BIRDS OF PREY 1.4!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
The Coaxial News talkback crowd seems to be warming to “Birds of Prey,” just like the rest of the nation. Spew your hate and your love. The girls tonight deal with a metahuman baby who ages much too quickly! The ice is so slippery and the baby is all irrational!

It had potential but it's just so damn campy now. Like every other scene is an emotional outpuoring and the ending is like the "moral of the story."
I hoped this would get better with time but nope. I'm afraid BOP is being shut off for good. -
this show could have been a lot better
-
When the baby become a teenager did anyone else get that "Dude your getting a Dell" vibe?
-
They delivered what you wanted, more Mia Sara, Ashley Scott seemed better, dialogue wasn't as groan enducing. Picky bitches, you wanted to hate this from the start.
-
Get over it losers, stop hating EVERYTHING! No, this show may not be a masterpiece to cherish, but, it sure as hell is not bad. I have never posted here before, but I view alot, meaning, im still a sane person. I so felt the need to defend tonight's episode...I felt it was the best one of the season. All you people do are bitch and whine about things you WANT to see in the show, but then when you actually get them it's still not enough. You claim that everything has to be emotional? Hmm, let's look at the facts...it stars 3 females! If you want things to be hardcore you'd be better off watching 3 lezbos. The fight scenes were good, the dialouge was good, and the plot was decent. Quit bitching.
-
...or not. I think this dog needs to be put to sleep if you ask me. But I won't condemn it completely until the season has had its run. I'll give it the benefit of a doubt and see if they can serve up some decent episodes later in the season as things heat up between the BOP and Harlequinn. And dammit, Harle had better don the jester outfit! The only saving graces of the show are Barbara Gordon, Harlequinn, and Alfred. The Huntress is annoyingly cocky and Dinah is annoyingly too damn sweet. And this Meta-human garbage has got to go; hey, last time I looked, weren't there crazy people and crimelords terrorizing Gotham? Let me guess: all these meta-humans sprang from the 'meteor rocks' that struck Smallville? (Note; I'm not saying that Smallville is a bad show; just that "Monster of the week" aspect of it). Ok, I'm done.
-
Anyone know? Hell, "girls club" got cancelled after 2 eps, even with the David E. Kelley stamp on it. (I imagine the standards are a bit lower for the WB, however.) Frankly, I don't care much care how great/bad the show is...I love watching Ashley Scott. She's a meta-hottie. :P Get her half-nekkid in MAXIM, already!!!
-
thank you rockinstar 18 i rarely post anything here but i am so tired of these horny star trek/xfiles geeks who have nothing better to do than to sit on the computer all day and write long ass talk backs and all they do is bitch bitch bitch. did you expect birds of prey to be like the sopranos?? NO its on the freakin WB for god sakes get over it. if you enjoy it cool if not whta the hell are u doin on a website talkin about it. Not only that you people only care about whose hot on the show and obsess over it get a Girlfriend for god sakes i have one and its great you dont have to have posters of "naked mandy" or Buffy all over your walls OOH scully is hot. Grow up and get some light

I watched a particularly good ep of the animated Batman today. God, it made me depressed about BOP. Paul Dini rules! Cheers!
-
...Let's remember that these rants are coming from people who argue over whether or not Cameron Diaz has an ass.
-
Let's all bear in mind that BTAS doesn't have the freakin' Dawson's Creek network telling shows what to do, and they have the BMan himself!
-
...when it was an episode of Star Trek: DS9.ha!
-
This show sure smells like Buffy with superheroes and supervillians. Get rid of Shemar Moore. I can't stand soap opera actors, but I guess they're a dime a dozen.
-
It's a decent show, it's been improving in each episode. And unlike Smallville, it's not trapped in a box. It can go wherever it wants to go as far as story. It can bring in other DC characters(if they get the licenses). It's getting better and (if the spoilers for next week are any indication) it's gonna get interesting.
-
This show has one last chance to win me. *not that it matters since everyone else will still watch* Next week lack Canary shows up. If it sucks, I got no choice but to walk.
-
Hey!!! Im a horny Star Trek grrk and I like BOP. Please dont stereotype us all. By the way did anyone see the suit T'Pol was wearing on Enterprise tonight? It made me horny.
-
RockSta18 and MPfanatic, I don't expect this show to be Sopranos. I just expect it to be good. I expect it to respect the source material. Yes, I am a comic geek, but that's not the only reason I'm saying this. Look at Smallville. Not the most faithful adaption, but the story of Supes is obviously given some degree of respect. The show is quality. Birds Of Prey, on the other hand, takes a piss all over the Batman mythos. True, Batman has left Gotham in the comics, but always left it under protection. And he would never run from the JOker.
I know, I coming off as a total geek, and those are my geek gripes, but for other aspects, ths show has no originality whatsoever. It might as well be called "Buffy The Criminal Catcher". The HUntress is basically Buffy is a corset.
So you know what you too, I will shoot off about this show, because I really dislike it. I gave it a shot, but I couldn't stand it. It could be fixed with a darker tone, a more dangerous Gotham, and a new head cop.
And one things really bothers me. How can she have a secret identity(the Huntress) if she has nothingf to disguise her face? I mean Jebus, even Clark Kent wears glasses.
This show is a sick dog. Itr needs to be put out of its misery. And if you two, or anyone else want to attack those of us who don't like the show, keep on doing it. Your opinion s mean about as much to us, as ours do to you.
-
I have NEVER beat off to LOTR. Spider-Man is a different story. That one was like porn for me.
-
C'mon, guys, theres no sport in it, its like poking retards with sticks, its just mean after awhile. Don't you all see how pathetic they are? Their best defense is "Its not that bad" or "Its getting better." One brain trust even said "go read a book if you hate any form of entertainment." Now that just makes no sense, no sense at all. It does makes complete sense, though why this show does well. Its a show for stupid people, and Lord knows America has no shortage of stupid people. This is a show for the type of people who need reminders on their cups that coffee is hot, the kind of people who bungee jump with cords that are too long, the kind of people who think Wal-mart is classy and Saving Private Ryan deserved its Oscar. Leave the retards alone, give them their happiness, not matter how sad and pathetic it is.
-
And this piece of shit show is not. The writing, the acting, the direction, even the sets are downright terrible. Why would you watch a show thats horrible, just because it has Bat costumes in it? Thats just silly.
-
I am not saying that your opinions are wrong you dont like the show fine but why do all the people on this site get on here and just bitch all the time, and sometimes those rants are so freaking long MY GOD get a life is what im saying, u wanna talk back fine write this show sucked, this show rocked and a brief description dont write us a bible on the episode. its so sad that u guys dont have anything better to do is all im saying i love 24, buffy, smallville etc and i like coming here to read what other people thought but i dont need a 5000 word essay, and im sure im not the only one who feels like that..anyways any more ranting and ill be on your levels PEACE
-
...No, honestly. Anyways, I'll say it again. I don't care how some of you people who hold out hope of a cancellation gripe and moan. I LOVE this show. It's not campy, it's not preachy, and there ain't no "moral at the end" deal either. It's a great series that is starting to build a plot arc. And you blind fanboys don't even see it. And I won't point it out because you fools are too proud to notice your own shortcomings.
And F*** first posters. F*** them right in the A**. [the G-Rated version. Sorry, OBUF.] -

BOP will go the eway of DA. it'll do gangbusters for the first year until people start getting tired of ashley scott smirking at them. (what's wrong with giving the whole show to dina meyer as batgirl? i'd buy that for a dollar!) BOP will never survive its second season. if it survives its first, that is.
-
Looking back on all season one's most shows are rough. I can see what they are trying to do with BOP but they are just a little off. It's like they need a strong dose of watching Buffy, Angel, Xena and Alias and then they should try to write an episode. I'm looking forward to Canary next week but right now it has that movie of the week feel. "Tonight's lesson is.....hitting you over the head like a LEAD PIPE!
Granted as a gal I'm happy they are trying to get a female audience along with the men but over 75% of their audience is probably male and there is a little to much touchy feely talking even for this gal.
More action, more suspense and I'm sorry as much as Harley should rock as a villian (and does in the comic) she just doesn't here.
Can we talk about tonight when Oracle reported that Huntress "saw a mystery woman but missed her face" Come on she's meta human for god sakes. Now if Harley was in her Harley get-up (please give us the Harley get-up) maybe but not in a freakin suit.
And does EVERY episode have to end on the roof of the clock tower - going to get old quick.
And what was Oracle wearing to just lounge around the clocktower. She looked great don't get me wrong - but totally over dressed.
And both of the gals little guy friends have ZERO chemistry with the ladies they are courting - ZERO!!!! If it's such gal power why do they need to stuff the boyfriend thing down our throats - not that they can't date it's just they are saving the city they don't need a man to feel completed and yet they are making these ladies have too.
Don't get me wrong I want to love this show. I love the comic, i love the cast, i love the production design - I just would like scripts that work and so far they don't really work.
Tonight was poor, last week was poor I'm now in a 2-2 mode with BOP as much as i want it to stay to develop right now it ain't there.
my two cents -
Not the show, the talk back, there's nothing funnier than people who spend time here only to tell other people they're wasting their time, but of course the people who are saying get a life have a life, they assure us of this by telling us about their girlfriends and how they hardly ever post here...as they sit here reading every post and actually getting angry about them, get a life indeed...
-
The show isn't bad ... but it ain't great either! It needs to do something that makes us anxious to see it the next week!
-
dialogue of any show on television, ever. People don't talk like that. At least not people that anyone want to hang out with.
Not that better dialogue would be enough to fix this show though... -
And over the summer I even encouraged others on this site to check it out when it premiered. But the more I myself watch it, the more unsure I am of it. The production values remind me an awful lot of the old Flash series on CBS, way back in 1990. I don't state this as a compliment really, either. The scriptwriting and production design for The Flash was not bad, at best, but uninspiring for the most part. And this series was on 12 years ago! Specifically what I mean about the production values is that the look of the sets and costumes from both shows seem to be the same. I wonder, in fact, if the same production designer was involved with both shows. It's like
they just recycled the same sets from The Flash for BoP. The production design of The Flash was obviously inspired by the Batman movie, but brightened up a little with accenting primary colors. The production design for BoP has
been described as "Schumacher-esque" by the producers. And is it just me or does Dina Meyer increasingly resemble and sound like Kate Mulgrew? Again, that's not necessarily a compliment. I'm starting to find myself tuning in only to see Harley. Mia Sara does a decent job as the "post-bimbo" Harley. Still, I would have preferred it if this series had a younger Barbara Gordon and younger, bimbo Harley (like Gretchen Mol, from the just cancelled Girls' Club). Lots of people are saying that most series have uneven first seasons. While that may be true, that doesn't mean that most of these good shows didn't have enjoyable first seasons. 24, Buffy, X-Files, Friends, E.R. and so forth all had what could be described as "uneven" first seasons, but they were still fun to watch. Their unevenness was like watching a clearly gifted child growing up, and figuring out its own identity. I don't get that sense at all with BoP. Instead, it all feels schizophrenic and almost ASHAMED of its heritage to Batman and its comic book source material. For now, BoP is interesting to watch/keep up with, but that doesn't mean it's much fun to watch. -
10) Please stop making such a crappy show.
-
I have to agree with Teri's Rape and Querty about all their points so I will not go into how bad this show is. I actually felt that this show was the best so far. That's not saying much. They kept it simple for Ashley and gave us a retread but interesting story. I think it fell apart at the end with the sappy musical montage. The editig left a lot to be desired. There is so much wrong with this show that it's exhausting to continue pointing it out. But I would like them to kill Harlequin. Her character makes this show into a farce, if that can be done even more. But the writers have gotten rid of the cat sounds and the lame bat at the end over the full moon (which by the way, doesn't happen every week). I just hope they get rid of the music on the clock tower endings as well. Next week with the Black Canary seems interesting. I hope they mention Ollie. The sad thing is that they will probably get it right on the day they are canceled.
-
It premiered big but the ratings are dropping farthur each week. It's only a matter of time before this show goes bye bye. UNLESS WB completly retools the show to make it GOOD, or WB keeps it to keep the pproducers of the much better Smallville happy.
-
For what it's worth, this show is really bad. I love comic books, I was DYING to see it. I don't even watch TV that much, I don't even have my cable hooked up right now and I begged someone to let me come over and watch it . . . and it STINKS.
Barbara is okay, Alfred has taken a step down in the world, at least looking after a mansion is a huge undertaking, but now he's cleaning dishes in a loft? Ugh. The actress playing Huntress is hot, but she's like the 12th Buffy clone to come along and there's not much to make her stand out. The kid playing Canary Jr. has to go. And by the way, since when is Harley Quinn Joan Collins?
The WB had Buffy, which was unique and entertaining from the beginning, and that is the standard to which all these so called bitter and horny geeks compare it. This show does not measure up.
I also heard inklings that the producers have blown so much money that after episode 8, things are going downhill. They have to keep recycling the same warehouse set because they can't afford anything else. However, maybe since it is doing so well in the ratings the WB will invest more and get better creative people involved.
In any case, this thing is a disaster and I will NEVER watch it again. -
As bad as Birds of Prey is it could be better if, like SMallville, they made it more true to the characters and comic.
Batman has NEVER been about Metehumans. Batman and his team (Robin, Huntress, Batgirl, Oracle, Nightwing, Spoiler, etc.) are all human with no powers. That is what seperates them from the characters in Superman or X-Men. DROP THE META-HUMANS!!
Also, where is the rest of Gotham PD? James Gordon, Harvey Bullock, and Renee Montoya. It would be great to see them.
Oh, well. I give up. The show is BAD. -
One of their subsidiaries is a production company. My hypothesis is they were the ones who blocked the hiring of Paul Dini, "He has Baggage". What? Like writing good scripts that fans of the Batman mythos will like? Since this is a Clear Channel-WB TV Network co-production perhaps the target demo is teenage girls from households with an annual income over 65,000 dollars (U.S.), but targeting that demo hurts because of all the references (earthquake, Batgirl in a wheelchair, Blubhaven), inside jokes ("Hey Superfriends", the Shakespeare head), and plots from the comics and Animated Series (Harley, multiple Robins and Grayson now called Nightwing and living in the city of Bludhaven).*** As to the motives of certain characters and Bats himself, for those who did not read Herc's prior postings, the story of Catwoman being "meta-human" comes from the 1970's DC comic about a parallel universe named Earth 2. And this world inspired the "Justice League" cartoon episode about the Justice Guild. In those books Catwoman and Batman did have a child, Catwoman had feline DNA (the animated shows used this plot point in the early 1990's for one of the first Catwoman eps. and for the "splicing" episodes of "Batman Beyond"), and Batman left Gotham after the death of Catwoman.**** I have seen one episode of BoP: the art dirction in great (no surpise since that divion of AOL Time Warner are very good at their job) but the scripts need help and the post production guys need to back off on the editing and sound effects. Less Is More, especially on television. It's not the worst thing on TV, but it can be better.-----later-----m

It's not very good, and it's pitted against one of my top 3 favorites, West Wing. It never had a chance in my house. However, I'd like to take a time out to thank MPfanatic - it's rare that a poster is so vitriolic, insulting, grammatically inept, completely lacking any semblance of punctuation, and amazingly infantile, all simultaneously in only 5 or 6 lines. That was truly impressive. And what the hell does "get some light" mean, anyway? Ah, the kids these days with their catch phrases. This show has some merits - the fight choreography is decent, Mia Sara is pretty good, but it's got too many holes. Saying the dialogue "wasn't as bad" is a pretty poor defense. And defending this show because it's not the Sopranos, and because it's on the WB is stupid. The WB has better shows than this - Smallville, even Gilmore Girls are better written and more well acted. And lest we forget, this is the station that created the Buffy series. They can, and should, do better. Don't defend it based on it's network. Defend it based on it's overall quality, of which, in my opinion, there is little.

by arcturus
I really liked the most current episode of BOP. For a while, though, I had a problem with the actress playing Huntress. She seemed unnecessarily permanently PMSing, and her eyes seemed too spread apart on her face. But yesterday, we actually got to see the sensitive side of Huntress, and this worked wonders for the character. Plus, is it me, or did the cinematographer finally find a way to shoot her in a flatering way? She looked the best she ever has. Even the eyes spaced apart thing is no longer bothersom, as it approximates the look of a cat (character's mother is Catwoman, after all). All in all, the show kicked ass.

Hey! There's only about 40 minutes of show to the hour. Evil Mia Sara still creates a great deal of cognitive dissonance in my fragile litle mind.
-
Is this show camp or are we supposed to feel something for these characters? WB needs to decide soon. If BOP is camp, then lets have the "BIFF! POW!" thing during the fight seasons and better jokes. If we're supposed to give a sh-t about these characters and what they're going through, the powers that be behind BOP need to demand better writing and better direction. I have yet to feel genuine character motivation from this show. What the characters do and why always seems so contrived and forced upon them by the plot (or worse, as if the plotting is just connecting the dots between fight scenes). I'll watch BOP for a few more episodes but it needs to get A LOT better and soon!

You're totally right and completely justified. I mean, you've never posted negative comments on a TB that was about something you disliked. All your posts are positive and supportive, and only on TB's of shows and movies you like. You've never ONCE criticized another TBer for their tastes, or a show for it's quality. You're SO much smarter than us "bitches". . . . . Shut the fuck up, you hypocritical halfwit.

What the hell is that?

Damn, you people need to relax. I mean really, has any superhero movie ever been totally faithful to the comic version? Even X-men and Spiderman had some differences to the comics....but for all of those who diss on BOP for not being 100 percent accurate, well, then i hope you didn't like the Batman movie by tim burton. The Joker didn't kill his parents, He never told Vicki Vale who he was, the whole story of the Joker's origin was jacked up....but it didn't matter....it was still a great, fun movie. So BOP takes alot of liberties with the Batman mythos, personally, I like the whole new spin on things. Remember those "What IF" comic books? Thats kinda what this show is like...what if batman and catwoman had a daughter, and all that........personally, i love how the WB and the producers of this show are daring to be different. Plus, Ashley Scott was on the money in last nite's episode....the best she has been so far...All you haters just make me laugh...you bitch about a show, but we all know damn well you can't stop watching it for some reason.......thats gotta say something
-
Not all the facts have been revealed about the circumstances of many years ago in which Barbara was crippled and Catwoman murdered. Since both Bats and Mr J are gone perhaps they perished in some climactiv battle a la Hoolmes and Moriarity? Harley seems to imply that Joker is dead in her tone of voice. How can a dead guy chase someone?
-
I can't believe that you are vehemently defending this show. Last nights episode was better than their previous ones but that's not saying a lot. This show has poor CGI, bad dialogue, poor acting, contrived plots, production quality that seems to be produced by a Film 101 student and a lack of substance. You must be blind. You can't tell people not to watch or express their feelings on this TB, especially if they are correct. I continue to watch because I'm hoping for a change. Many of us wanted this to be a successful show with quality. I think there is still a chance if they retool it fast. This show needs to change sooner than later. Think about this: when people stop complaining on this TB, then you should worry.
-
Those two chicks rock!!!! Barbra looked so cool beating on those guy's with her stick!Harley was funny as ever!!
-
So what if many people tune in to BOP? That doesn't mean it is any better a show; especially better than Buffy or Angel. The majority of people out there don't watch Buffy or Angel because they're ignorant jackasses who won't give Buffy a chance because "it's a stupid show about a girl killing vampires". My point is, a person is smart and people are dumb. So liking a show or movie because a lot of people flock to it isn't a good enough reason for defending a show's quality.

Of course I'm being sarcastic. I'm just pokingh fun at the negative attitude that most of you posters out there are are displaying. What a bunch of crap. accept BOP as an entertaining show and leave it at that. It doesn't have to be Billy Shakes or anything. Besides, its 99% better than most drivel on TV. If there's any dilemma regarding BOP it's whether to watch that or Twilight Zone, also a quality show on at the same time.
-
It's sort of like this; if a movie or TV show was made according to most fanboy specifications then it would get cancelled after a couple of shows, that is if it got greenlit at all.----------- There's something called "marketability". We fanboys are a pathetically small portion of the audience, no matter what we might like to believe. The fact that fan shows such as this get made at all is enough to make me happy.---------- Diminished expectations? Yep. But believe me, I've got a great vision of what a Batman show would look like, grim, dark, violent....that wouldn't last on TV five seconds. Reconcile that fact with yourself and console yourself with the knowledge that at LEAST it's not a sitcom or Friends clone. Not saying Friends is bad...but remember Boston Common? Single Guy? Naked Truth?--------Give me fanboy lite like Birds of Prey and Smallville any day.

If the ratings are actually decent, it only confirms that all one has to do is show a geek some thigh and they're hooked for life. The more you dumbasses support shit like this the more of it Hollywood will produce. Herc's defense of this shit betrays that he has no standards AT ALL! There are truly fewer shows right now more lame than this crap. How can the movie Batman and Robin get (deservedly) pummelled by the intended audience, yet this BOP monstrosity seems to get a free pass from you guys?
-
Fett, are you claiming the that the people who don't like this show, but keep watching are doing so, because their Parents don't give them a choice? Thats the funniest thing I've ever heard. Just imagining my mom as a BOP fan makes me giggle. Because Parents are definately the target market of this show. "Mom, I want to watch West Wing!" "NO! We're watching BOP and you'll like it! And no more wire hangers!" HAHAHAHA! Oh, my sides, whoo. thats funny. Good work, Fett. ** "It doesn't have to be Billy Shakes or anything." This is what I really don't understand. Why not? Why accept such low standards? Why shouldn't we demand that it be good? There are comics out there that are fantastic. There are hero legends out there that have been around since the dawn of civilization for a reason, they speak to people. The costumed crimefighter is a complex character. Why shouldn't they be capitalizing on all of this? I agree with Hoof, all shows on TV should be great, if you can't do it, yank the fucking thing. Quality is the most important aspect, not costumes and hot chicks. Too bad for BOP that they have neither.

This'll probably be the last time I ever say anything about "Birds of Prey". This entire board seems to have divided into to factions: the "Terrible Show" faction and the "Its Not That Bad" faction. Either way you look at it, though, there are better ways to spend your time. I'd rather spend that hour on Wednesday nights reading the ACTUAL comics that just came out, rather than this poorly made show that is based on a comic book. I'm not watching it anymore, and will therefore not comment on it. Based on the lessening number of posts, it looks like a lot of folks are doing the same.
-
I guess we COULD all just stick to the talkbacks about the shows we like, but where's the fun in that? Where's the healthy debate on the merits, or lack thereof, of the show. Sure, just screaming THIS SUCKZ I HATE it is wasteful, but a lot of the criticisms written here are valid ones, and intelligently written. I, for one, kept watching the show because I like the concept, and I kept hoping they would eventually improve on the weak parts and make it into something I'd kepe up with. So far, I have seen minimal improvement. But, fettastic, if you want to live in a world where no one disagrees with you and everything you love is critic-proof, than maybe you need to move back to Mommy's basement, and for god's sake stay off the damn internet. OK, that was childish, but I couldn't help myself. It's a TALKBACK. This is what we do. We debate the goods and the bads. You've been coming here for a while, get used to it.

"I like Birds of Prey. It's a dark, edgy detective/asskicking show in the best tradition of modern Batman lore. We've never had anything (live action) like it before." ***I don't mind you saying you like BOP, but to say all of that is either a joke on your part or dementia. Are you watching BOP in this dimension or are you on an alternate Earth where this show is as classic as Bladerunner? ****Let's break down your statement. It's dark: Okay. Just because they film a lot in the dark does not make it "dark" or noirish. Movies do "dark" better than television but for an example see Millennium. Edgy detective: what? Hell, the computer does all the work on this show. Ashley couldn't think her way out of a paper bag. Try S1 of Angel, Hack, Shield, or Starsky and Hutch. Ha. Asskicking show: The campy Batman has better fight sequences than this show. Try Alias, Buffy, Angel; hell try Fastlane. Stop being a retard and open your eyes. If you like this show, fine. But don't act like it's Masterpiece Theater.
-
This show seemed like it would be good from the summer previews, but it really sucks. First off, the whole "meta-human community" garbage NEVER should've come to paper. It's ridiculous, and has no place in the DC Comics style. It's more MARVEL style (X-Men, anyone?). Now, BATMAN is the book that I pick up every damn week at the comic store. He's my favorite because he's NOT superpowered, but he's the world's greatest detective. He's cunning, he's capable, and he's dark. He's not Mr. Save the World everyday like Superman. Batman has always been, at the core, a loner. The Robins & the Batgirls only hinder his style (Jason Todd, anyone?). On top of it all, there's no reason, aside from physical deterioration, that Batman would just up & leave for no good reason. Even in BATMAN BEYOND, Bruce Wayne was Batman well in the "grey-haired" years. He's not gonna say, "Oh, I'm 45, time to hang up the cape & cowl". Why change things? Why can't they simply adapt what's already there (and what makes this project possible). The BIRDS OF PREY comic is what made this series, possible, but they threw away practically EVERYTHING about it and just rewrote stuff. BIRDS OF PREY doesn't take place in the future "New Gotham City" (which there isn't one in the comics, anyway). It takes place in the here-and-now. They work with Batman, Nightwing, Robin, & Batgirl. Not in a world that has forgotten these heroes. Now, on top of all that, this show needs a storyarc. Something that links one episode with another not just the "villian of the week" deal here. Although, that's not all. The crappy TV-CGI shit has GOT TO GO! It ALL looks terrible, and the whole visual style sucks. It should be darker, and the villians should be people of stature (i.e. crime bosses, super-villians, assassins, etc.). BUt, we won't see of this, it'll be the same junk week-in, week-out. So, I'll watch the Black Canary episode next week, but that IS the pivtol episode here. In any case, we STILL need that Green Lantern movie, dammit! Nightwing would be good, too, but GL deserves it MOST! -NJM

My mom just got down changing me into big boy pants, so I have some time before my next spoon feeding to comment. "I think it's pretty obvious I was talking about BATMAN related material dipshit!" You're right, the fact that the Bat Sigil was seen briefly on two characters makes this the most original show on television and absolutely, positively nothing like Dawson's Creek, or The Flash or Buffy or Nightman or Mantis or Angel or Misfits of Science or Manimal or any other of the millions of TV shows that do not feature Bat sigils and are there fore nothing like BOP at all. "So rattling of The Flash and Nightman just really embarrasses you." You're right, I am embarassed, so, so embarassed. If we were in public, I'd run from the room sobbing. Oh, BTW thanks for the pee tip, I wrote it down. Boy I tell you, the last car ride ended badly.

It IS fixable. And just because they want to market this show to teen girls doesn't mean it has to be shit in terms of the writing department. OK, so they want to plug in a few pop songs. That's fine. Just do it well, like they do on Buffy or Gilmore Girls. They don't want to delve too much into the fanboy geekier aspects of the Batman mythos? Again, that's not such a big deal -- so long as the writing for everything else (like the characters) is up to par. To those of you who think we're unnecessarily griping, THE COMMON ISSUE WE NAYSAYERS HAVE IS WITH THE QUALITY OF THE WRITING AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! That's it! Most of us aren't asking for extreme adherence to the continuity or elements of the books. (Hell, I'll even admit that Mia Sara as the grown-up Harley seems to be working -- she has the potential to be the best thing about this show.) All we want is better quality, and more original writing, and much better production execution (by this I don't mean a more expensive looking production, just a better executed one -- for example, remove the bad computer animation, which isn't needed most of the time). They want to gear this show to teenage girls, which is fine and dandy, yet it's been recently determined that the main audience this show has attracted has been young men! What the fuck are these producers' problem?! Why won't they just give the actual audience for this series what they want to see, and sell the series to advertisers based on this young male demographic? I highly doubt many teenage girls are watching BoP. It seems to talk down to them, and probably comes across as cheesy and geeky to them. It's like the WB and the producers don't want us to watch this series, even though we're actually the demographic that is still watching it.

It's a shame it was canceled. At the risk of sounding like the Comicbook Guy from Simpsons, I think the Flash was the best live action superhero show ever. It attempted to stay true to the comics, the costume was cool, the actor that played Barry was pretty cool, and they at least had some cool super villians. Not "monster of the week" like Smallville and BOP; and not smallfry "guys with guns" like Lois and Clark: The Adventures of Superman.

Oh, it's true...it's damn true. BTW: WHY THE HELL ISN'T THERE A TALKBACK ABOUT JAM MASTER JAY???? We've had dead celebrity/musician talkbacks before! It's not like he doesn't deserve one.

I had no intention of posting again, but reading subsequent talkbacks has been so amusing that I had to pile on. Statements about how Birds of Prey is dark only suggest that fettastic's picture tube is about to give out. It's about as dark as a "very special episode" of Reba. And yeah, you probably will see me here next week, because reading the posts of people who trash shit like Birds of Prey is amusing, and a true believer like fettastic is a perfect set-up for creative bashers like Qwerty uiop (that "point #10" comment was classic).

"I have a tricked-out Panasonic 47" widescreen HDTV hooked up to a 5.1 surround system with 14" tower speakers and a 150W powered subwoofer. What do you have? I'm guessing a 19" Emerson with one 2" speaker." Can you say: over-compensation?

Whoa, fettastic, wipe the spooge from off the screen. Your extreme lack of common sense with regards to television, specifically BOP, and the use of the term "tricked out," betray your true age to be about 12. Just as most of us probably suspected. Be careful, or mom might walk up behind you and see that you're using those bad four letter words on the internet. Wouldn't want you to get grounded and miss the next, action-packed episode of Birds of Prey. The simple fact is that Birds of Prey is poorly acted, written, and a disgrace to the noble Batman mythos. When people settle for shit, shit will be served by Hollywood. There's plenty of downward trend in entertainment without pissing on the comic book realm. Thank you, though, for the fun banter.

Craggers: Agreed, The Flash WAS the best comic book adaptation
by roobyroo
My memory of the show is now over a decade old, but I recall it having fun villains (pre-joker Mark Hamill, for one). And the actor who played the Flash was actually a decent, rather than a throwaway pretty-boy. If the show had been allowed to develop it might have really gotten great.

I used to never troll on an article about a show I hated, but it seems like almost everyone here hates the show, and is having a world of fun bitching about it. I better start watching, so I know what you guys are talking about! On second thought...

Just tune in for Harley. She really is the best thing about BoP

She's the best thing about BOP, like painkillers are the best thing about breaking a bone. You have to go through a lot of pain, just for a little relief...
