What The Hell Is Going On With RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA'!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

I don’t even know what to say about this. I hope it’s one of those non-stories like the Nicholas Brendan as Green Lantern piece (a scoop broken by Superhero Hype and then debunked by them as well) or the HEAVENLY CREATURES fullscreen DVD thing (a misprint that was since corrected by Buena Vista, which has every intention of putting the film out in full widescreen format). I’ll just let you read the letter I got:

Harry, saw this on CNET's www.news.com, RIGHT HERE!!

seems Industrial Light and Magic (and others) are moving to Linux rather than SGI's. Fine and dandy.

What's not so fine, however, is this throwaway line in the article..

Digital Revelations is largely relying on Intel-based computers for the effects on "Rendezvous with Ramah," a thriller coming out next year in which a group of humans seek revenge on aliens that blow up Italy.

Rendezvous with Rama? Aliens that blow up Italy? NOOOOOOOOOO.....

Another scooper seemed equally concerned by the same phrase:

Harry,

I was reading an article over at News.com concerning the shift in computer technology at special effects houses. Nothnig terribly unusual, or even worth mentioning. Until I hit this sentence:

"Digital Revelations is largely relying on Intel-based computers for the effects on "Rendezvous with Ramah," a thriller coming out next year in which a group of humans seek revenge on aliens that blow up Italy. "

Now, they definitely spelled the name wrong, but that's not what bothers me. It's the description of the movie. Perhaps my memory has failed me, but I don't remember the destruction of Italy or the concept of revenge having anything to do with the plot of the original book. Are they completely screwing with the story, or has this been misreported?

You can call me Toothgnip. (And I'll call you Al.)

I have no idea what to say. This can’t possibly be right. Hopefully, we’ll be able to sort out how something so fundamentally wrong might be reported. It’s got to be a mistake. It’s got to be. I’ll just keep telling myself that, because the alternative... it’s too hideous to contemplate.

"Moriarty" out.
