    by cooldan989

...but the pictures from Catch Me if You Can look very interesting and Spielberg seems to be onto something yet again.

These images have a very British (Kubrickian) feel to them

    by julius caeser

anyone else agree, also anyone know what this film is about.

I think it's great that Spielberg has (for his last few films) has gone for a strong visual style.

obviously the Kubrick influence in his work. And a decent cinematographer.

    Fucking Return key

    by ownerx

I believe this film is based on a true story about a con artist(played by DiCaprio) and the FBI agent who's trailing him. They had a snippet one morning on Good Morning America becuase the residents in Harlem were bitching about the production fucking things up in their neighborhood.

    Where's Walken?

    by homer jay

Dammit I want pics of Walken in this! Judging by the goofy look of Hanks I can only imagine what Spielberg is doing with Walken. Walken is approaching Shatner-esque self parody these days (I mean that in a good way).

Too young to successfully con people into thinking he's an airline pilot. I hope his voice has broken by now.

    Saw them Filming This!

    by bash_branigan

Spielberg, Hanks, Martin Sheen, Di Caprio... at the old courthouse building in Santa Ana, CA, where there seems to be a location shoot once or twice a year...

Anyway...Martin Sheen couldn't have been nicer, signing everyone's autographs, even when he was trying to have breakfast and read the paper. Di Caprio however got in a car and his driver took him 200 feet to his trailer so that he didn't have to walke through the small crowd of 15 people. Go Figure. I got no glimpse of Spielberg or Hanks, but a friend has a great picture of them on the set.

    Interesting...

    by jimmymarathon

The movie is about this brilliant real-life gentlemen criminal (if there is such a thing) Frank Abignail and his book that that the movie shares a title with. You can probably find it at your local library, and it's definitly worth it. You just can't believe some of the things he does and gets away with! I guess I never really saw Dicaprio playing him, but I'm not going to nitpick.

    Kubrick Look Alike

    by crustybaguette

It's apparent from the look and detached aura of Spielberg's last few films that he's been studying the films of Stanley Kubrick. Looking at these latest pics from CMIYC further confirms it. It'll be interesting to see if Leo will bounce back. The previous post that defended his acting efforts overlooked Gilbert Grape and how about A Boy's Life with DeNiro. The bashing only began after Titanic became a monster hit and he went underground to escape all the attention that film brought him.

    Leo and Kubrick

    by sheeld

These pics reveal absolutely nothing that suggests Spielberg is going the Kubrick way nowadays. You see one still with nice composition and everyone is yelling out KUBRICK! If Steven wouldn't have made A.I. no one would ever bring up the 'similarities' with the Kub. Spielberg knows how to make movies, he doesn't need to rip off another master. The bitching about DiCaprio is ignorant too.. Not only did he get great recognition for his early roles in Gilbert Grape and This Boy's Life, but his work in Quick and the Dead, Basketball Diaries, ROmeo and JUliet and even Titanic was superb too. Just because he's good looking doesn't automatically mean he's a bad actor. Jealous bastards

    Is this serious?

    by roosterbooster

Di Caprio is seriously playing an airline pilot, it's not some sort of joke or dream sequence? He looks about twelve years old! He looks like a little kid playing dressing up games. Nobody would get on the flight if they saw him driving. On the subject of the Kubrick... yes I would have to say some of these stills smell of his influence and there's nothing wrong with that.

    According to

    by nordling

several interviews, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN is going to be a lighter work from the Beard. Preston Sturges' name was thrown around a bit as was Billy Wilder. I think the interview was in EMPIRE magazine. Anyway, although not an out-and-out comedy, this one is going to be more "accessible" than some of his other recent work. Guess he found the story funny.

    Kubrick andSpielberg (AAAAAAAG)

    by arzak

I love how Spielberg choses to homage Kubrick AFTER he makes A.I. like he's feeling guilty cause he took what coud have been transcendent and turned it into a creepy care bears episode. Or more like a 2 and a half hour episode of the new Outer Limits . His half assed "nods" to Kubrick in Minority Report, and (maybe) this, and ONCE in A.I. (if putting classical music over a stark composition counts) are not retribution enough. Did you notice that SS homaged HIMSELF several times in A.I. -- E.T. , RAIDERS. ENCOUNTERS and oh yeah the movie was a tonal remake of HOOK. KUBRICK was humoring him when he said he wanted him to direct it. And even if he was serious he said DIRECT not SQUANDER. The A.I. DVD supplementals mention Kubrick once or twice like he never existed or barely had a hand in it before the god-like Spielberg decided to step in and save the day. It's revisionist history propaganda -- literally, with dour villainous music playing over still photos of Kubrick and fanciful "happy" music playing under Spielberg talking about HIS take on it. Don't beleive me, rent it and watch the extras again. Think I'm insane? -- It's a matter of HONOR goddammit!!!! The first Twenty or thirty minutes if REPORT showed promise (and at times it was downright cool) but then it deteriorated into a monotonous, overwrought crap. Imagine if it had ended with Cruise killing his sons murderer (if it really had been). A self fulfilling prophecy, sci-fi revenge movie. I've never seen that. Whatever minority report turned into I feel like I've seen a thousand times. Also John Williams score was a tired Raiders retread that was totally out of place in that movie.
Tom Hanks looks like Tom Hanks to me... and he always will. Read Alexander Delarge's revie of Kubrick's treatment andsee for yourself ( http://homepage.mac.com/gabbagabbahey/ai.txt )

Have any one of you read the book?

    by oasis1485

If you've read the book then you know that its a good thing that Dicrapio looks so damn young as a pilot. Frank Abagnale Jr. (the guy who wrote the autobiography on which this movie is based on) was 17 when he conned airlines, pilots and began a huge scheme that included getting free air travel all over the country (eventially all over the world) and many 'paperhanging' racquets.

This film will rule all your asses, fools!

    by monkey lover

Spielberg is the master of the universe, and he is the greatest. Combine his talents with a gifted crew and some fine actors and you have a guaranteed fine-smelling slice of delight. All y'all fools saying M. Night is the bomb now know nothing at all! He is merely an apprentice, NOT the master! And how come Harry dismissed Spielberg as "adaption boy" yet proclaims Peter Jackson to be a visionary genius... for adapting some books! That is some fucked up shit, my main man. Bow down to the might of Spielberg, Hanks and DiCaprio. That reminds me, Leo will return to his King of the World position at Christmas, what with this and Gangs of New York coming out. He'll be smokin' hot once more! Hooray for the quality film-makers! Boo to the peddlers of shite!

Tom Hanks or Dupont et Dupond

    by o'bannion

Is it just me or does Tom Hanks look like a character from a French Comic Book. e.g. Tin Tin. Zoot alord! And when he is standing opposite leo at the airport , Hanks looks like a lobster. I hope he doesn't come off as a complete ass in this movie. I trust spielberg though. And Hanks has reached a point in his career where nothing can sink him. Road to Perdition is the best movie of the year, albeit it's been a pretty lackluster year. Still Road to Perdition owns your asses and Tom Hanks owns that film. Best actor out there. I don't care about character actors and actors that really submerge into their roles. Any role tom hanks plays I care deeply for that character. This is the worst written piece of dribble I've ever written. I'm just venting, no structure. And I;m spent.

    Road to perdition......

    by jimmy jazz

was a pretentious bore. Not as self-important as American Beauty but pretty close. Mendes needs to go far, far away from here.

To tell you the truth, I am glad that this film is more comedic in tone. I was getting sick of Hanks and his shameless Oscar baiting. The guy is a funny mofo. He should play to his strength as a comedian.
As a dramatic actor he is OK, but he really shines in comedy. It's good to see he hasn't become a complete stodge.
    Oh, and I liked 1941.

    Abagnale

    by sleazy dinosaur

The book this is based on was awesome, Frank Abagnale started dressing like an airline pilot in his teens and conned the airlines into flying him around for free, and wrote over a million dollars in bad checks, at the time no one questioned someone they believed to work for Pan Am as a pilot. He never actually flew the planes, he didn't have the first clue how to, his greatest fear was that one of the pilots would hand him the controls one day. He also passed himself off as a doctor and a college professor, all before he was 21, this movie should kick ass.

    SPEILBERG DICAPRIO GANDOLFINI!

    by david aaronson

The book of CMIYC that i read(brilliant-read it in one sitting) states soon to be a major film starring Leo.Dicaprio & JAMES GANDOLFINI. This was around the time that among others Gore Verbinski& Lasse Hallstrom(who owed Miramax a film)were being touted to direct. Dicaprio would have been happy with Hallstrom,Dreamworks however didnt want Miramax(based on previous battles)getting a piece of the action. Anyhoo with Dicaprio delayed on GONY the script was polished,SS decides to direct(it is his studio U know)out goes Tony Soprano,in comes the Hankster and weve got ourselves a go picture. BTW in the book Joe Shaye(Hanks) and Frank Abagnale(Walken)are secondary characters-these roles have obviously been expanded in the script.(this worries me). Oh on the Kubrick thing-way off the mark,Spielberg is going for a Martin Brest/Midnight Run(airports) comedy chase thriller sort of thing! PS SORRY BOUT MY PREVIOUS FALSE START. PPS anybody out there got any fixed December(Dicaprio) release dates on the big Xmas Miramax(GONY) Dreamworks(CMIYC) Oscar battle.

Although he was under 21, the book describes Abagnale as looking older and able to pass himself off as a airplane pilot.
