But pretty much just as uneventful. Why delay the Furio/Carmela subplot? Why have Paulie whack an old lady? I mean, it was GOOD, but it should have been GREAT. This better be one helluva 75-minute season finale.

a decent episode that really appears to have led to some serious shit going down during the finale. of course, it seems ive been saying that all season. i have to think paulie is the one who gets whacked in that previewed shooting by little paulie. i dont really dig how they just dropped the furio / carmela thing like that. id have much rather seen that get taken care of via whacking. i didnt really miss meadow all that much, but damn, she is getting hotter and hotter. aj's fart scene was fantastic. thats all for now.

Where is this show going? The Sopranos as the X-Files.

    by graham_minnesota

I believe that in almost every episode, something of interesting and humourous value can be drawn from the story. Wether it is Pauly Walnuts smelling Adrianna's undergarments or Tony Soprano's disturbing dream with an unknown, darkened female figure standing on a stairwell. But what the hell is it with these rather mundane episodes with so many trailing sub-plots. It is starting to look as though The Soprano's is going to go the way of the X-Files. So many interesting storylines (most notably the escaped Russian), that are never resolved. Great set-ups, horrible resolution. To make matters worse, most of the characters are so damn unappealing, that there is almost no reason to watch (e.g. Meadow. I am getting so sick of her stupid shit. Why is it that she thinks that she is the only one who has the right to complain. Diddo for Anthony Jr. as well.) After the death of Ralph Ciferetto (easily one of the more dynamic and interesting characters on the show) and the sudden personality change of Furio (his character used to be so intimidating -- and no, I am not saying that if I ran in to him in an alley I would not run the other way -- but he has turned into such a weak ass pussy) it's getting to be as dry as toast. And now Pauly has become so incredibly pathetic. Now there is talk of a "Soprano's" movie?

I Know that the show may not be as great as it was in the past, but who gives a fuck. it is still enter-fuckin-taining and better than any other show on t.v . if the finally sucks and they make a 5th season or a movie, ill still dish out my cash to see it because it's the best thing out there.

THE TRUTH! (and then I go sleeping)

    by imageburn13

SO! One episode left. its gettin mighty close to high-noon. My thoughts, after careful deliberation, are that Paulie will definietly be taken out. MY reason? Well, if you look at that wonderful picture/montage plastered all over the subways and busses here in NYC, and you look at Paulie there, in the mirror, his reflection has his face pointing in the other direction. Its JUST a thought, but after I studied that pic, I was like, ohh, too damn obvious. TWO FACED!! Hes a fuckin RAT! We'll see that sneaky fuckin russian special ops guy the last episode, I'm willing to bet monay. And he's gonna be pissed off. Either he kills him, or Tonaay does. (Frankly I'd like to see Christofaa do some cleaning. Look at the picture and get back to me! ((lastly, isn't Pine Barrens rated one of the best episodes?) (Am I wrong?)

    no russians

    by crotch crickets

its kind of amusing to see people keep talking about the russians like that plot will be making a comeback after about 16 episodes have come and gone without them. listen, i thought that pine barrens episode was one of the best ever. i thought that storyline should have been continued in some fashion. but not now. it seems to me most people complain about this season having too many storylines to follow and keep up on properly. and now you think that the russians would be magically thrown in next week after nothing for so long? get real. theres NO chance thatll happen, at least not this season. besides, am i the only one who remembers someone from the show, (chase?), saying that a few unfinished storylines from last season, (like Melf's rape and the russian), would not be touched upon again, or am i wrong about that? i seem to remember something like that. at any rate, the season has been so jumbled, the last episode is going to have to do a great job of tying a lot of things together. reintroducing the russians would only clutter it up further.

I do not believe that people are complaining that they want or even expect certain story lines to be picked up upon (They are very "real" about this.) The point that is being made, is that there COULD have been some very excellent follow ups, but the show did so little if anything with them, which made it all the more stale.

find carmela annoying. i mean she is acting like a 16 year old school girl who lost her first boyfriend and not a 40 something mother of two. come on now did you see how pathetic she looked whe she was looking into furio's window. she also has to understand that furio leaving was the only choice there was. he could never nail her or else he would be swimming with the fishes. just like his uncle said the only way he could get carmelo was to wack the boss i.e. tony. carmelo thinks she is getting back at tony for all of his side action. hell no. the only thing she would get is another dead wise guy. you do not mess with the bosses wife if you want to live long. carmelos friend said it best they live in a different world. and you know she did not go into the relationship blind. hopefully the season final will be better than the rest of the season.

    Great season (spoilers)

    by larsii

This has been the best season since the first two. You want continuing story lines, go watch days of our lives? This last episode was absolutely great. The show has thrown enought curveballs that I actually thought for a moment Furio would push Tony into the blade. Him taking off to Italy is a fine, and it was not a resolution to the story line, as the last scene of the episode showed. This season has been filled with great moments (Tony and Artie's scene in the hospital, Tony whipping Boone, Tony and his daughter having it out in the first or second episode, the dinner party last night, Silvio and Paulie having it out last night, i could go on). This show has always been about finding meaning and happiness in present day America. It's never really been about who gets whacked, and if all the payoffs were people get whacked, it would be the best show ever produced for TV.

great season my ass-wasted season is more like it.

    by anyawatcher

Hey Lars what show are you watching? The Soprano's sucked this year. It's been on a downslide since Tony's mamma died. Nancy Marchand was great but they should have gotten an actress who didn't have cancer and had a strong chance of dying. With her dead alot of what The Soprano's was about died too. What happened to the family interaction? to the therapy sessions? gone. And Lars, you thought Furio was gonna push Tony into the blades? It's called season 5. no Tony, no Sopranos. Can someone try and tell me what this season was about? Was there any interesting storyline? A couple people getting clipped in the last episode won't save the season. You could have condensed the last 11 episode into maybe 1 very good episode. Which means The Sopranos get 30 Emmy nominations and sweeps the awards. 3 cheers for mediocrity.

    by darth taun taun

The best thing about not having a payoff to the Russian in Pine Barrens, and Furio's weak-ass departure, is that they could come back at any time. If/when they do, it will be that much more satisfying. This show has been known to let characters disappear for a looooong time before popping back up.

    It's the actors' agents' fault

    by daddypop

I need to defend the use of all these broken plots that have dragged down the show all season. There are several actors on the show who were asking for more and more money per episode (Jamie Lynn Siegler and Robert Iler asking for $100000 per episode from their current $30000 come to mind) so David Chase has written several of these plots setting up the eventuality of somebody having to make a quick disappearence from the show. Sure, it would be easy to just wack everyone, but that wouldn't be fair to the audience. Meadow following her boyfriend to Northwestern would be a good example. Furio leaving for Naples I think is just setting us up for something much bigger.

As to who gets wacked in the season finale, remember Isben's rule that if you see a gun in the first act of the play it has to be used in the third? If you go back to the begining of the season with Carmela harping on Tony to do estate planning and the indiciation that something's brewing against Carmine, why can't it be Tony AND Carmine? Set up the first few episodes next season of them the hospital, the power struggle that goes on among the captains?

    by joee60

The Furio thing is about Carmela, not Furio. Carmela is turning into the woman Tony's mother was...

Remember, Tony's Father wanted out of the mafia, but mother kept him in, and down. Observe how Tony's sister also manipulates her mafia boyfriends to get them do what they might not do otherwise.

In the dream sequences last week, Carmela is driving the car. Tony and Ralphie are passengers. Then Tony sees a woman at the top of the stairs. 'who is that woman?' His mother? His wife?

    What?!

    by diskjokk

I can't beleive that the majority of you all don't like the Soprano's this season. What?!

I happen to agree with one of the posters here who says that this is a good season and that all the little sub-plots are entertaining. Especially, if you have gotten to a point of really caring about the characters.

I actually do beleive that all of this is building up to something that will shock us all. Weren't we surprised just a couple of weeks ago when Ralph was killed?

And, just because this season doesn't have a lot of "whacking" going on, doesn't mean that the season is a total waste. There are a lot of interesting things going on this season: Paulie, and a question about his loyalty (that look on his face when Carmine didn't recognize him was classic!). That whole HUD deal and how it may play a role in an upcoming war between the two families. What the heck is Johnny Sac up to? How will Furio play in all this? Will Chris continue to use drugs after his rehab or will he become the kick ass Captain we all know he can be?

I dunno about you guys but this is one of the best shows on TV. If this season sucks so bad, why do you all continue to watch it? You seem to know as much about this show as the people who are enjoying this season of the Soprano's. Just a question.

    Finale Spoilers!

    by huffyhenry

Furio hasn't hopped a plane after all, and he returns to the Soprano house to take a crack at Carmela. When she opens the door, her eyes widen, she wets her lips, and in response Furio flips his ponytail around like, you know, only chicks should.

At that very moment, the lost Russian appears from behind one of the Sopranos' bushes (where he's been living off of grubs and drippings from AJ's greasy hair) and launches toward the door. So weakened is he by his meager diet and lack of clothing that Furio's ponytail knocks him down, killing him instantly.

Tony steps from another room and says, "Aaaaayyy, that's my Furio!"

And they all share a hearty laugh.

    It's Meadow!

    by 9000rpm

It's obvious she's getting killed/whacked next episode, maybe even in a hit that mistakes her for Tony.
It's been a great season - a literature professor here is running a course that claims The Sopranos is the closest thing to Shakespere out culture has created. The idiots criticizing this season's efforts miss the point of the series - to depict the decline of a mobster and his associates over a 4 - 5 season arc. The series will end with Tony stepping through the Gates of Hell, leaving the lives of everyone he's drawn into his circle poisoned by his touch. Obviously the tone of the later seasons will be significantly different from the first as we closer to Tony's demise.

    by homer sexual

I wish that phrase could be banned. Everyone uses that to defend everything. And if you don't love the USA, leave! And if you don't like my opinion, you suck! How many people are stuck in primary school?

I like the Sopranos, but this season (and last) have had too much set-up and too little payoff. So many subplots are introduced, then never followed up. (But Melfi's rape was settled: she decided against revenge, contrasting her to Tony) And what is the dealio with suddenly introducing a whole new Meadow storyline right before the season ends?

I really enjoy the Christopher/Adriana stories. Didn't like the Carmela/Furio subplot, but the resolution was fine. Paulie must die, there's no where else for his character to go.

Finally, I think Tony is gonna get shot. He has been pretty reprehensible this season. The only thing good to say about him lately is "he likes animals."

    How it will fall out.

    by riskebiz

Who get's whacked next week? Say goodbye to Johnny Sack and say goodbye to Meadow. Meadow dies in a car accident or something. I noticed the two shooting into the SUV were the two that wrecked Carmine's restaurant, so I can only assume that it is someone from Carmines family getting whacked. I can see Christopher getting whacked too, but he probably won't as I see him going into witness protection and turning over Tony as the series ender. I remember when Bobby was taking care of Junior and everyone was making fun of him and I was thinking that the series would end with him running the family and it seems to be heading that way. I'm glad to see Furio go, because that storyline with Carmella was stretching it. I can see her being attracted to him, but it's stretching it to think he would fall so hard for her. I think that was big misstep this year. I don't care of Furio ever comes back.

    Meadow's new storyline

    by 9000rpm

The renewed focus on Meadow is supposed to heighten the shock and grief when she gets 'rubbed out'. Such a shame - just when she was turning into a remarkable women. Oh, how I feel (and oh, how Carmella is going through the rook when her daughter dies as a result of Carmela's not leaving Tony. If Tony thought she was 'off' this season wait 'till next). Yeah, Johnny Sack is a strong candidate for whack #2, although it would make for a more provocative season ender to clip Carmine.

    SOMEBODY gets clipped!

    by hktelemacher

Max Casella can't just be shooting at the ground in the preview for the finale. I don't think Furio went back to Italy. It's the perfect alibi for him to come after Tony - as far as everyone else is concerned, he's history and nobody would look his way if Tony got whacked. I don't think he'll succeed, but I wouldn't put it past Chase and co. to take out Tony in the finale and do another season without him. Sadly, that's kind of the point the show is at. Tony is a great character and I don't want to see him go, but there can only be so many supporting characters introduced simply to die (Ralphie, Jackie Jr) before main guys start to fall. A NY/NJ war for season five would be great - just end it with some dignity and don't venture into feature films. As for the plots that never paid off, the Russian thing doesn't bug me, but what I've been waiting for are those old button men that were supposed to kill Johnny Sack - the guys that Christopher and Silvio went to go see earlier this season. They gave them a picture of Johnny and Tony together, and being senior citizens, it would be viable for them to get confused as to who to go after. Three old guys coming after Tony could walk that great Sopranos line between hilarity and morbidity. Also, what about Peter Riegert's state assemblymen (I think) character - maybe he would try and go through the channels to get to Tony. Wouldn't it be great if the shit just hit the fan and everybody and their brother came out of the woodwork and took a shot or two at T? Furio, Carmine, the old guys - hell, Silvio's been eyeing Tony's desk this whole season. Everything had better pay off nicely.
