Quidditch.

I was rooting for Teri & Ian after the wonder twins lost

    by eyegore

I know he was gruff and demanding "Come on Teri move it!" but she didn't hold it against him and quite a few times she turned it right back on him and neither held a grudge. They both kept going all the way to the end. I hate it when the teams all get jammed up at an airport or attraction that doesn't open until a certain time. That's the worst part of the show that the producers should REALLY try to cut to a minimum. I know it leads to some dramatic moments when all the teams are bunched up close running into each other all the time, but it kills a lot of the skill factor. So many times I've seen teams leave with at least a two hour head start on some other teams only to find themselves stuck in some lobby waiting for a flight or a train or whatever. I loved the end of the first one where the evil gay guys finished the race 24 hours after the winners. That was great.

Another reason you should have done a '24' talkback ...

    by groovy_chainsaw

... is that it'll be pre-empted for the next two weeks. When the show returns (next year) you'll have quite a bit of catchin' up to do, Herc ! (I'm just sayin')

    Robbed!!!

    by onemom2nv

The queer/straight brother duo was absolutely robbed! I hope Flo uses the payola for some therapy and Zach uses it to get as far away from Flo as humanly possible! I hope Teri and Ian watch themselves on tv and Teri gets the balls to finally stand up to that creep of a husband she's got. Thanks to all you folks who jacked this talkback for the good cause: 24!
