Zooey Bartlet Returns To WEST WING!!

Yeah, when Charlie said to C.J., “I do okay,” Herc thought to himself, “Yeah! Where has that hot little first daughter been hiding herself?”
Well, she’s back. And tonight, I fear, is likely the last “West Wing” we’ll see this year, which therefore occasions a talkback.
Apropos of nothing, tonight is also NBC’s Tim Busfield recurring-character night. He reprises his older brother role on “Ed” at 8 p.m. and reporter Danny Kincannon on “Wing” at 9. (Would it have killed Dick Wolf to dress a “Law & Order” corpse like Busfield’s “Revenge of the Nerds” character too, just to freak us all out?)

It's two days before Christmas and who should appear but reporter Danny Concannon (Timothy Busfield). He's dressed as St. Nick, but isn't spreading good cheer. Also showing up at the White House is Toby's father (Toby isn't exactly pleased to see him); Bartlet's daughter Zooey, who's accompanied by her French boyfriend (Charlie isn't pleased to see him); and psychiatrist Stanley Keyworth (Adam Arkin), to whom both Bartlet and Leo complain about concentration lapses. Meanwhile, the president decides to rip up the HHS budget just before it's due at the printer's. That'll mean a lot of work over the holidays.

Come on NBC and Warner Bros. invite Kiefer to do a guest star one episode where Bauer is brought in to save the day. He could prevent another assassination attempt against Bartlett then go back to 24 to save L.A. Jack Bauer TV Hero for all major networks. He could even pop in on the WB and be in on Smallville or the Gilmore Girls then hop over to UPN for a Twilight Zone episode and an Enterprise episode, let's use this guy to the maximum now he's great. For ABC he can be the special guest announcer in the booth on Monday Night Football and for CBS he can visit his old friends on Long Island the Everybody Loves Raymond gang for some good clean fun in Suburbia palling around with Raymond and Robert. Jack Bauer is much too good to be limited just to Fox.

No... I don't think those uses of psychological help are early enought... I'm sure someone did it before 1967's "The President's Analyst" with James Coburn as Dr. Sidney Schaefer taking on the CEA, FBR, & The Phone Company.

Since we hardly ever get West Wing talkbacks I'd like to bring up some things from previous episodes. The last new episode had what I think is the most amazing Toby Zeigler scene ever. Writers are always at their best when they work from experience, and Sorkin was clearly doing this in that amazing scene. It felt like Sorkin talking about his feelings during the first few episodes of last season, when he just wasn't rocking the way he usually does. I think anyone who writes can agree that was one of the best (if not the best) expression of what it's like to write. Absolutely amazing, and I'm really liking Rob Lowe's replacement.

Yeah, that last scene with Tobey really did have a spark to it. I hope they keep it up, and I hope Will Bailey isn't going to just be a recurring character like Ansley Hayes--who's probably dead in that basement never to be found again with Sam gone and the actress on another show. I don't think they ever really knew what to do with Sam actually, he never quite had a direction and I don't think he interested Sorkin as much as say Tobey or Josh and Donna. And of course, I am really glad to hear Danny's back, but I hope he'll stick around for a while because CJ needs to burry that body guard storyline once and for all.

I'm a fan of the show and I'm about as liberal as you can get, but something is missing this season and it's really starting to bug me. That something is smart conservatives. It used to be you could count on anyone's viewpoint (left or right) being challenged in an intelligent way. Several times last year I felt I learned something, changed MY viewpoint. Now Bartlett and his team are more like superheroes, brushing aside republicans (and their issues) like so many upper-middle class ants. Bark.

OK so "Birds of Prey" doesn't become a smash in the ratings like Smallville did, it falls down to about 5,6 million viewers a night so the WB cancells it. They then decide to move "Angel" which had only been averaging the same amount of veiwers as BOP on to it's timeslot opposite "The West Wing". This is even stupider that moving Angel to Sundays in the first place. Pitting two great shows in thier fourth season against each other with ABC's evil Bachelorette just around the corner as well.

I am about as conservative as they come. It is sad that the best they could do was Ritchie... I mean that guy was a total moron. One of the reasons I like this show is that the dialogue is smart, regardless of the politics being discussed. I miss Ainsley Hayes, she was smart and easy on the eyes to. I can accept that this is a liberal show, and I realize that won't change but we need some smart conservatives to balance things out.

Of course we all miss her, but it's not Sorkin's falt. We just have to hope that the crappy spinoff of the crappy CSI gets cancelled. Sigh, the ratings speak of stupidity. Anyway, this was another great installment of the best show on television. I was a bit worried about the hole Rob Lowe's absence might leave, but Josh Malina has much better chemistry with Richard Schiff, and he's already a lot more interesting. Lowe will be back in about three years to run for president, that's cool, but until then I don't think it'll be much of a problem. Danny's return is perfect. I mean what other reporter in the West Wing world would you have figure out the Sharif thing? Just awesome, and it's nice Leo pointed out the mirroring of the original MS storyline. Oh and Zooey's new boyfriend looks a lot like her. I know I'm rooting for Charlie.

It occurs to me that the reason Lowe couldn't get the money that he wanted was because WW is an ensemble show. Martin Sheen makes 300,000 an episode and he's the President, closest thing to the star of this ensemble piece.
I bet (Hollywood bucks) that Lowe pops up as Sam Seaborne in his own show next year, playing as the Senator in Orange County, with some opportunities for crossovers, guest shots, etc. And Lowe gets himself paid and the production company gets another cash cow..

The flashback was 1952 or 1954, right? Murder Inc was long finished by then. It was really only something from 1930 through the early 1940's. It was a greate opening scene though.

Yes, that may be true, but if the Democrats could also stop whining amongst themselves and come up with a better candidate than Al Gore (seems like a nice guy, but has the enthusiasm level of my big toe) they wouldn't need to have worried about Clinton's actions. In fact, if Gore had touted the good things about Clinton's presidency (good economy, drop in unemployment, paying down the debt), he might have been elected. I also agree that the show is not much fun without intelligent conservatives. I don't agree with conservatives 96% of the time, but I know that most of them are smarter than guys like Ritchie, Trent Lott's recent comments aside. And yes, I believe Ritchie is a somewhat loose combination of Dubya and brother Jeb (Ritchie's from Florida, right?). Back on the subject of real politics, if Gore or Lieberman run and get the nomination, I'm voting Green. Nominating either one of them would put the final stake in the Democrats' coffin.

not only is it a good point about a liberal prez having conservative staffers, but all the conservative view points that have benn prevalent on the show, came from election opponents, people who were running against or helping those running against the bartlett camp. well, bartlett won, there are no more elections opponents to feature. give it time, once the new administartion gets settled (Sam still has a campaign, and when --not if-- he wins they'll replace him in the white house with Will Bailey (did anyone notice Josh Malina appearing in the main credits this time)) when all of the administrative bull is out of the way, then we'll get into more issues oriented drama and back into the day to day, conservative congress trying to trip up the liberal prez west wing drama, and all you fans who want to see both sides of the issues argued will be satiated. But dont count on too much. it wouldn't be realistic for a liberal admin. to give to much weight to the ideas of the conservative in the capital, or vice versa.

(and I'm just opening myself up to all manner of attacks) that Sorkin wrote the Republican characters, particularly Ritchie, as complete idiots. Hell, during the debate, everytime Ritchie tried to make a relevant point (yet couldn't, because he was only as good as Sorkin's script), Bartlett would counter with such a confident, witty response that it made Ritchie look like a troglidyte. Naturally, all the Republican characters of the show are set up and destined to fail. But alas, it's a show written by liberals, for liberals, starring liberals. And Aaron has to be a little hot-under-the-collar over the last election. I'm looking forward to some scathing liberal temper-tantrums from him in the upcoming scripts. This show must be therapy for him.

Have you forgotten about Ainsley Hayes? I honestly can't remember her losing a single debate! And if you look at the current Republican administration you can't deny Ritchie was based on the facts, in fact he was much more well spoken then Bush. Give it time, once the new Congress convenes we'll get back to political debate.

I have'nt noticed any Democratic senators getting misty eyed for the days of segregation, although to be fair, Robert Byrd probably agrees with Lott, but is smart enough not to say so. But Lotts bigotry has been well known for a long time, he used to have his own column on a white supremecist website, but the media wasn't interested. I have to hand it to the republicans on this one, they have been the ones drawing attention to this, the media did its best to ignore it, as did the Democrats.
