Now UPDATED... Bruce Campbell still on his booktour dropping bits of fresh, and not so fresh info to fans along the way

Published at:  Aug 26, 2002 11:49:17 PM CDT

Well Father Geek received a couple (make that 3) of bits on fan fave Bruce Campbell today that I thought You might be interested in, nothing earth-shattering, but cool none the less...

Just wanted to toss out a few tidbits about the Bruce. He appeared in
Philadelphia today for a book signing (still shilling "If Chins Could Kill")
and some other things. The following were mentioned on Philly's Y100 Morning
Show with Preston and Steve this morning:

-- The Chin says that he makes a quick appearance in the new Coen Brothers
George Clooney/Catherine Zeta-Jones movie at the end, playing a scene with
another MAJOR character, which he says "is THE key moment in the film where
it all comes together."

(Father Geek note: This is INTOLERABLE CRUELTY, also starring Billy Bob Thornton and Geoffrey Rush. Its being shot in Las Vegas and LA and is set for a September 4, 2003 release in the Netherlands.)

-- The Chin also DAMNS his new movie, SERVING SARA, saying that "even though
you have big stars and a big budget, it doesn't mean it's going to be good.
That one is, at best, a matinee."

-- And I have got to throw in, he really hyped up BUBBA HOTEP saying it was
premeiring at the Toronto Film Festival, and he really wanted a distributor
to pick up the film since it was "the wackiest script I have ever read...
Ever." He really wants someone to pick this one up and market it right since
he feels it was so well done, and deserves to be seen.

Hope it's newsworthy.

And here's a third bit on THE BRUCE just in to Father Geek...

Here's a scoop from the middle of Central Illinois---

It's recently been announced that the guest of honor for Springfield,
Illinois' 1st annual Route 66 Film Festival will be none other than BRUCE
CAMPBELL himself! He has been kind enough to schedule a date on his book
tour for Sunday, September 22nd, 2002 to meet and greet the fans at Barnes
and Noble Book Store (3111 S. Veteran's Parkway/ 2-5pm), and (best of all)
make a special appearance at the Route 66 Drive-In! In honor of his
appearance, there will be a Bruce Campbell double feature---the first flick
will be RUNNING TIME (1997) followed by ESCAPE FROM L.A. (1996). The gates
will open at 6:30, and the show starts at 8. There is absolutely no excuse
for anyone in the area to miss this once-in-a-lifetime event. Admission
will be 6 bucks. Check out further details at www.route66filmfestival.com

Also, while I'm at it, I should mention that Robert Forster will be in
Springfield on Friday, September 27th to host a screening of the eternal
JACKIE BROWN at the Esquire Theater at 10pm. He'll take questions and
comments from the audience immediately preceding the film.

Hope this is of some interest to your readers.

Bruce... buddy: if you're feeling up to it, how 'bout making a stop in Winnipeg, Canada? We're tucked into a big-ass farmers field that stretches across 3 time zones, nestled gently between Vancouver + Toronto (you know, the 2 Canadian cities you people DO learn about.) Lots of fans, the weather is nice. + maybe (JUST maybe) the mayor, would like, name a street after you. We already have a Campbell street... HEY, + a Bruce avenue for that matter... but can you imagine the property values on Evil Dead road?! Think about it. I hope to see you at the local McNally Robinson in a matter of weeks. Affectionately, Dru. Out.

my god, can you say GEEKS? ok, ok...i mean hey, i love his movies too, yes...especially the Evil Deads and Army Of Darkness...but people...you should have seen the losers at this thing...i'm glad i'm just a FAN and not a frickin' GEEK...there are very few things i'm fanatic about and even those i'm not a geek over! some of the conversations these people were having were just jaw droppingly LAME! and i swear to god this guy in front of my friend and i...he was a dead ringer for Donny Osmond! LOL we couldn't stop laughing at these people...

I've watched Bruce's film 'Fanalysis' and i couldn't feel more sorry for the guy...these people flock to him (and many other poor souls of celebrity...) and it prooves that stars like Bruce are SAINTS! I know i couldn't handle that much dorkiness! wow...

other than that...Bruce fucking rocked...i've rarely been in the presence of a funnier man (except when i went to George Carlin's book signing just last summer her in Philly too...). and he was super nice and super cool...just what I had expected. got all my stuff signed and all was good...but i guess i should have mentioned that he had some salad dressing on his chin while signing the last of my stuff...haha oh well...

I met Bruce Campbell at the Booksmith store back in July 2001 and I've never met a guy who makes fun of issues, even his own career. Now he's doubting "Serving Sara." Sounds like the words of a guy who's made to be cool.

Sort of. Since I had already gotten a copy of his book signed on his first go round, my buddy and I drove down for the "Special Surprise Screening" that was held at the Prince Music Theatre. We were hoping for BUBBA HOTEP, but got EVIL DEAD 2 instead. Still, it was a lot of fun and my first time seeing the flick on the big screen. Bruce intro'ed the screening and answered some questions from the audience. Unfortunately, since he spent some of his time answering idiotic questions like "Where you going drinking later?" and discussing with one fan their habit of getting high and watching the film, I wasn't able to ask him about any upcoming projects. He did state though, that CRIMEWAVE will probably never be seen on DVD. (So I guess I need to hold onto my copy which was "liberated" from Blockbuster all those years ago...)

I would at least like to have heard if he confirmed what he was saying last year about a fall 2002 DVD release of The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. Did this fall through or get delayed? Is it just going to silently appear on upcoming release lists like Major League finally did (out September 24)? If the DVD Nazis are gonna hold back our favorite titles, the least they could do is clue us in a lot better on their expected availability. If anyone has any news from *this year* on a Brisco DVD set, I'd like to hear it.

...was the movie Bruce did with Sean Astin? Bruce had a shaved head and was some kind of terrorist that was taking over a ski resort--then Sean had to save the day. Saw it on cable. Very cheesy, very cheeeeeezzzzy. But the X-Files episode he was in was good. Especially liked the part where he thought he sucked the life out of one of his wives, but
the paramedics revived her. Bruce and Duchovny had good chemistry together.

I saw Bruce last year in Seattle and though I didn't stick around for the 4 hours it probably would've taken to get my book signed, it was really fun to see him in person. And that X-Files episode was a goody. One of the better ones of the latter X-File years. Bruce is still the man. Though, I'm ashamed to say, I have been and will continue to do so, avoid Icebreaker. Too bad too. Both the Bruce and Sean "Samwise" Astin (son of the original Gomez Adams) in the same flick. Righteous.

I'd just like to point out that in April, I was in a book store in Toronto buying "If Chins Could Kill" and the guy behind me said "You know, I heard that book was pretty good." I turned around and Mr. Bruce Campbell himself was standing in line behind me. He was nice enough to sign my book, unlike Brent Spiner, who was in Toronto this weekend charging over $100 for his John Hancock, and he didn't even sign them in public. The saddest part in this sordid affair? People actually paid it.

Has Bruce Revealed the Secret of Armies of Darkness"?

    by booknerd56

It's one that I've pondered: the "original ending" of "Armies of Darkness" is a futuristic parallel to that of "Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn" wherein that Ashe (in AoD) is left screaming at the sight of the city in ruins because he overslept his magic-potion slumber by 100 years. (He did one drop too many, y'see.)

Anyway, does anyone know if Campbell has revealed what I suspect: that the end of AoD was meant to leave the way open for a fourth "Evil Dead" film, this one set in the future? And that Sam Raimi decided to re-shoot the ending now in place because he did not really want to continue the "Evil Dead" saga?

    NO...WHAT'S YOUR DEAL?

    by uberob

People like Bruce Campbell for the same reason they like Kevin Smith. Their films are not art and sometimes not even good. But they are endearing. And they give for their fans, with websites and returned e-mails and the like. We can live vicariously through their work because they share. Also, they seem like good guys...someone that would be a blast to hang with. Showing your frustration over not being able to understand this simple concept of fandom by logging your disapproval is annoying. It's comparable to people who complain that there is too much sex/violence/foul language on TV. If you don't like it, change the channel. And if you don't like fan adoration, don't read articles on AICN that say "Bruce Campbell". Never did I hear anyone say "you know what sounds really good right now? Bruce Campbell's Penis!" We just like the guy and are happy when he does well.

Don't you get it by now... Most 200 mil gross epics are pure shit. Box office take does not a movie make. Bruce is the champion of geekdom. He's been in cult classic after cult classic, and he plays all his characters and delivers his lines like the John Wayne of B movies should. Hollywood might not see the talent inherent in Campbell, but we sure as hell do. Bruce loves films and he loves us fans. It's hard not bow down to the man who cares so much about and enjoys so much of what he does. Particularly with how long he's been at it and how many times he's been shisted by motion picture studios of America.
