From Stan Winston's public statements, filtered through a geek and brought to you regarding TERMINATOR 3
Hey folks, Harry here... From this report, I'm trying to figure something out... The tread-robot... Did Stan Winston build full size working giant Robots? Is that the tread-robot he's talking about? Or is it a new smaller rover robot? I know you're dying to know, I know I am. Hmmm... It'd be really cool to own a giant Stan Winston created tread roving robot! Specially if it could shoot purple laser beams! That'd be the bomb! So here's a question. Will this be a better or worse movie than the next MATRIX? Why?
Harry
love the site, just wanted to let you know that i saw stan winston speak in nyc 2 weeks ago. i figured someone would of leaked what he said about t3 but i could not find any of it on your site. So if you know already or if you don't this is what he said. First off he mentioned on how in 3 it will be the first film to feature a real robot on treads. this bot is not an efx he swore it was real. The robot its self is what he called the T-1. it is the prototype of all the other terminators to come. he also mentioned that that the girls weapon is incredible, but did not mention exactly what it was. so that makes it a total of 3 terminators in t-3 i guess if they make a 4th there will be 4 robots.
thats all i can remember, i do no more about winstons other projects, but if you really want i guess you can email me back.
see ya

He'll be back. I for one am looking forward to this flick.
It may not have Cameron, but Mostow is a passionate and talented director. And Arnold has put a lot of work in, recent photos and footage, (T3 behind the scenes), show him to be looking huge.
The T3 trailer will play before The Two Towers, according to numerous reports.
-
how badly this movie is going to suck? How can you top T2? What the fuck (other than the almighty dollar) would make you TRY to top it?
-
...but the first two Terminator movies are a tough act to follow. I've been a huge fan of James Cameron ever since ALIENS warped my fragile little mind at seven years old (it transformed me into the geek that I am today... damn proud!) but I don't think the series will fall apart without his involvement. Any franchise can continue successfully without the original creative team as long as the studios employ equally talented people to take control of the project. Thing is... Jonathan Mostow has yet to impress me. BREAKDOWN was okay, U571 was mediocre, who knows what he'll do with T3? Is there even a need for T3? I'm going to hold out hope... crossing my fingers... right about now...

This post has to be the worst spelling I've ever seen. The odd mistake here and there is okay, but this was just HORRIBLE. Who the hell spells "know" as "no"?

If anyone has registered to the T3 website, you get some kind of strange e-mail about Skynet and the T3 website. I m just going to see this because Claire Danes apparently fires a machine gun, and has an 'Empowering' and 'Action Girl' type role.
-
I always get those two mixed up for some reason. Could the reason be that they are young professional with bland stylings who hold 2 of the most prized possessions of geekdom in their hands making everyone (scratch that - I can only speak for myself but the vibe is definitely nervous/cautious) wonder, will anything good come out of this? Better than Matrix reloaded? Doubt it. Wachowski's have proven they know exactly where the cool buttons are in the nervous system on an average geek (mind you, with 2 films - I even think Assasins could have been cool had they directed it themselves), while Ratner and Mostow have yet to convince. I fear T3 will be pedestrian - you know, middle of the road. As for The Oak, he's a strong guy but I'm not sure if even he can carry The Terminator franchise without Cameron's vision. When it comes to Sci-fi Action that man's got chops. Okay, Dark angel aside but it was TV, not directed by him etc.
-
I cant wait for this film! Oh, and i think theres more robots than 3, its not called rise of the machines for nothing. He said he'd be back!!!
-
No thanks.
-
Yeah!! Give us all a break. There had better not be a fourth in this worn-out series. What the f&ck is left to say? Arnull-d returns to stomp the Democratic gurly-men into a pate he can serve at his inauguration as Governor of the state of Florida?
-
The female terminator will have a gun, and there will be a new robot of some description. This guy should be made head of marketing, he sure knows how to sell a product.
-
So this T-1 is the prototype for all the other terminators. So they made a tracked prototype from the head and arm of Arnies terminator T-100 ( or whatever number)as accordinging to T-2 this is where the terminators come from ie the left over parts from the first movie. Time line contitunity. I don't f**king think so.
-
Number 5 is alive, yeah that sounds about right. That was more or less a semi-blurb of news.
-
T1, for one. The first in the series is infinitely better than the overblown T2, which, while fun enough, can't hold a candle to its predecessor in terms of tension or creativity.
"Why do humans cry?" Oh Lord, what an embarrassment that line was. I still groan at its recollection. -
Although T2 is one of my favorite films of all time, that line was a little lame. Why would an emotionless killing machine care? A better question would be: How does Data cry at the end of ST:Generations? What, suddenly he has fully-functionnal, liquid-filled tear ducts? - I know Kung Fu.

WRONG WRONG WRONG. If you don't know what you are talking about, don't lay down lies. T1 took $37m in 1984. Ok, not much on the $200m+ that T2 took, but T2 cost, like, $100m (not 100% sure) and T1 cost about $7m. You have to remember that T1 was a small budget movie that did really well at the box office, and just kept growing on video. I realise the person who made that statement is probably only 13 or something, so if a film doesn't take over $100m then its a flop. Asshole.
-
From what I've heard and seen of this new Terminator flick, the tone will be very gritty, almost nihilistic. I mean, Sara is dead, John is a repressed computer hacker bordering on schitzophrenia, and evil is prevailing once again. I must say, I don't like the idea of a female terminator; it's cliched, like they are running out of ideas - which they probably are. But the tone is everything. I mean, the Terminator theme is one of the greats and Mostow's way of filming will fit it perfectly. "U-571" was a movie I disliked quite a lot but only because it was never able to escape the cliches of a submarine movie, despite some good moments. "Breakdown" on the other hand was a very gritty, down and dirty action movie. Cars didn't explode every time they crashed, people got really bloody, and it never seemed to fall into cliche, except for the fact that you knew that damn truck was going to fall on that fella. But that movie had balls. And it was scary in its realism. And Mostow is NO FUCKIN" BRET RATNER. Ratner is showy and the equivalent of Schumacher (thought Schumacher has had the luck to have a long career with some really good films - "Falling Down" and "8MM" which I liked because it was so damn dark and accomplished what it set out to do. Mostow has had few films and this could really break him out. Good luck Mostow.

Not in this lifetime. Although I reserve the right to withdraw that statement in the event of unexpected Matrical crapness. I do not however expect to need to use that waiver. And the only way that T3 can possibly justify its existence is if Judgment Day happens and it corrects the happy ending paradox nonsense at the end of T2. Time travel schmine travel, right? However, I admit to not having read any drafts of the script, so feel free to rush up and correct my appalling ignorance and assure me how dark this will be. As I am sure you all will anyway.

To be cynical and a little literal, T2 had more than two terminators. If you include all the enods you see in the opening, there you go. All right dull I know. Heres what I want to see. Arnold vs. Arnold this time. No liquid metal shit, no transforms into plasma gun and incinerates everything in a ten foot radius. Just two hardcore metal machines mangling each other over a grown kid with no life whatsoever. T3 ends with a nuke, opens for T4 where we actually meet the hardened battle commander Conner, actually fighting against Skynet in a ruined world. Thats the Terminator I'd like to see. Enough of this time travel shit, just zap to the final lap of this whole franchise loop. The new game goes exactly along the lines I'd like to see. John is too late to stop the terminator from going back to kill his mother, so he sends back reese to stop him just before he blows all of skynet to hell. Thus the loop d loop comes full circle, story ends, and no sequel worries.
-
Couldn't resist (sorry BadAss). I say the best Terminator to date is Terminator 2 in 3D at Universal. Kicks my bony butt everytime.
-
Well, last for a few mins. I've seen a lot of sites with a comment feature, but never one that gets so much attention as this one.
-
Sounds delicious. T1 did NOT bomb at the box office. But a Terminator without Cameron? In ten years aren't they going to ask "what were we thinking?" Speaking of which, where the fuck is Cameron anyway? I know he's shooting some underwater thing, but who gives a shit? GIVE ME TITANIC II!
-
"why do humans cry" also gave me douche chills. I haven't seem T2 since it came out and that's just fine with me.
-
That is all
-
But I just wanted to put in a vote for more tread-roving robots. You can never get enough of those. We should start a lobbying committee.
-
besides, Cameron wrapped the whole thing well enough at the end of T2, right?
-
Is this even a competition? Matrix Reloaded will, without a doubt, be better. While the Terminator films have been good I am very nervous about this one and it's potential to ruin the whole franchise. Matrix on the other hand is not only a planned trilogy (not sequels) but the first one was one of the smartest and most deeply philosophical films I've ever seen and the next are only going to improve upon the first one.
It's true Keanu is no Ahnuld, then again Ahnuld is no Keanu.
Fuck, what does that mean? -
when is the trailer coming out?
-
Mostow gave very good directors commentary on U571. My fear is that he sees T3 as a bumper pack DVD with all the bells and whistles - but no real development on conor/terminator storyline.

T3 is a superfluous idea, although Mostow has proved a decent director on occasion. What a waste, though. This film will of course make money, but it will have to make it the hard way, through a long period of overseas showings and PPV broadcasts and cable showings and video releases. It sure ain't gonna make a profit based on the American box office take. Arnold has become box office poison. Look at his last fiveor six films. Except for TRUE LIES, which is quickly working its way to being a decade old, they are disgraceful. No one under 30 cares about or knows him, other than you AICN loonies. Why doesn't he do HAMLET instead? Or KINGERGARTEN COP II?
-
I'm not a fan of the Matrix because I thought the movie was shallow and even though the style has become-- iconoclastic-- I thought it was tired the first time. .. heck, even Dark City with the chattering zombies had more pHilOSophy in it and style wise was also techno-goth-grim. *sigh* (Dark City sucked by the way but, for comparison sake, I think it was more challenging than the Matrix.) But I'm hopeful for Matrix Reloaded. Hopeful because it's sci fi and has a big budget-- hopeful in an Aliens kind of way-- and I'm looking for a smart action film. I hate that James Cameron stopped making science fiction movies and fell in love with a freaking boat! Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg and James Cameron can all have a lovefest with the Oscars--- oh, I hate those evil Oscars that turn all the best science fiction directors into..... ah, normal type directors. Personally, I love T1 & T2 in a Top Ten Desert Island kind of a way. I can understand why people feel that T2 was a lesser film, but it was marketed to a larger audience from conception. To me, it was a true sequel because the main character Sara changes dramatically and for all the blunt elements in the writing ("Why do humans cry?") I was fascinated by her psychotic-obsessive transformation. T1 & T2 are really different but a great combination that I treasure. I don't look forward to T3 because I don't think it will live up to what Cameron accomplished. I'm looking forward to Ender's Game even though I think it will be hard to get the tone right. I just really wish that some new science fiction directors would gain prominence. Kurt Wimmer's Equilibrium sounds decent-- plotwise kind of lame with the Prozium society mind control-- but action wise solid. And I would seriously love for a new director to start mining the gold from the sci fi genre. Science fiction is visual storytelling; it's true poetry on film. The greatest like Ridley Scott have turned away from the genre leaving room for new voices and new talent in this computer effects era. Now more than ever there should be artistic expression of the effects of technology on society. Plus, good sci fi makes hella lot of money!! I just don't understand why there are so few good sci fi films now. Oh, Lucas. Ah, well, his new trilogy is okay. Painfully simplistic, but pretty. I feel neutral about his next film. Dat's dat.
-
I dont know how reliable this info is so bare with me okay? But I have heard from a pretty decent source that Johnny Boy will set off SkyNet world kicking fun and that the Terminatrix will capture the T800 mod 101 and reprogram him to no longer protect John but KILL KILL KILL his sorry little ass!!!
Stan Winston by the way is THE NUMBER ONE special/ visual effects guy in the industry, bar none. If he says something is Cool as far as effects go then by fucking gum it will be!!! Whether or not this is a short circuit clone its gonna be cool. Besides didnt you always want Johnny 5 to go on a killing spree anyway with that cool laser gun? So come on guys cut the fella some slack!!!
I say 'Just bring that shit on!!!!!' -
Cameron's Titanic made a freakily enormous amount of money so obviously not just sci fi films are big money makers. Spielberg did return to the sci fi genre with A.I. (which I did not like) and Minority Report (which I didn't see). Um, yeah, so I guess I should have seen Minority Report. It just looked like some boring crap detective movie. Not a cool Bladerunner type, but a Grisham type. This talkback is so out of order that the fact that I'm ranting to myself will go... quite... unnoticed... lol

Why compare the two? Every film is unique upon itself. Why dont you ask "Will Kill Bill be better than Matrix Revolutions?" in a Kill Bill news story next time. But strangely enough, I cant see you doing that. Sure people are dissing T3 already, because a lot of people are afraid that it will stink. But give the movie a chance until you actually see it.
-
Why do they keep f*cking up the T1 by repeating the same thing over and over? In the first movie Kyle states that after he went through the time machine the rebels destroyed it and only something living could travel through time hence the nudity. He also stated that the humans had one and the terminator was sent back to change the futer only one terminator get it no more!!!! You wanna make another terminator movie set it during the war you bunch of d*ck heads!!!!!
-
I guess you all saw THE pic huh? Only I'm suprised nobody seems to be mentioning it so far: Arnie carrying a 'requisite big gun' in one hand, and - shivers - THE coffin under the other arm! What, no comments on that?

regarding the comment "why would terminator ask why humans cry?"
by ghostface01
To: Neofromthematrix-If you watch the special edition version of T2 not the theatrical version you would know that john and sara conner took out the terminator's cpu chip and switched it from read-only memory(ROM) to random access memory (RAM) which allowed terminator's neural-net processor to write on his hard-drive in other words learn and adapt and modify his behavior appropriately to any condition hence his ability to smile and ask questions. His curiosity of why humans cry is a direct result of his default behavior changing as he learns to become more human. That genius cameron thought of everything.
-
I don't know who the fuck could like T1 over T2 and not be putting up the most massive 'cool indie low budget film nerd' front.
I'm not that big a fan of either, but here's my two cents anyway. I think T2 was just a remake of T1 that got disguised as a sequel since a remake would've been just stupid. It just seemed like they were doing everything they wanted to do with T1 but didn't have the budget. T1 was cooler as far as story and the lack of flaming gay 14 year old boys getting robots to speak incredibly outdated catch phrases... But T1's objective was to be sort of a sci-fi thriller horror thing, which with its low budget, craptacular robot from the waste up shots, it totally fails as. T2 was like an action flick for teenagers designed to sell tickets, toys, and whatnot... It still fulfills its purpose. Call me shallow for not overlooking T1's obsolete shit effects and bad audio and film etc etc if you want, but what exactly are you geek dumb asses seeing through to anyway? It's deeply moving, metaphysical, question posing premise of robots killing people? I call you walking vajildos who need to stop trying so damned hard.
