Memo from: Rupert Murdoch; Memo to: Dick Zanuck; re. No Monkey Sequel: Zanuck you are finished at 20th Century Fox! You will never eat lunch in my commisary ever again! You have utterly failed me! Because of your inept producing we now have no ongoing Apes franchise whereas 30 years ago we made 5 of these God damn monkey movies! Because of your un-productive producing the eccentric genius Tim Burton was unable to deliver the movie on budget! You went between 30 and 50 million dollars over budget depending on which set of books I look at! Therefore your deal here is over effective immediately. We will also be suing you personally for $350 million which is the figure my accountants tell me we will now not realize since we have no new monkey franchise here! I will see you in court Dick. Until we meet again. Rupert

    Singing Detective...uh, Mel Gibson?

    by dogsounds

Forgive me for sounding biased here, but I seem to recall that one of the essences of the original SD with Michael Gambon was the 'Englishness' of his history - as a child, the character grew up in pre/post wartime Britain. Why do I get the feeling that this will be yet another Americanized rehash? I can just see the trailer now. The theater lights go down, the captions roll and a gruff American voiceover says something like "His father was a cop..." Oh lordy. Let's hope they don't go fucking it up. Dennis Potter would be spinning like an electric motor in his grave. Here's my forecast - the character grows up in pre/postwar America, and will need somewhere with woodland...maybe New England. And I guarantee that he wont have exczema or psoriasis. Nah. They'll probably say "Well, we don't want to give [insert big star name here] a gross look, it wouldn't sell. We'll give him a mole. (sound familiar?). But it will be a really bad one. In fact, hey, why not set it in space. And while we're here, why not have him cracking the Enigma code, just like the Americans did in WWII, huh? Almost as bad as making "The Runaway Jury" about a Gun company. Jesus. Is nothing sacred anymore? Oh, p.s. any bad guys will obviously be English.

    Horrible, horrible Daredevil outfit.

    by case

I'm so glad Sam Raimi didn't give Spiderman a motorcycle outfit. The whole point of a skintight outfit is to increase mobility. Oh, but if Affleck were in a skintight outfit it would be painfully obvious that his physique is far from acrobatic. I think the name Daredevil is inspired by tight rope walkers and trapeze artists, not Evil Kneevil. One thing this film promises to do is give me something to complain about. So bad!

TAKEN FROM THE DOCU-SITCOM ABOUT MY LIFE "THE MAVERIKS" STARRING CANDI MAVERIK, WITH BUZZ JR., BROTHERS CHE, SIOUX, CRASH, CAV & SPOOK MAVERIK, PA "INDECENT EXPOSURE" MAVERIK, NEPHEW MOSH, NIECES KIT & SIS, AND BUZZ MAVERIK AS DAD (INSTEAD OF SAYING "FOOKIN'" WE FIRE GUNS)...
The most interesting project in the pipelines this week is a production by Neverhappen Films. Producers Napolean Bonaparte and Julius Ceasar discussed the project with me this weekend in L.A. County Lock Up. "We visited one of those expensive public screenwriting classes at UCLA," Bonaparte said. Ceasar, who has a habit of finishing his partner's sentences and beers, added, "Everyone had written a Cinderella story about a guy making it big in the Industry and getting an actress girlfriend, except for the chicks in the class who wrote Cinderella stories about chicks making it big in the Industry and getting an actress girlfriend." The partners picked one of the scripts at random, LUCID DREAMS by Robert Slikes. "For a while we called it UNTITLED UCLA EXTENSION PROJECT, before settling on THE WORLD NEEDS WANNABEES," Ceasar said. "Yeah, we took a line from that Offspring song PRETTY FLY FOR A WHITE GUY from a few years back," Bonaparte said before begging me for protection from these three biker looking guys who'd just brought in...Reese Witherspoon will play a hardboiled cop on the edge in Alan Parker's HIGH MURDERS. Witherspoon's character must bring in her two lovers (Ryan Phillipe in a dual role) for killings they committed while stoned. Fortunately, she is also a lawyer and teams up with a street lawyer (Lawrence Fishburne) to defend her men..."I was a really big fan of BIG," said director/producer Yancy Chow,"as well as VICE VERSA, LIKE FATHER LIKE SON, DREAM A LITTLE DREAM and 18 AGAIN. I think people are nostalgic for those films." Chow is saving you a trip to your video store by making TAKE A PENNY, LEAVE A PENNY about a man (Matthew McConahey) whose body is taken over by his aging father (Paul Newman). "The title comes from the father mistaking those little penny dishes by the cash registers in restaurants for the tip jar," Chow said... Modern religion better look out, because Jerry Zucker is bringing us DAVEY & GOLGATHA. It's about a claymation boy and dog from a '60s cartoon let loose in the modern real world. Davy and Golgatha run afoul of televangists, perverted priests and the Church of Scientology...And speaking of Scientologists, Tom Cruise has dropped out and Patrick Swayze has dropped into JERRY MAGUIRE 2: THE WEIGHT OF THE HUMAN HEAD. Cameron Crowe quickly wrote the script after VANILLA SKY tanked because he and Cruise had vowed to only make successful films together. When it became apparent that this screenplay would only lead to disaster, Crowe also opted out. He was replaced by former indie director Stuart X. Kensington in his sell out debut. Kensington's Sundance dazzler from a few years ago, JAYNE MANSFIELD LOST HER HEAD, is still unreleased by Miramax. Kensington remains an indie rebel at heart, saying of JM2 producers,"Yeah, the dumb fucks hired me for this job because my last film also had the word head in title so they figured this would be up my alley." Kensington is no less outspoken about Miramax suit Harvey Weinstein. "He's a wanker!" Kensington said loudly on a Santa Monica street corner. When Weinstein was reached for comment he said, "Kensington is a pretentious fuck. He's from Illinois, where does he get off using the word wanker?"...SEE YOU IN REHAB.

    MI3

    by zarles

Fincher doing MI3 sounds awesome. Make it really dark, spooky, and with a ton of CG "through-the-handle-of-the-coffee-maker" shots to piss off all of the "geeks." Team him up with Woo, and you can count on my ass being in a seat. And I got no problem with "Where's My Car II" as long as they find them some decent looking girlfriends this time around. What a couple of pooches that were in the last one...
