ENTHUSIASM_3.1!!

Published at:  Sep 15, 2002 2:52:22 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

"HEY! Asshole!!"

“Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Larry David’s Kramer-free HBO sitcom, is soooo much better than his earlier creation, “Seinfeld.” It troubles me how much funnier sitcom dialogue gets when it’s improvised. (The late, great Fox college comedy “Undeclared” used the same improvisational technique to even more hilarious effect.)

10 p.m. Sunday. HBO.

TV Guide says:

Larry David returns for a third season of abrasive humor and inappropriate behavior. The fun begins when Larry, the co-creator of Seinfeld and inspiration for the character George Costanza, decides to join his manager (Jeff Garlin) in opening a new restaurant. The other investors include actors Ted Danson and Michael York, who don't find their new partner's ideas particularly appetizing. Later, at a birthday party for Danson's daughter, Larry is nearly maimed in a piñata accident, which leads to an uncomfortable emergency visit to his former dentist. Finally, a grieving widow (Caroline Aaron) becomes hysterical at the sight of Larry's wardrobe. Cheryl: Cheryl Hines.

Variety says:

Good as "Curb" has been, this 10-episode season should be the year it gets recognized as HBO's finest comedy. … Series has consistently had the finest closing moments in television and this year is no different

    Larry David

    by darth ptown

This show is funny. It needs no psyco-analitic stigma. It's what we all go through.....we do something and sometimes it bites us in the ass....yet never to Larry's degree. High priase to HBO for this "REAL" comedy. But Cheryl Hines is too hot for the likes of Larry David......

    CURB rocks my socks off

    by snapt

CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM is to SEINFELD as SEINFELD is to the fictional sitcom pilot that Jerry and George created for NBC about Jerry getting being assigned a butler by the courts. CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM is real and SEINFELD is fake.

But it had to wait for its Emmy-nomination before HBO and Ain't It Cool showed it any respect.

Why are we talking about this show. Seriously, even for talkback this is slumming.

The Costanza Show Rules Your World

    by dirtyratbastard

And let's be frank, this is basically what Curb Your Enthusiasm is. Larry David proved from the very first episode of this show that he was the sum of what made Seinfeld the classic that it is.

Who wouldn't want a TV show where the protagonist is an asshole? That is genius. Ironically, this was the case with Mr. Show, and you saw where HBO went with that.

I can only hope that we have years and years of Curb, and that we have DVD collections right around the corner...

Actually there are CyE banner ADS

One up on top and one down the side. Still... it's a pretty funny fuckin' show. How is it that you can see the punchlines coming from a mile away and yet... it's still satisfying? Was it just me or did the Bondi-guy's appearance change slightly during their exchange? Anyway... I'll also be interested to see "Comedian," that new documentary about Seinfeld. He's been kind of away for a while.

Will there be another episode this season focusing on the use of

    by maxcalifornia.

Maybe it's just me, but the two episodes that revolved around the usage of the c-word were the best ones...especially that obituary typo. Ha!

CYE is truly a work of genius. I am glad HBO exists because you could never get away with having a character that unlikeable as a protagonist on network television. I bought the "Get a Life" DVD recently, and there is an interview on there with producer David Mirkin. He points out that in England, they will accept having a lead character in a sitcom who is basically an asshole (think Basil Fawlty), but in America there is still pressure to have a hug at the end of every show. With CYE, there are no hugs- and you can't even really feel sorry for Larry, because he causes most of his problems himself by being such a dick.

The funniest damn show on tv. Last night's with chiclets & kabobaphoric was hilarious. Are they planning on releasing any of the previous seasons on DVD? I'd like to watch it from the beginning.

    Curb This Show

    by boxcutter

Tired, tiring, uninspired, infantile, self-indulgent, repetitive, relentless, one-note, vacuous...sorry. Don't get it. Never have. Tried again with last night's episode. Nope. These are thin schticks with laboured plotting about spoiled people living in a bubble. Great idea.

    I must be a moron

    by jtp8000

I must be a moron because I don't find CYE funny.I guess I am so stupid I cannot begin to understand the comic genius behind it. Except, Larry David is not funny, he is annoying, Cheryl Hines is an absolutely terrible actress, Jeff Garlin is the only thing worth watching. I mean- jesus, Ted Danson cannot improvise for shit.
And to compare this show to Fawlty Towers- which had so much fuckin comic genius I can watch it over and over again and still laugh my ass off is ridiculous.
