DAREDEVIL Pictures to make you go... Wow!

Published at:  Oct 18, 2002 1:40:27 AM CDT

Hey folks Harry here with the art from the first music single that will be released on DAREDEVIL, plus 3 great shots of characters from DAREDEVIL. I'm told that I should be getting a great KINGPIN shot soon, but for now, I'm happy. Especially with the shot of Cartuna... I mean BULLSEYE. The film had a great script, let's hope the movie is as kinetic as the Bullseye shot wants to promise us! If so, this could be truly spectacular! Here ya go...

It appears that these images were lifted from the Superhero Hype.com site, which is running a fan art contest and running these as images you can use in that contest. Great stuff, and they've got up some others you should go check out immediately! Thanks for the correction, guys, and nice work!

    by darth phallus

well, Daredevil looks like a gay s/m Daddy kinda like the Gimp in Pulp Fiction but definitely cool! Bullseye looks like Cypher from Matrix. And I Prefer Electra's costume in the comic books, I mean, where's the bandana? It looks like they are trying really hard and I hope it works on film because Daredevil was always a great comic character.

I hate to get worked up about a film based on promotional photos

    by st.buggering

But they're making it hard on me. I was pretty excited about the prospect of a movie actually based on a comics storyline to begin with. This just feels like it's all coming together. I really don't mind Elektra's costume change, as it really doesn't make much sense for a ninja to have a "costume" anyway. And I always hated Bullseye's costume in the comics. An 8-year-old could come up with that in a minute and a half. This is an improvement.

The teaser for Daredevil sucked. It looked like a TV show, as if it was a commercial for a very special epsiode of Dark Angel or something. Affleck is all wrong for the part, those costumes look stupid. Man, this movie is going to blow. How depressing.

But now that I see these photos I think Tom of Finland has nailed it. Look up this master comic book artiste on Google! His work on Daredevil amazes me.

Even without seeing this, I'll presume that this movie won't even touch the greatness of Spider-Man. But, hey, maybe it will be in the ranks of X-Men, and I might go see it...for that reason and to get a load of Ben Affleck as a superhero.

What we got here is a problem of colour

    by glynyfaron

And no, I'm no talking about the casting of Kingpin. The trouble is that in movies the only colour that does now and only ever will look is black. Trouble is, Batman got there first. No matter how fucking sleek that make Daredevil's costume it's still fucking red, dark red admittedly, but still red. Hence it looks shite. Bullseye is better but still looks like Cypher from the Matrix. Electra will do.

Comic book costumes converting into film. A tricky situation. X-men looked fine and so did Batman (not counting Forever and B+R). Goblin still didn't look as good as he could have. But when the eyes opened out and we saw Dafoes eyes, the mask worked brilliantly. So what about Daredevil? Elecktra is very different from the comics but cool in her own way. Though why someone would want to go out scantily clad in the night is beyond me. Bullseye looks as cool as ever. But I always liked the mask in the comics. It gave him this anonimity, that made him more powerful and more menacing. Keep the mask and scrap the rest. The mask could have been pulled off if careful enough. Though Bulls eye looks fine as he is thankfully. As for Daredevil. His costume looks fine. But the mask just doesnt seem to work. The billy clubs dont convince. I wouldnt believe that he can bounce them off four different things and catch them again. Same with Bullseye killing someone with a paperclip. OK maybe hurting someone with a paperclip, but killing someon with one. He isn't superhuman! I believe that Johnson will hopefully pull this off. Costumes and all. But in ruth I reckon the film may flop. Daredevil isn't a well known character and the marketing has been poor. Als this is a much more adult genre like The Crow or Blade. I hope he can pull this off. I hope it will get a few hundred million in the first weekend. Lets hope its as good as it can be. I believe. Oh, change of e-mail now @:akj2@aber.ac.uk

"They better not change Daredevil's outfit", so they leave it pretty close to the original, and what do we hear "he looks gay", so they change bullseye's outfit, and what do we hear "he looks gay", as opposed to his original comic book black body stocking?? naw, that ain't to gay...and elektra?? yeah, lots of ninja's are wear'n the red bandanas, especially if they're biker chicks from the 80's!! some of you might fight that if you stop tearing apart the movie before it even comes out, some of you negative types might actually just like it! ever heard of not judging a book by its cover?!? and how many of you whining today also were in the group with "Michael Keaton as Batman?!?! That's the gayist thing i've ever heard, this movies going to suck!!"... grow up kids...and for those of you still kids...your parents are raising you lousy! and for everyone else...isn't jennifer garner just wonderful?

Hell, her arms look bigger than mine =) Pic make she looks like she had to "powder her nose", thou, or someone had to keep her up all night long - if you know what I mean... The Costumes look like "The Tick" live action show leftovers

    by stahimooney

Seriously, BatManuel's costume looked better than Daredevil's.
We've been lucky to get the good run on comics-to-film movies that we've had - be thankful for that -but this one is the breaking point.
This movie was made because the genre is hot, and they see instant box-office because Big Star in Costume has got to be a hit, right?
I mean all those other studios hit big with Up-and-Coming in Costume - let's extend the formula and rake it in.

Part of extending the formula = mediocre director/lackey of the studio and thrashing a good script
in editing until it appeals to the lowest common denominator and product placement is at it's most effective.

This movie may have had good elements, but the moment they signed Ben Affleck over Guy Pierce - you know it's going straight to schlock.

The Hulk will still be decent - but get ready for a whole wave of rotten Superhero movies that's going to bury the genre again.

The pictures don't sell me. (She's is cute though) Hopefully they won't destroy the story. If they try and capture some of the greatness that happened with this character during the Miller years the movie could be great. I hope that it is gritty and adult enough to not disappoint the fans.

Daredevil is one the potentially coolest heros. I don't read the book, but I read most of the miniseries and Kevin Smith's story arc. All very cool. But this movie looks like crap. Not because of wardrobe (exclusively), it just looks like shit. Ben Affleck? Please. That guy pegged it when he said that the traillor looked like a promo for a "very special" Dark Angel. Daredevil could've been an awesome theatrical story. Instead this film will hurt the reputation of an already obscure character.

Let's Hope The Movie IS As Good As These Pictures

    by the hawk

The overall costumes are neat, even if you have to get past the idea of a prep like Affleck playing a superhero. Colin Farrell's Bullseye is cool, but hopefully he invests more menacr into the role. And Jenninfer Garner's get-up; I SING THE BODY ELEKTRA!!! She'll be in nore fanboys' dreams now (but I agree that she may be somewhat on the thinnish side). I thought the trailer was cool, and this doesnt have to be better than the Spider-man or X-Men or the Tim Burton Batman movie to be a hit. But it will help to be better than the Joel Schumacher Batflicks, and so far, that may be the case here. Until the movie's released, just think Elektra.

    by mrcere

Far be it from me to tell people they can't voice their own opinion but I can't figure out what you nay-sayers expect or hope for. I just can't figure it.
Garner isn't CURVEY enough to play a ninja assasin?!? Elecktra is an athlete above all things, not a model.
stahimooney - GUY PIERCE IS SMALL! While he is a talented actor, making him look big and athletic enough to be a guy who beats people with his fists would be like making Travolta look 8 feet tall in "Battlefield Earth." Did you see the attrocious "Count Of Monte Cristo"? GUY PIERCE?! He is just too skinny. Dantes made him look like a midget and it would be sad if Garner out-muscled him on screen.
The movie may or may not work but one thing it DID NOT lack is passion from those involved, contrary to what y'all guess from a couple of photos.

The arrogant lawyer in "Changing Lanes",
The screenwriter for "Good Will Hunting",
The comic book writer/lesbian lover in "Chasing Amy, and the upstart CIA operative in "Sum of All Fears". Its comfortable to know that there's capable, talented actors out there like Ben making filmdom a better place.Ask yourselves, "Where would we be without Ben Affleck?"

    i WANT Jenninfer Garner!!!!!

    by testicleez

ok...at first i was extremely skeptical about afleck playing daredevil. after seeing the pictures of him in and out of costume, i think he'll pull it off quite well. for every piece of shit movie he has made, he's made a very good movie in my opinion. the costume is awesome although like someone else said, the mask, while cool as hell looking, looks kinda off. i'm sure it'll work well though. Jennifer garner is so bodaciously hot especially in that cleavage sporting v cut vest...grrrrrrrrrr! my biggest problem with it all is collin farrell. he's a very good actor and i like the work he's done thus far, but they made him look like a total fag here. the unibrow doesn't help either. he looks like he just stepped out of the blue oyster for God sake. everytime i see him in that gay ass costume, i can't help but think that the jackasses from the police academy movies are gonna bust in and be made to tango with a buncha faggoty biker bitches. y'know the village peopel biker guy clones? yeah...well i'm sure i'll still be pleasantly surprised because i'm a huge DD fan. by the by however, the incredible hulk is gonna blow. i have no confidence in the fidelity and ability of ang lee as a director for anything! the cast is great and i'm sure the fx will be great, but ang lee's overall "vision" is a little near sighted. what's that shit i read about the hulk turns green because he has the genes of a certain type of jelly fish?!?!?! what the fuck over? anyway, i'll still pay my 2 cents to go see it because i am that die hard of a comics nerd. ok i'm done...fir now
    as always...testicleez out!

I don't get what's wrong with the Daredevil outfit

    by steal_dragon

I think it is perfectly fine. What do you want it to be made out of, spandex. Do you know how stupid that would look like. Go to Manwithoutfear.com and go under fanmade costumes and get a little preview of what it would look like. The costume is perfectly fine. All the people that say it looks gay are gay themselves. Furthermore, stop dogging Jennifer Garner. She is perfect for the role and she would look stupid in that red outfit. Remember: what may work in a comicbook, may not work on screen. But I agree with everyone saying that Ben Affleck is wrong for the role. I was just at IMDB and I was looking at all the movies he was in that I have seen, and they all sucked crap, and left a shitty aftertaste. I would have chosen Aaron Eckhart from the movies "The Company of Men" and Erin Brockovich" to play Matt Murdock/Daredevil. Haven't "Spider-Man" taught us that you don't need a big screen actor in the lead to bring in the bucks. I have never heard of Tobey Maguire until he was cast as Spidey. Also, why didn't they choose Marlon Brando for Kingpin. All Kingpin has to do is be bald, and sit his butt in a chair and look bad ass like he did in the Michael Jackson video, "You Rock My World", but without hair, and more dialog. He doesn't need to fight, he just fights in the comic so he isn't boring. In addition, I would have chosen the fighting choreographer from "Kiss of the Dragon" because the "Charlie's Angels"/"Iron Monkey" fighting moves are unnecessary for a movie like this. Additionally, I would have chosen John Woo as the director, and Ted Tally, from "Silence of the Lambs" and "Red Dragon" as the screenwriter. Mark Steven Johnson is screwing this movie up the ass by jamming years and years of Daredevil stories into one movie and the script is only 110 pages long, so it would be about 5 minutes longer than X-men. Don't know why he didn't choose Karen Page as the main love interest in the first movie and then have chosen Elektra as the love interest in the second, so he doesn't mess up her storyline. What an ass.

Well...he does. Look at the glint in the eye, the satisfied smirk, and the motion blur as the offending penile object is quickly hidden from view. He looks like the type of pervert that asks kids is they wanna see some puppies. Daredevil looks awesome, though. Yup, all in all, looking forward to this one.

Well, at least you guys are giving it a chance and not judging it based on a teaser trailer and a couple of photos before it's released. Typical AICN reaction. And ComicStoreGuy, you say, "Of all the Marvel characters that could be made into a movie, I'm pretty fucking glad that Daredevil is the 3rd one after X-Men and Spider-Man." Um, what about Howard the Duck and Blade? Weren't those Marvel characters?

Does anybody find it odd that they picked a black guy, Michael Clarke Duncan, to play a character that's white in both the comics and in cartoons??? Im gonna see Daredevil yea...but It's just plain weird!! I guess I'd have to see a pic of him in costume to really get used to it.

Affleck as Daredevil I can buy - and I think they did a helluva good job with the costume but the choices and then the LOOKS they have for Bullseye and Elektra just make you shake your head.

The actors might acquit themselves just fine and I hope they do but it sure looks like pretty uncreative casting and characterization. I mean, Jennifer Garner as Elektra? Why couldn't they have cast a Monica Belluci-type? Even that freaky Asia Argento would be a better choice than Garner (who I don't wish to insult but maybe that's the way it would be interpreted).

And I have to agree with the silly moustache goatee and leather thing with Bullseye (by the way this photo looks more like a McFarlane Toys one-up than photo of a real person (maybe it is). Again - nothing against the actor but why couldn't it have been Jude Law or Dougray Scott or someone like that? I just don't get it. It's like someone sitting around says, "You know "X" would be a really good comic book to be made into a movie but I'm pretty sure that if it's good enough to made into a movie in the first place that it must be toyed with to work in the marketplace." Stupid.

I hope this movie is good and believe it still can be and probably will be but it appears at least a little uninspired up to this point (beyond the inspiration to make money on the new comic bandwagon).

Cheers to Affleck though - how cool would it be to be frickin DAREDEVIL?

    Peace.

Bullseye looks like an ass. And how is he supposed to jump around and kick Daredevil's ass with that trenchcoat flapping around? His costume in the comics was a lot cooler. Electra doesn't look like Electra. She looks like a wide-eyed little girl who ended up in some leather costume that is decidedly not Electra's. And Daredevil - Jesus Christ, his chin looks bigger than the rest of his face. And why the hell does he have shoulderpads?

    Gay Daredevil costume? Bah!

    by thegreenbear

First off, all the folks saying that Daredevils new costume looks gay, are NOT gay. They're homophobic little shits. Grow up and get an actual vocabulary. I like this site and all this hate talk is just stupid.

You want a REAL example of a bad costume for a great character in a mediocre movie that SHOULD have been better than it was? Look at the Punisher Movie. Despite his acting, Dolph LOOKS JUST LIKE the PUNISHER. He MOVES like the Punisher. His PRESENCE is like the Punishers. Biggest mistake (aside from mediocrity) was the missing Skull. That identified the Punisher. Bruse Wayne with a tattoo of a bat on his arm would NOT be Batman and every fan knows it. Punisher with a skull ONLY on his BOOTKNIFE (?!?!?!?) is NOT the Punisher. I could have forgiven EVERYTHING ELSE in the movie and really liked it, but that was just a BONE HEAD STUPID IDEA.

You can LOOK at the DD costume and SEE that its DareDevil... Naybe not YOUR DD, but it IS OBVIOUSLY HIM. Think. Costumes on comic characters are not just costumes. They are functional on SOME LEVEL. With DD work, bright red spandex would be a HAZARD. But BLOOD RED would intimidate and not look silly. The costume must protect him as well. Spandex won't cut it. Leather would. Anything else would hinder movement and be clunky. It makes sense.

As for Elektra... she may be a trained assassin, but NINJA has become the generic word for it. Several cultures have their own versions. In the US, they are more commonly called SEALS or some other mil special black ops name. They do the same thing as a 'ninja.' So YES she can be Greek AND an assassin and YES she can wear celtic designs. She is VERY GOOD at what she does and is VERY self confident. Her very LOOKS and BODY can entice AND intimidate... SHE CAN dress scantilly, STILL intimidate, and STILL KICK YOUR ASS without you even TOUCHING HER! This may all be based on a COMIC BOOK (which I, too, collect) but SOME things DO make more SENSE than others. THINK about it.

  • I'm slowly building up my Daredevil comic collection in anticipation for this flick. (though in all honesty it was one of my Prof's who turned me on to DD). so far I have "Man Without Fear", Kevin Smith's "Guardian Devil" run (I think his best work in any medium) & "Born Again". Those are really in depth with DD, but I don't have the Frank Miller Electra run (my first exposure to her was in "Man Without Fear"). Are there any TB's that collect it up to when Bullseye "kills" her off?

    Farrel

    by fimbulwinter

I know I posted above that other casting choices would have been preferred for Bullseye but Farrel would be fine if they gave him a shave and quit trying to channel The Matrix in his costuming. When exactly did Bullseye ever look like that or have a flippin Target Corporation tattoo on his forehead (or is that some "brilliant" marketing angle that we just haven't been exposed to yet?

    by dbtayag

Is it just me or that first picture does not look like Ben Affleck? And why the fuck is Bullseye doing that pose, is he supposed to fling his dick out to shoot some bitter flavored semen in Daredevil's face. Other than that, Jennifer has never been hotter. I'm still keeping my expectations extremely LOW. I kept them too high for Spider-Man, and I was disappointed.

THIS doesn't make me go "wow"...

    by 7zerocorpse

But I'll tell you what does: My local IMAX theatre is going to be showing Attack of the Clones on the big screen next month in super-duper audio and ultra-clear giant-sized glory. Now THAT will make me go "WOW!".... This Daredevil flick looks like it's going to be a great rehash of the Matrix. And by the way- I dislike the casting choices, the costumes, and the direction of this flick, and I was NOT one of the people who dissed X-Men (except that in X2 Nightcrawler really should be furry) and I did not gripe about the Matrix until AFTER I watched it. BUT this Daredevil movie has looked like a bad MTV Music video disaster from day one, and I become more convinced of that assessment with every promo shot I see. Affleck was a bad choice. MCD was an AWFUL choice (but he's big. huh huh huh. whatever, he ain't Kingpin.) and Garner was a WHATTHEFUCK choice. This will be Dark Angel meets Batman & Robin. Don't doubt it.

She's even worse than most actresses as far as that goes...her face is absolutely hollow. As far as Daredevil goes, I'm not looking forward to that movie and have no plans to see it, and those promo pics do nothing to change my mind. ...for christ's sake, it hasn't even been released or reviewed yet. i think we are so terrified of another B&R that we start off being so fucking sceptical before these movies get a chance to shine. every time a movie like this comes out it is exactly the same response. as for the costumes, a grown man in a scarlet spandex body suit would indeed look homosexual, at least his eyes are red, why the couldn't give batman his white eyes i just do not know. i cannot imagine any ninja, greek or otherwise, wearing a bright red costume. bullseye would look like like an idiot if he was given the comic book outfit however i am getting sick of seeing long black leather overcoats on film. as for everything else i am reserving judgment untill the movie is released. i suggest everyone else relax and do the same.

    The DD movie:

    by arcaneman

I'm eager to see this movie. I don't think the costumes look gay. They look fine. Although, I would have gone with something else for Elektra. Mainly, give her a dark red top with one sleeve missing, like one sleeved evening gowns that cross over the chest area, leaving the shoulder and arm area exposed. Second, I'd have put a red bandana on. It might have looked stupid, but I'd see if it worked. Maybe they tried and said it looked wrong. Thir, nothing against Jennifer, who'll probably make the role work, but I'd have gone with Salma Hayek. I just think she looks like Elektra.

Maybe to the untrained eye. But true students of Freudian film criticism will recognize those as the Dreaded Dual Dildos of Doctor Dominatro. Y'all ready for your exams?
Seriously...of course the costume looks like an S&M get-up. Where do you think the motivation to skip from rooftop to rooftop in tight shiny outfits dispensing justice to the naughty comes from?
Don't get me wrong. I love comic books. I love Daredevil (one of the only men, living or fictional, with worse taste in women than I've got). But if you don't think all of these "sacred icons" started as expressions of some geeky art student's repressed deviant urges, you're kidding yourselves.
Lighten up. Come down from your four-color towers and out of your respective, repressive closets and enjoy what may well turn out to be another bad super hero movie with the rest of your fellow grin-n-bear-it, comic-to-film fans.
Or shut up and bend over for Dr. D. You choose.
