Is Brad Pitt Off THE FOUNTAIN'! Is The Film Still Moving Ahead'!

Published at:  Aug 29, 2002 9:00:21 AM CDT

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

Okay. Something’s going on. I’m getting a lot of mail about this, all of it the anonymous kind. I think people are just heartbroken reporting it, too, since there’s been so much back and forth on this project. I’m going to try to contact Darren Aronofsky’s office to see what they have to say about this, but here’s what people are saying:

Brad Pitt is out of The Fountain; project crumbling; Darren is scrambling but it looks like the death blow.

They’re saying this:

Friend of mine said you'd want to know this - if you didn't already LOL

Pitt left FOUNTAIN today (though it's been on and off forever as we all know)

The thought of Pitt leaving now, after everything the film has been through, and after he grew THE BEARD... well, it’s just a bloody shame. I think he would have been remarkable in the film.

As soon as we can verify this, I’ll report back. For now, consider it a very heated rumor.

"Moriarty" out.

    Beard = Jennifer Aniston

    by :-o

Just kidding. The boy is as straight as the day is long. He appeared to be peeved about the delays during some interview a while back. Seems he grew the thing and had to endure this blessed HEAT while they kept pushing it back. And this on top of the 'White Sea' falling through. Guess its time for another Fincher or Clooney flick. HAHAHA.

    First.

    Fountain backstory

    by mrs danvers

A couple of months ago due to creative disagreements between director and studio, as you probably know, The Fountain was canned. What you may not know is that there was some crew insurrection as a result of the lightning cancellation. Interiors were due to be shot at Warners' studios on the Gold Coast in Queensland (kind of Australia's Florida). Members of the art department/set-building team, most of whom had trekked up from Sydney and put lives on hold and moved out of homes on the promise of many months' work, were highly angry -- there were to be no payouts or concellation fees. One night shortly after notice had been given, windows of the set-storage building were anonymously smashed and some vandalism done.
Sure enough, with talent that great at the helm and a cast that fabulous, the project was up again this time to be shot this time at Fox's studios in Sydney. Press reports had it that Brad was much relieved at the change of city. Amazing that he's dropped out -- can't believe it. Does this mean Cate will follow?

Hope this ain't true but if it is, I still hope the movie goes ahead with another actor. I REALLY want to see this, AND Year One. I don't care what order they're made in but they both must be made.

    by wee willie

Hopefully someone can replace Pitt. I wonder if they could get DiCaprio? Damon? Affleck? This project sounded too good to be true. Big-brain, big-budget sci-fi. Hopefully Solaris is a hit and they fast-track this one. A real shame if it doesn't see the screen.

Well,I just read that pitt and aniston bought a place in the same area where cate lives,so it seems to be on to me.Anyway,if pitt were to drop out he should be replaced by johnny depp. He's a great actor and needs something worthwhile to do.Besides,he doesn't like to bathe much so it'll be perfect for good ol' johnny boy.

"I Aronofsky, love you camera - i want to make love to you all day, first i will spin you, then whip-pan then I reverse the negative, then I speed you up, an then slow you down - I toy with you camera, unitl you make love to my vision." - "Darren, Brad's beard is on fire" - "Do think that'll look good in reversed colours at 17.5 fps upside down?" - "Uh, I'll just get the extinguisher." "No, get me the telephoto lens." Fucking shooters - that Requiem For a Dream was such a wank fest, I don't even think Aronofsky likes any of his characters, he sure doesn't pay them any attention. They are props to tie his visuals together. I do not like him. Can you tell?

First we lose "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" and now it sounds like we might lose "The Fountain." Well, I guess I'll just have to console myself in the fact that there will be endless sequels to Scooby Doo. (The horror...) *sob*

Brad calls his beard his "Bin Laden"

    by david fincher

I thought that was pretty funny. -- But on a serious note THIS MOVIE MUST BE MADE!! I was so excited about seeing this flick, which looks like an original movie. It's got Aronofsky and Pitt. Too many people underrate Pitt, but when he's given the right material and the right director he's there! Look at his work with Fincher for one...

    The Sailmaker

    by joblow

Dark Horizons had a Variety report up a couple of weeks ago that Pitt and Anthony Hopkins would make The Sailmaker with Richard Attenborough directing. It takes place in the Mexican desert in the 1800s and is about a bunch of prisoners who escape. Don't know when that starts shooting but maybe he won't have to shave.

    Aronofsky

    by delsam

Aronofsky is awesome- one of the best new talents in the industry. Hollywood is just scared of anything different that is not guaranteed huge sums on opening weekend (then fades to nothing since it sucked). If this film was called The Fountain Explosion staring Vin Diesel it would be a smooth go. Such a shame!!!

    by jungle-face-jake

That script review was a JOKE. AICN never retracted it, but every other site Frank Miller said "that shit isn't mine, but it was pretty funny." Next time you want to diss on someone, at least diss when its something they really did. I like Aronofsky, but he's a stupid, stupid person. Why do I say he's stupid? Because he's trying to do The Fountain before Batman: Year One. I'm not saying I'd rather see Batman before Fountain, I'm just talking proper box office politics. If he made Batman first, let it be a hit, then The Fountain wouldn't be this nightmare. Aronfosky, you jackass

    Pitt in On the Road

    by citydoglax

Coppola is going forth with On the Road - and Pitt is slated to star as Neal Cassady.

I love Aronofsky, but Pitt as the Fastest Man Alive would be the movie of the fucking year!!! And Coppola directing a 'sort of' epic again?

It doesn't get better than that.

    by leatherfaceash

Fettastic you're a tool. Why would you ever be so anti-aronofsky? Even if you don't like the guy as a supposed film fan you should at least respect him. Instead you'll sit in your room staring lovingly up at your posters of Freddie Prinze and Don Knotts and continue to pay to see Vin Deisel. Respect little boy...respect

LeatherfaceAsh - I don't like him neither - respect my ass

    by weedymcsmokey

As a "film fan" I find his kinetic style to be distracting, heavy-handed, unnecessary and without impact. While he has clearly read a lot of books about technique and technical aspects, it doesn't make him a competent filmmaker. I felt he has shown disdain for his characters, using them as visual props or vehicles for obvious metaphors. Being a brilliant photographer, and making brilliant movies are two different things. Hey, I like Fincher, Jarmusch, Wenders and other guys who have skill with the technical side of making movies, but its only one side - Aronofsky is half a brilliant director - when he discovers that blowing his artistic shotgun maybe isn't as effective as using a rifle, I'll give a look. Less is more on most occassions

    by cysm ltyh

pitt should stick to this, loose his mind thru the years of shooting the film will have to go thru and end up a gibbering basket case so that the schumacher/copolla/banks rape of 'on the road'never ever happens. am i the only one horrified at the prospect of filming the only truely unfilmable book in the history of literature? copolla need to kick back, make wine and hand zoetrope over to his children. if nothing else to stop him touching any more of his masterpieces. yeah, so 'the fountain' should happen (with a clause in the contract forbidding arronofsky from ever reduxing the masterpiece that THIS WILL BE. HOPE FULL E )

    Sad because it's marketable now

    by the hillbrothers

With the success of Signs, the studio handling Fountain could advertise the film in a cryptic way, giving away very little, as did the Signs trailers. They would get initial numbers out of sheer curiosity, with additional folks coming in after hearing the plot described to them by those who've already seen it, because they'll want to see it for themselves if the plot is as crazy as it's been described. I think alot of people went to see Signs out of curiosity after being told what it was about, regardless of whether or not they were told it was good. It slid back into the no. 1 spot this weekend.
