One Year Left For BUFFY''

Published at: May 8, 2002, 11:46 p.m. CST

I am – Hercules!!

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” ends for good after season seven, according to last Thursday’s edition of Australia’s Courier-Mail.

In the United States, the series’s sixth season concludes in 12 days.

“When Buffy's cast and crew reconvene to shoot the seventh season in July, they will be doing so for the last time,” wrote Courier-Mail reporter Neala Johnson. “After season seven, Buffy will not be coming back from the dead.”

Johnson’s report appears to be based in part on a comment made by “Buffy” regular Nicholas Brendon at a local sci-fi convention.

"It sucks, because with how this year ended, and with what's gonna happen next year, it's gonna go out on top," said Brendon.

    Smallville?

    by Domi'sInnerChild

You obviously mistook "one year left" as refering to Smallville, easy mistake.

  • May 8, 2002, 11:55 p.m. CST

    Fine with me.

    by Christopher3

There's only so much more they can do with this show. Also, no one can pass for the age of their character anymore. Now what's this about Charisma Carpenter maybe leaving "Angel"? Once she's gone, there won't be more than a thimbleful of booty on that show, unless they bring back Kate.

  • May 9, 2002, 12:11 a.m. CST

Amy Acker as Fred isn't bootyful enough for you?

    by PoshKittyKat

    'Smallville' sucks donkey appendage.

    You're surprised?

    by BurninBullwinkle

I thought this had been the plan for quite awhile now. I am interested in whether they will do another spin-off eventually. Personally, I think a Faith spin-off would be incredible if it was done right. Bring Wesley back as her watcher (now toughened by his experiences on Angel) maybe throw in a couple other characters that aren't dead after the series ends... Maybe Xander as her "Q" since he built Buffy's danger room and, much as I hate to admit it, it's gonna be Nick Brendon's signature role. (With so much talent on both series, he's kind of gotten forgotten about by Hollywood compared to the rest of the performers.) Spike would be a fit, but I think he may be dust by the end of the series. How 'bout it? What (if any) future spin-offs from Buffy or Angel would you like to see in the future and what characters would be carried over to them?

  • May 9, 2002, 12:33 a.m. CST

    Better to go on top

    by Obsidian72

If this is true, I'm glad to see it. Buffy is my favorite show, but I used to say the same thing about the X-Files and I've completely stopped watching that show. Better to go out while the shows are still entertaining. I don't think this year has been as bad as most think. Yes, it is weaker compared to previous seasons, but it is still better than most of what is on the tube. Oh, and about the post mentioning a Faith spin-off, forget it. Good idea, but Eliza Dushku isn't interested in returning the small screen. She's too busy taking small parts in bad teen movies to play Faith. The folks behind Angel and Buffy have already mentioned they would like to have Faith back, if just to kill her off, but Dushku isn't available.

  • May 9, 2002, 12:55 a.m. CST

I thought that was always the case.

    by Rain_Dog

Yes indeedy I did. It's probably time anyway. Not that I don't love Buffy, but they're all getting a little long in the tooth now, and I doubt SMG would sign on for another series.

  • May 9, 2002, 1:09 a.m. CST

Well, I'm doing the "perfect world" thing...

    by BurninBullwinkle

I know Dushku is too busy right now. It's a shame because Faith has been by far her best role and as much as I hate to say it, Bring It On is the only one of her movies so far that I've enjoyed. You'd think the chance to be THE star of a TV show would make her re-think all her shitty movie roles. But it's her life. It certainly would be the best possible spin-off, in my opinion. Admittedly though, turning Ripper into an extended series (i.e. not the usual 6-episode BBC deal) that could explore the inner workings of the Watcher's Council would be fascinating.

    About these supposed movies...

    by DarkZero

Joss Whedon HATES making movies. He absolutely, 100% HATES it. He's said repeatedly that all of his experiences with making movies have been absolutely horrible, especially the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. If you honestly think that Joss and company have any aspirations of moving from the TV series to a set of movies, then I doubt that you've heard him speak on the subject. Whenever any bit of the movie making process for any of the movies that he has worked on has come up in interviews, he's gone into long, bitter, hate filled rants against the current process behind the majority of mainstream films. For Joss, going from making movies to making a TV show was a huge step up, not a step down. He's very happy where he is and I doubt he has any plans to go back, especially with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. ---- Also, whenever a TV show goes from the small screen to the big screen, the fans inevitably get the shaft in favor of the ignorant mainstream audience that has never even seen the show before, despite the fact that those movies hardly ever attract ANY of that audience, even if they tailor the entire story to them. Why do sci-fi fans keep wanting to see movie versions of their favorite shows when they've been burned almost every time they've gotten their wish in the past?

  • .....It's probably good for a show to end at six or seven years, because then it will go out with a bang and not a whimper (like X-Files).

  • May 9, 2002, 3:03 a.m. CST

I want to see a BUFFY movie... a good one!!!

    by Psyclops

That's the only way I can live with the Slayer's departue, a final big screen installment!!! C'mon Joss, give us another movie. Anyone else think this is a good idea?

  • May 9, 2002, 3:08 a.m. CST

    Thank God for that.

    by Astral Weeks

Season 6 has been a blot on the legacy of Buffy. Misery, pain, boredom and bad soap opera have been the trade marks of this season. I doubt if they can salvage the show next season.

  • --and i can't believe i'm the only one expressing regret (i've been ripping on this show all season). there's a reason why most long-lived shows go the way of x-files. a new generation of writers (or even long-time writers out of ideas) have to come up with new ways to explore the characters, leading to circumstances that seemed more and more forced and conspicuous. how many episodes this season put the group into situations that only seemed to exist for the sake of character "development"? sometimes this works (hush, omwf) but often it's a transparent device that leaves the characters looking "off the shelf" and that much less unique. sure every show has to end and it's better to let a show die with dignity. but just because this season has mostly sucked, doesn't mean it couldn't turn around and have many more well-written seasons ahead of it. how many seasons was m*a*s*h on the air? or cheers? if there are still (good) stories to tell, i'd love to see them. deep 13 out. push the button, frank.

It's time for Buffy to depart the airwaves. It's tired. Predictable. And as for a Faith spin-off -- won't happen. Eliza Dushku is a big drunk, which is why Joss stopped working with her in the first place.

I myself never jumped on the season six hatorade bandwagon (I'm close in age to the characters and can relate to the aimlessness and doubt they're going thru). but having an end in sight is really the best way to do a tv show. it tends to give things more meaning and focus. plus next season they'll have to use many of the great ideas they haven't yet had a chance to explore. and when it's gone I'll just be watching tv less which isn't such a bad thing after all. buffy will be missed. whatever happened to the animated series?

    by Faith's Favorite

The Buffy universe is complex and developed enough to easily carry on for more than one more season. I've really enjoyed this season and I am going to be very disappointed if this rumor proves true. I think you guys underestimate the hole in your lives that will be created if Buffy ends. Easy to talk tough now, but it's going to suck when you don't have Buffy to kick around anymore.

  • May 9, 2002, 10:28 a.m. CST

    Further

    by Faith's Favorite

For all of you pinning your hopes on living with just Angel, you better be prepared for disappointment. Angel's ratings have not been stellar and the rumor is that the WB didn't cancel it this year only because they didn't want to give UPN and Whedon the satisfaction of getting both shows on the same network. Buffy goes, Angel better step up in ratings or we're all out of Buffyverse.

Let's play this game again: Things I would like to see by th

    by Chilli Kramer

In season 7: Spike coming back human.... but then being vamped the moment he sets foot in sunnydale! Hahaha! Sick, but fun. Faith making a guest appearance. Buffy / Xander finally happening,(at least for a night!). Willow being the most incredibly dastardly fiend in the show's history. A Bruce Campbell cameo as Xander's uncle in an episode featuring zombies (if he called dark Willow 'she bitch', so much the better). Related to the Bruce thing, I'd like to see more fun eps, with less angst. And in the season finale or a movie, whichever comes last: The Hellmouth opening, with Buffy and a ressurected army of slayers (or whoever else comes to hand )taking on everything that pokes a head or a tentacle out of it. And winning in incredibly bloody fashion, but with a non powered Scoob playing an important part. Anyone else have a wish list - not necessarily one you think will happen, just stuff you'd like. (Oh, and I'd ask Future Chilli what happens, but if he told me the future... he'd change it.)

  • May 9, 2002, 11:37 a.m. CST

One good thing to come from this...

    by Gudlyf

...is the opportunity to see more Buffy characters on Angel again. No more "network conflicts". Also, I have to agree with the Angel-not-aging issue someone brought up. They will soon need to address that. The only way I can imagine them "fixing" that would be to fast-forward the series into the future (Fray time period?), giving him a whole new supporting cast -- Angel never aged, but the friends are long dead. That would at least carry the show a few more seasons. Speaking of Fray, someone once brought up how, in one issue, they strongly suggest that Buffy will be responsible for the elimination of vampires/demons/etc. from the Earth for a LONG time. They don't explain HOW she does it, but they have one cell showing some kind of blinding-light explosion, and that's about it. I'd LOVE to see Buffy end with that kind of bang, although that would also mean Angel would have to end, since demons would be no more. THIS is where a Buffy movie would come in -- after Angel was done. Ideally Angel will be around for one more season, then we see a Buffy-verse movie with the Fray tie-in. Then maybe Eliza D. will consider making an appearance for once.

    by Sylvia Simon

Okay, so I figured that Buffy would end when SMG's contract was up. But it still sucks. Well, I'd rather they go out on top. I'd love to see the last ep of season 7 end with Willow, now a watcher (and "clean"), seeking out the new slayer. "You don't know me, but I've got something to tell you...." Fade to black.

    Back to the Future

    by lycanthrope

I loved the Buff and all her pals, but I do think the high school years (and the big bad of Angel/Spike/Dru) were the best - Buffy sneaking out of the house to save the world, still trying to get dates and a manicure - Giles - do we miss him? Dear Lord, yes! So - I think they should pull a Felicity and have a HUGE apocalypse result in a "reset" with new actors (maybe Dawn becomes Buffy) - new characters (except Giles), same high school, even rougher Hellmouth... Think about it.

I know Buffy is your favorite show, and I know that it is sad to see it go...hell, I'll probably be a blubbering idiot when Farscape eventually ends its run (years from now, I hope). Like most TBers are saying, though...it is better for the show to go out on top rather than drag on and on and on into irrelevance and stupidity...kinda like X-Files did.

I'd like the last ever scene (and last line) to be....

    by Chilli Kramer

In an ep where Dark Willow loses her magic powers - but turns herself into a vamp somehow, to remain evil! She then goes to the school, where a late class is coming out. She attacks them, but Buffy kills her. Schoolkids: "Who are you?" Buffy: "I'm Buffy. The Vampire Slayer." turns away, walks off with emotionless face. How's that for a downbeat end! I'd maybe want a lighter end actually, but I'd love to see that last line.

You are right about Joss and Hollyfool and I'm sure he thinks the comics and Firefly and Angel will keep him busy, but I'm also sure he fantasizes about getting total control and just enough cash to do Buffy right on the big screen. There must be some studio sharpie sharp enough to see that the show's built-in following gives you most of what you need to get a nice return on a modest investment. No, you don't try to make a Buffy summer blockbuster, just a fun popcorn movie that doesn't violate the franchise. If Joss has any interest, though, he can't dawdle. Interest will die off quick.

  • May 9, 2002, 1:53 p.m. CST

    by Bramton1

Hey Ligerbomb27, I'd hug you but you're too far away and people would probably perceive it as gay ("Not that theres anything wrong with that."). Also, to the person who commented on Angel's less-than-stellar ratings, the WB basically ensured that when they stuck it behind 7th Heaven. It would work better on the same night as Smallville (it would make sense with Charmed, although that would probably put it head-to-head with Survivor and Friends, bad idea).

    by supershauna

I am one of the biggest Buffy fans out here, but I would love to see Joss develop a different show entirely. I love these characters but it's getting increasingly difficult to come up with interesting plot twists. (and how is Willow supporting herself? I think of that every episode lately) I was sad when Xena went off and I'll be sad when Buffy goes, but I'll be excited to what Joss has in store for us next on TV. My dream ending would be some hellmouth uberbattle with lots of stong women helping to save the world. Joan of Arc, Xena, Witchblade, Wonder Woman, Boudicca, etc. fighting the male destructive power to save Mother Earth. lesbians everywhere would cheer.

Wasn't this the plan all along?

    by 2GOLD

Maybe I'm mistaken but didn't ME say that next year was the last season when they signed with UPN? I thought Joss made it clear that Season 7 was the end. But why does Angel have to end at the same time? I think Angel could go one or two more seasons after that before closing up shop. ***And to those who saw on the last board, I'm sorry for my outburst since it really had nothing to do with the show in general. I was angry at someone and when I get angry I write angry to expel the anger...I do not nor have I ever thought the characters on Buffy were cookie cutter nor do I think the series is worthless. 2GOLD truly is sorry for his actions and is looking forward to more calm discussion about this show in the future. Boy, that was hard...*** My wishes for next year: Spike with a soul (not human, William is cowardly lion, but with a soul minus that whole love will cost you it crap), Willow to end as the big evil, An evil dead Slayer [not like first slayer, different, like a vamped slayer!], and a HAPPY ENDING FOR ONCE. As for movies...no, because ME would not really have complete control over it and it would get screwed up by the studio heads kind of like "Scooby Doo".

  • May 9, 2002, 2:55 p.m. CST

    Still Skeptical

    by Faith's Favorite

I'm sorry, but I think Buffy will continue past season 7. UPN did not commit that kind of an investment for just a 2 yr. return. There will be too much pressure on ME to let them quit, even if they wanted to. Maybe I'm deluding myself because I don't want it to end, but I just don't see it happening next year.

ANSWERS TO EVERYONE'S QUESTIONS! **SPOILERS FOR ATS and BTV

    by fluffypancakes

SPOILER WARNING -- look away from the light if you want to remain non-spoiled 1.) Season 7 is not necessarily the last of BTVS, highly possible, but maybe not. Even Joss himself said that when they write the end of each season, it's THE END. Meaning the end of an arc, if the s7 arc happens to be the end of the series so be it, I ain't the biggest fan of s6 so I wouldn't care much. Nicky Brendon doesn't run the show over there, Joss does. It pretty much ends when Joss says it does or SMG wants the funk out. 2.) If Buffy indeed ends next year and ends with the big apocalypse battle to end all battles (in which the mighty slayer banishes all magicks from this earth and all demons -- referred to in Fray I believe), part of that prophecy is Angel participating and recieving his soul as his just reward. So I think if Buffy were to end it would end with perhaps Buffy being a normal girl and the Watcher's Council calling another slayer; they could leave it open ended for a movie or a special crossover TV movie or something. So yeah, if BTVS ended with the "big bad serious we are not messing around" apocalypse, then yeah it would be the end of ATS. 3.) Charisma Carpenter is NOT going anywhere. If you've been watching lately, Cordy is now part demon and at the end of this season, she recieves a message that she is not meant to be in this world anymore. Methinks this means she's going off to demon school with TPTB. I think at most, realistically, the furthest BTVS would go is a season 8. Like someone mentioned earlier, UPN wouldn't fight that hard just for a 2 year return on their investment -- mucho pressure on ME to keep the Buffy train going. I think it really depends on the willingness of the actors to continue, without SMG there is no Buffy, so who knows? As far as this SDK mess is concerned, I can see why the Kittens are upset, I am a big W/T fan, I used to hate Tara and now that I have really grown to like her, she's gone. I was really upset, but it's part of the storyline, that's all -- a crappy storyline that I hate, but I am just the viewer and I am holding out hope for something better at the end of the season. I think maybe Tara will be back, I don't know how yet, but I am hoping. I think the whole anti-gay message of the story is just sort of a side-effect, not really intentional but it's there and staring you in the face anyway. Or perhaps Moonves is pulling the strings. SDK is just doing his job, Joss decided from the end of last season that Tara was going to die, when you're one of his writers and he tells you how the story goes, you just write it. Don't shoot the messenger, you know?

This isn't a surprise and it's very very good.

    by Thalya

Um, how many here have forgotten their speculations from even before this season began that Season 7 would be the last? 7 is the best Epic number there is. That's why Restless was where it was, Season 4 being the climax season (though anticlimatic in its own way as some would say). Restless was the turning point since in BvD, Buffy was fundamentally changed, and not just because of Dawn. By what she said there and in FFL, she wanted to be a better Slayer, one who would last. Seasons 5 & 6 have been part of the falling action now, 6 very explicitly dealing with Restless issues. And furthermore, those lamenting the soap opera dynamics of this season, ever since S3 we've began to see that most demons weren't acting as free agents but as summoned and controlled by humans. The problem is, until now everyone's been in the mindset where the humans got off scot-free (Tucker from The Prom, anyone?) for their involvement. It was only the demons getting punished and thwarted, and many of the early episodes were purely demon-centric; not so anymore because as we've also been seeing over on Angel a bit more explicitly (and where the characters are much more mature), demons aren't all bad, but the humans behind them is another story and another, higher level of evil undealt with so far. Next year is going to be a rethinking of everything she learned in her first. What I'd like to see next year? Every evildoer human who got away come back to bite her in the butt. If Rack isn't dealt with this year (as he should have very early on), then him too, plus this demon underground she hasn't even touched upon and should have explored more. Also, from a previous post on the SR board: Just a thought to toss out there, I'm not sure this angle has been picked up before, but with Anya now a vengeance demon, Xander's going to have to find out at some time. That being the case, he being so entirely intolerant of demons and all (and perhaps that's the source of all Anya's insecurities aside from getting old), will that change him in the least and how might that affect his view of Spike? And then what can we make of him calling up Sweet in OMWF if he's so intolerant of demons? And furthermore, that he's had relationships that have been nothing but demon-related...that's just weird, to say the least. What's the metaphor for that? And about characters finding out...Buffy still hasn't told anyone but Tara about coming back wrong, and now she's dead. .....and mmm....for Anya's future... supposedly Buffy seals off demons and magic from this world...which means Anya's screwed if she doesn't go back human, and then she's also screwed because her career gets flushed down the tubes... maybe she goes the same way as Spike in the end, since they so parallel each other? Not mention the whole Council/Father issues to deal with, Slayer origins, Key origins, and Tara possibly coming back as a ghost. Did I miss anything? That all said, that this season was a transitory one to get characters from point A to B doesn't make for good entertainment, but that this is clearly a transitory one means there's something big that we all know Joss has been planning around the corner. Besides, in contrast to this one, Season 7 is just going to blow all our minds away.

Joss' interview last week suggested he would continue the series if possible. I bet if they can get SMG a fat enough contract, the show will live on. **** Also Joss has stated in one or two interviews that he would be interested in bringing this cast to the big screen and doing it HIS way with HIS vision. I think he would contemplate this now because he would have the Hollywood clout to do it right. And if it went to feature film, you know JW will be fully riding that puppy, from script to edit. I just went to the Kitten Board based on silveragent's post, and I got a little lost. Where exactly can I find Steve DeKnight's comments?

  • He's a mid-level power in the TV industry with a HUGE cult fan following, which means that he's ripe for moving on to feature films like the X-Files and Star Trek did. And with the recent success that "comics-type" movies have had in Hollywood, the Buffy movies would be welcomed with open arms. If (and I stress IF) "Buffy" ends after next season, it's a great opportunity to move the great stories to the big screen while cutting loose all the "well, this episode ain't very good but we've got 22 episodes to shoot and we need some filler" crap. Bring back OZ! Bring back FAITH! They only want to do movies now, so hey, go for it, kiddies.

it will be because SMG doesn't want to do one. (There have been reports that she's sick of playing Buffy. I think it's mainly because she doesn't blame herself for picking shitty movie roles.) But yes, Joss would do a Buffy movie. The reason he's HATED working in movies is because he hasn't actually gotten to make one. It's been people screwing up his scripts. If he truly didn't want to make a movie, I doubt he'd have signed on for Iron Man, capise?

I followed that link to the transcript and the Kitten board. I've never seen anything like that. Who are those psychos? I can't believe how much they are freakin' out over their alleged lesbian conspiracy. It's insane. Makes me appreciate the sanity and rationality of good old AICN TB. I hope ME doesn't take those extremist views to heart.

Man is that weird. I'm not used to the format of that site, so I'm not really sure WTF is going on there. I don't really want to know either. To those bemoaning the show's end... well Joss Whedon's still working on TV, we've got his other projects to watch. Besides, the Buffy cartoon is still to come, and is looking promising. Then there's 'Ripper' - if that's its name, and there'll always be rumors of a Buffy film, until they make the thing. Joss will no doubt dip back into slayerology in comics too. But the actual original show has to end sometime before it gets tired and old. I think 7 seasons is a fine run. Let's hope that the last season is the best. Oh yeah, Chosen Ones... I'd advise you to consider Psynapse's kind offer. He'll draw a picture of you as a superhero, with powers based on what he knows of your personality. E-mail Psynapse, or look for his post in the last comics talkback for more details. Looks cool. Oh yeah, and that decoder ring: I may be imagining things, but it seems like I've had good luck from using it. Weird. Anyone else?

I don't think next year will be the last

    by impalergeneral

I think if they could scrape together the cash, they can keep Buffy going for an 8th year so that it and "Angel" can end in 2004. Otherwise, why not have a mini-series featuring both casts where we can have the long-overdue crossover possibilities? I'd say 13 episodes would be perfect for such a plan. That should be enough to tide us over until we finally have that Buffy movie.

    Well Chilli

    by 2GOLD

Since getting the ring I've been in two arguments, one fight (which I lost very badly) and I've falling down some stairs...so no, the ring has not brought me good luck. If anything I'm scared to look at it again in fear I may be hit by a bus or something. And being hit by a bus would be real strange since the only buses where I live are school buses! How could I get hit by a school bus? So you see why I've been in a crappy mood, I think my ring is cursed or something. Maybe the power of the ring is trying to destroy me, maybe it wants to steal my soul, or maybe it has just been a bad week so far. If I look at it again and I vanish from the board, odds are the ring killed me or ate my soul leaving me a dried husk. With that said, how about a trade huh? Come on, it's not the ring....honest...no seriously. *** Oh yeah Thalya, awesome paper girl. I don't know how you did it but that was just great. Sorry for so late with your praise but I got really busy. So again, you totally rock!**** I don't know if I could go see a Buffy movie, something about a single dude going to a movie about a female vampire slayer who jumps around in tight pants just feels wrong. Ah who am I kidding, if Joss decides to run with it then I'll be there. **** I think Eliza problem is her pathetic agent or maybe her school. Either way she has yet to play a role in a good movie other than "Bring it on" which was more of a rental for me. I can't see her coming back to the small screen and if she does not with her own series.*** Hey, I made it through a post without mentioning vampire blonde dude!

somethings I'd like to see before no more buffy

    by notspock

1.Giles to return to sunnydale and reveal that he was every bit as bad as willow is in his ripper days.2.the return of ethan. 3. the watchers council to move to sunnydale, or at least somewhere near where there slayers are (it WOULD MAKE SENSE) 4. oz to return with the abilty to control his wolf powers to such an extent that he can do things x men style 5. xander and angel to go to the gym. (sorry) 5. The host to come to sunnydale. 6. a big crossover finale -all of the angel cast and all the buffy cast to join up. 7. An episode with NO VISUALS, Just sound. have the scoobies all blinded or something. 8.an episode that is all shot in the first person with rotating viewpoints of the same events, where all the characters get to see from each others perspective. 9. an episode when there is no enemy where the Scoobs just go out and have fun. Only they realize they've forgotten how to switch off. 10. A clips show with dawn in the events. 11. buffy's father to come visit and have no idea who dawn is. 12. for Dawn to be recognized as a slayer in waiting (since she is made of slayer blood) 13. for xander to learn to throw a second punch... okay- for him to learn to fight. 14. for a new big bad who is as smart as hannibal lecter and has been watching buffy for years, who has the power to bend realities like the monks did when they created dawn. a chance to really headfuck the audience (technical term) 15. for whistler to return and help spike become a real boy.16. for the singing /dancing demon to be an integral part in bringing down a big bad. (just 5 more minutes of song in an apocalyptic finale would be FUN!) 16. for that damn invisibilty ray that buffy and willow have to shop up again. 17. Johnathon to become a scoob. 18. Buffy to continue in cinema's in a ten hour long serial shot back to back and an episode released every 6 months. 19. What thalya said about humans being called on their raising of demons. 20.oh yeah -bring back faith. of course, never mind what I would like to see -I'd really like joss to go back and give me what I need to see.

    things I wanna see...

    by FromHell

what about a major army of vampires, going on the rampage, possibly led by Spike, possibly not (i have no idea what's gonna happen to blondie). Image the creepyness of these vampires plundering and destroying all in thier way, until daylight, the eerie calm of morning, the demons following in thier wake, feasting off of the remains of what's left. Oz to return in a majorly important role, not as Willow's love interest. Riley to return for the finale ( i actually think army boy's pretty cool). Some new demon hunters, watchers etc to show up. More underground stuff, in the sewers and tunnels under SunnyD. Buffy to reach that objective of becoming the ultimate Slayer, finding her niche, and kicking the holy crap out of loads o' baddies. The hellmouth to close, this would give the show more closer if it's really gonna end. I'm glad they're deciding to give this show a proper run, 7 seasons then bow out gracefully, unlike X-files that tried to lamely limp along without Mulders legs. Of course i would love to see more and more but you know it can't last forever. oh yeah and VAMPIRES!

    is everyone forgetting 'Iron Man'?

    by BurlIvesLeftNut

I'm not, and you guys need to realize something about Joss. He has a deal in place with Fox, and once he has fulfilled his committment to them he will pursue other things. This will most likely be films if he can make a go of it. But even more prolific producers (David Kelley) have tried to jump to big screen work and it just doesn't click. I love what Joss has done, but I would totally understand if he finally said he's had enough of this universe. He is a creative guy and he wants to bring some of his other visions to the screen, big or small.

  • May 9, 2002, 10:54 p.m. CST

you are right - a movie would suck.

    by notspock

I have to agree a 2 hour movie would suck -there is too much to buffy to ever do it justice in such a small time frame which is why I suggested a cinematic serial- a sort of a mix between lotr and the old flash gordon/;buck rogers serials)- 30 minutes of introduction for the newbies and then full on buffy fun 2 more hours, and NO pandering to the "MOVIE AUDIENCE" (let them love it for what it is.) and then 7 and a half hours more to come over the next two years... of course, no one has ever done that before. So it would suit buffy perfectly.

Hey burnin, why didn't you just add a JR or number behind your name since you loved being the flaming moose? Heck, why not just put rocky in front of it and become rockyburninbullwinkle? Oh yeah, too long..Well, I'll remember who you are...I think.*** More stuff I'd like to see before it ends: A Vampire so dangerous he slaughters the Watchers Council (do we REALLY need these guys?) and too powerful for Buffy alone [hey Faith fans, she can return and die helping Buffy so Eliza can leave TV clean...although isn't Faith in Prison for murder?], Xander to become worth something even if it's vampire food (why not? He always seemed to want power so why not give it too him?), for ME to quit telling us who is evil when we say they aren't entirely, Tara to return from the dead [I miss the busty little lesbian already], Agreeing with Thalya about the humans-demon thing, Giles to return evil (who better to be able to stop Buffy? Maybe Giles should be the Hannibal-like character someone suggested. Heck, 'Ripper' series could be a prequel), For the show to quit treating all men like complete dogs and treat us like the sexed crazied loons we are (honestly what guy wouldn't have wanted to get early Buffy), Willow to stay lesbian [bi nothing, Will is a lesbian!], For the scoobs to realize that they are all truly evil (well they are), and most importantly a HAPPY ENDING...and don't give me this life isn't happy crap, you're a TV show so quit with the lesson and make me smile! And when was the last time an episode ended with us smiling? Is everyday growing up unhappy? Is it?***Good grief, Marti must have had one horrible life growing up cause I mean...when does the depression end with her? I mean, can next year really be happy with her? Can we get this woman a bouquet of flowers or a clown or a joke book or anything to get her to make us smile? Maybe I was wrong about Marti, maybe she is just crying out for acceptance and love from the Buffy followers. Maybe this is why she is lashing out and killing all hope of happiness within us this season. I understand Marti and from everyone here I'd just like to say no matter what we say we truly do care for you and appriecate the time you put in this show...have a virtual huggie (not from me though, I don't hug). Can someone give Marti a virtual hug? Or a pat on the back? Or a card? Come on, we've got to cheer her up before she kills us! Dear God, SOMEONE HUG HER!!! WHEDON, HUG HER!!! For all that is good in the world, give her a balloon animal! Rent her a Pauly Shore movie and crush it with a hammer...beat Carrot Top with a whip...anything she wants just get her smiling!

E-me a proposal-type thing and I'll forward it to the masses. 2GOLD: your posts are just rocking of late. And careful, I warned of the dangers of using magic.. I doubt it, but maybe the ring is somehow enhancing your posts except things are coming around back at you.. still, doubt it. And thanks for the kudos. The formula for writing a paper like that is as follows: gather info the 1st 3/4s of the semester, then procrastinate your ass off then finish it late at the crack of dawn. I don't advise writing papers like this. And no prob on the lateness. It takes a serious effort to get through it so I commend you on said effort. /// Hi Cap'n Chaos! *all Simpsons-like* *G* /// And one last thing, since I basically covered all I wanted to see in Buffy above, I just wanted to point out that according to TV Guide Cordy is being called to another world at the end of this season. (*and prays CC isn't leaving the show for a movie career, cause that would just suck...though if Anya moved to LA..*) It means Angel really can't go on for very much longer credibly, I don't think, unless that other world is Pylea. Could very well be a cue that next season would be its last and the WB wouldn't mind in the least, I don't think. Now how everything is going to coincide so that both end at a point where the two shows could reunite to fight the Biggest Battle We've Ever Seen, something in a miniseries to set everything up would be nice. That would make television history and hell, that could be what actually gets everyone their Emmys. I bet the Academy would be glad to give awards in the miniseries category to something non-cable.

    Hmmm

    by 2GOLD

Interesting Thalya, the ring is enchancing my posts but in return I get my face beat in for no apparent reason....I don't know why but that doesn't sound like a great trade off. So if I write a really bad one does this mean I won't get beat up again? I'm starting to feel like Spike (minus the whole bathroom thing of course), I'm getting my face smashed for good but rewarded for evil....whatsupwitdat? That's it, I'm removing my chip and eating a small village!!! Oh wait, I'm not Spike...damn, I could have used the upgrade in looks, not the whole psycho evil thing since that's not me, I recently learned I'm a bleeder...stupid cool looking ring of destruction! And what's the with blonde thing? Blondes are really the smart ones, it takes a lot of effort to act that stupid...just ask a man the time and energy we use to look like complete morons to avoid easy task. Keep up the awesome writing Blondie and did you ever think your undying allegiance to Spike could be the fact he has blonde hair as well? Think about that while I babble on about something else*** So Cordy is heading to a Demon world, does she take Groo (how do you spell his name?!?) with her? I'm very sad to hear CC may be leaving the show, it's rare in Hollywood to see a female proud of her body like Charisma and if she does leave Angel for movies I hope she succeeds. I hope she doesn't leave though, I love Cordy in a "she's not real and I know it so I'm not crazy" way. Let me make that clear, I don't imagine marrying Cordy nor have I ever imagined marrying Cordy. And if she was real, I'd babble, cry and curl into a little ball. Hopefully her leaving is just a cliffhanger so she can take a little while off and not the end of Cordy. Wes, Cordy and Spike are the last remaining characters I care about who aren't annoying me and who I can id with. Wes is the nice guy whose best intention end up hurting more than helping and he's all alone for no apparent reason (bitter? WHO'S BITTER! I'm not BITTER! Ok, I'm bitter as well but I'm bleeding so I think I get a scooby pass.), Spike is confused and lost, and Cordy....ok I just think she's hot so it has nothing to do with identifying with her. Hopefully everything will work out for them, specially Spike since I'm still supporting him till the very end...even if he kills. Or maybe not. I have to go ice my head again now thanks to that lovely stupid evil ring of happy intentions that seems to have cursed me to be awesome at writing at the expense of great pain. With great power comes great responsiblity so why couldn't I inherit a power that didn't hurt? Stupid magic. If only I could turn my eyes red! **Still supporting Buffy and caving in to offer Marti a hug...*hugs Marti*...there, now be happy.

    Steve DeKnight @ Succubus:

    by 93curr

Just got through reading the postings at the Kitten Board. And am utterly confounded by the lack of PR skills exhibited. God, what the hell is going on here? Now, they're still a long way off from me not watching the show anymore, god knows, but I can certainly understand the anger expressed. What happens on the show itself is one thing, but the comments made by the writers all year have been weird and insensitive. It's one thing to feed a bear if you want to, it's okay to not feed the same bear if you're not inclined, but teasing the bear is just damn stupid! After a certain point it doesn't matter if you actually hand over the food or not, all you're left with is one pissed off bear. And why on earth would ME want that? I was just starting to think that the theme of this year wasn't quite so much "growing up" was it was "underestimating the threat". Almost everything, from Sweet being called to the nerds of doom, have managed to be more dangerous than was expected. Even the characters' own actions have had stronger repercussions than intended. At this point I'm beginning to think that the kittens have fallen into the same trap. Putting Tara in the opening credits 19 episodes in, when they knew from episode 101 that she would die? Joss bringing up the topic of the "dead/evil lesbian cliche" himself? Greenberg's April Fool's posting? At this point I can't imagine what these people can do to redeem themselves. Just writing a great show is not gonna do it. Frankly I'm stunned.

    Buffy Ramblings

    by zer0cool2k2

I'd read NB's coment about the end, and Joss's comment about every season being written as the last, and I don't think either one is the final word on what happens with the show. While Joss or SMG either deciding to leave should spell the end, I don't think her deciding to stay would prompt joss to drag on something he's done with. I'm glad they take the approach to tie up a lot of loose ends every season, (avoiding the sudden cancellation, viewers left hanging syndrome) but I hope when the end is indeed coming, they have a full season to give this show the Swansong it deserves. And I must agree, bad Buffy eps are still better than 90% of what's out there. I also agree that I don't want an X-Files-esque downward spiral for three more years. I'm still not sure there's no life left in our slayer. So season 6 was Buffy's "Phantom Menace", lots of slow, draggy buildup, setting the characters up for season 7's "Attack of the Demons". how are you all going to feel if next season turns out the be the best Buffy season ever? Sure, it'll be great for the show to go out on top, but you'll all be left wondering what might have been. And you'll all be bitching if SMG bows out and deprives you of a potentially great season 8. I've also thought Joss "hoped" (keyword) to end the two series together, thus setting up some "ultimate battle", but isn't Angel a few episodes short of a syndication deal? I'm not sure how many more Angel eps are needed, anyone? now, from the way I unerstood the story in FRAY, once the slayer wins the 'uberbattle and sends the bad things all away, the council has no need to call another Slayer, hence the long gap between Buffy(?) and Meleka. I did like the idea about Watcher-Willow calling on the new Slayer though. I respect Joss's comment that he has to give the viewers what they need, and not necessarily what they want. I just hope he can keep giving us what we need for a few more years. And if not, well it's been a great 7 years.

So here's the deal, I hate to gossip, but I have a fiercely reliable source. The situation is that apparently she has had some "problems" and had to go on "a rest" of the Robert Downey Jr ilk (these problems have apparently been kicked at this point, she is back- as of two weeks ago). Wish I could give you something more concrete, and I hate to be all "deep throat-y" about this, but thought you all might be interested. Regarding Dawn getting her own show, um, would she have to make those piercing shrieks every ep on that series too?

    to silveragent re: DeKnight:

    by 93curr

Well, yeah I'm sure there was a lot of frustration there. Only four days to write 'Dead Things'? Hell, I thought that was a damn good script, but I don't get the need for speed. I can understand that there's a top-down hierarchy at work here, and a decision was made early on (NOT by DeKnight) to kill off Tara, but none of that explains the on-line comments made this year by anyone at ME. None of this explains why DeKnight would even go on the Succubus interview in the first place. What was the point? If nothing's reversed then all he's done is piss people off, and if there is some kind of reversal, then he's alienated the very people who would least likely have a sense of humor about this. Plus, even with a sense of humor, it's just not funny to drag it out this long. And how come no one asked why Xander didn't question how Spike could hurt Buffy in the first place? Seems like he'd be the first one to jump to the conclusion that Spike's chip had stopped working. I actually feel kinda guilty today lurking at the Kitten Board. On the one hand, I can totally empathize with the anger. I've felt upset all week (way more than if Anya's wishes had come true and Xander's intestines had exploded, way more than when Joyce or Buffy or Jenny died) and the last thing I needed at this point was one (or more?) of the writers acting like a grade-school bully. On the other hand, unlike the kittens, I love the misery and angst and kind of enjoy the "dicking with the audience" that's happening this year -but on the actual show, not in real life. I've made jokes before on this board about possibly putting more thought into deconstructing the material than the writers do in creating it, but I'm acually starting to lose faith here. Maybe none of this adds up to anything in the end after all. (And, hey; even as I type this there's a dark layer of hope that next year will pull everything together -no one's more optimistic than a pessimist) But I find it oddly dispiriting that I'm starting to feel this way not as a result of anything that's beamed into my corneas through my TV, but by comments made by the very people that are (supposedly) trying to increase the fan-base and generate interest amongst the faithful. Now, much like the kittens, Willow and Tara are still my favorite fictional characters, and the primary reason that I love the show. Unlike the kittens, however, losing the dynamic is not going to stop me from watching, or even cheering on the angst. There are better ways of dealing with spoilers. You know, like ignoring them and letting the story speak for itself. Or by supplying info that isn't quite true, but just not in proper context. Is any of this going to be included in the season six box set? Commentaries or anything? 'Cause I see some MAJOR spin control in the future. Unless the whole thing was a fraud and it wasn't really DeKnight, just some hack writer from Charmed or Glory Days screwing with the competition.

    OKAY, THAT'S IT...

    by Halloween68

LAY OFF THE FREAKIN' X-FILES ALREADY. I admit, last season was terrible... They were trying to adjust to Mulder leaving. They couldn't quite get it done. The writing too was painfully lacking. But, folks, that was one season. They've had a season or two here and there that weren't as good as the rest, but none of them were out and out bad except last season. I don't know, maybe it seems bad to some of you because you were getting tired of it. I never did. I'm loyal to my shows... I'll see it through. I knew the show wouldn't be as good once Duchovny left. I was right. But the shows still intrigue me. I got through last season, and now I'm glad. Except for the season opener. This season has been awesome. Some of the episodes this season are some of the better ones I've ever seen. Sure, they would've been better with DD, and sure Anabeth Gish couldn't act her way out of a sack, but the writing this season, for the most part, has been strong. Cris Carter has gotten back involved. And, hey, for you guys saying you don't want Buffy going the way of the X-Files (or as you're insinuating, you hope it doesn't start sucking), I got news for you. I also watch Buffy. Buffy was just as bad last season as the X-Files was. It's way worst this season than the X-Files. So cut it out, don't knock what you don't know. You gave up on a good show, that's your problem. I'm still a fan. The show's still good when it wants to be. It's still a lot more consistant and a lot more intellegent than most of the other crap out there.

    by Thalya

I need a valid e-mail address for you, wherever you are! There's a decoder ring in it for you. (just send me an e-mail and I'll get right back to you) And Chilli, your point is well taken. Perhaps you could coordinate this poll and whatnot. I'll get the word out to all the current "Senior Partners" and we'll see where this goes.

    Halloween68.....

    by Psynapse

BITE ME. ***Buffy: Lame at times but still kicking ass overall.***X-Files: Wheezing it's last gasp. MAJOR DIFFERENCE. Buffy has NEVER dragged out a storyline ad nauseam while insisting on generating more questions than answers solely for the purpose of keeping the audience in suspense for more than a season.I've tried repeatedly to get back into X-Files and found it just SO WEAK. Also, TAKE NOTE, this is a Buffy board. Take yer X-Files Booster Kit and use it as a laxative. Judging from your post, you SORELY NEED IT.

    The show has lost it

    by cooper2000

This used to be my favorite show but this season has been really hard to watch and if we get another season with lack of creative control from Josh, I will be glad to see it end and not keep going. I hope the rumors of them spinning Dawn off or something stupid like that are false because that would be like the Lone Gunman spinning off from the X-files. What could possibly happen next year, Buffy gets promoted to Manager of the Fast Food restaurant that shes working at? Dawn still being bitter? Anya and Zander STILL fighting. It's getting old and I for one dont want to see another cliche-soapy season of drearyness. Buffy has lost its way and I am sorry to say that it looks like Josh, like another post said, is neglecting his Child. Wait till both Angel and Buffy end and make a movie... and only if Josh writes it

    Broken record

    by Sofa King

I just gotta say, you people sound like a bunch of broken records. "Buffy gives you what you need, not what you want" - "The worst Buffy is better than 90% of all other tv shows" - "At least it's not going the way of the X-Files"- What is it with you people and the constant over-use of cliches? These Buffy talkbacks sound like broken records- everyone seems to be saying the exact same thing OVER and OVER and OVER again. Is creativity a taboo to you people?

    What I'd like to see...

    by apewatcher

Total goofball dreaming... At the end of season 6, or maybe the beginning of season 7, Buffy is in bed, and dreams(?) that Tara comes back to her. Tara tells Buffy that she can still appear to her because Buffy has also been dead. Tara reveals that she went back in time as a ghost to appear to Buffy in the dream where she met the original slayer. Tara then tells Buffy that she was wrong when she told her that she didn't come back wrong. Buffy did come back wrong, very wrong indeed. Tara asks Buffy if she noticed that she was off her game, or out of synch, since she came back. Buffy asks Tara what went wrong, and Tara begins to tell her... Next scene, Buffy runs into Willow's room (whos is still recovering from being Dark Willow) and tells her about her encounter with Tara. "When you brought me back, you didn't bring me back in MY BODY!" It turns out that the body in the coffin belonged to a missing UC Sunnydale student. A girl who was killed by a vampire, and put into Buffy's coffin (to protect Dawn, the ceremony was closed casket). The vampire, and season 7's Big Bad, the vampire created by the combination of being bitten by three powerful vampires and taking blood from the third vampire; the vampire who is killing vampire kings around the world and building an army to attack the Hellmouth and open it once and for all; the vampire who has the combined power of a slayer and the most powerful of vampires... Buffy the Vampire. OK, that was fun.

    I gotta agree...

    by SpeedRcer

I have lurked at the kitten board for a few months now, for entertainment purposes only- the kittens ( for the most part) are NUTS! I mean the last few weeks your average post is " how dare ME put me through all this pain and misery by killing tara" WHAT...THE....FUCK??? and " lets start a letter writing campaign and target the sponsers on this homophobic show we call Tara the Vampire Slay...oh waite, I ment to say Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Get a life people! If I wrote a TV show the first thing I certainly wouldnt do is add a lesbian charicter cus I would hate the fact that I couldnt do anything with that charicter, for fear that the lesbian community of america would come after me! As for S7 being the end. I agree, I mean these actors arnt getting any younger. I would love to see 2 spin off shows. One about Willow and all her dark magic and maybe another one about Faith ( faith wanders the country slaying demons and vampires and fuckin everything that moves! yay!)

    we've lost herc...

    by km2000

this has nothing to do with the show. just noticed on the new coaxial talkbacks--herc is now a legless "ALIAS" fanatic. wtf????? one slower season and he's jumped the shark. sorry, i don't usually swear online, but i was shocked! he will eat his words by the end of season 7--there is no way alias (a great show, by the way) will ever sustain the complexity and audience emotions as buffy has for seven years. no way. gee, am a bit impartial?
