STAR TREK: NEMESIS Images Appear Online From E3 Convention In LA!!

Published at:  May 23, 2002 9:39:26 AM CDT

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

Our very own El Cosmico, master of detached cool, is currently taking in the sights and sounds at E3, and I’m heading down there Friday to overdose on video games and models in skimpy outfits. Over at TrekToday, they just posted some images that they were given at E3. You’ll see the cast, looking like... well... the cast. And you’ll see the back of Shinzon’s head. Look familiar? You’ll also see what I assume are the Remans. I’m a little surprised at how alien they look, considering they are supposed to be vaguely related to the Romulans. Anyway... here’s Christian to fill you in on the details:

At TrekToday, we just posted some material from the 'Star Trek: Nemesis' electronic press kit that was handed out at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles:

CLICK HERE TO SEE ALL THE GOODIES!!

Included in the news item are four new 'Nemesis' wallpapers as well as two screenshots from the press kit CD.

Please feel free to use some of this material on your site, though we would ask that you link to the source article at TrekToday.

Sincerely,

Christian

Also, just for shits and giggles, I thought I’d pass along an e-mail I woke up to yesterday morning:

I've got a source up at the Paramount building who says that Star Trek: Nemesis is stirring up some SERIOUS Oscar buzz among the higher ups. Take that for what it's worth.

That made me laugh almost as hard as when Harry told me yesterday that he was editing Grozilla’s Cannes reports to “make his English better.”

"Moriarty" out.

THIS WILL UNDOUBTEDLY SUCK SO BAD

    by deathstalker

I happen to be a MAJOR long-time Trek fan (30yrs +!) - I've had articles on Trek published (Best Of Trek #13 among others) - even gone so far as to win Trek convention Trivia and Talent contests. So when I say this will SUCK it is with GREAT regret.

With the exception of Insurrection, EVERY TNG movie has been crap. I LOVE the TOS movies (yes, even 5), but TNG has just always been garbage. For some unfathomable reason, the producers/writers of TNG seem to feel an unnatural need to re-invent everything that is/was Trek. It has been well established that Romulus and Remus are simply sister planets - they are NOT different races. The Romulans (as every fan should know) are ancient offshoots of the Vulcans.

To get corney, it is ILLOGICAL to make the Remans SO different from the Romulans.

It's going to take some DAMN good and inventive writing to convince me otherwise - but I'll STILL hope for the best.

Right now, for me, Trek writing doesn't get any better than ENTERPRISE. THAT is a series that, at it's worst, has been as good as the original. It has all the spirit of the original (something, IMHO, that TNG >never< had). Here's hoping for a LONG life for it - mind you, I was an utter skeptic on it before the first ep - I mean, wussy Bakula as a starship captain? Damned if he didn't prove me wrong. Now it's a close run for best captain (Kirk or Archer).

I'd hire the DS9 cast and crew and tell them to go make a movie that wraps everything up. I miss the Sisko whole-heartedley. He brought joy and peace to regions of the universe that had not seen joy and peace before. He brought death to the Jem Hadar, bare-fisted bleeding knuckle death, not the "lookit me, I'm Picard, I negotiate and use a phaser and THERE ARE 4 LIGHTS" kind. Picard? Phhh. The Sisko? Indeed.

most of the star trek movies are really bad. many of the tv shows are bad too, but once in a while they made really great movies and tv shows. it was sad when it all started getting really dumb but it did. the two-hour finale show of the next generation should have been a movie instead. it was better than the movies that came out later.

Insurrection made Biodome look like Citizen Kane

    by spacesheik

INSURRECTION was a piece of shit, a galactic LOST HORIZONS with cheap sets in what is obviously California. The crew talk about sagging breats, zits, they sing Gilbert and Sullivan, they mambo. It was a New Age celluloid enema with Data being taught by kid with some small pet how to feel; it featured Data being used as a flotation device, it had F. Murray Abraham and his circus troupe in need of serious continuous plastic surgery - man I don't even wanna go on. I ain't even going into the f/x and action aspects of it, 3 minute space battles with joysticks etc. The Jerry Goldsmith score was routine as usual, the characters seem idiotic (Data: "lets lock and load!")It was terrible. And the worst thing about that shitfest was that it went against everything the Star Trek franchise stands for: the needs of the many outweight the needs of the few. Paramount was mistaken to hire Rick Berman again for NEMESIS after his glorified, made for tv movies.

    EVEN NUMBERED! YES!!

    by vanderspint

    Guys guys guys!
A new Trek movie is a truely wonderful thing.
Ok, TOS: abslutely brilliant, endlessly re-watchable.
TNG: I loved it but you just can't sit throught them again, there's something way formulaic and most of the time there's just no chemisrty between the actors bar the wonderful Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner.
DS9: best Trek ever! EVER! Serious development of characters and on-going storylines, originality in buckets, serious themes, humour, villains to root for, all this AND Major Kira? Xlnt.
Voyager: Serious mis-step, some good episodes but ultimately a chore.
Enterprise: Had my reservaions but this show is really taking off. And the first season is always the weakest so this is a really good sign. Not sure yet if I could go back and watch them all. (Certainly not that lame "Oasis" episode, a re-do of DS9's "Shadowplay") but I have them all on tape so that's a ggod sign.
So it's a real shame that there won't be DS9 movie, that would probaly rock but I'll go for another dose of TNG.
Whoever said "Insurrection" was a good movie has a seriously warped opinion, that was a weak entry in the canon, you just didn;t care what happened to thos do-good-ing hippy-dippys down on the planet.
WHAT I CANT BELIEVE no one has mentioned so far is that this is an EVEN NUMBERED entry, this is the tenth film. I thought everyone knew the odd numbers were the worst Trek films, think about it if you haven't. (Which, of course as fans, we all have- why is that? Do they go through an over-confidence, wow-we-fucked-up-lets-work-hard cycle kindof thing?) So although when it comes to the odd numbered films we all hope aginst hope it'll be good and try and say superstition is silly now that we're due an entry divvisible by two, we can all rest assured this will kick some serious ass!
I only hope it can get some cross-over appeal (Maybe the Buffy monster will re-assure sceptics they'll enjoy it) or this probably will be the last one in the series.
    Long live the Trek.
    I.D.I.C.

Star Trek movies are just disappointing. They always have too much comedy thrown in.It all becomes ridiculous.A little comedy in an hour long episode is good, but they put in 90 minutes of jokes.Insurrection was terrible!Terrible!Even First Contact showed commercials of lots of shooting, but when you see the movie it is a one minute battle at best(the starship battle). The acting becomes worse. The Troi drunk scene. The Picard Mambo.I think the worst scene ever was Uhura dancing naked in Star Trek V.Who the hell thought of that? The crew looks tired and worn out in the shot with the full cast for Nemesis. The Remans-Didn't Blade kill these guys in blade 2?Berman and Braga are total fucking idiots! When will they get some new creative blood into the franchise? They are ass reaming the whole thing!

    by noriko takaya

And certainly better then "INSURRECTION," which was flat-out asslicious. And. . .*Remus?* Remens? Uuhh, O.K. Until this "movie" I had never heard of any Remens; from all the episodes I'd seen and novels that I have read the Romulans were offshoots of the Vulcans who long ago fled to another star system; the sun was called "Remus" and the main planet "Romulus." Depending on which version you hear that is; another version has it that their system was a double-star, "Romulus" and "Remus." In any case the point is there *was* no seperate race of Vulcanoids called Remens. But--well, screw it. Who cares anymore, y'know? I'm not gonna see it anyway so Berman and Co. can just knock themselves out. Toppu o Nerae!

    by madolan

This will be as magnificent a Trek outing as ever. TNG was always the best series bar none, as ANY pedestrian, non-scifi fan, or poll will tell you. The episodes were meaningful, reflective, edifying, and dramatic. Trek gets no better than this. I've loved every TNG movie to date, and for those of us (there are many!) who love it for its "Space Opera" content, we're going to weep happy tears at the opening wedding scene. I've adored Troi since I saw her and this is going to be the culmination of 12 years of worshipful fandom. Makebelieve you're with your geekgrrl girlfriend and pretend to enjoy the wedding. Got it? It makes you that much more attractive to the other gender. I don't trust Braga or Berman, but I'm still willing to call upon my sense of wonder and marvel at the goodness that is TNG. MARINA SIRTIS RULES YOUR PASTY ASSES, FANBOYS. And until a Farscape movie misses as widely as ST: Generations and I can say "told you so," hold your trendy doubts and enjoy what we've got.

This film will be complete and utter poo. It is unnecessary. It is stupid. Did anyone ask for another Trek film after that F. Murray Abraham-soaked diarrheafest called Insurrection? For Berman, Braga and Paramount, it's all about the cash. They should realize that they're not going to make a lot of money on this. If it breaks even, I'll be surprised. I'll go see it and make fun of it the whole time and it will be sooo easy. Maybe they'll have more showtunes. Unless this comes out at the same time as Two Towers, in which case I may never see Nemesis. So sad.

In case you don't know who Shinzon is, this post is a spoiler so you've been warned.************************* ************************ *************************** ************************** ************************ Still here? Okay, Shinzon is a clone of Picard. Now, why would a younger version of Picard be bald, just because the older one is? A younger Picard would have hair. Obviously, Shinzon waxes his head for the fun of it. Also, If they eventually do another Trek TV show (after the crappy Enterprise finishes), they could use the guy who plays Shinzon to play a young Picard, on the Stargazer or something.

if you really want to help, here's how...

    by frank cotton

the steady output of garbage sold as entertainment by hollywood is a recurrent theme here at AICN, and justifiably so. 9 out of every 10 films released are an absolute waste of perfectly good money. but why just complain about it, when there is now an opportunity for you, yes you, to make a difference? what can i do, you ask...well, if you are really serious about wanting to see better quality films, and have had enough of watching those dream projects being flushed down the toilet, there is only one answer - HELP LORD GARTH GET INTO THE BUSINESS! that's right folks, it's that easy. lord garth will personally guarantee that if you do this, there will be more sci-fi, horror, and action films than you can shake a stick at! quality films, one and all, none of that PC bullshit (red planet, etc.), and absolutely, positively, NO CHICK FLICKS! and as an added bonus, he will, once he's established himself, and has the bank, make WILD, WILD WEST, the way it should have been the first time! just what can i do, you ask? lord garth knows that a lot of people in the 'biz' stop in here, and what lord garth needs most of all is CONTACTS. phone numbers, face time, leads, they're all good. lord garth also needs a lot of free time, so he can get the hang of this LIGHTWAVE stuff, and the 9 to 5 life doesn't leave him a lot, so he is more than happy to accept CASH DONATIONS. and no, HE IS NOT KIDDING! it's either help lord garth, or resign yourself to mediocrity. the choice is yours. QUOTE OF THE DAY: anyone who does not have 16 hours a day to do as they please is a slave (from memory, may not be exact). if the BORG aren't in it, there's no point.

    by z0d

Wow, a Star Trek movie with Romulans! Actually, it does make sense when they name the Remans the way they do because they live on Romulus' sister planet. So, planet Remus is the name of the planet, and the Remans are those who live there. I guess those Remans do look a little like demons, but come on...we gotta have some alien species with shock value!--------->It's too bad there are a lot of idiots here who shit on films for no good reason at all. First of all they go see a movie, whether it be Star Wars or Star Trek, Blade or Spiderman. Then they say nonsensecal shit about them. They then go and see the sequel/prequel and say shit about that too. The fact of the matter is that many of you continue to spend your money and time on these things, and then you still barf shit up about them. What gives? You go see the damn thing, buy the DVDs, and rant on these message boards for what purpose? To talk about your insignifacant desires of what you want to see in a film? To complain about how empty your life really is? Go ahead, let me see you make a movie! You people make me sick because you are all a bunch of crybabies. If I were to think badly of a film, I would just say: "Awe, what a mediocre film. Bring on the next movie and try to make it better!" I don't spew bullshit just to attract attention. Rather, I point out the good and try to offer suggestions on how to improve the bad. ___---KNEEL---___

The One Good TNG movie and Q

    by zsmooth

Just doing this makes me feel icky, so I'll be quick.

Not a single damn Trek movie has yet to touch "Wrath of Khan" and "Search for Spock" (really, both movies play as two chapters of one story). Sorry, but that's the fact. Shatner acted, and acted well... for the first time in his life, he underplayed key scenes and turned in a magnificent performance.

That said... "First Contact" was really a good flick. The best of the Nex gen bunch.

Finally... I will never get excited for a Trek movie again until they finally make one involving Q. I miss the omnipotent bastard... him and Picard have more chemistry going than anyone else on that ship. They play off each other so beautifully... come on, imagine two hours of Q and Picard bantering at each other. Honestly, wouldn't that be a hoot?

Jesus, I just gained 50 pounds and gained about 6 inches of more forehead... GAH... I have a goatee now!! GAH!! A PONYTAIL!!! WORST.... TALKBACK POST.... EVER!!!

  • EPISODE 1 left a bad taste in people's mouths, it was infantile, badly plotted and acted Star Wars fiasco about two Jedis looking for spare parts for their ship in Tattoine. By the time AOTC came on, fixing many of the mistakes of the original (anteing up the action, almost eliminating Jar Jar etc) audiences were prepared to give it another chance. But the problem with STAR TREK is they didn't have just ONE episode 1, they had like THREE of them! GENERATIONS, FIRST CONTACT and the nail in the coffin shitfest INSURECTION - and that is why NEMESIS is too little too late - Rick Berman already fucked the movie franchise, I have no problem with his DS9, VOYAGER or ENTERPRISE, altho im tired of the technobable, he is suited to television, not films. He does not have a concept of how to make a film LOOK or SOUND like a film - his movies are made for tv movies with cheap sets, even his composers are held back from bombastic rousing scores (ask Jerry Goldsmith), and his cinematographers do not fucking know how to UTILIZE THE WIDESCREEN; the special effects are few and far between, the action is sparse, the comedy is lame and at times even offensive to Trekkers. EPISODE 1 and 2 have too much eye candy and they both cost 110 million or so - every frame is filled with action special effects. For 80 million dollars on INSURRECTION we got cheap New Age sets on a California forest and 2 or 3 minutes or nebula space battles. The previews for INSURRECTION went so bad, audiences were complaining of lack of action, the producers had to insert a fx shot of the Enterprise in the end firing a shot at the space station. It was a sorry assed affair that movie. I saw it in a half empty theatre on OPENING NIGHT at the Cineplex Odeon Wisconsin Ave in DC - some people walked out, the ones who stayed left in silence - not ONE sorry son of a bitch laughed at any of Rick Berman's shit (Picard doing the mambo, Worf getting a zit, Worf singing, Data turning into a flotation device etc etc. Now I know Paramount hass attempted to give the new film a fresh look (new director, new cinematographer, new scribe) but the script that was leaked was very weak and seemed like a cut and paste job (genesis like device, major character dying, etc. Only a balls out action film with lotsa special effects, including space battles LONGER than 35 seconds, snappy editing and a rousing score MIGHT salveage this rotten bill of goods that the Star Trek movie franchise has become. AICN is for geeks, most of the geeks here are into sci fi, Star Wars and Star Trek, etc - when a post about a new Star Trek movie doesnt get ONE positive comment from a fanboy on Talkback - id be very worried if I was Paramount.

The way to fix Trek is so simple...

    by brattain

All Paramount has to do is fire Berman and Braga and rehire Ron D. Moore, Ira Behr, and Robert Wolfe to handle things. Paramount is approaching this all wrong. They have other options. For example, a DS9 telefilm or miniseries would do great numbers on CBS (people DO tune in for Trek TV events, not for the series). Then, all they have to do is put out that telefilm on DVD with never before seen effects footage and commentary and it will do very well. The SF channel did great with "Dune". There is a market for this. If they did a DS9 movie, all they need to do is hire a high profile actor like Tom Hanks to compliment the crew and it will get the publicity and attention it needs to break the 75 million barrier. Those are just examples, but Paramount needs to be thinking outside the box. After 16 years, I just don't see Berman coming up with anything inventive and Braga NEVER had talent. He won't leave Trek because he knows he couldn't get work anywhere else. ENT will never go 7 seasons with those two in charge.

    I read the script (spoilers)

    by jack burton

it's typical star trek crap.It has a couple decent actions scenes (including one fairly cool scene involving Picard flying a fighter style ship through the Scimitar) but overall it sucks. It's trying hard to be Wrath of Kahn and has a few scenes i hope were intended to be jokes (tell me the dune buggy scene was cut please).
i'm not a big Trek fan, but I have a passing interest. It's not as bad as Insurrection or Generations, but it still sucks.

For the record, THE WRATH OF KHAN wasn't the original title

    by kingkrypton

When Nicholas Meyer was rewriting the script (the shooting script is his, Jack Sowards was given the screen credit on a technicality), he entitled the film THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY--as a tie-in to Hamlet's contemplating death and linking it to Spock's demise. But Paramount wanted a punchier title, so they proffered THE VENGEANCE OF KHAN...which was soon adjusted to WRATH in light of RETURN OF THE JEDI's working title being REVENGE OF THE JEDI. That said, NEMESIS is still a weak title.

    unrelated x-men sequel spoiler

    by priestmolester

i got this from kamasutra101 (a little known, yet HIGHLY reliable source); the x-men 2 storyline will focus entirely on the legacy virus (no secret there), but here is the surprise ending : after the climatic final battle, everyone seems to think that the worst is over, but suddenly a SWARM of hundreds of SENTINELS (i saw an early CGI pic, they f'ing RULE!!!) come down from the heavens above and land straight in front of the x-men. final shot (leading inevitably to x-men 3)!
i don't know about you, but i feel like camping out in a tent in front of a movie theater right now.

this movie will make up in sheer entertainment what it lacks in

    by priestmolester

first contact was the best sci-fi film of 1996, not to mention the best star trek film ever (in my humble opinion, anyway) for the same reason. i'm looking foward to nemesis as much as i'm anticipating the matrix sequels, period.

Nostalgia Purgatory: A Defense of The Next Generation

    by voice o. reason

I love TOS. And I love "The Next Generation". Why? Because those of us born after the 60's aren't stuck in nostalgia-Purgatory, and can embrace TNG as an EQUAL to the original series. Captain Picard and Data are great characters, portrayed by great actors. They are NOT Kirk and Spock, but their own characters. TNG didn't have the same restrictions put on it that TOS did, so it could be more ambitious. TOS broke a lot of ground, but TNG started from that very same ground, and went a little further with it. You'll also notice that TNN reruns the hell out of TNG whenever it can. Surely they wouldn't be doing this if TNG was unpopular or unwatchable. I will see STAR TREK: NEMESIS on its OPENING DAY because TNG is one of my all time favorite TV shows. If its bad, I'll say so. If its good, I'll say so. The important thing to remember is that I'll wait to judge it UNTIL I'VE SEEN IT.

    by priestmolester

you have your "reliable" sources, i have mine. what makes you think that you're right, and that i (not to mention the countless others whom have claimed to know the plot to x-men 2) am wrong? and what the hell is a bint?

ah, shit... maddmaxxking was probably right.

    by priestmolester

i should have verified my e-mail this morning. kamasutra101 sent me a message beginning: "if i'm right 95% of the time, then i have to be wrong 5% of the time...". apparently the x-men 2 screenplay he read was an early one by either david hayter or zak penn, and the cgi sentinel was nothing more than something some morons at digital domain did to pass time. now that dan harris and michael dougherty have taken over as writers for the sequel, the storyline merely involves the juggernaut and some other insignificant bullshit. anyway, sorry man, disregard the previous comment. next time i'll wait until the information has been confirmed before posting it. my bad.
