Bo Svenson To Star In Tarantino's INGLORIOUS BASTARDS!!!!!

Published at:  Nov 28, 2002 3:16:02 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... For the truly cool that walk the Earth, this news will hit you like a pent up orgasm unleashed at super-speed! It looks like Quentin Tarantino is going to be bringing us Bo Svenson in INGLORIOUS BASTARDS... Apparently he's going to be playing a LEAD role, if not the lead role. Now, when I was hanging out in China on the set of KILL BILL, I asked Quentin where the script for INGLORIOUS BASTARDS was in terms of being ready to shoot. Quentin said it was 3/4ths finished. His plan is to finish KILL BILL, show it at Cannes, begin shooting INGLORIOUS BASTARDS that summer (2003), then do the press for the October Release of KILL BILL as he finds himself in Post-Production on INGLORIOUS BASTARDS. Now, we know he wants to cas Adam Sandler in the film... we also know he wants Michael Madsen. I suppose I also find myself wondering if he wants to go with Fred Williamson, since Fred and Bo starred in the original INGLORIOUS BASTARDS back in the seventies - which this isn't a remake of, he just likes the Title... at least that's my understanding. As for WHO IS BO SVENSON? Jesus... You've got to be kidding me. Bo Svenson is the man that took over the role of Buford Pusser and ran with it, becoming the definitive Buford Pusser in the last two WALKING TALL movies. He starred in the frickin' fantastic slasher film BUTCHER BAKER NIGHTMARE MAKER which I feel is the DEAD ALIVE of Eighties Slasher Films. He was amazing in THE GREAT WALDO PEPPER! Bo Svenson is a gigantic figure and to paraphrase the poster for THE FINAL CHAPTER - WALKING TALL --- there is a MAN! He'll be one tough hombre in a Tarantino war film, and I'd pay $8 repeatedly to see him backhand and pistol whip Adam Sandler in INGLORIOUS BASTARDS... I just hope that's in there somewhere! Here's the letter that started this all!

Dearest Harry,

Who the XXXX is Bo Svenson??

I just read an article in Sweden's biggest business paper, very well respected, Dagens Industri (www.di.se) about swedes in Hollywood. Usually these things focuses on Stormare, SkarsgÃ¥rd or Hallström, some times on Pernilla August, Lena Olin or Max von Sydow (or on Izabella Scoruppco).

This how ever centers around the mega star Bo Svenson.

Which I never ever heard of.

Which looks like the most common man imaginable.

And he says he was hand picked by Tarantino for Kill Bill, and that he will play the lead in Glorious Bastards.

What the f...?

In short he says, Almost every one on the Kill Bill cast & crew had to go trough 4 different levels before they got hired, QT being the forth. Super star Bo Svenson however got a personal phone call from God and was hired directly. QT even knew lines from BS (hmm..) old productions he didn't know him self.

He states that he's going to play a preacher, which to my great amazement is actually supported by IMDb.

He says that the film will start with still, b & w frames of Him, Uma and Jackson's organ player laying around being dead.
The reason for this will later be shown half way trough the movie (also in black n' w).

And yes, he says he's supposed to play the lead (a lead) in Glorious Bastards.
Actually seams suitable some how.

The article acually says "Inglorius Bastards" I think.. didn't have time to read it properly, and it wasn't my paper.. might be able to read it more carefully later.

Could all of this be true, or is it just major B.S.?

On a side note, IMDb states that Bo Svenson - international man of mystery - has also written a script of his own called "Viking" which he's supposed to direct next year. Seem to be about Erik Erikssen, the guy how bet Columbus with 500 years or so (and actually realized he wasn't in India). Heard anything about this?
Judging from the IMDb facts it sounds cheesy.. but interesting..

In case of posting this, Please feel very free to change all gramatic and/or spelling errors for the sake of those wonderful talkbackers.

Maybe it's just me.. maybe all of you know who this is..

Best regards,

Tomten

    by spam gamgee

Imagine you were a movie star in the 70s, but 25 years later your career has hit rock bottom. What do you do? You phone Quentin and ask him if he's got a part for you in his new movie. And Quentin, being such a big fan of 70s flicks, naturally says yes. So if you were popular in 70s and you want to make a comeback, call Quentin. Just ask John if you don't believe it, because it worked for him.

Who knows who Bo Svenson is? Really. I don't even know the guy and I know lots of little known actors. It doesn't help matters that you bring up a slew of movies no one else has heard of to clarify who this guy is. I place plenty of trust in Tarrentino so I believe that his choice is possibly the right one. I didn't no who Robert Forester was until "Jackie Brown" and he is terrific in his role. But I really hate when movie geeks act like there above it all. So what if a person doesn't know an obsure actor who hasn't worked since the 70's. Give us a break Harry!!! You sound like a comic shop owner who thinks your a retard for not knowing which issue of Spiderman Dr. Strange first appeared in. We don't run a website devoted to movies- so act like your above it all.

who?, I mean David Carradine is one thing but this is getting a little infuriating. I'm gonna have to go out and rent some of his movies as I can't recall seeing him let alone any movie with him in it. Tarantino really does make genre pictures doesn't he? Also, I heard that Sam Jackson will make a guest appearance in KB. He's great but does Tarantino have to keep using the same fucking actors. I think it's getting too obvious..or maybe that's the point.

Who are those bastards? am I the only person sick of QT's "used to work in a video store and saw everything" casting attitude?! At this early stage, I already doubt I'm gonna watch 'Bastards'... Michael Madsen, again? There are very few films I will DARE to watch that he has been cast in! If Tarantino must cast 'actors working for food' then how about something different for once, names you KNOW. My idea for the Bastards: the 'young guns' (yeah I hate the 2nd film, and laugh at the first one if its on TV too, BUT) wouldn't THAT be interesting? Sheen, Estevez, Phillips & Sutherland reunited for a GOOD bloody movie! And for those that find Estevez irritating, well a nice gory death scene of course (followed by brother 'Charles' extracting over the top violent revenge) See, thats your bastards right there.

QT's casting of former cool cats is just a tad about ego gratification. The underlying message is that he's too cool for the big or respected actors. He doesn't need them. Which is just fine by me. I don't doubt that he has genuine affection for these
glorious old-timers and their work, but methinks it's also about giving Hollywood's elite the finger. Hey QT how about John Saxon and Jim Kelly.

  • Or c) both of the above, (probably c :p) because I actually knew who Bo Svenson is and *have* heard of him before. That said I couldn't name more than a handful of films that he's been in off hand, Walking Tall 2 and 3, Portrait Of a Hitman (with Jack Palance), Breaking point (where he played a character called "McBain"...Simpsons fans take note :)), North Dallas 40 (opposite Nick Nolte), Night Warning (a really trippy early 80's horror flick) and the original Inglorious Bastards (with Fred Williamson), that'd be it really...mind you I haven't seen anything with him in it made in the past 20 years or so so I kind of assumed he was either dead or retired. Guess not. He was a passable enough 'tough guy actor' but no James Coburn or Lee Marvin, hell he wasn't even a James Caan or a Bo Hopkins, but he was still okay enough in a Fred Williamson, Tim Thomerson kind of a way. Now if you'll excuse me I'll go back into my hole in the basement...

    by edhairless

one of the most shameful, self-promoting, self-aggrandizing displays of the waste of perfectly good talent that film has ever seen. I think he is a talented writer and director but his voice is about as pleasant to listen to as air brakes going off on the LIRR. His "acting" appearances in such classics as "destiny turns on the radio" < " the Margaret Cho" show were that much more unsettling, because this dude should've been going right back out, trying to come up with something new. I liked Jackie Brown, but after the four years between that and Pulp Fiction, I think people had gone cold--especially since every hack in Hollywood had tried to come up with their version of Pulp Fiction. I think if Kill Bill and this "Glorious or Inglorious Bastards fails, his career could be in the shitter and that would be a shame.

YES! THIS IS AWESOME! I HATE QT!

    by palpatine100

It's been in the back of my mind for a long time now to make a movie and cast Bo Svenson, ever seeing the fucking AWESOME Butcher Baker NIghtmare Maker last year, which Bo is absolutely a GOD in. Folks, ignore that picture. Bo is a larger than life screen monster. You will be drooling!

This news is double exciting cuz I thought Bo was dead ;) No other way to explain someone this cool not having work for so long. As always, Quentin is leading my dream life. THat fucker.

I wouldn't mind seeing Fred Ward in another Hoke Moseley film.

    by cutter's way

    Fred Ward IS criminally underused.

seventies actors are the best actors

    by copafeel

Even the worst ones of that era are better than the crapteeth up on the screen anymore...

  • "Bo Svenson? That's a little too close to Bo Derek for my liking, brother."

  • I think Harry is getting a lot of undue crap. Buford Pusser is essential knowledge to anyone with 'a pair'. I'm not evern a big film guy and I instantly recognized our hero of Walking Tall. Some of you should consider limiting your viewing of your Star Wars EP 2 DVD to once per day, that way you might have the time to enjoy some badass films.

    Shit yeah, Fred Ward rules!!!

    by son of batboy

The man was DAMN cool in HENRY & JUNE and was great in SHORT CUTS, in addition to the other films already mentioned. FRED WARD deserves to be in this "guys on a mission movie." And give him a stogie to smoke.

Acknowledged as the first European on North American Soil. You can figure out of the colonial powers who was most victorious.

    Bo knows bastards.

    by teriyakidoughnut

Like many of you I have absolutly no idea who thid Bo fellow is but I am willing to give him a try. I'm sure that most you you had absolutly no idea who Robert Forseter was when Quentin cast him in Jackie Brown and now look, Robert was fucking amazing. If Quentin sees something in this Bo fellow then I am willing to give him a chance. Now I'm off to the video store to see if I can find this slasher movie that Harry is raving about.

P.S. Leave Harry alone. When any movie geek sees a chance to show off his filmly knoledge he takes it. So shut your mouths we're all movie snobs.

Inglorious and glorious are NOT interchangable...

    by mutley

If the characters in the film are "inglorious" calling, it "Glorious Bastards" would be moronic. They are friggin OPPOSITES!
