Beautiful TREASURE PLANET Poster!

Published at:  Aug 21, 2002 4:39:00 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... Not sure if this movie has anything going for it beyond the beautiful animation and what sounds like the beginnings of a great potential score... But damn if it ain't purty, ya know what I mean Vern? I just hope that the script doesn't ambush it. And you know the IMAX sized version of this film is going to be one of those stunners, just in pure animation oomph! Here ya go...

Harry,

Haven't seen this one anywhere else, so you may be
interested...

CLiCK here To See This Beautiful Poster!

This looks amazing. Hopefully the budget wont get slashed producing one of those "could of been" great films like Atlantis.

To answer the talkbacker's question, the next non-computer generated flick from Disney is "Home On The Range" (previously called "Sweating Bullets"), a western where the cows are the cowboys.

The Treasure Planet poster is indeed very beautiful, it has like a watercolor feel to it. I cannot wait for the The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers poster. I sure hope it rocks 100 times more than the first poster (which was awesome as well).

I have a question about "Home on the Range"

    by wee willie

In a crazy alternaive universe where cows are cowboys, do they raise humans? And milk them? What do the milk cartons look like? Do horses live as beasts of burden in this universe, or are they, like the cows, free. Do the cows eat people? What would the meat section in their grocery stoe look like? Pretty horrible if you ask me. Sorry to go off topic. The poster looks very cool. The kind of poster that would have made me want to see the movie when I was a kid. Now that I'm an adult I only 'sort of' want to see the movie. Since I'm older and my standards are higher, I'm pretty sure they'll do something to cock up the story, like by having funny talking animals or fey musical numbers by Phil Collins or Sting. Or Elton John.

Gorgeous poster for a film aimed squarely at the kids. Let's hope it is not another ATLANTIS at the box office. My youngest watches ATLANTIS at least once a month, by the way. I have watched most of it, even though I am way past the age to have the patience to sit through a feature-length cartoon anymore. It's not all bad.

    Disney makes me squirm

    by ashton75

I agree that Atlantis was not that great. It made me feel like a kid again in that I found it impossible to sit still through that film as it was so boring. Kept moving around my seat like a 7 year old jacked on pixie sticks. Whatever happened to Disney anyway? Once upon a time in the 1990's it seemed that everything they did was box office gold. Then suddenly it fell away with one bore fest after another. Atlantis being the capper for me. Hopefully Disney can find it's way back to its "roots" or whatever with this film.

    I've seen "Treasure Planet"...

    by carson dyle

...and while I was admittedly skeptical going into the screening, I was quite pleasantly surprised by what I saw. Despite rumors of a troubled production, "T.P." is a solid piece of storytelling with fun characters, clever dialogue, great voice-casting, a brisk pace, and some of the coolest conceptual design work ever committed to celluloid (you WILL want the toys from this movie). Does it skew towards kids? Of course; it's a Disney movie. Will adults enjoy it too? Put it this way: I'm 40, and I had a blast.

    P.S.

I do NOT work for Disney.

Get used to seeing all of this stuff. Not too long ago, selling stuff to kids was just not done. Then, presumably with the advent of weapons-grade whinning, companies discovered the money pit snot-nosed little shits offered. Now they provide these visual pixie sticks, bombard the intended audience and wait for the parents to simply cave. I'm not really complaining about it. It's just business in the modern age, I guess. Ah, anyway, I always love looking at trailers and the like, they invariably are more entertaining than the actual product they sell. The genius of marketing. I'm gonna puke.

Didn't they do this film in Japan back in the early 90's

    by monkey_king

Is anyone else familiar with what Old Monkey speaks of? The character designs from the anime even looked like Leiji Matsumoto's work as well. There were even ads for it in Animage magazine for it available on VHS and LD.

It's GOT to be better than Atlantis....right?

    by osmosis jones

John Musker and Ron Clements have a great Disney filmography thus far (Little Mermaid, Aladdin, the criminally underrated Hercules), but Atlantis directors Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise made Beauty and The Beast and The Hunchback Of Notre Dame, and still churned out one of the most soulless and technically inept Disney cartoons ever. Still, that poster *is* gorgeous. Oh yeah, and who else is sick of characters in action movies yelling variations on "Whoo-Hoo!" for the sole purpose of putting it in the ads (see also Spirit)? Almost as much of a cliche as having someone shout "Let's rock 'n' Roll!"

What do I know about this movie? It has a fantastic looking trailer and a fantastic looking poster. While I quite enjoyed Atlantis, I am not going to deny that it really should/could have been that mature leap Disney STILL needs to take. Still, this poster is going to cover children's walls for years to come.

    by noriko takaya

Looks good from what I've seen of the trailers so I'll be there. Sooner or later, if they keep trying, they'll be releasing things on the level of Macross Plus and then they will truly be animation Gods (as if they weren't already). Toppu o Nerae!

    by 81666

could've sworn i've heard it somewhere else before, but hey, i love it. it's a grand scale song, gets me amped to see it, though i'm no a fan of the desing of the villain (whom i believe is the husky laser eyed pirate, but i can't be sure) and just the opening shots of him on that sky board (eat yer heart out micheal j. fox *though he resembles him*)
and they way he utters the line "Treasure Planet..." has me wanting to see it.

"Get used to seeing all of this stuff. Not too long ago, selling stuff to kids was just not done."

Just HOW long ago? Disney (and a whole other bunch of companies)has been doing this (though in a much more restrained way) since the 1930s.

  • When will Disney get it's fucking corporate head together and give us stories that MAKE SENSE! "Fantasy-universe" indeed. That's the ONLY god-damned explanation for sailing ships between the stars in WHAT WOULD NORMALLY BE AIRLESS SPACE. If only the idiot screenwriters had used REAL SPACESHIPS! THAT would have been cool as hell for a futuristic retelling of Treasure Island. Why was THAT so damned hard to write??? GOD DAMN DISNEY!

    by drath

Like Osmosis Jones said, the music in the trailer was from Far and Away, which being a John Williams score is something I think Harry would know. I guess he's a John Newton Howard fan since all we know is that he's doing the score(I don't hate him, I just don't find his Disney scores as strong as they could be). So far, I LOVE what I've seen of Treasure Planet. I really hope it not only works, but finds its audience too. Disney needs a high profile success with its traditional animation soon or that trendy Eisner will abandon the medium for all CG films which, based on Dinosaur, will be no less lifeless. I don't agree with Harry that TP only has the animation and music going for it. The concept, adapting a pirate novel into an Science Fantasy adventure, sounds strong to me. It promises at least a better foundation than Titan AE or Atlantis had. The voice talent is promising (I still think Joseph Gordon Levitt could be the next John Cusak if he works at it and puts 3rd Rock behind him). I'm not sure if the charm of a Pixar movie will be achieved, but I won't give up hoping.

selling stuff to kids and selling stuff to families are two very distinct audiences. Kids, as a demographic of there own have only been exploited releatively recently (I'm talking 6 and under). By today's logic, it seems obvious - prior to the early 70s, kids toys and items were marketed to parents. So shut up fucko.
