MEN IN BLACK 2 New Trailer!!!

Published at:  Apr 30, 2002 9:37:02 AM CDT

Harry here. I wasn't a huge fan of the original MEN IN BLACK. I felt that the pacing felt off, that some of the gags just didn't work for me, but that the interactiong between Tommy and Will was just fantastic. That some of the alien stuff was wonderful, but over all... The film felt a little flat. The trailers for MEN IN BLACK 2 have been, for me at least, more promising. They seem to be promising more Alien stuff, more interaction between Will and Tommy and tons of effects moments. We'll see, but I'd say this looks dang promising. Here ya go...

but with Jones as the outsider, not Smith. To start with anyhow. I liked the first film, even though I saw it in a terrible cinema in Wales that only had 2nd hand prints of films. But hey, MiB was short and sweet, perfect summer fare.

    This had me giggling....

    by splinter

....despite the fact that the original was more insubstantial than a ghost's fart. That was a really bad metaphor, sorry. I'll leave it in anyway. ANyway - the 'This is the last suit you'll ever wear...' line is funny. As are the ears of Will Smith.

    by osmosis jones

Why go to the trouble of setting up Linda Fiorentino as Smith's new partner at the end of the original (as well as giving "Elle" a running role on the fine animated series) and not bring her back for the sequel? And subbing the grotesque Lara Flynn Boyle for the gorgeous (and hilarious) Famke Janssen was a terrible mistake. Oh well, I guess I'll see this if the critics like it...

I'm finding it hard to get excited about MIB2 when the first one was so average. Also, considering the apparent quality of the other summer releases MIB2 will find it hard to earn my money.

    I liked the first one

    by schnorbitz

But was the only one in my family who did! I don't see what people have against the first one; it's crammed full of detail that just flies by. eg, the last time I saw it, I noticed that in Will Smith's first look at the control/customs room, there was someone standing upside down on the underneath of a walkway. Just out of focus, in the background, random, mad. Sonnenfeld would have known no one would have noticed it, and he still put it in. And the "pulled over" joke is just perfect, even though I have seen it about 4 times. It works in this country too...

Haven't looked at the trailer, probably not gonna watch the film. Didn't like the 1st one. Though Tommy Lee Jones' memory eraser obviously works because I cannot remember anything good about MIB.

    by rev_skarekroe

Ya buncha deluded sheep. Sure, you'll watch this flick with the MIB as the good guys, then when the invasion comes you'll trust those dark suited deceivers with your lives. "Save us, Men In Black!" you'll cry "Just like you saved the world in those movies!" Then they'll lead you into the Grey mothership like a Disney film crew leading the lemmings. Once inside, the little bug-eyed bastards will bathe in your entrails for their nutrient intake. "But I saw E.T. and Close Encounters!" you'll blubber as they core a whole in your nether-regions to get at the moist intestinal tubing inside. "They were so friendly!" Meanwhile your precious MIBs will remove their disguises to reveal themselves as the hideous Reptoids they really are. Wake up America! sk

    by jabbathesltt77

Gee, i didnt know the first one was such an unpopular movie. I for one thought it was a fun, clever time at the movies. I mean yeah it wasnt Gone With the Wind but it was never supposed to be. Its a short, witty movie worth a few good laughs and effects, nothin more. One guy once said that a good movie is one with at least 3 good scenes and no bad ones. Well i think MIB had about 5 or 6 good scenes and no bad ones, so in my eyes id say it was a pretty dam entertaining flick. But hey what do i know, im just the mighty jabba....

MEN IN BLACK was mediocre, lightweight and tedious. I never liked it. The one good scene was the one where they had all the monitors showing aliens that had already infiltrated eath (i.e. Michael Jackson). Besides, the Fresh Prince dude gets on my nerves. I ain't looking forward to MIB2.

    by tarl_cabot

I guess I'll be at the beach during Fourth of July weekend-I wouldn't watch MIB 2 if it was free. I hated the first one. It was so shamelessly commercial. They spent nearly ten minutes on the opening credits and the film was only 90 minutes long! WTF? They knew they could get lots of showings in one day ($). Will Smith is too damn smug for his own good.I can't stand him-he's just too in love with himself.I knew watching him play Ali, the ultimate famously cocky celebrity, was going to be torture and so even though I like Ali and I'm a huge boxing geek I passed. As if we needed an Ali movie anyway."When we were kings" provided enough of Ali; the Ali movie was so unneccessary and casting a buffoon like Paul Rodriguez to play the brilliant Dr.Ferdie Pacheco was unforgivable. What we could use is a boxing movie about Harry Greb. That's an interesting fighter who's not already documented to death like Ali.

    MIB 2...yuck!

    by nixumb

I actually liked the first one even though it was too obvious that it borrowed from other better films. What made it cool was it's style and some clever little concepts. I saw the trailer last night on Entertainment Tonight and can honestly say this looks like garbage. The last few seconds had some nice eye candy but the whole thing seems dull and such a rehash. For director Barry looks like it'll be Wild Wild West 2. The opening with the dog was awful in that that the CG mouth was bad and the song (How many times is that going to be played?) is just annoying. Sidenote: After Babe, I think, there has been an endless supply of crap with moving mouths Example: All those animal commercials that are airing on TV. The car thing was a yawn and there just isn't too much that looks fresh, new, and exciting. James Cameron has said something back in 86 that I will never forget about sequels in an interview after Aliens, hewas basically saying that the audience expects a certain thing, skewing it slightly makes for a totally different film. I'm tired of sequels in general (except for those trilogies "wink") Did anyone really want a MIB2? NOT ME! Ok. Thats my bitch'n.

    by terry_1978

Seriously, I hate to make it sound like such a racial thing, but as a black person, the last line about the fake MIB agent getting pulled over due to it's being black was funny to me....I saw this trailer with a couple other people earlier today(one was white one was Asian), and they were cracking up at it. Quit being so sensitive.

MIB was a mediocre movie and ID4 was insulting

    by tarl_cabot

In ID4, Will Smith's character's dream was to join NASA and fly in space and explore...etc. So, when he has what should have been an astonishing, watershed moment in human history,by having an unprecedented experience of interacting with an alien lifeform face to face, hostile or not, He punches it and non-chalontly says: "Now that's what I call a close encounter!" and then lights up a cigar. This was supposed to be funny.I was turned off by the stupidity of that moment and decided the movie sucks beyond the point of redemption right there. The director obviously didn't take Will Smith's character very seriously despite trying to present him as an ambitious adventurer. They just sold him out as a cheesy comic relief side-kick. And WS does the same stupid shit in MIB: "get out of your busted ass vehicle"... The first MIB did well due to a derth in good competition that summer but now the stakes are higher: we have Spiderman,SWE2, Signs and lots more. Fuck MIB 2! The first one sucked and the next one is all about TLJ becoming the next Danny Glover: he needs the sequel's payday more than the other star of the original.

  • i just enjoyed the first MIB immensely. looking back on it, it doesn't work as well, and the movie is certainly way too in love with geeky futuristic weapons and effects that are more cartoonish than cool. but i still really like the whole idea of aliens being all around us, and our elementary school teachers being aliens, and blah blah blah. twas good fun. i hope part 2 is damn good fun, too, even tho there is WAAAAAAY TOO MUCH CGI in that trailer. and not even very good CGI.
