The Next New ANGEL!!

Angel 4.1 FAQ

What’s it called?

“Deep Down.”

Who do we deal with first – floaty Cordelia or floaty Angel?

Neither. The first scene of the fourth season is set on Oct. 28, 1985 at Thorpe’s Academy in Gills Rock, Wisc. There we meet 7-year-old Gwen Raiden. We also meet Gwen’s parents and Lydia Thorpe, who heads the Academy. We learn that Gwen has … “special needs.” Her own mother is afraid to touch her. Gwen, we’ll learn before the teaser ends, has scary superpowers.

Do we meet Gwen again in the present day?

We do.

And she’d be about 24 by now, right?

You’d think. And yet …

But first we learn about Cordy. Or Angel. Right?

Actually we might first catch up with Winifred Burkle and Charles Gunn, who don’t seem to scare the vampires the way they did when Angel was standing behind them. Gunn and Fred are questioning many a smug and menacing bloodsucker as they search for Marissa.

Who’s Marissa?

Vampire girl. May know something about what happened to Angel. Angel’s son Connor, of all people, leads Gunn and Fred into her crack-house lair. Connor is pretending to be worried about what happened to his pop. Marissa learns this. Marissa is not long for this world.

Is Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan still in Vegas?

He is, still working the Velvet Room. But he’s also in the “Angel” season opener, where he gets an urgent phone call from Fred.

How long has Angel been missing?

All summer.

Does he spend most of 4.1 trapped deep underwater?

He’s back on land before act three. Cables, we understand, pop loose from their moorings.

Let’s get back to superpowered Gwen. What kind of superpowers does she have?

She’s a lightning lass.

What’s she up to in 2002?

She’s a thief. In an auction house. Seeking out something called “The Axis.”

Is Hitler, Mussolini and Tojo in this episode?

The Axis turns out to be an ancient mystical relic. And it’s the only thing that can lead the gang to one Cordelia Chase.

Does Cordy appear in the season opener?

That would be telling.

Anything else?

Yeah. Don't be surprised if, at end of act two, Gwen kills one of last season's regulars.

I am – Hercules!!

One big difference between Angel and Buffy...

    by Xocxoc

is that Buffy has a tendency to resolve cliff hangers fairly quickly, while Angel tends to let them drag on while the suspense builds. Obviously, Angel will be back in episode 1, and Cordy will be back no later than ep 2. Then there is the whole Wesley plot, W&H, Jeanine, Groo, Lorne, and of course the whole twisted father and son relationship, not to mention the prophecy about Conner killing Shingen(sp?), and the possible return of Faith ... and there is a lot to be resolved!

    Regular from last season?

    by Croyd

This isn't going to be another person who we saw once or twice who then biffs it, is it? Like that demon was last season? I sure hope not. My money is on Gavin Park from W&H. He was basically worthless as a foil for Lilah...

    I see dead people

    by RogueScribner

The "regular" who dies by Act III won't be Justine, will it? Because 1) her death is a foregone conclusion and 2) she barely registers as a recurring character. And nobody would miss her. Now if Groo or Lorne or Gunn died . . . L8r

Is there more going on in Buffy than Angel

    by theshlong

i Think Angel has more going on in terms of plot situations. Buffy story is more based on the soap romance at the mo. i.e. "how will Buffy deal with Spike and the fact that he tried to rape her, will Buffy finally find a job that suits her and will she learn more about her slayer heritage, will Xander and Willow or Xander and Buffy start a romance,".

    Who Will Die

    by DanielKurland

It is obviously going to be Justine, Gavin, or Groosalugg. I can't see them killing Lilah because she is an integral part in Wesley's storyline (which should have been mentioned in this article). Lorne dieing? He is in Vegas. I doubt this new character will be in Vegas when all the action is going on in LA. I am betting it is Gavin. What was wrong with Greenwalt's writing? I think he did a great job. Him and Tim Minear wrote some of the best episodes last season and to a lesser extent Jeffrey Bell. A lot of Buffy's staff (like David Fury) wil lbe working on Angel now though, so who knows who wil lbe writing.

    by brother_seamus

why in the world would anyone want to see them kill off fred? she always makes me smile with her long winded theories and pancake kisses. plus she's so cute when that texas accent comes out every few lines. as for connor, yeah i'm pissed at him for what he did to angel, but not half as pissed as i am with justine and holtz for manipulating him the way they did (as well as making me almost feel sorry for them in those last couple of eps.)i do like vincent kartheiser (from Another Day in Paradise and Crime + Punishment in Suburbia) and would like to see him around as a regular next season. they want to kill someone, have them kill Gavin or Linwood W&H has an endless supply of evil lawyers to take their places.

    A little cryptic Herc

    by ArchDiver

You talking regular cast, or regular guest stars? Who bites it depends on whether Gwen is a white hat or black hat, and nothing in review gives a hint (thieves are not bad guys about 50% of the time.) If she kills a white hat, I'm leaning towards Gunn. If its a black hat, probably Gavin or his boss. AD out

Gwen Raiden has lightning powers ? Her last name just happens to be Raiden and she has lightning powers like Raiden from Mortal Kombat? I guess whoever wrote this episode is a fan of the Mortal Kombat series.

    by PriestYoungblood

Glad someone else shares my irritation towards Fred. I say kill her off, bring back Faith full time, and let the party begin. Hmm, let's look at the cast: ANGEL- badass vampire. CORDELIA- visions of the future, part demon. LORNE- demon with cool powers. WESLEY- former watcher, tough vampire killer. GUNN- badass vampire killer. FRED- good at math. Sorry, what was that last one? "One of these things is not like the other."

    by PriestYoungblood

Lindsey. You are correct, sir. And he was a damn good character, much better than his replacement. I liked his whole "troubled bad guy" thing. The interplay between him and Lilah was much better too. Maybe he'll come back with some fucked up Evil Dead hand and kick some shit up. But I doubt it.

  • July 12, 2002, 6:28 p.m. CST

    Right on...

    by Cap'n Chaos!

Great point about Gunn and Fred being much better seperated than apart. It's come up in conversation before and I still believe it. I've liked Fred from the beginning and she still adds to the show (the slugs episode and her pinching of Angel come to mind) but she's fallen since she got together with Gunn, another character that I liked though I always thought he was a forced fit on the show. He's been WORTHLESS since they got together except for the scene where he goes to Wesley for help. His jealousy of Wes could easily bring him back as an interesting character, but as long as Wes is gone, I don't see it happening. As for the upcoming possible death, I think it's just a false rumor thrown out by ME. HOWEVER, if it is a regular, my money is on Gunn or Fred. They obviously can't kill Angel and I know they won't kill Cordy. Wes has already been talked about by the show's people in terms of being let back into the fold eventually this season. That leaves two, and I'm hoping it's Gunn because he brings nothing to the show that Angel, and now Groo, didn't already have and did it better. He's always seemed to be there just because they wanted a 'street-wise' guy. Not saying I don't like him, I just don't see the point. Especially now that he's 'pancake-kisses sellin' my soul for a truck' guy. If it's just a recurring, then my money's on Groo because his story is more or less over with the gang. It saddens me because Lutz won me over and I think he's hilarious, but I don't think the ME team has anything else for him to do. Especially with Cordy gone for the time being.

1 possiblity and what I would like to see

    by Entilzha Proph

I remember reading on the WB site that 1 of the characters was gonna slip over to the dark side (money on Wes for that) and someone who angel loves is gonna be a big nemesis of Angel. I am gonna make a prediction now, which I really kinda hope isn't true, but if it were pulled off well, it would be incredible. My bet is they are probably gonna use Conner, BUT I see another possiblity which I am gonna place as my bet - Cordy - Yes, I know she and angel are in love, but if the crew at angel really wanted to do a gut wrencher, they'd go after Cordy. In anycase, as for the regular who gets killed off, I hope its not Groo - I'd like to see him visit Sunnydale at somepoint. And now, ladies and Gentlemen, what I really wanna see - Geller's Ass hit the mark beautifully - Faith. I would love to see Faith, back, and, a large crossover, maybe for late in this season, or next season - I can't see Angel and Cordy successfully hooking up unless there is some sort of further conclusion with Buffy, and the same with Buffy and Spike. And I would love to see Xander's face if and when he learns about Angel getting not 1 of his girls, but 2. But the big one - Stephen/Conner hooking up with (drumroll please) Dawn - ok, not a huge surprize, probably, but think about it - the key hooking up with, well, whatever Conner is (which, sure as hell, ain't normal), and ultimatly, Faith dieing and saving Dawn, and in the process, turning her into a slayer. Anyway, my thoughts and hopes.

  • Thayla? There is no Thayla. And furthermore, I do defy Herc, especially since he hasn't bothered to put up even a one-word reply. I'm sorry, but shame on you Herc, you could've had alot more fun than this. The whole "I unleash massive detailed spoilers on you so I can gloat and dance about it in every single article I put up" got old LAST SEASON. You throw all this on us months before you should and it throws off the entire summer speculation rhythm. It pisses me off because I'm a faithful reader and I'd like to at least have another month of summer speculation before you throw stuff at us that goes against already-developed spec and deepens the intrigue, it's only proper. Really, you yourself could have had ALOT more fun with this, O "wise" Coaxial Master that you are. It's your potential that I'm concerned with, should these spoilers be true. Yeah, honesty is good and all, but if you know this group, don't you think we could stand to be teased and tantalized a bit, or is this just your whole thing against Angel over Buffy? (and this is all not to mention that your recent Buffy spoilers have been much much better at being Spoilers and are very much appreciated). That's what all the WTF?! was about. As for what was actually written, personally I wish that instead of all that, W&H would be able to find Angel, and as Gavin and Linwood are on the boat retrieving him, Angel bursts through in a flash of depraved demonicness and wipes them out. It would make for a great teaser, really. As for my ranking of who's gonna go, Herc said "last season regulars": #1-Linwood... Gavin.. Fred (though I wonder if they'd really do that sort of thing to Gunn twice, first with his sister).. Justine.. Sahjhan.. I'd be extremely surprised if they went with Gunn, simply because it's so daring, though it would up the female/male ratio in a nice direction.. Connor simply won't because he's Angel's son, he's referenced as "The Destroyer" and her hasn't destroyed anything yet, and by Herc's timeline, there's no dramatic resonance since he'd be dead before Angel's out of the water.

    Glad to see

    by Wicked Willow

some info on Angel, don't get me wrong, love the Buffy stuff that's been posted but don't want Angel to be treated like the redheaded stepchild of ME. As to who will die,it may someone like Justine but may also be someone minor league. I remember Herc mentioning that a "beloved" character would die last season and it turned out to be Merle the demon snitch. And why do folks want to kill off Fred??!! Fred is sweet, smart and able to open up Gunn's softer side. Gunn is not a wuss just because he's in love with her-I'ld pick him to back me in battle anytime. Wonder how the gang will react to Higher Level Cordy!

    by Chilli Kramer

These are good spoilers, a little vague so more will become clear later. Herc says: "Cables, we understand, pop loose from their moorings. " We understand? Does that mean we're left to fill in the backstory ourselves? Will it become clearer later? We await clarification!

I just read the first season "script" pages 5,6,9-22, 37-49 and the whole ending are missing. Cant comment on Cordy because she is not even IN the part that IS posted.

as long as its not lilah i'm happy

    by kojiro

And since it won't be Lilah, I'm Happy. The cast was becoming quite bloated last season and I felt it was beginning to detract from their ability to make us feel the motivations of the characters. Also, since Buffy started its descent a bit after its cast began to bloat (and about the time its "Previously on..." segments became ridiculously long) I was getting a bit worried. Anyway, thanky for the spoilage there Herc; I only hope I forget it by the time the ep. comes around.

    please tell

    by theshlong

where did u read the script from?

  • July 16, 2002, 12:49 a.m. CST

    fake script

    by RogueScribner

I can't vouch for its authenticity, but this script was labeled as "casting sides", meaning it was sent out to casting agencies to fill minor roles. Pages would be missing because the background actors/supporting players would only need to know their lines, not the lines of everyone else in the show. This all sounds plausible enough and Herc's track record is amazing when it comes to spoilers. L8r
