DOWNUNDER REPORT: 42

STRAW DOGS

Australian director John Polson (SWIMFAN), is currently in pre-production with FEAR ALONE, the re-make of the spectacular Sam Peckinpah film, STRAW DOGS. Damn, this was such a good film the first time round. Why, oh why do they have to remake it? Polson told, the Australian newspaper, The Age, "It's Panic Room set in the countryside", Polson told The Age from Sydney. "I don't mind saying, much as I like STRAW DOGS, this is going to be more commercial. It will be violent, but not for the hell of it. In the modern-day version, the theme is that you can't escape your demons - you've got to stop running and fight occasionally." Polson became involved with the project after his agent sent him the script. He discussed it with actor Edward Norton, who has an off-screen role as one of the film's producers. "We talked for two hours about everything except the movie; then I gave him my pitch and they offered me the job", says Polson. No casting decisions have been made, but Polson hints at "a huge chance" Australians could take leading roles. "Guy Pearce would be at the top, or near the top, of the list of people to go to for the lead male role," he says, while "Naomi Watts would be up there" for the female lead, as is another Australian actress, Radha Mitchell. "These aren't people who are top of the list because of me," he says. "They were probably on top before I came along."
Polson is currently promoting SWIMFAN, starring Erika Christiansen (TRAFFIC).

    by wasp

...whew, hehehe, oh boy, Dennis Hopper, Ol' Blue Eyes Glazed Over, HAHAHAHAHA, hehe, oh man, too good to be true *wipes a tear away and chuckles* Ok, that said, I'm getting sick of remakes. I mean, so sick I want to go an strangle the people responsible. Do terrible things to them. The man that directed the abomination Swimfan dares remake Peckinpah? Vintage Peckinpah? Frickin' Straw Dogs? Someone will go to hell for this.

    Potential cast for Fear Alone

    by otis von zipper

Needless remake or not, those cast possibilities for Fear Alone (Guy Pearce, Naomi Watts, Radha Mitchell) will get me to see it. Well, let's just say that there's much more potential for me having an interest in seeing it. Swimfan could easily be a load, so perhaps none of these people will get near the production. Bottom line; a film with Pearce, Watts or Mitchell is a candidate for my $$$.

I wonder how that works. If they just store the scripts, presumably they will then have a day when they run them all. How utterly mad that would be, just type in: C:\> build TwoTowers and watch that fucker go. It's doubtless more complicated than that, but still, that's pretty interesting.

    Hopper, eh?

    by wee willie

This is so crazy it just might work. Hopper is a little older than Frank was at the time, but Hopper's taken much better care of himself than Sinatra did, what with all of Old Blue Eye's boozing. So Dennis will definitely be spry enough for the role. Just be thankful that Hopper, a life-long "fitness nut", has always eschewed the "high life" for his daily routine of hearty calisthenics, deep knee bends, and getting higher than shit on solvents to keep him young, trim, and sharp-witted.

Keep your fingers crossed for Pan

    by joeyj1220

Let's hope this doesn't become another shitty "Hook". I hope they stay true to Barrie's material and for Godz sakes, when will someone make a "Peter Pan" where Cpt. Hook is actually frightening instead of being a buffoon?
