Freddy vs. Jason is finally underway(I know it isn't the bastion of classy cinema, but it should be fun), and the thing that excites me the most: the triple threat of Demme, Foster, and especially Richard Price. This excites me like none other. Now let's have Buzz compeltely decimate whats wrong hollywood

So long as Terry has a "Give-me-shit-loads-of-cash-for-Don-Quixote-on-completion" clause in his contract I guess it's OK. It's not like it's a dumb romantic comedy or anything, and will now be a damn sight more interesting than if Terry HADN'T directed it.

And let's not even get into the rest of the sad, sad movies on this list: SEABISCUIT, GOOD BOY, BROKEN LIZARD'S CLUB DREAD, Steve Miner's TREASURE ISLAND, IN HER SHOES, CAMP, DON'T SEND HELP, Gwyneth Paltrow as Sylvia Plath ... and the Rock as KING KAMEHAMEHA??!!! This is some of the most ridiculous, pathetic, hilarious ish I've ever heard. For those of you who have never heard of the author of Terry Gilliam's next film, Sabatini is the guy who also wrote THE SEA HAWK and CAPTAIN BLOOD, both of which were turned into damn fine Errol Flynn movies. Can't wait to see what Gilliam will do with the material.

  • You're right, Spiderman sucked web. Uninspired directing, lousy performances (Tobey was alright, but everyone else, yuck), very iffy visual effects, a terribly boring score, awkward action set pieces...but, most of all, David Koepp's LAME screenplay. Yeah, he was fairly true to the story, but what does that matter when his screenplay is a mess, flawed with inconsistent use of narrative devices, cliches all over, a haphazard structure, and dialogue that could make George Lucas look like Shakespeare? I would honestly rather have had a script that was totally unfaithful to the original comic book as long as it was well-written and cinematic. But that's just me.

    Indiana Jones DVD set......?

    by doom ii

This is off-topic, but does anyone know what the deal is with the Indiana Jones & Star Wars DVD sets that are being sold all over eBay and the 'net? I ordered a set off a Malaysian website called getvcds.com and am not sure if these are legit. I trust the site as I have ordered tons of vcd's from them, but I do not believe these movies have been released in ANY country on DVD. They claim 5.1 DTS Dolby, widescreen, dual-layered dvd's. Are these burned from laserdisc or what?

I said as much on its talkback when it came out. I'm as constant as the northern star. You're right, though, most of the geeks around here seemed to wet their pants for it at the time. Maybe they don't feel like arguing about it.

    No, I hate Schumacher too

    by wasp

See, that's the whole thing, I don't like corny comic book movies that don't know how to play their kitsch factor, lack a compelling visual style, and have limp action. I like the first two Batmans. I like X-Men. I like Superman 2. None of them are exactly great films, but I'd say they're pretty decent entertainment. Anyways, Willem Dafoe's performance in Spiderman was probably the worst that I've seen from him. J.K. Simmons didn't do anything but play it over-the-top, and not in a funny way, in an annoying way. Auntie and Uncle were bad. Kirsten Dunst was bad. Franco came out the most likable person in the whole movie, but he was still stiff and handed some truly bad lines near the end there, "I swear on my father's grave, Spiderman will PAY." Tobey Maguire was good casting, I'll admit, and I think that's pretty much singlehandedly sealed the film's appeal to a lot of critics and geeks.

    Hmmm...

    by halloween68

Somehow, having read The Bell Jar, I kinda' doubt Sylvia Plath would have been anywhere near the way she was if she looked like Gwyneth Paltrow. *** Also, what's this new thing Gilliam's doing? "Scalamouche, Scalamouche, will he do the Fandango?" Anybody read this? What's the deal on it if you have. Can it be made into a Gilliam picture? The way we know and love Gilliam pictures? I still want Good Omens. Don Quixote too.

Don Quixote is SO 16th Century

    by jonquixote

You can't expect to get financial backing for a concept as mouldy as that. Gilliam should get off his ass and talk to me. The Man Who Killed Jon Quixote, the simple, original story of how a talkbacker was rocketed to Earth from a dying planet, uses his overendowment to establish himself in the porno industry, which eventually becomes a cover for his CIA work before getting arrested for moonshining and having to escape the local hillbilly police in elaborate backroads car chases in order to get to Manhattan so I can save the world from Godzilla, would be an instant classic. Oh, and then I get shot by John Hinkley. Stupid fuckin' parole system.
