STAR WARS: CELEBRATION Report with Footage!

Published at:  May 06, 2002 12:20:58 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... I have two types of reports here on STAR WARS: CELEBRATION, the convention/gathering of fans celebrating their mutual love and adoration for all things (or as some would have it, not quite all things) STAR WARS. The first report is actually more of a juicy delivery for all of us that couldn't fly out to the event in Indianapolis. The greatest thing about the footage that IG-U7 has put up for all of us isn't the resolution... taint that great, but rather.... the audio. The audio of thousands of Star Wars fans losing a load in their pants and dresses and pantalones. WARNING, THE FOOTAGE IS HEAVY SPOILERISH!!! BUT CAPABLE OF MAKING YOU SHRIEK WITH GLEE!!!

It is quicktime in somewhat poor resolution, but hey, it was the best that could be done in the setting. I am sure that you have heard that there was new footage shown at Celebration 2, particularly the spiderman/yoda "trailer".

VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Turn the quicktime video setting of brightness to almost full in order to see the most detail - if you post these, PLEASE remind people!
If it is dark, you can see almost nothing.

I'll go by IG-U7 for now.

Have fun with it! and maybe you can help share it.

P.S. Here Is where I put it! I hope people like it!

Next is a report from Keith, who had some issues with the organizational abilities of the convention and some suggestions for what to do better. Here's Keith...

Harry:

It will be after the fact by the time any readers of your site see
this, but I thought I would send along word on the Star Wars
Celebration II in Indianapolis.

As those of us who went to Celebration in Denver three years ago
know, the event was extremely disorganized and marred, to some degree,
by incessant rain. The fact that it was held outdoors at a former
military base and that most events took place under leaky tents
(dealers scurrying to protect their wares from rain was quite a sight)
only made it worse.

The good news is that Celebration II is indoors, in the Indiana
Convention Center, which is more than big enough for the estimated
25,000 attendees.

The bad news is that the sponsors (Wizards of the Coast, this time
around) were woefully disorganized.

You would think that the people who sold the tickets ($75 for three
days) would have kept count of the number sold and would not be
surprised when a big crowd showed up. But they appeared to be. Fans
who stood in a long line were sent to another by staffers who had no
idea what they were doing. Upon reaching that line, the fans were sent
back to the original line - the end of it, this time. Those of us who
arrived two hours in advance on Friday missed the opening ceremonies.

That isn't so surprising, perhaps, considering they were trying to
fit 25,000 people into a 3,000-seat auditorium used for the main
shows.

But the organizers were totally unprepared to handle crowds once they
got inside the convention center. After a couple of hours of watching
thousands of fans standing in lines to events in the main room, the
organizers began handing out old-fashioned movie theater/raffle
tickets, color-coded to allow admission to a session (Rick McCallum,
for instance, or Hayden Christensen) hours later. The system worked,
but was ridiculously low tech.

The autograph sessions were also a bust. Carrie Fisher's session was
held in a separate room (marked by a long line, of course) but most of
the celebrities were put in a corral-type enclosure. Fans bought
admission to the enclosure but were not told which celebrities were
present at any time; they took their chances that the people they
wanted would be there. They were allowed in again later, I'm told.

The full-service autograph service was likewise a wash. People who
paid (for example) nearly $60 for three autographs on Friday were told
to come back for the finished product on Saturday. On Saturday they
were told the autographs wouldn't be ready until Sunday. Ooops - hope
you don't have to fly out tonight!

Otherwise, the convention was enjoyable. Anthony Daniels repeated
hosting duties (and some schtick) from Denver and was fine. No big
secrets were given away at the panels, of course.

The dealers were just what you would expect, and there were the
standard exhibits of SW props and costumes and screenings.

The fans were remarkably easygoing despite the frustrations. This was
a very family-oriented crowd, with lots of kids and babies in tow.

My friend and I would like to attend Celebration III three years from
now, but will no longer assume that a new organizer will mean better
organization.

Thanks,

Keith

Oh please, anyone remember "Plot Does Matter"?

    by cheet

Just try for $114 million you loser McCallum. Here's what no fanboy wants to hear because it's the harsh truth: Spider-Man will be a more successful movie because Spider-Man's legacy as an iconic American hero has had 40 years coming, and because the movie is satisfying to your average, non comic book obsessed fan. When I saw Spider-Man on Friday the audience I was with cheered FOUR times. Right afterwards, across the aisle from me, this eight year old kid asks his Dad if they're going to make more Spider-Man movies. After The Phantom Menace: silence and shuffling of feet. Sleepy kids. Unfortunately, your average suburban moviegoer only remembers this and isn't as dedicated as a fanboy. They've been burned once, and won't be burned again with so many other entertainment options. They'll also avoid opening weekend because of the frenzy around last time. And time and again we hear from early look sees that while great, Christensen is annoying and you have no sympathy for him. There goes repeat viewings from your average moviegoer. What you're left with are fanboys - and this site and the movies it pimps and gets universal acclaim always fail. The fact is, doing things right for the fanboys never works - look at X-Men... Successful, but not hugely successful. Whereas Spider-Man has a charismatic protaganist and a love story that actually works on the girls. Bigger, broader audience who aren't cynical about what comes before. Result = bigger mainstream audience to Spider-Man. Ep. 2 successful but mostly only because of the lunatics who go to see it twelve times. Ends up not being embraced by the general public.

Watch the movie, and if it does suck then bitch all you want, but until then-- remain silent. Sure, TPM wasn't up to par, but that it no way dictates that AOTC is going to follow suit. by stillshining

Thank you CHEET for your wonderful and carefully planned analysis of the box office for Episode 2. Now excuse me while I continually laugh in your face. MWA HAHAHAHAHAH!!! Thank god Lucas doesn't read these talkbacks or else he'd probably just quit! Let's look at this carefully laid out analysis shall we? "Spider-Man will be a more successful movie because Spider-Man's legacy as an iconic American hero has had 40 years coming, and because the movie is satisfying to your average, non comic book obsessed fan." Dude, that's why BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA will never be as successful as SPIDERMAN. Because nobody but fanboys cares about it. What you seem to be missing is that Star Wars is popular with KIDS. Remember those things? They're the people who made their parents buy all that Jar Jar crap, and thank God for them too. They're the people that remind us who these movies are for! STAR WARS is a SERIAL, like INDIANA JONES. It wasn't written to please some thirty year old who gets a hard-on watching Darth Vader cut his son's hand off. (and frankly, ew.) It wasn't made for fine acting and whatever the hell it is YOU want.

Plot? Where's the plot? You know what I hate? Chapter 1. Chapter 1 is the most boring part of the book in my opinion. It has nothing but setup and crap. Lucas wasn't writing for a single movie uyou pieces of burnt toast! HE WAS WRITING CHGAPTER 1!!!

    by stillshining

I dunno what theatres you guys were in but the movie theatre I was in was bursting with applause after seeing Episode 1. Not that I think it's a wonderful movie mind you. The dialogue sucks and the finale leaves ya kinda empty inside. Plus the most realistic character in the movie was Jar Jar. (YEAH I SAID IT! I challenge any of you to tell me a character whoose actions throughout Phantom are more believable!) No that opion doesn't keep me from hating Binks. I can tolerate him though. So can most people. I think the toughest thing for you people who claim to ENJOY movies to believe is that you are actually in the MINORITY. Look, I love Spiderman. I hope it makes all the money in the world. But I hope you people will one day grow up enough to know that it's completely stupid for you to diss a movie before it comes out (the dissing you all gave X-Men untill you found out it rocked was frankly horrible.)and can learn to go in was some iota of hope in mind. Even if it is A NEW HOPE.

PS. Yes I am aware I misspelled "chapter" in my last post. Sue me.

Apocalypse Now in Star Wars universe?

    by renata

I started then stopped watching the clip just because I have my tickets for opening day and, well, I just want to be fresh and dainty as a virgin when I walk in. But you know, I got a look at that shot of the final battle and the one of the ship with the Clone Troopers sitting on the side, their guns cradled in their arms. Does it remind anyone else of the helicopter attack in Apocalypse Now? If people remember, Lucas was going to direct that before Coppola took over. Could this be Lucas' version of that village attack? Probably not, but it got my juices going again. ****To the TBer who said SW will lose to Spiderman because "Plot matters". I agree. Plot matters. So where was it in Spider Man? Was it hidden behind the bad fx? I've seen puppet shows more realistic than those fx. And, frankly, the Spider Man from the Electric Company was more convincing.

Yeah I saw Spider-Man with my friend and his fiance. She knows nothing about film and even said on the way out that Spidey and the Goblin looked like cartoons, which honestly they did. And what was the Goblin's plot again? They never really established one.. but overall I enjoyed the flick except for these shortcomings.

    by renata

$114 million in one weekend? Great. I'm sure the producers and executives at Sony love you long time for that. But it doesn't make it a great movie. Remember: P.T. Barnum made a lot of money, too. And all he had to do was put a beard on a woman.

The footage of Yoda was beautiful,(all the footage was beautiful!!)and Rick McCallum(sp?) seems like an ok guy.As far as Spidey vs. EPII,why's it always gotta be like that? God knows I hope they both make 500 million or whatever..Because when these "fantasy" movies do well,The powers that be let loose with the cash to make MORE "fantasy" flicks, right? I wonder how many Spidermans or Matrix's or whatever we would have missed if folks hadn't gone to see the Star Wars movies more than once.Or how many more we would miss if people hadn't gone to see the Fellowship of the Ring more than once?(I went 5x)I think its a GOOD thing for everyone that we "diehards, freaks, fanboys" whatever,go again and again.P.S.by the way the first 8x I saw the Phantom Menace, the crowd cheered repeatedly..............

"Snnkt!" Vs. "Bzzzt"? OR...A "TALKBAKER"'s Dozen

    by jollydwarf

The one thing I've gotten out of the Celebration II info (I won't watch the footage, not this close to the release!)is that Ricky Mc"Callum Like George Sees 'Em" basically 'fessed up that Hugh Jackman has a role in Episode III. As a Jedi? I never took that seriously until now. I can't imagine what he would do, or could he be Captain Antilles or some relative of Han? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller? By the way, in my humble opinion, when I see people going out of their lazy way to leave acronyms for movies like "Attack of the Clones" and they fuck it up, I really laugh my ass off. Not sure if it's been done in this talkback, but it will eventually. And I just had to remark about "TALKBAKERS" getting a life. I just had a vision of a guy with a chef's coat and hat perusing the site, getting ready to post an updated "Wookie Cookie" recipe, when he hears a ding! signifying his Heavy Spoiler Pizza Puffs are ready ("They spoil your taste buds with an explosion of zesty cheese, tangy tomato, and pepperoni perfection!") But a "TALKBAKER" is a frightening mutant species to be sure.

    by darth melkor

All That Matters, why do you care if people are looking forward to this movie. You're not, but why do you not want others too? I want a real reason. And I want to know what difference it makes to you. See people just trash this movie, which no one has seen therefore can't give an accurate opinion, and insults everyone who's awaiting it. I want a reason.

    Reply to Talkback

  • Ok. Where do we begin. Let's start with the stuff you won't believe anyways, which is that I've got friends who worked on Ep. 2 and I had the good fortune of seeing a presentation by the art department crew on their work on Ep. 1 awhile back. I was utterly taken back by the lack of joy or interest anyone had in making a movie that was obviously going to be special to so many people; and the stories I've heard about the production of a chunk of Ep. 2 are disheartening. That doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be a bad movie - it's more getting a glimpse of what the personalities involved are like; albeit from a cursory sample of the people involved (that said, Gavin Bocquet is a really nice, dedicated chap who I think deserves more credit than he gets - a lot more was designed and built than green screened than you think, whereas it seems Lucas and co. try their hardest to make it sound like they made the whole film in post production). And the glimpse I get are of people who think negatively of the people devoted to their story and are responsible for their success, and are cushioned from the realities of having to make a film under creative duress. What George wants, George gets. Let's fast forward to Episode 2. Same derogatory comments coming from the Lucasfilm camp regarding the hardcore fans (of which I am not one, really, truly not) - but this time they've gone all out to make a film for that audience to win them back seeing how universally Phantom Menace is not for the most held in such high esteem. Lucas has even admitted it. So now we get heapings of Boba Fett and how he's the origin of all Storm Troopers. I'm sorry, but you can't view that in any other light than toadying to the hardcore audience because they LOST a lot of them. Seriously. Boba Fett was a minor background piece of window dressing who because he looked cool was elevated to prominence... And time and again Lucas keeps tinkering with the damn films in order to reap more money for them and in the worst way. All this leads to my ultimate point: hypocrisy in spades. Hypocrisy: Lucas going on record to lead the digital filmmaking revolution, talking about how liberating the tools will be / judging a Star Wars fan film contest but limiting it to parodies and documentaries thereby shutting out all the tribute or fan fiction films (which are cheesy but I admire the chutzpah of the people who make them). Then tossing out some official statement about how fandom "is appreciating the story as it is". Well what IS THE STORY? Did Greedo shoot first or didn't he? How many characters and timelines are reworked in order to fit in some merchandising spin off? Hypocrisy... Discussing greed being the root of all evil and then going on a ballistic merchandising spree that makes Macy Gray's appearance in Spider-Man look subtle. Rereleasing the film for the holidays mysteriously coinciding with a new line of toys in order to make money for charities. Demanding the industry and theater owners adopt a standard that's good enough for one not very technically minded and very cheap director. KFC workers bowing to Jedi en masse in stadium rallies. Jar Jar Binks ties. Crappy videogames. Wares that ought to reside in landfill. All for your consumption. And worst? The dreams of an entire generation of young men corrupted in order for some seclusive, disdainful poobah who doesn't give a damn for them except for their dollars. My whole generation, the Star Wars generation, can neatly be summed up this way: we were raised without religion, strict values, a sense of hardship - and most of us were raised by distant or absent fathers. Star Wars has become the replacement therapy, a thing to devote your life to. But it's just an empty shell headed by a fatuous hypocrite who never cared to begin with. A bunch of borrowed ideas from the best myths but stripped down to their most basic core. You know, if Empire Strikes Back had never been made, would any of us even give a damn? When I see my generation standing in line for three months to see a goddamn movie - the things I've devoted my life to and make a living from... Or even waiting outside a Best Buy to get the newest games console at an inflated price... I really, really worry about us all. We didn't learn anything from the great myths. We just became suckers for hearing them over and over again because it was easier than making our own. I don't know if that rant makes any sense; I just think some perspective is in order. Most of the people attracted to Star Wars are of higher than average intelligence and socially awkward, sure, but imagine what they could do if they put their effort into something communal or truly visionary.

    Lack of merchandising

    by stillshining

Actually, you all may be interested to know that Lucas has really cut back on the merchandising for Episode 2. There is no fastfood tie in ANYWHERE and he only licensed Hasbro to like a third of the number of toys Phantom had. His reasoning was that Episode 2 is too dark for all that stuff and Episode 3 will be much darker. It could even be rated PG-13. Oh and CHEET, your stuff was well said but try to remember that some people are just looking forward to seeing a good movie and get really frustrated with jerks blasting it with all the enthusiasm of a ferret on a sugar high.

    merchandising

    by minderbinder

It would be nice to think that there's less merchandising on this movie because The Movie Is More Serious or something equally idealistic, but the fact is, tie ins for TPM just didn't sell. There were warehouses of unsold toys and KFC/TB/PH actually had sales DECLINE during the TPM tie in. Lucasfilm sent a memo to Hasbro and company basically apologising and admitting that people were disappointed with the film and that product didn't sell.

    by sev

Oh you lot are pathetic. I cant believe the rubbish people write. Firstly Yoda is a Jedi.. there is no way he could become the jedi he is without using a lightsaber.

Secondly Lucas cant win, if the special effects look amazing then you complain theres no story. If the story is good you complain about the special effects not looking good. If there both there, you lot complain about the weather.

No it doesnt look tacky, crap or like a puppet. It looks flippin amazing and I just cant wait to see the film. ILM have done a FANTASTIC job as far as i can see so STOP SLAGGING IT OFF!!!!

You lot have to complain about something dont you. Its sad, oh god its sad.

Stop analysing it, just enjoy it. Just let the film take you to a galaxy far far away.

    by the killer-goat

Lessee, you've already got the SW vs. LOTR thing down, and now you're on the SW vs. Spiderman binge... hmm. (3 posts on this talkback so far...don't stop now, I'm rootin' for ya) Okay, that still leaves SW vs. MIB2, SW vs. Lilo & Stitch, then SW vs. Bond 20, uhhm, then SW vs. TTT. What's missing... Oh, wait, you still haven't done SW vs. SW yet! (That'll be sweet if you can pull it off!!) Almost like a Guiness category or something...

I agree with everything you had to say. Unfortunately I've grown too cynical over the years to believe that very many others in this intellectual cesspool known as the internet will comprehend what it is you're trying to say.

I'm glad you remember me, though I have no recollection who you are. Guess I just have more going on in my life than remember TBers from day to day. Unlike you. For your information, if I didn't like Spiderman, then, well, so be it. I'm not going to say I did if I didn't. But at least I saw it first, unlike a lot of people on this site who just slam sight unseen. And I never even compared it to SW. That's just your little mind reading into that.

    by renata

I mentioned Spiderman because these things seemed to cross currents. I also just saw two movies, one a Mexican film called Y Tu Mama Tambien, and a New Zealand film called "Rain" and they were excellent, probably better than anything in AOTC. If you guys want to talk about "Rain" I'd be more than happy to.

    by the killer-goat

See, I'm on your side here, and honestly, I'd LOVE to hear you discussing other movies that happen to be non-SW related. Except that, "Unlike you", I'm actually reading and posting on other movie topics here at AICN. I could be wrong, but to date I don't recall you posting anything unless it was a Star Wars heading (pro), or LOTR (severely con). There was the Oscar talkback of course, but most of your input was also LOTR-related (defiantly con). For someone intelligent who claims to love other movies so much, you could contribute to interests other than the SW hype. Take that as you will, but it's based on your runner-up history for "most-anti-LOTR/pro-SW" talkback postings within the last 7 months. ----------BTW, I've been frequenting this site for 3.5 years to your barely 0.5 months, and I just happen to have good memory for names and stuff, but memory just may not be your strong point. And [Unlike you] I also exhibit interests other than just defending Star Wars against any late-breaking trend movie fanboys seem desperate to pitch, but strangely you can always be counted on to take their bait.

    The footage

    by ig-u7

The footage can be found here, along with other files that were taken at the C2 festivities. Scroll down the page.

    http://www.mycrappysite.com/users/kellysclips/aotc/qt.html

Big thanks goes to MoffJake for recompressing, and finding storage for the files.

Remember to turn up that QT brightness.

Just have fun with it, and if any lucasfilm folk are reading... just let it be... it will create a greater interest in the movie. Overall, it's good for the film, and remember, we are all big fans in the first place.

Hey...Big Sweaty Ball's...I must agree, the Yoda footage loo

    by lezbo milk

I don't know why Lucas didn't just get a real Yoda. I mean with all his money, and technology being what it is today, you think him and a good casting agent could have found a 2.5 foot talk little space critter to take on the roll of Yoda. I mean come on, CGI footage of a runt sized alien wielding lightning and a light saber just pales to the real deal. Basically what I am getting at here for you more dimwitted (like Stinky Balls or Sweaty Nuts) who fail to recognize the sarcasm...the Yoda footage looks fake compared to what? Just what are you comparing this footage too? What benchmark are you using? What should Yoda look like kicking ass? I assume that you must have some idea?

    Well said Milk.

    by darth ranik

I thought the footage looked great. Yea it looks fake, but that is because your brain is getting fed images that it knows cannot possibly be real and are so different and revolutionary it has no point of reference. The images we are being exposed to in modern FX heavy movies are so much more daring and are attempting to show us visuals that have never before been possible. Films now show us places and things and aliens that could not be shown until just a few short years ago. Most of the effect in AOTC wouldn't have been possible without the computer, and yes you can tell the creatures are CGI, just like 20 years ago and earlier you could tell creatures were Stop Motion Animations. What else could they have been? In the realm of pure fantasy and sci-fi what else can fanciful creatures be other than fake creations of the latest in movie making technoloy. If you think AOTC CGI looks fake, well, I would recommend not being a Sci-fi movie fan. Stuff that is fake is always going to look fake to some people, or they will only be able to see it as fake. They just cant let thier imaginations go, they have to analyise and pick apart every aspect of the effects. 20 years from now if George makes a new Star Wars film, and there is a little alien like Yoda for instance, jumping around and kicking ass...your still going to realize its fake and some people just won't be able to buy into it. It's like the more realistic something that is known to be fake looks...the more it disturbs some people. Oh well, what can you do? Watch drama.

I just saw press screening of AOTC!!!

    by berend

Just speechless. Only minor spoilers below (considering the subject of this tb)

All the unbelievers will regret their doubts.

Yoda fighting with lightsaber works. Hayden Christensen is a perfect obnoxious brat who is bound to end up on the wrong side of the force, while at the same time playing a quite believable love-interest with Portman.
The story is involving and complex; a perfect setup for what can only be a dynamite part three.
    Visually its all stunning.
You will be convinced in the first minute, as soon as Amidala's ship and escort dive into the cloudcover of Coruscant, through which only the tallest buildings emerge. If not, then certainly when the ships land. There is a certain edge of realism in the cgi that is new.
In my opinion, only a few things are not PERFECT. Occasionally humans riding cgi creatures are somewhat 'off-rythm'. And the 3PO wisecracks are a little obvious near the end. The rest of the attempts at comic relief are surprisingly subtle, there are some real "we're all fine here...now...how are you - BANG - boring conversation anyway"- quality moments in the film.
Considering I was watching this at 9.30 in the morning after working untill 3.00 last night I was surprised that the movie actually touched me emotionally. I even felt a small lump in my throat at some point. Surely that must have been the coffee without breakfast disagreeing with me.

I will have to stop now, or I will enter true spoiler territory. I have my tickets for the 17th, and know where I will be in my dreams untill then.

    Call me 'plant' - I don't care. I know who I am.

  • OK, While I admit I am definitely in the camp of those that want to see Yoda with a lightsaber, and have wanted to see him use one for OVER 20 years (Since "The Empire Strikes Back" came out) - the idea just sounds kind of Silly. It does to me anyway. I did not know whether to laugh hystericaly at the utter stupidity of it all, or laugh with glee, just like all the OTHER reindeer, at seeing a childhood wish fulfilled. But come ON people - A 3' green CGI muppet, versus Christopher Lee (who is 6'5" without boots on) in a sword fight..... *** Oh well, at least PARTS of it will be entertaining. And if more sections of the film are entertaining than not, I will have enjoyed it. And that is all I ask of a movie. *** Remember boys and girls, this is a MOVIE, its not a religion, its not real, and it will never actually happen to ANY one of us. Enthusiasm is good, but like most things there should be some moderation.

    Saw the footage in person...

    by zemora

After a quick Q&A with McKellen they showed that eye-popping ten-minute clip of AOTC. It was so stunning, I had multi-orgasms just sitting there in my seat. The digital process made it appear as if you could reach out and touch the stuff on the screen. It was incredibly clear, bright and detailed---like looking through a window. It was awesome. The two teenage fan boys next to me were "Ooohing" and "Aahhing" and raving about the clip so much, the one nearest to me stopped attempting to brush against my chest accidently. After that first clip, they showed a neat 'How-To' special effects clip that had a really cool tune that accompanied it. The last spoiler-ridden clip was the Yoda/'This Summer's Hottest Action Hero' thing---you know, the one that shows Yoda kickin' Count Dookie's (yes, I meant to spell it that way) ass. The fan boys jumped up and cheered themselves silly. I'm not too enthused with this CGI Fightin' Yoda, but I'll have to see the whole movie to judge outright. As someone who was throughly digusted with Episode One, I left the Celebration REALLY, REALLY excited, and determined to see AOTC in digital, baby; nuttin' but digital...

Damn it! The clip is GONE!

    by jmyoda

Damn, I skip coming online one friggin' day and this has to happen! I've been dying to see Yoda use a lightsaber and kick some Sith ass for 22 years. Ever since a little chubby 5 year old went in to see "The Empire Strikes Back" in 1980 after spending three years in ultimate Star Wars bliss (all the toys) and saw that little green dude pop up on screen. It was the closest thing to a religious experience a little kid could have. Even my HUGE disappointment with TPM and worries for AOTC can't keep down my excitement of finally seeing Yoda in action. I am the number one Yoda fan on the planet. Hell my disappointment is JMYoda@JediMasterYoda.com (unfortunately the main site is under a major overhaul at the moment and I'm always too busy it seems to finish). I do a very good Yoda voice (check ftp://ftp.jedimasteryoda.com/mp3/ for samples) and heck Yoda has been my nickname for so long (in school, on the CB radio and on the 'Net) most my friends just call me Yoda. Oh and my life-size Yoda (the trilogy one from '94) is my most prized possession. I'd like to get the new AOTC one by Rubies but unfortunately $600 has yet to fall out of the sky. ---- So anyway if Lucas makes AOTC at least comparable to 'Jedi' (The least of the comparable) and pulls off this Yoda/Dooku fight by making it everything I could ever hope for in a Yoda action scene then I could maybe almost forgive him for making TPM so half-ass. Well perhaps not forgive but at least accept that he fucked up and mended his ways. Here's hoping... Right now I'm trying to get the clip off of Kazza but only a few users have it so I'm on que. I can't sleep until I still this clip!

Yoda clip and endgame for the Yoda/saber debate.

    by jmyoda

OMG I just saw the clip. That is the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life. I can't believe it, I'm actually excited about seeing AOTC now!!!!! All Yoda dissers can lick his green wrinkled balls!!!! Mwahahahahahaha!--------------- Anyway on with my subject... In ANH Obi-Wan says that a lightsaber is "the weapon of a Jedi Knight." Since Yoda is the grand poobah of all Jedi he MUST be a master with a lightsaber. Sure he doesn't have to whip it out unless he's fighting a worthy opponent (Dooku) or trying to score with Yaddle (wait that's his *other* lightsaber...) since he could easily stop a horde of battle droids with one wave of the hand but since he is a Jedi he must use a lightsaber. Also he's the teacher for all Padawans until they enter an apprenticeship so he has to teach THEM the use of the lightsaber as well. Personally I think the fact that Yoda is diminutive will make his opponents look silly since he can zip around using the Force and then chop off their wee-wee! :-D

    Family Atmosphere?

    by filmperson

I was at Celebration II last weekend as well, and I do agree with the guy that posted this review, I guess you could call it, that they were a lot of families attending, however I would not say that the Celebration was a family friendly environment with Rick McCullum using his favorite four letter word as well as a few other guests using language and dialouge that I would be really unhappy for any child to hear, not only because I think that children should not be exposed to foul language, but also the kids don't see, say, Carrie Fisher as Carrie Fisher, they see her as Princess Leia, a hero of the Star Wars films. A sort of role model if you will. Now what kind of message is being sent to the kids if they hear one of their heros swearing. I, as an adult, understand that Leia is just a character and that the real individual is Ms. Fisher, but the kids don't. I guess what I would like to see at the next event (along with much better organization) is one of two things; either the guests set an example for the kids at the event by not using such coarse language and realizing that, in the children's eyes, they are not themselves, they are the character they play on screen. Or have the staff post ratings for the shows with guests that are more prone to use coarse language, so parents can make wise decisions in planning for what show the family should take.
