CATCH ME IF YOU CAN Trailer Online!!

Published at:  Oct 20, 2002 12:55:09 PM CDT

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

And whattaya know? It’s in Glorious Quicktime!!

Sorry it took so long to post this link. I’m curious to see what you guys thought of this clip. Personally, I think it’s a knockout, and if the film looks this good and actually sticks to the wonderful script by Jeff Nathanson that I read, this could be one of the most sophisticated entertainments that Spielberg’s ever made.

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT THE TRAILER!!

There’s something about the early ‘60s and Spielberg and Hanks and Leo all combined that just makes this look irresistable. I’ll be there Christmas Day, and can’t wait!

"Moriarty" out.

I can't wait, but the most impressive thing to me from the trailer is Tom Hanks' accent. It is so well-done, particularly in the part about 'fahging checks.'

    Kickass!

    by monkey lover

Woo, yeah! This movie looks to delight and tantalise and all y'all will once again have to admit that ol' Stevie Spielberg is the greatest movie maker of all time. What a great trailer, the best for many years. It is a delight to see two great actors having a joyous time with a great director. DiCaprio especially looks sparkling and shiny with some exceptional witty lines and a nice haircut. This is the number one movie for this Christmas, followed by Leonardo again in GANGS OF NEW YORK. You know it's true. What a year for Spielberg, Hanks and DiCaprio... MINORITY REPORT, ROAD TO PERDITION, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN and GANGS OF NEW YORK all smoking all y'all asses. Whooooooo! Wooooooooo! Praise to them all!

I assume that when you said "Minority Report stinks" you were referring to the sweet smell of genius that oozes from every pore of this delightful movie. Such is the overpowering smell of genius, you wrongly said it "stinks" but I know that you meant to say "smells of pure genius". I also predict that I am right, because no other movie this Christmas will come close to being as good as this. You know it to be true. CATCH will rule, and I will see it many times! Sniff that smell, boy! Sniff the genius fragrance! Bottle it up and spray it on the trees and the sky and the rabbits! For Steve-O Spielberg surely is a GENIUS!

Actually Miramax has just taken the suicidal step of releasing Gangs opposite the Two Towers on December 20th. TTT will be number one, Catch me if you can number 2 and probably Bond at three. Bet you Monkey Boy. PPS That isn't the smell of genius.

    Tom Hanks is The Man

    by o'bannion

The way I feel about this trailer can be sumed up into one word. Eehh... Still I will delude myself into liking it because anything with Tom Hanks in it is gold. Road to Perdition owned my ass this summer. Best movie so far this year. Hanks played Micheal Sullivan with such a cool hand, he deserves another Oscar. Probably his most deserving performance ever, aside from coach Jimmy Dugan in A league of their Own. "Anyone ever tell you, you look like a penis with a hat". Brilliant. Anyways Spielberg and Hanks are the most consistant guys in hollywood. This movie will work on many levels.

    Dude...

    by monkey lover

I was not on about box office, I meant that CATCH will be the best film this Christmas, because it will be. Some things you know to be fact, like when you see the trailer for a Cuba Gooding, Jr. movie you think, "That will be shit," and when you see the trailer for CATCH ME IF YOU CAN you think, "That will be the best film this Christmas." TTT will obviously be the highest grossing one because it's a franchise film. Although it won't make as much money as FOTR did. Because peeps who saw the first one and thought it was a boring bucket of shit (of which there are a fair few) will not go and see it. I thought FOTR was okay, not stunning, but I will see TTT because the trailer is nice. But if some magical fairy said to me, "You must choose between these two sweet tickets" I would pick CMIYC over TTT any day because it is factual information that it will be better. Bosch!

    Can't wait for this one

    by mo1962

Back in '82, I caught Frank Abagnale during his tour for the paperback of his book and you can see why he got away with what he did. For an hour and a half, he had all of us eating out of the palm of his hand with his tale. The charisma was just seeping out of the guy's pores and you could see how he was able to get away with what did. It was almost scary...you wouldn't think that charm could be a dangerous thing...but in the right (or wrong hands) it can be used with devestating results.

This trailer is totally un-Spielberg, but is that a bad thing?

    by cooldan989

HELL NO! That trailer ROCKED! I didn't even mind DiCaprio (finally, Spielberg gives me a reason to stop calling him DiCrapio), and Tom Hanks was in fine form as always. But, man oh man, this movie looks like loads of fun, and finally Spielberg turns over a new leaf and loosens up a little! Maybe if he could at least consider doing a DVD commentary and shooting a movie digitally, Spielberg would be a whole new filmmaker! I can't wait to see this!

    Catch them

    by dickie greenleaf

I saw the trailer a few days ago, and it does indeed look great. Looking ahead to the end of the year, there are a number of films that I'm very confident about (GANGS OF NEW YORK, THE TWO TOWERS, ABOUT SCHMIDT), a number that I'm highly optimistic about (SOLARIS, ADAPTATION, CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND, THE PIANIST, CITY OF GOD) and a number that I'm very curious about (8 MILE, CHICAGO, FAR FROM HEAVEN, THE 25th HOUR, NARC). What they all have in common is that whether they end up being good, bad or indifferent, each looks to be the result of a director empowered to shape and control his material according his vision with the kind of indepedence rarely accorded in the dubious midsts of studio production. I look at these upcoming films (and there are a number of others besides), and see not only a great deal of potential quality, but a unexpected showcase of invention and originality. The winter release slate has certainly taken on a tone somewhat different from previous Oscar-baiting selections. Personally, I find it difficult to imagine that there is any film that can feasibly challenge GANGS OF NEW YORK for supremacy this year (or most others, for that matter), and Scorsese's epic remains irreducibly the most important and significant work to hit theatres in recent memory. However, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN looks as though it may represent the most purely entertaining film of the year, and will serve as yet another demonstration of why Spielberg's genius is so vital; like SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, A.I., and MINORITY REPORT, his new film again sees him exploring new territory and pushing his creative abilities to deliver a piece that diverges substantially in tone from anything previously attempted. One could argue that there may be more individually dinstinctive filmmakers currently working, but I don't believe there is anybody else who can match the sheer range of Spielberg's talents. Combined with the excellent MINORITY REPORT (still the year's best to date), CATCH ME IF YOU CAN will likely confirm Spielberg's prodigious command of the medium and towering stature over the present industry.

Ah, the Pan Am stewardes circa 1960's

    by dunbarlives

I shagged my share. How could I not? They were all so accomodating. Rafelson and I would go scouting locations and well, one thing would lead to another. Women always thought of me as a sexual being. Thats what I told my wife Judy and later Candy Bergin. They needed to grow up, get more in touch with themselves, drop some acid. I remember one time I was flying back from Miami and I nailed a whole flight crew. I happened to run into Bruce Dern, silly guy thought I was burnt out from fighting with Terry Malick. Nah, it was stewardess. Whatever happened to Dern's daughter Laura? Fine girl. Friends with my girl Audrey. Audrey always had nice girlfriends. I nailed most of them. How could I not? They were over the house for a wrap party, I got them all high and then had my way. Of course, I got arrested that night, but it was worth a night in the clink. I like this DiCaprio kid. Reminds me of Jack before he outgrew my guidance. And he nails a lot of women. I would like to exchange poozle stories with Leo. Fine lad. This character reminds me of a white Huey. I miss those Black Panther parties. Good times. It felt good to get rid of my 'white skin privilege' if even for a few hours. The Panthers are back. But it's not the same, they want to protect people from the sniper. Huey would have been the sniper. Who eats at Ponderosa anyway? Certainly not someone who would have seen Easy Rider. It's over for the Schneids.

Spielberg doesn't have a thing for boys...

    by lobanhaki

He has sympathy for them. It would do one well to distinguish the difference. If one looks at his films, you don't get lingering sensual shots of boys, you see them involved in nearly everything but that. I guess things like this come out of a culture that demands that boys only get shown being manly- that is, obnoxious, dull-witted, and interested in sports and nothing else. Instead, he presents them as heroes, invaluable sidekicks, and dramatic and tragic figures. But I guess those of you who make these cracks want young men to have so few emotional role models that some pervert can step in and easily place themselves in the absent position of mentor. I guess those people like to think that- that the only same-sex emotional relationship that one can have is sexual in nature. Well, I think it's good that people like Spielberg actually want to prepare the boys and young men of today to be something else than just buffoons and lazy idiots.

The words of Dickie Greenleaf are golden indeed...

    by monkey lover

He is dead on the money about Spielberg every time! There are too many fanboy turds who feel the need to prove their coolness by slagging off the man Spielberg, thinking that by doing so they are somehow good. But hear this fanboys: Spielberg is the man. Dickie Greenleaf is right when he says Spielberg is the most vital filmmaker out there today. Consider some of his contemporaries, the DePalmas and Coppolas of this world. They churn out cack these days, whereas Spielberg continues to push himself as a filmmaker, eschewing the chance to deliver a turd and instead delving into a wide range of material. In the last few years alone he has reinvented the war genre and given us a return to intelligent science fiction. Plus, as a visual filmmaker he remains top class. Perfectly utilising the talents of his buddy Janusz Kaminski as well as using special effects to advance the story rather than dominate it. He is a bearded genius. He raises the bar. He is the greatest of them all! Ever! Hurrah to Spielberg!

  • I'm sure the average person is just programmed to clamor all over "franchise films". ROTLOL! Wait, no! Ah, don't get me wrong. It's a daft piece of spin. LOL! Hey, but anyways I look forward to GONY I'll have to see it a week late though. Remember Miramax owns 5 percent of LOTR so Harvey Weinstein will be just as eager to see both films reap the gold. Whose to say GONY will not benefit from the increased attendance that weekend? I hope so. I'm sure that's why it's there in the first place and with Catch Me If You Can set to do well it's going to be a great month all around. Something for everyone! So, I have to go now 'cause I'm hungry and we "humans" need food. We're unique that way. Another brilliant insight!

I hope they keep the ending

    by jonquixote

I love the book CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, and it might have the very best ending - in terms of how the tone relates to the rest of the text, and in regards to the surprise - that I had ever read. I was really enjoying MINORITY REPORT...until the weak, weak, overwritten and did I mention weak ending. I fear Speilberg has no more balls - and his recent movies have all had safe and/or sterile and/or trite endings. I know that Abagnale's story doesn't end with the end of CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, and what happened to him afterwards is very interesting, but I sure do hope they keep the ending of the book the same.

GONY vs. TTT: It's called counter programming

    by virkku

There is always room for more than just one film. Besides the showings for TTT will be largely sold out. Smart counter programming is often the key to launching lower profile projects succesfully, and TTT is obviously playing to a slightly different audience. It's not an ideal date to GONY in my opinion, but it could be worse. Anyway, this trailer rules!

    REPORTING FOR DUTY

    by tomvee

"I assume that when you said 'Minority Report stinks' you were referring to the sweet smell of genius that oozes from every pore of this delightful movie. Such is the overpowering smell of genius, you wrongly said it 'stinks' but I know that you meant to say 'smells of pure genius'."

MINORITY REPORT didn't stink, but it sure emitted a powerful odor. This movie had no idea how it should end, which admittedly is not uncommon today. It had some really bad edits, including the business of Cruise's face becoming distorted and then all too suddenly bouncing back. It had some glaring continuity problems, including what did or didn't happen to Cruise's damaged eye after the bathtub scene, as well as the murder-at-the lake replays. Sadly, Cruise was in MI (all flash) mode rather than MAGNOLIA (real acting) mode. And while the movie extends the original short story's plot a bit, it's not a particularly good extension. And what's with Cruise's wife abruptly showing up at the bad guy's office and then unconvincingly rescuing Cruise? This works only if it is a dream, and nothing at the end suggests that -- other than the warden's comment to Cruise just before undergoing his deep freeze about dreaming the ideal dream. Unless Spielberg comes out and confesses the last 10 minutes were a dream, the movie is just another A.I. -- which is not a good thing. A.I. shares many of the same flaws. This is ultimately Spielberg's fault and no one else's.

  • Leo's been extremely difficult to take seriously as a dramatic actor - it always looks so stagey it's insane, which is why I still laugh at the casting in Gangs even after having seen the amazing promise in the form of an astounding trailer. It's just that Leo's been playing The Man in the Iron Mask over and over and it's all been such total shit. Let's face it, Leo's not built for heavy drama, he lacks the depth. The only exception I can think of is his bit part in Gilbert Grape, and that's just because he was in his element, if you catch my meaning. Seriously, though, it was a role he could be creative with, he could play and have fun with. Constant, deadly serious emotion just ties him down, and he slips back into a characature of what he's done before. The only good parts of his performance in Titanic was when he was having fun with it, when it wasn't all so serious, and I'm starting to think he's really meant to a fun, young charmer rather than a deep thinker, and maybe it took Spielberg to find that out. For some reason, this movie just looks absolutely inspired, casting included. For all the pissing I did on the openly gay-looking poster, I really do think this one's gonna do quite well.

    Minority Report...

    by empyreal0

...was about 90% good. A step FAR above A.I. which struck me as bland. Mad Max without the adventure, Kubrik without the balls, clean, sanitized, TV-movie pap. Minority Report only had a few issues it stumbled across, and a few poor and/or pointless directorial decisions (eg, the bouncing eyes, the three nasty food products in a row, the shoddy ending...). Overall, I'd say it wasn't bad. Spielberg looks lately like he wants to be a jack of all trades, the uber-direktor, a god of cinema... but I think he's lost his nearly untouchable status in the process. Ever since Hook.... *sigh*. Anyway, this movie looks like a fresh step in a new direction. Maybe there's hope for Arizona-born and raised Stevie-boy.
