Want To See A Trailer That'll Freak Your DooDoo Out' Check out JU-ON!!!

Harry here... Want to see a horror trailer better than all the American Horror films put together this year? As Dan Akyroyd said 20 years ago.... "Wanna see something really scary?" Check out the trailers below. This is a film that looks like it is prime time freaky shit. The sort of stuff that will give ya the willies and make that tingling on your leg form a cold dead white hand... The Japanese currently understand horror better than any country on the planet. They're light years ahead of the American Horror scene. They're not doing homages to the past, they're pioneering and clearing the way for future horror, and they're doing it better than I believe I've ever seen done before. They understand what is in the dark and what gives us the heebie-jeebies. THANK GOD SOMEONE DOES! Don't watch this trailer alone at night. I'm warning you...

Hi Harry,

I've just downloaded the trailer for "Ju-on" new Japanese horror flick coming January 2003 in Japan. It is based upon the original Japanese horror video series of the same title "Ju-on/Ju-on 2" released two years ago. The film is directed and written by Takashi Shimizu who also had same roles for the video series, and what's more, it is supervised by Hiroshi Takahashi (the writer of "Ghost Actress" and "The Ring" series) and Kiyoshi Kurosawa (the director of "CURE" and "Pulse").

Don't watch it alone at night...

Seems like a mix between Ringu and well...Mac and Me or whatever that cheapass ET rip off was called. Also some of this student film I saw on atomfilm.com called The Puzzle. I HIGHLY recomend it. It may BE scary, but doesn't seem it to me.

Then I watched the trailer. Well, it was a BIT creepy but more scary than...the last 10 years of horror movies or whatever? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..not quite.

    Quicktime is the scary part

    by WendellM

From the little snippets I could see in-between reloading the clip time after time, even with a 100 KBps connection, the movie looks OK. What's really scary is how many films cling to the rotting corpse of Apple to "promote" their trailers. Apple computers suck and their OS sucks (whenever whatever mutually-incompatible OS they're promiting at the time is stable enough between radical, incompatible changes; at least different versions of Windows generally work together). The only difference from Microsoft is that Apple isn't a bunch of evil demons trying to take over the world through dirty business practices; instead, they're technologically inept losers trying to take over with snazzy marketing and inferior content. It's a lose-lose situation. Unfortunately, the only thing worse than the Windows masses and Apple-heads are those poor, deluded souls using Linux and other *nix arrangements. Talk about lost - they think that their fringe OS holds hope for the mainstream future against the combined marketing muscle of evil Microsoft and incompetent, though quite artistic Apple. Sadly, we're all doomed to be boned up the ass by inferior computer standards for years to come, as this technologically-pathetic (though artistically-interesting) clip demonstrates. Maybe there'll be a realistic salvation someday.

    Sorry...

    by tcrichard

I didn't think that was scarey at all, but maybe that's just me.

    Quicktime/trailer rant

    by ILK

Ok, I have a 768 Sdsl connection, business class account. I should have no trouble streaming even the 500 speed stream. But even the 56k stream is unstable with little to no other traffic on my network. Why streaming?? Why not just like the other quicktime clips? The ones on apple.com! This paranoia crap eventually has to end. Does anyone really think profit can be made from the theft of a TRAILER!!?? Not being able to save something to your hard drive is one thing, but streaming it means it's mostly a messy sludge for even the best connected of us. .... Honestly, everyone needs to figure out that bandwidth is expensive. They could save literally MILLIONS that could be spent otherwise (see:paying people to come up with new, original ideas not based on novels/old tv shows/comics) if they would just let us do what we've wanted to do this whole time.... use our hard earned cash to pay for OUR bandwidth just to promote THEIR FILMS!! Good god, it's almost as stupid as cracking down on fan sites. Some people GET this. Does quicktime produce the highest quality trailers out there? Yes. Are they doing it right? No. In the end, it's silly to make it hard to download these clips, because people always find a way to capture them in some way. Why not just let it happen? Someone out there has to have the courage, they have to. THANK YOU LEGAL DEPARTMENT!.... But what I could make out of this clip gave me the CREEPS, although part of it was probably the combined frustration of not knowing what was an effect and what was the unintended superimposition of one scene over another through compression/streaming artifacts. BLARGH!!

    Destroy All Streaming!

    by Bizcotti

Good lord, what an exercise in fruastration. Even the 56K stream was cutting in and out. Looked freaky from what I saw. I think finding a bug eyed pasty zombie kid under your covers might ruin your whole day. Who ya gonna call? Michael Jackson!

  • Nov. 30, 2002, 10:13 p.m. CST

    Progressive Downloads

    by Fox Box

I really wanted to see this trailer but come on. It kept cutting out. Quicktime is cool but not as a stream. Jesue Fuck. I watch 25 min kung fu movies at www.kwoon.com (free by the way) and there is not problem because they use PROGRESSIVE DOWNLOADS which means it takes a bit longer but there is no buffering involved and none of that crap. Let me know when this is in a downloadable version like that wonderful TWO TOWERS Trailers....or Kwoon

    Awesome freaky trailer

    by Matolen

No way the MPAA would let something lose like that in the US with a "green-band", that was a terrific, upsetting trailer. Quicktime streaming is a vile and hateful thing, though, isn't it?

  • Dec. 1, 2002, 12:44 a.m. CST

Japanese Horror films and GOOD horror films alike.

    by MVisco

Where can I find some of these hyped up Japanese horror flicks for rental here in the states? And while we're on the topic, where can I find an actual scary movie? I am not talking blodd and guts and gore, but creep the hell out of me, scare the shit of me stuff. That final shot in the trailer with the woman seeing the ghost right under her covers... that's creepy shit.

  • Dec. 1, 2002, 12:50 a.m. CST

The choopy, streaming download killed the effect....

    by HappyHamster

It seemed like it *could* have been scary, but the choppy video and sound was pretty much a buzzkill. Oh well, it's not like we're getting this in the US anytime soon anyway. :(

The Koreans are kicking ass in the horror stakes, too.

    by Cash Bailey

I saw a Korean movie the other day called GAWI (NIGHTMARE) and it scared the shit out of me. It's basically a I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER kind of deal, but roughtly one million times better and scarier. I saw RING for the first time last night, too. Gotta love that ending!

Why oh why couldn't it just be a normal downloadable video, I really want to see it, it sounds so freakin creepy!!! Can somebody please give me a frame-by-frame analysis of what happened? No? Oh, well.

    I couldn't make out a singe image

    by Elwood Blues

How the hell is that terrible streaming trailer supposed to get people to want to see the movie? All I got was a few severely pixelated images that looked like impressionistic art with some audio in Japanese. I think I saw a kid's face in there somewhere... It could have been a hamburger too, I'm not sure.

    by frank cotton

i, for one, am sick of this quicktime ONLY crap. my only net access is at work, and we can't install anything on our machines. no quicktime, no realplayer, no anything. it really, really sux. i need AVIs!

  • Dec. 1, 2002, 3:50 p.m. CST

    indeed

    by 81666

i think the thing that is spooking people about this trailer is the fucked up quicktime, it's causing scenes to overlap and showing a regular scene, but then very quickly a translucent person appears on screen and their eyes are looking straight towards the camera. does anyone else see this? happened about 5 times when i first saw i, then it varied. looks like a cool flick, only thing isi clicked on that site that the talkbacker said it had the english subitles for the clip and it explained the whole fuckin; movie! don't read that thing if you don't want to get ruined for it. looks cool nonetheless. (btw: that litle kid is some fucked up shit)- 81666

    by Son Of Batboy

Wouldn't load one friggin' frame. Can't they put their shit into regular downloadable formats like 99% of movie sites??? Son of a bitch. At least Realplayer gives me sound and a fresh murky image every 30 seconds.

    by Mike-F

There is a game called Fatal Frame for XBOX and PS2 that is based on this story. Very scary game. Great though. As far as I knew Dreamworks was making a movie for Fatal Frame. Maybe they are going to bring this movie State side.

    WTF is this trailer bullshit?

    by FD Resurrected

I hate streaming QT. The trailer looks lame, with all the spoiler scenes thrown in to ruin my potential viewing enjoyment. Looks like the more the presence of the ghouls the less scary it gets watching the movie. Ringu is one of the most effectively scary movies I've ever seen - three contributing factors: 1. INVOLVING STORY 2. ATMOSPHERE 3. LESS PREDICTABLE/EXCELLENT PAYOFF. This also applied well to The Shining, The Thing re-make, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (death to remakes) and The Changeling, among a few too many movies to mention here. Dark Water worked somewhat effectively on this rule, with the exception of a lamely confounding "future" finale. Ringu 2 failed miserably because of utterly ridiculous plot holes/implausibilities ruining good scary payoff (except the weird mirror scene with Sadako and her mother recollecting the video excerpt in the first movie). I still haven't seen Ring Virus and Ring 0. Oh, I hear the phone ring...

  • Dec. 4, 2002, 4:01 a.m. CST

    You Sure?

    by wazzer

That wasn't scary. Try watching the movie with the soundtrack off and you'll realise that the only scary thing is the audio. Take that away and you've got a couple of powder rejects poping up in shot. Good work from that point of view but I think we've got another Blair Witch (which was real scary - not).
