Mark drops the goods on NARC

Published at:  Jun 27, 2002 7:55:45 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with a look at NARC, we've had a couple of reviews of this so far and everyone seems to love it. Can't wait to see this one for myself. Here ya go....

Hey there, Martin here. First time contibutor. I saw a screening of the
film "Narc" last night in Hollywood. Jason Patric and Ray Liotta star.
This has got to be one of the better cop movies I've seen in a while.

The Story: An undercover narcotics officer is killed, his partner (Ray
Liotta) is no longer allowed to investigate. In comes Jason Patric, he's a
narc as well, his wife wants him behind a desk and so does he. He's offered
the case and he takes it due to if he finds the murderer he gets his desk
position.

Performances: I'm not sure what rock Jason Patric crawled out from
underneath, but he was excellent as the by the book cop. One of his better
performances I've seen. (Maybe he's making up for that schlock which was
"Speed 2"). Ray Liotta is awsome as usual. He's put on a bit of weight but
he's still really good as the kind of crooked cop that will do anything for
his best friend/partner.

There's a lot of action and a lot of violence. Which is great. A great
scene of a drug addict who's wife gave him some sort of STD, and he takes a
hit to cover the pain while he's being interrogated by the cops. You'd have
to see it to see the humor.

This apparently was the first test screening of "Narc". There were a few
things they could cut back on. One too many flash backs. We got it after
the fourth time around.

Other than that this film rocks.

Later.

Martin

IS THIS BASED ON THE ARCADE/NINTENDO GAME OF THE EARLY 1990'

    To answer your question...

Probably not! Though I love the arcade for its propagandic anti-drug message endorsed by the right-wing moralist zealots, U.S. gov't, FBI, DEA and CIA. NARC arcade ROM is available online for M.A.M.E. arcade emulation. Hope the movie don't suck donkey balls like Hannibal.

    HaS aNyoNe seEn "PhOEniX"?

That is a great movie that went straight-to-video that star Ray Liotta. Seriously, if you haven't seen it, it's one to check out. One of the better neo-noirs of the past decade. Plus, a classic tidbit on "King-Kong" everyone sould hear. It is worth the price of the rental alone.

From under which rock did Jason Patric come from?

    by lostoptimist

Dude, go see "AFTER DARK, MY SWEET", "THE BEAST" and "RUSH" to find out. Don't judge the guy on on stilted crap like "SPEED 2" and/or "SLEEPERS".

    patric owns your ass...

    by tommy5tone

...actually, if you've seen his show-stopping monologue in 'your friends and neighbours' about the best fuck he ever had, that statement's probably right on the money. but he's a damn good actor (so's liotta), and i hope 'narc' gets him the props he deserves. in a perfect world, he'd be playing will graham in ratner's 'red dragon'. but in a perfect world, we wouldn't have ratner's 'red dragon'. great, now my head hurts.

Tommy, that's dead on. I heard about this movie when it was at Sundance because the director told everyone to admit his movie is better then Training Day. While that remains to be seen...I am as usual astonished that a film with Ray Liotta and Jason Patric in it is considered independent. Can we get some movies that don't have Jennifer Anistion or Christina Ricci in them to get some badly needed exposure at Sundance. Nope...which is why somebody needs to start a new film fest. Still I'll check this one out. Glad Patric is back!

    NARC rules

I loved the NES game. Although I doubt they would be able to portray a human head ten times larger than normal on a floating platform and make it seem realistic and serious. Oh and we can't forget about the tentacles too.

That video game was the greatest memory of my childhood-

    by fxninja1

my favorite part was in the second level where the evil Meth dealers threw HUGE syringes at you. and what about the evil knife-wielding clown, "Kinky Pinky!" Aaaaahhh...memories. You know, if they started making movies of old nintendo games and just threw out any notion of a coherent plot and just made wicked cool action movies i would be the happiest man EVER.

Good gad, y'all are on the same wavelength here!

    by essemtee

Man, that quarter-eating arcade game was so fly, a band called The Pixies did a cover of the theme tune. AND you get to see some kid playing the game in one of the Ninja Turtle movies. Why isn't it on any home video game consoles? Too controversial, perhaps? "You're busted!"
