Father Geek here with our guy in Rome, Robert, and all the other Euro-crew members. Well, Grozilla sent in Soooooooo much CANNES info that we've pulled it to give him his own mega column covering several days at that wonderful fest on the sea shore in the south of France. Now here's Bernocchi & Company, and...

The AICN-Euro Column...

Hi people. It seems that everyone à la Croisette is looking forward to seeing Gaspar Noè's latest flick IRREVERSIBLE, starring Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel, mostly due to the announced 9-minute rape scene, which, as the director said, will make you forget A Clockwork Orange. Thus, considering that no one has seen the movie, maybe you should be interested in pictures of the movie, So, let's go here:

to see a few Interesting Images (BEWARE, there are a few R rated ones and the last 4 are NOT actually part of the movie). And if you want see more pics from titles debuting in Cannes, such as Spider and About Schmidt, let's click here: to see SPIDER shots and here: to catch some ABOUT SCHMIDT pics (I'm not sure they are new to you, but I haven't seen them before).

Now, let's start the column with... As usual, Ratbert with his Brit news report...

Hey all, Ratbert here again with the latest tittle-tattle from Britannia. This week: an exciting new project from Tom Stoppard (NOT Indy 4), Ryan Phillippe hits Blighty, an Episode II cock up in Scotland and Mr Bean gets to grips with a supermodel.

British playwright Tom Stoppard is currently being chased for two big projects. A week or so ago, Stoppard was being courted as scriptwriter for the fourth outing in the Indiana Jones series. Then came the news that he was going to be too busy to take up the Indiana position. The reason for that became clear as New Line Cinema revealed it was in negotiations with Stoppard to take the HIS DARK MATERIALS trilogy by Philip Pullman to the big screen.

Fans of Pullman, whose books have struck a chord with children and adults alike, will be delighted at the news, which puts the trilogy as the next big thing for New Line following their fabulously successful adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. Initial reports suggest that the trilogy will be slimmed down to form two movies - although that won't be confirmed until Stoppard begins work this summer on his adaptation of the three books; The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. The trilogy features a universe in which multiple versions of Earth exist, daemons are the embodiment of the human spirit and angels aren't always on the side of all that is good and right.

Ryan Phillippe will begin filming the new movie The I Inside in the UK next month.

The Gosford Park star plays a man who has the ability to travel through time in the paranormal thriller. His character's gift enables him to revisit the past and solve his brother's murder. Shooting will begin on June 10. Phillippe is also reported to be in talks to join the cast of The Exorcist prequel

Newly-unearthed colour footage of Charlie Chaplin has been screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

The previously unseen film features out-takes and home movies, and includes colour footage shot backstage on his 1940 movie The Great Dictator. The colour material will be released next spring on DVD, along with 18 of Chaplin's films, including The Kid and Gold Rush. Chaplin's daughter Geraldine, 57, saw the film for the first time in Cannes yesterday. She told the BBC her family had fought over how to preserve her father's films.

"I am one of eight children and we were fighting between ourselves - it was a disaster," she said. "Then we were given the chance to bring them out on DVD - and we all agreed. He was always worried he wouldn't be remembered."

The DVDs of Chaplin's films, plus documentaries and the unseen gems, will be distributed by Warner Home Video and MK2.

Police were called to a Star Wars premiere after scenes were screened in the wrong order.

Audiences had been watching the special midnight screening in Glasgow for 45 minutes when it suddenly jumped to the final battle scene. The Daily Record says cinema bosses at the Springfield Quay Odeon called police when fans confronted foyer staff about the problem. One fan, Brian Queen, told the paper: "I thought for a second I must have fallen asleep and missed part of it. The film jumped to the battle scene. The majority of the audience ended up out of their seats and in the foyer trying to confront the manager about the problem." A spokesman for Odeon said: "We apologise for the inconvenience to fans. Customers were given a full refund and tickets to another Star Wars screening." About 250 people, some in fancy dress, had queued up to attend the special midnight screening. Victoria Greenless, of Glasgow, said: "Everyone hung around expecting the cinema to start the film again. This didn't happen and we were just told to come back another day. Someone told me the staff hadn't checked the reels. They presumed they were in the right order."

Heidi Klum has joined the cast of Rowan Atkinson's spoof spy movie Johnny English.

The German supermodel will play Atkinson's girlfriend in the spin-off from the Barclaycard advertisements. It will be her acting debut though she appeared as herself in Ben Stiller's comedy Zoolander. She said: "It was great fun and Rowan is a very funny man."

Nick tells us about a very special screening of SW2 in London

Hey people, Ironically, the last time i posted a story that was used on your site was when i announced Christopher Lee had signed up to star in Episode 2! Anyway, I went to the first showing this morning at the Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square, London. This is the most famous cinema in Britain and is where 99% of movie premieres are held in the UK. It was also, i believe the first cinema to show Episode 2 in Digital. The reason why i am writing to you though is because as it was the first paying audience, the film was introduced by non other by Antony Daniels! C3PO was not announced to be at the screening and was a pleasant surprise to the nearly sold out crowd! He talked to the audience for a good 5 minutes and thanked us for watching the Star Wars series of films and paying his wages all these years! He seemed very pleased to have had the opportunity to address the fans, and was a genuinely funny guy! The audience for the film was amazing, with us all cheering, laughing and applauding at the same moments. At the end of the screening there was a standing ovation and i think nearly all the people who left the cinema, enjoyed what they saw. I know me, my Dad and my younger brother all felt that magic again!

ShowbizIreland (http://www.showbizireland.com/) has exclusive information about Alison Doody

Due to popular demand we have tracked down the Irish actress Alison Doody, star of such movies as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and the Bond movie, A View to a Kill.

The actress left Hollywood to return to Ireland in 1994 after her last movie Major League 2 with Charlie Sheen to get married to the Irish media tycoon Gavin O'Reilly.

Since then the couple have had two children and Alison has not stepped into a movie costume right up to this year. Recently she was asked to do a small cameo part in the Michael Caine film The Actors in Dublin where she lives.

In this she played herself in an award ceremony and here she regained a lust for the movie industry once more. "I was asked to a small role in The Actors and it was here that I realized how much I missed the movie industry. I miss the people I used to work with likes of Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson so I must admit I would love to get into making a few more movies again now that my children are in school. I was not retired in fact I even looked at going for a role in Lord of the Rings but being in New Zealand for 18 months but me off the idea."

She went on, "the script and part was right for a return in The Actors so I did it and now if the right script came along I would love to go back into the industry again. I am still represented by the Hubbards casting agents so I can say safely that if the right role came along I would definitely consider it."
