Spielberg's TAKEN trailer online!!!

Published at:  Nov 27, 2002 6:55:50 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here with a bit for you Coaxial folks. Sci-Fi channel has been sending me tons of promo items for TAKEN, and I just noticed that they sent me two video tapes of episodes from the show, unfortunately though... NOT the Tobe Hooper episode which is the one I'm DYING TO FRIGGIN SEE!!!! I don't really know much about this, but it looks like a cross between SIGNS and FIRE IN THE SKY. Tobe Hooper made one of the best televised genre outings ever with his adaptation of SALEM'S LOT, god I love that! Seems next Monday, I might actually be tempted to venture into the living room and stare at the glowing idiot box... and tomorrow I might go check out those two episodes they sent. Can't hurt much can they?

    Smoking gun

    by egon spengler

One of the best marketing gimmicks ever: nearly coinciding with the premiere of Taken, Sci-Fi channel presented a document which shows a member of military personel reporting about weather balloon crash in Roswell. But computer enhanced image shows clearly that the report he holds in his hands (written for his superiors) talks about the victims of UFO crash. Mind boggles.

    Speak for yourself . . .

    by theopholy

I love alien films and the Taken series looks great. For the record, I didn't get too into X-Files. In the beginning, yes, but as the show progressed I lost interest, even though they introduced the whole alien idea into the framework. Taken is closer to what I like to see.

Bonnie Hammer has a beer and cheets on AN ENTIRE FUCKING GENRE!

    by rufus_t_firefly

As folks've been heard to say 'round theses parts: "Fuck the Sci-Fi Channel. Fuck them up their stupid asses." This, the network that gave their most die-hard audience a case of collective blue-balls with their now-you-see-it, now-you-don't cancellation of Farscape. A pox upon Taken and everything else on their current schedule.

    What Rufus said.

    by mostholy

I was actually kinda interested in this miniseries...until Sci-Fi decided to kill Farscape before its time. Now there's no way in Hell I'm watching it, or anything else on this godforsaken channel.

    BTW on Roswell docs

    by oknight

At the time of the Roswell crash, no government officials up the chain of command canceled any meetings or social events-- no sudden unscheduled conferences-- nobody got mysterious "flu" so that they could meet to discuss important stuff-- nothing. No reaction, no trail whatsoever. One of the most boring weeks in Washington history. Apparently if they found aliens, nobody cared about it.
The best explanation I've ever heard was that the idiot general thought it would be a good diversionary cover story to claim it was a crashed UFO-- and was immediately told what an idiot he was since nothing could have attracted more attention to a covert recovery.

    Boycott The Sci-Fi Channel!

    by vnhaln1

After what they did to Farscape I have pretty much boycotted the Sci-Fi Channel. I might turn in to see the first episode of Taken but I have mixed feelings.

You can be sure that the Miniseries will be so overloaded with commercials it will be hard to watch. Look what they did with their Dune Miniseries. I guess I can always tape the episodes and watch them the next day so I can FF through the endless ads we will be seeing.

They still show sci-fi on that channel?

    by mondoz2

After killing off their best sci-fi shows for crap like the guy who talks to dead people, I've stopped watching that channel completely. From afar, I have seen them go from bad to worse... Who makes their decisions, anyway? "Hey, let's take a genre channel, and screw it completely to hell! We can cancel every good show we've got, fill the airwaves with fluff, and still make tons of money!" Yeah, we'll see how long you last. After the death of Farscape, I'm not going back. Screw you, Sci-Fi.

I don't know, it looked pretty bad in that "making of" on Sci-Fi

    by domisinnerchild

So there are ten two-hour "movies" sent in different time periods. To me, that sounds like A LOT of slowness. I mean, this terriotory has been covered so many times. I have serious doubts they can pull something fresh and interesting out of their hat. Don't forget the bad signs. There is the cliched "alien baby" that has been a part of every one of these since the first V mini-series. The aliens do the black eye thing because that's always the in thing since it's kind of creepy and probably easy/cheap to do with CG nowadays. Tobe Hooper has made a lot of bad movies now, kind of scary he's the "big name" director kicking this thing off. I just see a lot of pissed off people sitting through 20 hours of Dark Skies II here. Didn't we learn anything from the last Sci-Fi Channel alien crap fest? What was that British alien invation miniseries from a couple of years ago? Damn, that thing was horrible. I can't believe I watched most of it.

    Don't Forget Dr. Who

    by vnhaln1

The channel never went and got all the old Dr. Who shows but runs so much crap instead. Next they will be running Bird of Prey over and over after after it gets axed (only 13 episodes in the can).

    re: Old doctor Who episodes.

    by idetic amnesiac

The reason why we don't see Doctor Who on Sci-fi or all over the place on other channels, is because, the BBC wants an arm and a leg for broadcast rights for the show. The sci-fi channel here in Canada(Space)showed Doctor Who for about six months but dumped it because it didn't justify the cost... plus they were only getting the 50's and 60's era episodes and not the more popular Tom Baker era ones. Oh well, the BBC now has a channel here in Canada and they show Doctor Who on there, but I can't get the channel yet... need a dish.

  • Even people who aren't fans of Farscape know that what Sci-Fi did was vicious (publicly announce that Farscape would be on for TWO more seasons, giving writers the impression that they could stretch the story, then kill the show at the end of season four without warning). That is just shitty treatment of fans, and enough to justify a boycott of the channel, to which I am holding firm. I will watch the final 11 episodes of Farscape, then I am done forever. And Taken might have been interesting, ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO. It's pathetic that Spielberg (or anyone else) thinks that there's a shred of interest in this overdone genre of "alien abduction" stories.

    Harry, you fuckin idiot...

    by miguelalvarez

'Salem's Lot' is a blight on all mankind, if you have any taste at all. Even more so for Stephen King fans, like me! Depicting the Master as some godawful Nosferatu inspired schlock monster?! Filming one of the greatest horror books ever, but managing to be as 'unscary' as possible! What are you on, man? Read the book. Thats right, read a BOOK for once! Oh, and fuck Tobe Hooper, fuck him up his pretentiously overrated ~ 'I made a cheap little dumb-ass slasher movie, with awful acting & worse writing & now strange culty geeks worship me' ~ ass!

    by anyawatcher

taken looks ok. but why do Farscape fans keep popping up in every talkback bitching about the cancellation. It made it 5 years for a boring ass show. yawn. I watched the last season to see what the deal was about. boring. stop crying about no talkbacks and no more show. shove farscape up your asses.

But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I mean surely they wouldn't be so dumb as to repackage X-files' central plotline. Right?

    Ten 2-hour episodes = 20 hours

Sheesh. Why didn't they just add another 2 hours, and split each movie into two parts and simply call it a one-season series?

Here's a reason for Farscape fans to hate Taken

    by domisinnerchild

The series, which debuts on Dec. 2 and is scheduled to air on consecutive nights, accounts for almost 25 percent of Sci Fi channel's total budget for 2002

Think when Sci-Fi was doing the budget for this year and this big pile of crap dropped in the middle of it that Farscape's budget was the first thing they figured they needed to scrap?

No More Sci Fi on Sci Fi

    by dandosama

It is clear that science fiction fans are no longer the target audience of the Sci Fi Channel. Ever since it became the place to watch Alien Autopsy, John Edwards, Sightings, Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, Sci Fi Happens and other "reality"-based fare, I can only assume that the target demographic is lowest-of-the-low-common-denominator, slope-browed, paste-eating morons. With the exception of reruns of Babylon 5 and Star Trek, there is little on the channel that can be classified as science fiction and nothing that is even remotely worth watching. This includes Taken, which is clearly aimed at the aforementioned UFO-believing paste eaters. Most of my friends don't boycott the channel, we just find that there is nothing worth bothering with anymore. And I am sad to say that Sci Fi probably won't miss us, or anyone else on this message board. They have made a conscious decision to appeal to a different kind of viewer. Time to move on, I guess.

yup...i completely agree. i turned it on last week to find Braveheart being aired. Granted, Braveheart is a great movie, but has no place on the SCI-FI network.
